00:00	It’s Friday and you ain’t got shit to do so why not get high and listen to the DahlCast? Today is February 3^rd and this is DahlCast #609. Steve has given up on product placement in the show so Brendan should just say that the show is sponsored by David Hochberg at Townstone Financial.
00:03	The weirdest thing about being on WLS for the last two days was dialing into the station early and hearing Rush Limbaugh. Rush didn’t sound like himself and Steve has read that over the last few years he’s been doing an hour and 10 minutes of show that gets compressed down.
00:06	Steve understands that Zippy is a little hyped up today although he claims he’s not. Brendan thinks that Pete was really jamming in the studio before the show. Stephanie described it as “cracked out”, Steve didn’t hear any of it but he hears him sit and eat his banana and granola bar after the show. Pete would like to defend himself and say the granola bars are very crunchy. He tries to suck on them a bit before chewing.
00:08	When Steve went away from his computer earlier, he came back to Pete playing some song that sounded like the Go Go’s. It was the new Madonna song with Nikki Minaj and M.I.A., Steve doesn’t know who either of those people are. The video features cheerleaders and football players so it seems like it will be played at the Super Bowl halftime show. Steve thinks something bad is going to happen at this halftime show, worse than Janet Jackson. Madonna is desperate for attention.
00:10	Brendan thinks it has to be hard to be an aging sex symbol, Steve has handled it well though. Brendan admitted Madonna looks good in the new video; he usually finds her heinous looking. Steve thinks this is why Demi Moore was sent into rehab after only having a diet of Red Bull and spoonfuls of tuna. The harsh judgment of Brendan sent her into that.
00:13	Although, we are being urged to pray for Tom Brady from his wife, Giselle Bundchen, as he goes in to Super Bowl Sunday. She sent an email to friends and family asking for their prayers; Steve thinks she has a nice family that would leak a personal email to the New York Post.
00:18	When Steve was a kid, he couldn’t go to Sports Authority and buy an NFL football so when he got an NFL game ball from the first Super Bowl that said “the Duke” on it, it was awesome. It was awesome until he played with it and ruined it; he imagines it would be very valuable today.
00:22	So, Jim picked up Zippy today and he strolled to the car with a beer glass and a travel mug. He had a smoothie in a pint glass, and didn’t see anything wrong with it. Zippy is very offended by Jim talking about the glass. It’s just strange to Jim to see him ride in the car with an open glass. Pete did not make the smoothie for himself, occasionally Mollie gets up and goes for a run with Pete so the bonus of that is he gets a smoothie.
00:25	That is a lot of beverages! And Pete has a Diet Coke waiting in the wings. Steve would like him to just open that now and get it over with.
00:28	Every time Steve orders it, he thinks the guy thinks he’s crazy but once he steps back and reads the ticket, he gets that is a good pizza order. He knows it sounds crazy but it’s the perfect pizza order for Florida. Steve keeps it simple in Chicago.
00:31	Papa John’s really is the worst; you have to know it’s going to be bad when they send out the garlic butter dipping sauce. A good pizza really doesn’t need that sent with it.
00:34	Now that Steve has placed his order a few times, he has no shame about it and can just tell them “I’ll take the last order I placed”.
00:37	Happy Pizza Night in America, everybody! You can save it for the Super Bowl but you’ll have to put the order in early on Sunday. At Pete’s, you get a little card and if you save up 13, you get a free pizza so Pete orders 2 small pizzas in order to get 2 cards with each order.
00:41	Hey Buzz Kilman, what’s happening? Buzz is just gearing up for the Super Bowl and we were just talking about pizza. Buzz has no idea if they’re getting pizza or what kind of food they’re getting. So they’re in the early stages of gearing up. Buzz only started gearing up this morning when he woke up.
00:43	Steve is pretty sure there’s an unfavorable article about Dr. Mercola in Chicago Magazine. Buzz knows there are people who refuse to see the truth but what can you do with them? None are so blind as those who refuse to see. Buzz doesn’t blame them for not wanting to see because once you do it’s a nightmare. You find yourself eating broccoli! Last night Buzz’s dinner was a piece of fish, brown rice and broccoli!
00:47	The article lists some of the things Mercola sells, like the melatonin sleep spray. Buzz has it and he uses it every night before he goes to bed.
00:50	Buzz probably won’t read the article because he’ll just get mad about it. Steve has realized that Buzz is a prepper, which is a person preparing for the end of the world. Steve’s been checking out a website called American Prepper.
00:54	This prepper website is amazing to read. They also have a prepper podcast and a prepper radio network. How about a show with Buzz?
00:57	Buzz has often thought about his harmonicas when the world ends. Because they won’t make any more harmonicas after the end of the world. So you’ll have to just accept what you have.
01:01	Buzz would be really concerned about his pizza place too. He’s hoping it survives the fall out and if it does delivery will be lightning quick.
01:03	A few years ago Steve kind of got into some of this prepper stuff, but it was mostly concern about nuclear power plants. Steve wanted to stock up on Iodine pills and he was going to buy thousands of them and store them in here and at his other houses. Eventually you have to stop yourself because you can really fall into the rabbit hole. Honestly who wants to be around after the world ends?
01:05	Buzz is going to be volunteering in Calumet City to disarm any kids who are threatening cops with butter knives. Yesterday police there shot an autistic kid armed with a butter knife. It was a kid they knew and knew to be autistic!
01:08	Police officers in Calumet City say Watts cut a police officer through his uniform with a kitchen knife. They feel they did everything they could to avoid the situation. Except calling Buzz to disarm him.
01:11	Buzz doesn’t understand how these guys could sleep at night after this.
01:14	Officers did shoot him once in the leg but after he kept moving they shot him in the head. Why not just taze the kid?
01:16	Steve wants to go back to the prepper podcast and see what’s happening there.
01:19	Brendan would like to alert people to a party at Enclave featuring Lil’ John. Brendan’s friend is an owner at Enclave. Is the friend paying for this ad on the show?
01:23	Steve wants to check in with the prepper podcast again. So far every time he’s checked in he has found something awesome.
01:26	OK Buzz well have a good weekend and have a good Super Bowl.

01:34	Ed’s hashtags included #Hawks #NHL and the best one #FUCKTHIS! Steve turned the game off and finished Hunger Games. He wasn’t too depressed it was over because there are two books left. Then sadly he turned the TV on this morning and they were replaying the Hawks game.
01:35	Then Steve switched over to Soledad O’Brien on CNN and that’s very good. It’s news-filled yet conversational. The Bulls on the other hand won last night at Madison Square Garden. They didn’t have the local broadcast, only TNT so it felt like you were watching a local New York broadcast.
01:37	Steve doesn’t understand how Spike Lee can have a rivalry with Reggie Miller, he didn’t play basketball! There were a few incidents with Spike Lee heckling Reggie Miller. Spike gave Reggie a copy of his Malcolm X DVD. What a lovely gift. It’s like if Steve went around giving everyone 20 Years in the Can. He gave that to everyone for Christmas.

