Mai Tais and Brats

I’ll be at Trader Vic’s tonight (Tuesday) for Oktoberfest. Trader Vic’s is at 1030 North State Street. Chef Hans promises a good time, and he always delivers. I haven’t decided whether or not to take my luxury gas guzzling car or my new hybrid ride. As you know, parking is an issue for me, and I guess I’ll use the valet at Trader Vic’s. It’s an odd valet situation because the guy stands in the parking garage and makes you pull the ticket before he parks your car. If I’m going to pull a ticket, I might as well park my own car at some point. I am a Trader Vic’s owner, and I have been trying to get to the bottom of this conundrum for quite some time. I will keep working on it. I’m always trying to make the world a better place… for me! :-)
I have a lot going on this week. There’s another hockey game on Wednesday and I have a charity fund-raiser for a charter school on Friday. Then, there’s another Blackhawks game on Saturday night. Of course, the Bears at Falcons game on ‘Football Night In America’ will cap off the weekend, but I get to stay home for that. I guess in the scheme of a normal life that’s not too many things, but I’m a guy who works one hour a day in his basement. It’s a lot for me. And speaking of my basement: I think that the podcasts are being pretty well received. As I write this, the Steve Dahl Podcast (DahlCast) is the first audio podcast listed in the “New And Noteworthy” section on iTunes. Don’t forget about the Steve Dahl iphone app.
Wednesday, I will have another in my series of weekly articles in the Chicago Tribune’s Live section. They call me a “special contributor” at the bottom of my piece now. I don’t think they used to do that. I wonder if John Kass and some of the other columnists bitched about me being treated like a regular columnist. I’m not a full timer and I didn’t go to journalism school, and that irritates some of them, I think. Whatever, I’m still in the paper, and that’s the main thing, right? Someday, I hope to be made a full-fledged columnist and even get my own Tribune Tower security badge. But for now, I will still have to sign in when I go over there to have a meeting or try veggie burgers with Kevin Pang for ‘The Cheeseburger Show’.