00:00	Today is Thursday, February 2^nd and this is DahlCast #608. Why is Brendan fucking up the date and what for? Steve is going to try to make the ads on the show more like product placement. All of Steve’s contacts got fucked up when he went to The Cloud, what’s David Hochberg’s number over at Townstone Financial?
00:04	Before the show we were chatting and Stephanie had sent Steve a document that wouldn’t convert properly for some reason. Steve asked what font she was using and she said she didn’t know. Steve thought everyone knew their font. Pete knows his font, it’s Comic Sans. Sometimes he goes Helvetica just to switch it up.
00:06	Speaking of cream Pete noticed we could use a little half & half in our coffee hutch, we’re currently out. Stephanie had to throw out a water bottle with a little bit of milk or half & half in the fridge. Unlike Stephanie who isn’t married to a font Pete is married to his food, he never throws anything out. If Janet hears this she’s going to shut the whole basement operation down.
00:10	Brendan thinks Steve should take an adult typing class. Steve’s not sure if he’s able to learn anything any more.
00:13	Steve was going to watch Glee last night because he still hasn’t seen the Michael Jackson episode. He’s not gay but he likes musicals. He started watching it but 5 minutes in decided he’d rather be reading. So that’s weird. Also Steve doesn’t really like Michael Jackson, he was always too weird.
00:16	In Steve’s defense Stephanie also read the book and so did Janet and also Jim. Of course Jim was reading two books at once. And now Steve gets the Peeta Mellark reference on 30 Rock last week. He can lord that over someone!
00:19	Steve has been watching Soledad O’Brien…through a hole he drilled in the wall, she lives next to him. Actually he’s watching her new show on CNN and it’s actually pretty good. She was the one who was talking to Mitt Romney yesterday when he said he didn’t care about the poor.
00:22	Soledad was talking about Groundhog Day because she had covered Punxsutawney Phil for several years.
00:25	Steve and Garry were asked to be the voice of the radio announcers in Groundhog Day. Steve can’t remember why they didn’t do it, maybe because they thought it was going to be lame or something. Of course Steve was portrayed as being a puker in the Drew Peterson movie so it doesn’t matter.
00:26	Brendan actually talked to one of those guys who was in Groundhog Day yesterday. If Brendan’s going to go to another job and do cool stuff can he at least sneak up tapes? It actually wasn’t that cool. The guy did say he gets out of tickets by reciting the lines.
00:30	Jim actually went up to Woodstock with his family to see the filming of the movie. He saw Bill Murray and Harold Ramis and was super excited about it because he loves Ghostbusters.
00:33	So Brendan interviewed one of these radio guys and now he’s doing recorded readings of Mark Twain books.
00:35	Yesterday Brendan was leaving work and he was waiting for the train. There was a blind guy that tried to get on the train and the door closed on his cane and he was left standing on the platform without it.
00:38	Steve plays the tape.
00:42	In other news Pete has Power of Love stuck in his head and not because he was watching Back to the Future.
00:43	Pete went to an event last night and Power of Love was playing and not in an ironic way or anything. Just in an awesome way. Of course the best use of Huey Lewis is in American Psycho. Steve saw Pete’s Tweet about it but didn’t understand what it meant. Pete was at an event where people read their stories about “firsts” and the topic was first records.
00:47	Steve’s first record was Allan Sherman’s Camp Granada, which he rode to the record store to purchase himself.
00:51	Steve plays a little from Camp Granada. These iTunes free samples are very satisfying. It’s basically the whole song!
00:54	Well the next one is in April and Pete will be sure to let Steve know when and where it’s happening. So that means Pete didn’t go to Soup & Bread last night right? The place was probably empty because they forgot to plan around First Record Night.
00:57	Steve has been hearing this Jay-Z/Kanye song on Sirius and he can’t understand what they’re saying. Stephanie says the song is called N-words in Paris.
01:00	So Beyonce has no problem with a song like that? Because Steve doesn’t think he could write a song like that and Janet would be OK with it.
01:03	And then there are the Jordan/Rose references in the song, which is very special for Brendan. For years Brendan was waiting for his favorite athletes to be mentioned in rap and now he finally has it.
01:05	The album came out over the summer but that song is a huge hit now. Watch the Throne. Steve doesn’t know what that means. Is that a threat? Is there going to be a drive-by later?
01:07	Steve is annoyed with himself for not buying the same amount of each kind of baby food. Although he didn’t want to buy too much. How much does a baby eat? He could always go back and replenish his stock but he doesn’t really like going to Whole Foods.
01:09	Well Steve can go back there if Henry needs more food. He’ll need to go that way to get his next book in the Hunger Games series. Steve could just order them from Amazon but there was a part of him that liked being treated so poorly at a place that was dying.
01:12	Steve took a picture of the sign-up sheet for the Souper Bowl party. The party is from 4-6 on Sunday so it will lead up to the beginning of the game.
01:16	Steve had no idea he could have signed up just to bring crackers, that’s super easy!
01:20	Steve’s been doing really well on his diet too so does he need to go to this? Pete said it’s great that Steve’s been doing well with his diet, but he didn’t seem too enthused. Was he making a stroking motion? He’s probably been thinking about his first record for the last hour.
01:21	Pete’s first record was the Purple Rain soundtrack, which he purchased at a bike shop/record store. How old is Pete again?
01:23	What was Brendan’s first album? He doesn’t remember specifically but it must have been some kind of hardcore rock album like Guns n’ Roses or something.
01:25	Pete and Jim were discussing their neighborhoods, which are close to each other, and how there have been some coyote sightings. Jim mentioned a coyote sighting in nearby Andersonville. A coyote? Like a person who smuggles illegals across the border?
01:27	Occasionally Stickers needs to get up in the middle of the night and use the bathroom, which must be a bummer.
01:28	Imagine Pete having a wonderful dream and then Stickers wakes him up. Speaking of dreams, Pete had this really weird dream where he and Brendan were working with Harry and Mark Silverman doing a radio show. They weren’t in the cool ESPN showcase studio. Jim is offended that he wasn’t invited along for their venture.
01:33	So anyway sometimes Pete has to wake up in the middle of the night to walk Stickers and now he’s very fearful of coyotes.
01:36	So Pete takes Stickers out and at the end of the block he sees a coyote. It’s too bad all of this didn’t happen while Pete was on his way to get his first record.
01:39	Pete didn’t have his glasses on so he didn’t realize that the coyote was in fact an old woman in black pants.

01:45	OK Ed is on the phone right now. They dumbed it down because now it’s bad lite rock and disco. Before it was old school stuff like Sinatra. Ed blames Morton’s new management. They’re trying to lighten it up a little bit and some of that is fine, like they dropped the maître’d in tuxedo look. Ed’s VIP status is probably being deleted from their system.
01:50	Everything else good Ed? He’s going to pick his car up so he wasn’t lying when he said he hit a monster pothole. Kev was very disappointed that Ed didn’t show up though; he made shepherd’s pie!

00:00	Today is February 1^st 2012 and this is DahlCast #607. Isn’t that a palindrome? Brendan said it in Pete’s voice but he was thinking it. The DahlCast is brought to you by Townstone Financial.
00:01	The Steve Dahl Show is on right now! If Pete ever gets to the point when he buys a place in Florida, which must be on his to do list, he should get one in Pompano Beach. Pete doesn’t see that happening; he’s not really a fan of Florida. He’s been there three times although once was just in Miami to get on a cruise ship. Was it a crazy German cruise with his family?
00:05	So anyway where Steve is in Florida, Pompano Beach, is like the Rogers Park of Florida. It’s not because of the trendy restaurants and bars, it’s because of the crime. Last week some kid murdered his hot mom, a woman Steve often saw on the beach.
00:07	Brendan is wondering if Steve has sampled any of the baby food yet. It’s been a while since Brendan fed a baby, as a team mother, but he remembers some of it being really tasty. On the phone right now is Kevin Matthews; he’s having Ed Silha up to his place in Michigan for a homo club weekend right?
00:11	Ed was supposed to leave Chicago early this morning and be at Kev’s today. Then Kev got a text from Ed this morning that said, “I fucked my car up last night bad! Monster pothole blew both the front tires and bent the rims!” Steve thinks that’s fake.
00:14	Kev is preparing for his next show, which he’s really excited about. He’ll have Bill Clinton on talking to Ronald Reagan from Heaven.
00:17	So anyway Kev had the house ready for Ed and he’s not coming now. Kev is going to feel really bad if Ed actually did damage his car that much.
00:22	So yeah Kev is doing some really good stuff and check that out if you haven’t already. Steve does feel bad for Kev because he seems alone up there. It seems like Kev’s wife needed a little break from him, similar to Janet needing a break from Steve ever winter.
00:23	In other news Don Cornelius has died in an apparent suicide. But first our own Chet Coppock needs to open a can of Diet Coke.
00:26	Law enforcement arrived at Cornelius’ house around 4 a.m. and discovered him dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
00:29	Pete rolled in this morning thinking he had a great observation, after watching New Girl last night. Lizzy Caplan guested on the show and of course she’s the darling of Sundance this year.
00:33	So Pete is watching New Girl and thinking of Lizzy Caplan’s career and he remembers how she started on The Class and how that show really spawned a lot of stars. Jason Ritter was on there as well as that big-nosed guy from Walking Dead.
00:36	The Wikipedia page for Can’t Hardly Wait has a section titled “Before they were Famous” so it’s something that’s known to other people. The Class was not a great concept to start off with but it got better as it went along. But you really don’t get a ton of time to build up on a sitcom, unless you’re Lorne Michaels.
00:39	Before the show Pete was also talking about how he was watching the SAG pre-show on E! and on the crawl on the bottom it said that Jennifer Love Hewitt was going to marry Joe Jonas. Pete freaked out and yelled to Mollie in the kitchen. Why is Pete watching the SAG red carpet show?!
00:43	Yesterday on the show we were talking about how Phil Emery sounds like Mr. Mackey on South Park. Mark Giangreco did a bit of a mash-up on it but Steve wasn’t hearing it so he asked Pete to make a better one.
00:44	Steve thinks Pete has topped Giangreco’s mash-up.
00:47	Although now Steve has been seeing a banner ad for Valentine’s Day at Medieval Times! Steve of course loves Medieval Times and has always wanted to host a New Year’s Eve party there. It looks really cheesy and awesome as you can imagine.
00:51	So why are they releasing all the Super Bowl commercials early? Isn’t the whole point of the Super Bowl to be surprised by the ads?
00:53	In related news the Lincoln Park Zoo is trying to get CareerBuilder.com to stop using chimps in their Super Bowl ads. Haven’t these ads be on for years?
00:57	People have been complaining about the ads for years but now the detractors are armed with a study from Duke University saying that commercialized chimps make viewers less concerned with the plight of wild chimps.
01:02	Brendan remembers the movie Project X with Matthew Broderick as a kid who discovers that chimps are being taught to fly planes and then dying. It featured chimps but it had a message to protect chimps.

01:16	Tami Sagher is on the phone right now. Tami forgot that Henry is coming down for the Souper Bowl party. Steve is bringing shrimp, by which he means Henry.
01:19	Steve has to go to this party just to get the coconut cream pie and for the stories of course. Although he really has nothing to talk to these people about. He has nothing in common with any of them. He could talk about gout, that’s probably a common ailment right?
01:22	Of course the flaw in Steve’s plan was that he’d have to call people into the bathroom to look at his pee, which seems like a men’s room violation.
01:26	Brendan has found that people don’t like being told they’re drunk by people who are younger than them. Brendan’s mom hates when she does it to him. Janet is only 4 years older than him but she also doesn’t like when he does it.
01:29	Of course the guy died in the pool where everyone has the cocktail party. Mike Dahl wouldn’t swim in it when he came down and Steve is kind of on his side since they didn’t change the water. That seems wrong!
01:32	So Steve feels the shrimp thing would set him up for even more dislike. He’d have to bring actual shrimp plus Henry.
01:34	It kind of sounds like high school to Tami with everyone in their cliques and not letting any outsiders in. Then there’s the kid who drank too much and drowned in the pool. At least that’s what happened at Brendan’s high school.
01:37	So everyone there kind of hated Steve for bringing kids in there. Although most of those people have since died and this is the second wave of old people. They might be getting to the third wave with that guy dying in the pool. But would it kill a hot girl to move in there?
01:39	Steve would prefer to live somewhere that has a lot more action. Because at his building it’s just the old people and then Janet’s family when they are down there.
01:41	Speaking of real estate, Tami is wondering if Brendan is going to be renting Steve’s condo in the city. Steve actually told Brendan to call him last night about it but they got their times mixed up with the Eastern and Central time zones.
01:44	Brendan gets pretty terrible reception at Merchandise Mart so it probably went right to voicemail. They can talk tonight if Steve wants though.
01:48	One thing Brendan would love to do to Pete, as a prank call, is to three-way call them and then listen in to figure out who called whom.
01:51	Steve has this radio prank call with two guys calling a pizza place. He gets it from a radio prep service and it really wasn’t very funny at all.
01:55	Tami wants to call these guys and do some kind of prank on them.
01:57	OK Tami, everything good out in L.A.? This is the weird time in Hollywood when they’re picking up all the pilots. And by that she’s not talking about going to the airport to meet pilots.
01:58	Sometimes L.A. has that weird desperate edge and it’s heightened during the pilot pick-up season. It’s like the Santa Ana winds or something.
02:01	In other news Mindy Kaling has a sitcom pilot going over at Fox. So does that mean she’s leaving The Office?
02:03	OK Tami well good luck riding out the Santa Ana winds. It’s weird that she hates them and Steve wants to go out there and feel it again.
02:08	Steve went to Whole Foods last night to buy the baby food and accidentally shoplifted a bottle of juice.
02:10	Steve got away with it but felt bad so he went back in to tell them about it. The people at Whole Foods in Florida aren’t as cool as the people at the Whole Foods up in Chicago. The guy looked at Steve like he was an idiot.
02:12	Steve felt he got paid back karmicly because he made a u-turn without yielding to a cop and didn’t get pulled over.
02:14	Then Steve went to Smokey Bones, a BBQ place he’s wanted to go to for a while. It ended up being really horrible so he and Janet can take that off their bucket list.

00:00	Today is Tell-a-Friend Tuesday. Steve can’t believe it’s only Tuesday! He thought it was at least Thursday. Brendan is fine just saying it’s Thursday. Steve is blaming the reading; it’s really throwing him off.
00:01	Stephanie noted that not only is today Tell-a-Friend Tuesday but it’s also Justin Timberlake’s birthday. So happy birthday to Timberlake. That really excited Pete but Steve doesn’t care unless he’s invited to his party.
00:04	When you say Justin Timberlake you expect Stephanie to show up. She’s probably baking him a cake or something. Steve definitely just heard a door open now, along with Pete cracking open a Diet Coke.
00:05	The spring water that Steve was talking about yesterday, he has finally figured out how to make the bottle stand up. Although all the bottles cop a lean like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
00:07	By the way, the DahlCast is brought to you by David Hochberg at Townstone Financial.
00:10	As a courtesy Steve invited the Snyde Remarks podcast to the network but he was rebuffed. So being turned down by them is a new low for Steve. Maybe that’s why he thinks it’s Thursday.
00:13	So they are all about this Nook thing at Barnes & Noble. It’s like a mini Apple Store right in the front of the store with a middle-aged woman trying to explain it. Then there are two people checking you out and no one to help. So a Steve Dahl has no idea where to find books for teenage girls.
00:14	As Tami Sagher pointed out Steve is like a 14-year-old girl in many ways so he’s reading The Hunger Games. There was a big display for it upstairs where the children’s reading section is although Steve did have to go up the Escalator of Shame to get it.
00:18	It seems like the only people at Barnes & Noble are the people in the café with their computers just goofy off. It seems like they’re just going to sit there all day and not buy anything.
00:19	Steve will look at his phone at Starbucks but he’s always buying something. Brendan lives by the 24-hour Starbucks and it gets pretty dicey at 2 in the morning. There are a lot of homeless squatters in there.
00:20	If Steve goes to a Starbucks and there’s a big comfy chair open he will sit there and look at his phone but he’ll leave once he’s done with his drink! He’s not going to sit there all day!
00:23	Mike Dahl read all three books in three days. It took Stephanie about three days to read the first book but that was over Christmas.
00:26	So Steve is making his way through the book but he can only read for about an hour at a time. Pete and Mollie both read in bed at night although not out loud to each other. Sometimes Pete can only get a few pages in but still feels good that he did that. Pete tries not to get frustrated if he can only read a few pages.
00:29	Steve doesn’t get why Jim is reading Game of Thrones since there’s also a TV show. He just loved the first season so much that he had to know what happened next.
00:32	Hey Tom Thayer, what’s happening? Tom is officially in our 50^th state and he just did some push-ups so he’s breathing heavily.
00:33	Tom is a little nervous because there’s a high surf warning. It’s more anticipation than anything else but he hasn’t been in the water for a while.
00:38	Outside of Steve’s window is the main Intercoastal and there was a girl out there paddling on a surfboard down the channel. Boats were coming by her and throwing off these huge wakes, which she had no choice but to ride.
00:40	So what about the Pro Bowl? Tom happened to watch it and he hated it because no one was there.
00:43	Tom also watched the Bulls/Heat game on Sunday, which was exciting. It was surprising to see D-Rose miss those shots at the end of the game.
00:47	So what about Phil Emery? Tom thinks he’s going to be good because he’s paid his dues at every level. He hasn’t been catapulted to the job of GM because he knows someone or is related to someone. The guys that he worked with at Navy when he was strength and conditioning coach just love him.
00:52	It does seem as if the Bears realize that they need to make the best of the players they currently have on their team.
00:53	Steve is wondering if Phil Emery will have to get his own L.A. Tan subscription or does he just continue using Jerry’s? Tom doesn’t think Jerry is a fake tan guy, there’s not a chance. He knows Steve has eagle eyes but he’s wrong here.
00:57	OK Tom, have fun and aloha! That means hello and goodbye. Tom sounds happy to be in Hawaii with the high surf advisory. Tom’s a good surfer though; Steve thinks he’s just underselling his abilities. He’s put together quite a life for himself. The place Tom has his condo is the best place to have it in terms of all the hot chicks that come by.

01:00	Maybe we could call it Emery’s Board? Pete noticed that Phil Emery has a Mr. Garrison thing going where he says “mmmkay?”
01:03	Brendan is pretty sure that Mr. Garrison is the wrong character. Isn’t it the principal that says “mmmkay?” Jim thought the principal was a woman.
01:06	Pete has found the clip from ABC 7. It’s Mr. Mackey from South Park. That was the same take Pete had, he just had the name wrong. Steve can’t follow what anyone is talking about here; he’s going to need a Power Point presentation.
01:10	Right now Steve isn’t really sold on the comparison but if the boys are happy then Steve’s happy. Mike Dahl was blown away by it and he’s a South Park fan.
01:12	A Northwest suburban massage parlor owner forced 4 foreign women into prostitution and tattooed them with his moniker. Steve likes where this guy was trying to go but he could face up to 15 years in prison.
01:14	Police found a man asleep in an SUV full of beer cans that was blocking traffic. After bringing the man into the police station he urinated on the floor and amused himself by playing air piano. Steve didn’t know you could play air piano. Pete is actually playing air piano right now. What is he playing, Piano Man?
01:17	The man refused a breathalyzer because he knew he was drunk.
01:20	Steve got a Craigslist posting from Stephanie, it’s an ad looking for guys for an adult website. Steve learned something yesterday that disturbed him. Pat Dahl goes on Craigslist quite a bit and he found some guy on there to come do some speaker wiring at his house.
01:22	This is under TV/video/radio jobs in the city of Chicago. They’re recruiting guys for an adult website. Starting pay for male models is $2,000 for a 2-day solo production. Steve could use the money too! They’re looking for models with no previous experience in the adult industry, 6-pack abs and are 18-35.
01:25	Steve has a feeling nothing would come of this audition though, this isn’t how they cast adult videos. Although maybe this is some new pornography meme. Is that the right use of the term “meme” There are pornography memes like the Bangbus and there’s one where girls are supposedly tricked into a car to perform a sex act for money and they are kicked out before being paid. Steve doesn’t like those though.
01:28	Ed has sent a link over for one of these “backroom” casting couches. This isn’t really a meme though is it? It’s more of a shtick.
01:32	This newspaper got the guy, Eric Whitaker, kicked out of his Scottsdale, Arizona office/studio last year. Then he revealed his positive test for Herpes on his blog.
01:36	Steve has been watching a lot of History Channel in Florida mainly because he doesn’t remember how his channels are laid out.
01:37	Steve was watching something about FDR and Pearl Harbor and on the day of the attack he had a sinus infection, which was treated with cocaine. Then people were theorize that the cocaine amped him up. Do we need to know all of this though?
01:39	If Steve were FDR’s people he wouldn’t want all of this stuff getting out. Of course FDR is dead and you can’t libel the dead.

00:00	Today is Monday, January 30^th and while you’re listening to DahlCast #605 think about David Hochberg and Townstone Financial. Do you need a loan or refi? Steve won’t be thinking of that just because it seems counterproductive. Steve would prefer that first you listen to his show and then think about David Hochberg. Although the show isn’t too heavy so maybe you could do both?
00:04	Steve is watching Family Feud for some reason. First of all his TV isn’t broken or anything. Secondly, why is this show still on and being hosted by Steve Harvey?
00:07	The Star Wars prequels are coming out in 3D before the original three are, so Jim has to wait three years before he can see something he really wants in 3D. Brendan saw the commercials for the 3 that are coming out and had forgotten Liam Neeson was in those. He loves Liam Neeson. He even gave that The Grey movie a glowing review after only seeing the preview.
00:13	Was Jim the one who tweeted about that 50/50 movie? It was him, and he was not being facetious. Steve watched the movie based on Jim’s tweet and really liked it too. They cannot believe it wasn’t nominated at all.
00:17	Jim is glad Steve enjoyed the movie even though he was annoyed watching it on Comcast. They should have a comedy category for the Academy Awards. Steve would like to see Adam Sandler get a nod for the Martin Lawrence/Eddie Murphy turn he’s taking.
00:20	Steve is going to be on with Roe this week, on Wednesday and Thursday. Steve guesses it’s good he’ll be in Florida the day after the primary, he’ll make it seem like he’s there on purpose. He’ll also know a lot of stuff because that is all that’s on the TV down there.
00:21	Steve needs to take a break but are Brendan and Pete doing a show while he’s gone? Steve needs to pee so he will let Pete and Brendan continue the show. Pete just had some breaking music news for Brendan; it was like they couldn’t wait for Steve to leave! Guns ‘n’ Roses are playing at the House of Blues on February 19^th, Brendan is excited.
00:24	Steve likes Guns ‘n’ Roses but unfortunately they’re not playing anywhere in Florida at least while he’s down there. It seems like there are a few New York shows, then Jersey, then Chicago. Those are the three Brendan thinks you have to hit.
00:26	Another artist Steve and Brendan agree is a genius is Snoop Dogg. Steve has a YouTube video of Snoop and it’s possibly the funniest thing he’s ever seen. It’s Snoop Dogg talking about Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian.
00:29	It seems to be for a website called MrGrassys.com. Must be a pot website right?
00:32	Steve is not very excited for this year’s Super Bowl, partly because it’s in Indianapolis. Watching the Pro Bowl didn’t help either. Can’t they just give tickets away for the Pro Bowl so people will show up? Or give everyone $5 to go! Steve can’t watch a football game in an empty stadium.
00:35	Steve is trying to trim costs and cut back on his wasteful spending as much as he can. Last night he went to the supermarket because he was all out of beverages.
00:36	So Steve was checking out and the cashier told him that Aquafina was on sale and it was $3 cheaper.
00:39	The only problem with Aquafina is that it’s not spring water so every time he drinks it he thinks about Tina tell him about how Dasani is sewer water.
00:42	Steve did save $3 on the water so at least he has that going for him. Normally he doesn’t get talked into stuff like that but the way the cashier put it it was like “only a fool would buy this water!”
00:43	Princess, a camel at a zoo in New Jersey, has correctly picked the winner of 5 of the last 6 Super Bowls.
00:47	This bad idea, like all bad ideas started as a radio station bit. Someone asked the camel who she liked for a game. Now they have people calling the station every week for gambling tips and also to see if she does lottery numbers.
00:50	On the phone right now is Roe Conn, who is also in Florida. He’s “covering” the primary tomorrow. That’s what Steve was planning to do for Wednesday’s show!
00:53	Roe will be back in Chicago on Wednesday and Thursday when Steve is on WLS with him. Well he should be back Wednesday as long as the flight leaves on time. It could just be Steve and Drew hosting together, that’ll be fun!
00:56	So anyway Roe was at the Mitt Romney rally and he was in mom jeans, stalking around the stage. At one point he started quoting God Bless America but he was speaking it so it was like word jazz. He also went into the lost verse of the song. Who’s going to check that?
00:59	Roe did not know that Romney finished first in his class at Harvard and he got a JDMBA. He’s also insanely rich. So there must be some consultant he hired that put him in mom jeans.
01:03	A lot of people seem concerned that Romney is a Mormon but Roe is more concerned that he might be a vampire.
01:06	Brendan thought that Rahm made most of his money off of his Adidas contract for the Air Emanuel’s.
01:07	Steve has dealt with some of these super-rich guys and they can kind of be jagoffs. He never wanted to be around those types so maybe he shot himself in the foot. Roe thinks guys like him and Steve get invited to rich guy dinners because they’re like circus clowns.
01:09	Steve’s main experience with this one guy was taking a private jet down to Florida with him and Matt Dahl. The guy wanted them to drive his daughter’s car back to Florida. The guy was actually going to take Matt Dahl to Guitar Center and buy him a guitar and amp as payment but Steve wouldn’t allow that to happen. It was a very weird trip although Matt Dahl had his permit at the time so he got a lot of time behind the wheel.
01:10	They stopped in Atlanta to stay overnight and both got an in-room massage at the same time. Steve and Matt both thought it was a very odd thing to be doing.
01:14	Roe seems a little closer to being a power broker than Steve. If Steve were trying to make a deal he’d walk away after an hour because it was taking too long. Just trying to manage this podcast network is exhausting.
01:17	There are certain parts of Florida that Roe has seen that don’t look like America. It’s just meth farm after meth farm.
01:21	Of course someone in Florida is making a ton of money giving every single person a tattoo. If you have one tattoo in Florida you’re in the minority.
01:23	As a sidekick Steve doesn’t actually mind the insane pace of Roe’s show where he’s constantly talking to a phone guest. For Steve he only has to know enough to make a few comments and then it’s on to the next person.
01:28	Another thing that makes Steve glad he’s not in radio was what he read last week about WGN doing a series of live shows from various places. The first place is a retirement home in Park Ridge with Johnny B. that doesn’t sound good does it?
01:30	Doctors in Peru have found the remains of a parasitic twin in the stomach of a 3-year-old boy.
01:31	A doctor said the condition occurs more often than you’d think.

It sounds like he’s in a bit of a hurry; he probably wants to get out of here. Brendan was just anxious to get started. Before we started Pete was admonishing Ed Silha for his late Celebrity Death Notice on Epstein from Welcome Back Kotter.
00:03	Steve wonders if anyone would pay to get him back from pirates. He’s guessing not. Brendan was wondering if maybe some pirates have those people missing from the Italian cruise ship. Steve is pretty sure the people they can’t find on the ship are just going to have to stay on the ship.
00:07	Didn’t his house just go into foreclosure in Olympia Fields or something? Brendan thinks that R is never really in danger because he can crank out new albums any time. He might want to start doing that soon then. Brendan heard he was looking for financing because he has over 30 new chapters of Trapped in the Closet.
00:08	Anyway Pete was making fun of Ed for posting about the Epstein death. Then Pete and Brendan were making fun of people who cared about it.
00:12	It’s probably beloved because it launched the career of John Travolta. Or another way to go is to blame it for the launch of his career. That would be Steve’s take on it.
00:15	Also by the way Ed Silha is saying that he doesn’t care but he tends to Tweet obscure deaths. The guy from Welcome Back Kotter is pretty obscure to Steve. Steve is getting a phone call from Kevin Matthews right now that means his show is done. He usually calls when his show is done.
00:16	OK so on to the Magic Cyclops audio.
00:18	Steve is at that dangerous point in his stay in Florida where he’s obsessed with playing audio from local TV stations.
00:21	Steve imagines today he’ll be singing the Welcome Back Kotter theme, thus reigniting his disappointment in John Sebastian. That guy used to play autoharp in The Lovin’ Spoonful. Although that instrument is super-easy to play. All you do is push a button!
00:24	Steve is having a Pete Zimmerman neighbor issue. Right across from Steve on the canal there’s a house with a dog and the dog is out in the yard all day. Every time a boat goes by the dog barks, which as you can imagine it’s really annoying. Steve has considering going to yell at them about the dog, or just shooting the dog. But where would he should the dog from so they couldn’t pin it on him.
00:28	When Steve was reading the Tweets earlier in the night and it didn’t seem like it was going to end at 11:30. The Tweet that concerned him the most was “tonight has the makings of me ditching my car and cabbing it back in the AM #Tragic”
00:31	Stephanie already had her car out because she was feeding a cat. Parking has been really bad by her lately and she knew she wouldn’t be able to find a spot so she just had Daveon get in. And then off they were to have flirtinis, whatever those are. Daveon and Stephanie’s other roommate Craig were drinking pear martinis.
00:34	Is Drag Race really that different than something what would be on Bravo? Gay people run most networks at this point anyway right? Not that Steve cares but a gay network seemed unnecessary at this point.
00:37	Steve is seeing a flirtini with raspberry vodka and the Cointreau, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, lime juice and fresh raspberries plus champagne.
00:41	Brendan remembers hearing about the wrestling mat incident while he was in school. They always warn you about ringworm and wrestling so to know that actually happened must heighten things.
00:42	Hey Buzz, what’s happening? Buzz is really sorry he missed the plastic asshole conversation. He didn’t even get the gist of it really. There was a kid in high school with Brendan that was rumored to have a plastic asshole and accidentally relieved himself on a wrestling mat. Then a friend of Brendan’s asked him about it.
00:45	When he’s not sledding Buzz is preparing for the end of the world, which he feels will happen sometime this year. Buzz has become a full-fledged nutcase. Buzz wants to know why the military is staging exercises in downtown L.A. And what about those executed Iranian nuclear scientists?
00:48	Steve should really introduce Buzz to his brother-in-law because they’re very similar. He’s stockpiling food and he’s putting his money in gold.
00:51	Being in Florida Steve has seen a lot of the coverage and it is kind of Idiot Theater.
00:55	Buzz would like to also plug the Steve Beshekas tribute this Monday, if you dare to go out of your house. Beshekas as of course a friend of John Belushi and he ran the U.S. Blues Bar in the early 80s.
00:59	Buzz can’t ever remember seeing an adult going down solo. Although he’s gone down solo. You just have to have a kid with you so it doesn’t seem weird. What about a girlfriend?
01:03	Buzz knows that the Big Brother program is a great idea but what happens if you end up with a truly rotten kid? You can’t just dump the kid, that wouldn’t be good right? Steve is pretty sure there’s a vetting process on both sides so that they match the right people up.
01:06	If Pete wants to be paid then he should become a babysitter. Would he get full fridge privileges? Can his girlfriend come over? Buzz feels those are both unwritten babysitting perks.
01:09	In Buzz’s mind Demi Moore is G.I. Jane so he’s very disappointed by all of this. Don’t even get him started on Ashton Kutcher though! The thing that bothered Brendan was she was doing whippets. Demi Moore should at least have a tank of nitrous!
01:14	Brendan can’t wait for the day that we’re calling 911 for Steve because he had a bad Red Bull reaction.
01:15	Steve has to say this is pretty shoddy 911 work. Although they should have dropped Demi Moore’s name right away.
01:17	The girl who called 911 said Demi was smoking incense. Can you smoke incense? Is that one of those weird things kids are doing like huffing bath salts?
01:20	This 911 tape makes the Charlie Sheen stuff seem sane! These people are all idiots.
01:22	All of these women at Demi’s house kind of sound like Demi Moore also.
01:24	Steve likes hearing these tapes although if this were him he wouldn’t want the tapes to be released. It wouldn’t be as enjoyable if Mancow was playing them and talking about how he always knew Steve’s heart was going to explode.
01:26	It’s bad that the person on the phone told the operator that there’s a lot of new stuff Demi has been doing that they didn’t know about. That’s when you signal to someone to flush everything you have.
01:27	Then some guy gets on the phone because all of these people are probably aspiring actors and want to get in on the tape.
01:31	The guy in the 911 tape sounds very familiar to Buzz. He’s not sure who’s in her circle but it sounds like some actor.
01:32	The guy’s name is James but Brendan doesn’t recognize the voice. Pete did hear someone say something about Rumer, perhaps that’s Rumer Willis?
01:33	Jim is wondering if maybe it’s James Belushi, did they stay friends after About Last Night? If it were Belushi we’d recognize him from his lame humor and harmonica playing.
01:34	OK well that’s the 911 tape. We shouldn’t be able to hear it but we have it so we have to play it.
01:35	Well Buzz, have a good weekend. Buzz is going to try some Red Bull because he’s never had any. Steve recommends the sugar free.

You might have noticed that we have changed the logo at the top of dahl.com to read The Steve Dahl Network. I am hard at work to make sure that is exactly what our little project will become. In addition to my daily show, we have now added a weekend “Descent into the Archives” show. This weekend’s offering is the famous Albert Brooks call in to the Steve and Garry show back in 1985. We’ve got the Kevin Matthews show on Fridays, and Kev’s Monday Express show too. I spoke to Joe Walsh on Friday and he is putting out a call to Rick the bass player this week, and we hope to have Joe’s first podcast very soon. Also, we will be adding legendary Q101 Chicago rock and roll DJ, James VanOsdol to our lineup this week. James will host a monthly 45 minute interview show and his first show will be uploaded on Wednesday. It features an interview with Paul Adelstein from Private Practice. Paul is from Chicago. I also have a hair-brained idea about contacting Chet Coppock for a weekly podcast. I’d love to get your thoughts on that. It is indeed becoming a network, and thanks to all of your for subscribing and spreading the word. This is awesome!

On Thursday’s show i mentioned that I was thinking about renting dogs to people who wanted to meet certain people at dog parks. Either that, or renting babies to guys on the beach so they can meet girls. My staff scoffed at these ideas, and rightly so, I suppose. My latest money-making schemes having been shot down, I must turn to what I know best, and that is pimping myself. You might have heard me mention on the podcast a few times that if every current subscriber could get one other person to subscribe, I would be able to get some non-phamaceutically induced sleep at night. I wasn’t kidding. If you could just take someone and sit them down in front of a computer, grab their iPhone or Android phone and make hem understand what they are missing here, you would be helping us more than you can ever imagine. Well, I guess you can imagine it. We would double our subscriber base and the success of the DahlCast, The Kevin Matthews Show and other Steve Dahl Podcast Network shows on the drawing board would be a lock. We don’t have any money for advertising, so we are relying on your word of mouth to help. We do have flash drives with the show info on them and if you email stephanie@dahl.com she will send you a few. Then you just plug it into someone’s machine, they listen to the show and more likely than not, they will want to subscribe. Everybody knows that radio really sucks these days, and most people even know how to work the satellite (which is mostly bad radio on crack) if they have one, but the podcast is a little trickier and might need a few of you early adopters (our Charter Members) to give certain people a little technical push. I hate to have to ask, but it would really mean a lot to all of us if you could help us out. Don’t make me start that baby rental business.

Pete’s girlfriend, Mollie, of La Familia Green, made a tasty vegetarian pozole stew. I was able to capture video of master-ladler Pete in action:

00:00	Today is Thursday January 26^th and DahlCast #603 is brought to you by Townstone Financial. Steve forgot to send the action shot of The Hoch at Matt Dahl’s closing yesterday. He’s not really in action though; he’s leaning against the wall in a supervisory role. Everything went off without a hitch and now Matt Dahl is a homeowner, which is kind of a frightening though.
00:04	Steve had ideas for both dog and baby rental services as a means to pick up women. Because Steve sees a lot of dog parks full of women. Imagine if you could go into that dog park with a rented dog? Brendan feels it’s a harebrained scheme but who is he to say what’s a good idea?
00:07	Speaking of pets how about that guy who got busted for field goal kicking a kitten and then doing the “It’s good!” hand gesture.
00:11	Steve was reading about how PETA wants to have signs on the side of roads to show people where cows were killed. Seriously? Steve likes animals and all but they’re not more important than people.
00:13	The Steve Dahl Show is on right now.
00:14	Speaking of abuse, what’s with Rihanna getting “thug life” tattooed on her fingers? She’s not really a thug is she? Didn’t she grow up in Barbados?
00:17	Steve saw that Pete had a fill-in on CHIRP yesterday. She had some kind of weird Twitter handle that Steve can’t remember. While Pete is looking for that Steve will read about 50 Cent’s football gambling.
00:21	Steve can’t find any more of this Twitter from 50 Cent and this other person betting with him. The Tweet Pete sent was about @SmussyOlè, that’s her Twitter handle.
00:26	And of course Pete took the week off from CHIRP because he had to get to Soup & Bread. He’s normally on there until 6 but they had to get to Hideout at 5 to set-up everything. Everything went great though.
00:29	Pete was the garnisher and Mollie was the ladler so Pete wouldn’t come out of his role initially. The soup was a big hit though; it was the second one to go. Steve is very impressed by Mollie, except for the fact that she dates Pete.
00:32	Pete actually tricked Stephanie into posting one of those videos on Petefork. They should all go right into the Tidbits section!
00:36	Steve got an email from a woman who works at Blue Crab Bay, makers of Steve’s favorite sea salt nuts.
00:39	Hey Pat Boyle, Peanut Butter, what’s happening? Pat got a Tweet from a DahlCast follower that it was Peanut Butter Day a couple of days ago. Steve always notices it’s Peanut Butter day or Donut day but after the show. Steve has been promising that he’d play the Peanut Butter Jelly Time theme song but he has neglected to do it.
00:42	Pat wants to know how things are going in Florida. Everything is good actually. Steve got up at 7:30 and he was going to go workout but the next thing he knew it was 9:00
00:45	Pat thinks that kids today have no idea how good they have it. He used to have to use pay phones!
00:51	Steve thinks Pat Boyle has something going on with the texting because his phone is locked with a code. Pat doesn’t think it’s that weird; a lot of people do that right? If someone finds your phone they’ll have all of your stuff.
00:54	Whenever Pete goes swimming at the place where the guy is showering nude
00:58	One of the guys at Comcast who was administering the fantasy football payouts had the prize money lifted from him in the locker room. Or so he says right?
01:04	Last night in the newsroom at Comcast they were playing Person You’re Strangely Attracted to. Did Sarah Kustok say it was Steve?
01:07	Steve was trying to look up Rachel Nichols but then the Stephanie video came up.
01:08	The White Sox will be donning 1972 throwback jerseys for Sunday home games this year and Comcast is giving away a jersey autographed by Bill Melton. Don’t the White Sox have more to worry about than what jerseys they’re wearing on Sunday?
01:12	Maybe Steve will use that joke for the Comcast Sportsnet awards?
01:16	Steve likes Robin Ventura and it seems like it was time for Ozzie to move on. It seems like Miami is the perfect place for Ozzie though. Brendan feels that a signing like Adam Dunn should get your fired if you’re the GM.
01:18	Pat Boyle had an interesting thing happen to him the other day. He works late and often goes grocery shopping late, which is a nice time to go.
01:22	A Connecticut man was arrested for allegedly killing and eating a homeless man. After beating the man to death he ate pieces of his brain and an eye.
01:23	Steve has it figured out in Florida for going to the supermarket when no one is there. That way you don’t have to deal with anyone getting in your way.
01:29	Brendan was wondering if Steve would be driving up to see the Republican debate tonight. He will not be doing that but he’s been seeing a lot of attack ads from those PACs. They’re all against Newt Gingrich though.
01:33	Steve was watching the news the other night and this guy had run over a kid by accident on his driveway. They had the guy on there talking about hitting the kid and then finding him and how he was dead. It was hardcore.
01:34	Speaking of hardcore, how about those Seal Team 6 guys rescuing those people from the Somali Pirates? Those dudes are like the ’27 Yankees!
01:37	Pat found the timing of the rescue right after the State of the Union to be a little weird but apparently the girl had a seriously medical condition.
01:42	Steve doesn’t get why Newt Gingrich wants a colony on the moon. What do we need that for? If Pat were cutting the budget the space program is the first to go.
01:44	Steve likes the space program although he can’t eloquently defend it. He just likes rockets.
01:48	Steve has definitely lost a little respect for Pat now that he knows he wants to cut the space program.
01:51	Pat Boyle on the Celebrity Hotline was brought to us by Big Bowl.
01:52	Steve has been talking about doing a Tweet Up in Florida but he doesn’t know if he wants to put himself out there. What if no one shows up? Or what if some weird guy shows up at Steve can’t shake him? Stephanie did get a few emails from girls so it sees problematic in that sense as well.
01:59	OK well Steve is pretty sure we’re done here unless anyone has anything else?
02:01	Does anyone watch American Idol? They were in Aspen even though it seemed like most of the people weren’t from Aspen.
02:03	They had a guy on there with a British accent even though he was from Iowa. He also claimed to have a collection of 11,000 air guitars.

00:03	Steve doesn’t know when moving day is although since he’s not helping he doesn’t really need to know. He’s an old man, he can’t be lifting stuff! Since Matt and Justine are living in Steve’s condo they can kind of move out slowly. Although Steve has a feeling that Matt doesn’t want him and Janet seeing the place and the kind of state he left it in. Brendan has been there recently and he says it looks fine. Steve feels he has very low standards though.
00:06	You can’t really rank things when you do something everyday right? How did Pete rank Obama’s State of the Union yesterday? That was his third one right? Steve didn’t watch all of the State of the Union. Pete wants to know if he cried when Obama hugged Gabrielle Giffords. Steve was watching the hockey game at the time so he shed a few tears when Crawford let those goals in.
00:10	Steve doesn’t know about the Blockbuster package. You can stream movies from Blockbuster for free apparently. Are there actually any Blockbuster stores left? Do they just stream a blank screen?
00:14	It’s like there’s a Mucinex that relieves your cough but also gives you an erection. Or ones that clear your throat but also can clean driveways.
00:18	Anyway Urlacher is taking something called Toradol and it has recently come out that there are some risky side effects. Brendan has been reading up on Toradol, because he’s a pharmacist on the side, and the side effects are indeterminate. If you use the right dosage, which the Bears have been monitored closely, it’s fine. But some NFL players are in a lawsuit against the makers of Toradol.
00:22	Football players know the risk of the sport they play. Of course Brendan would feel bad if in 10 years Urlacher was a complete mess.
00:27	Lap swim is too late though so usually Pete and Mollie like to go to adult swim because it’s earlier. Although adult swim is just a bunch of old people lounging around.
00:30	Steve did learn yesterday that they are having a Soup-er Bowl party again. Steve’s not sure if he’ll make anything but he usually doesn’t bring anything to any of the parties. Steve isn’t really a bringer; he’s more of a taker like Pete.
00:33	On the phone right now is Bill Barry from March of Dimes. Steve just wants to double check and make sure they want him to host the event again. Bill told Steve at the end of the event last year that he wants them back and Steve always assumes he’s just drunk! Bill did have a few but he still wants Steve back. This will be Steve’s 5^th year hosting the Comcast Sportsnet Sports Awards that benefits the March of Dimes. That’s going to be February 13^th at the Sheraton over on Water Street.
00:36	The inspirational athlete is always the most compelling part of the event of course. This year’s athlete is 16-year-old Tywaun Crain from North Lawndale. He has cerebral palsy but participates in several sports.
00:39	That Bill Barry loves Steve and he has no idea why. Now Steve doesn’t even have the uncertainty about next year either! Every year Bill asks him back and Steve can’t believe it. It’s fun for him to do though because it’s a totally different thing for him.
00:42	Pete was complaining about Steve’s peanuts yesterday too because he had a handful and they weren’t the ones he was hoping for. He wanted the Shuckers that Jim has been eating but he had something else instead.
00:46	Janet was also telling him that he doesn’t need to order any nuts for at least a year because these ones don’t go bad until 2013. Steve doesn’t want to be hassled about his nuts. He wants nuts to be good when he eats them because they’re good for his diet.
00:50	Brendan loves the flavored Wheat Thins because they’re often coated with a really thick powder, which gives it the flavor.
00:54	This peanut butter is going to last Steve for three weeks and he didn’t want to try to decide on a new kind of peanut butter.
00:58	Another weird thing Steve saw at the store was a woman who had purchased a piece of fried chicken in the deli and was just walking around eating it. It was a wing too, which must be tough to eat with one hand.
01:02	In high school Brendan and his friends used to sometimes get high and then go to the grocery store for free sample day.
01:03	OK so Steve knows why he was singing the Ghostbusters theme yesterday. There’s an auto group in Florida called Maroone and their jingle is “Who ya gonna call? Ma-roone!” Steve was unable to find a commercial with the jingle though. The jingle is on a lot in Florida so that’s why it was in his head.
01:06	So maybe Steve should bring something to the Soup-er Bowl party? He just doesn’t want to put himself out there like that.
01:10	Pete wanted to take the beer back because it didn’t seem like they were going to drink it. They seemed more like wine drinkers.
01:13	Tonight is Soup & Bread at The Hideout with Mollie, who is making soup. So Pete is putting himself out there or at least Mollie is making him put himself out there. Could Mollie come down and make some soup for the Soup-er Bowl party?
01:17	Janet is reminding Steve that Pat and Rachel will be down in Florida during the Soup-er Bowl party. Steve can bring his grandson, that’s better than soup!
01:20	So Pete still hasn’t apologized for stealing the paper. Last night he Tweeted a photo of himself with the paper, wearing a hooded sweatshirt like he was going to commit a robbery.
01:25	Steve has “Jason Segel birthday and Muppets song” so you can see how he got confused. Today is not Jason Segel’s birthday though right? Steve forgot about Pete making things creepy last week with wishing Jason Segel a happy birthday.
01:29	Tami wants to know if Pete has ever seen the Humble Brag Twitter feed, run by Harris Wittels from Parks & Recreation.
01:33	What else is happening out in Hollywood? Tami saw Wilco last night at the Palladium that was really cool.
01:37	Steve has not seen Albert Brooks in Drive but everyone is saying he was snubbed by the Academy. He Tweeted about that yesterday saying, “I got robbed. I don’t mean the Oscars, I mean literally my pants and shoes got stolen”. Then also “To the Academy: you don’t like me, you really don’t like me”
01:40	Steve used to have Albert Brooks on the show quite a bit but he can’t seem to get him on any more. Tami just imagines him and Steve Martin sitting in their art-filled mansions. Richard Lewis was another guy who was on a lot but not so much any more. It seems like Garry talks to him all the time. He worked harder to keep those guests after the divorce, while Steve was drinking.

00:00	Today is TAF-y Tuesday, January 24^th and this is DahlCast #601. That’s actually Tell-a-Friend not TAF-y, although it could be. It could be Tell-a-Fucking-Friend-Yourself Tuesday right? Tell-a-Friend Tuesday is brought to you by David Hochberg at Townstone Financial. Matt Dahl is closing on his house today with his…not betrothed because he’s not married yet. Steve is looking for something fancier and more Shakespearean. How about fiancé?
00:02	Steve learned while in France that at some point in the day it switches from bon jour to bon soire. If you just attempt to speak a little French over there they are much nicer to you. Also on that trip Steve learned that if you snore too loudly your son gets his own room because he won’t stop complaining.
00:05	Steve can’t ask Janet about this because she’s at the closing with Matt Dahl. Steve knows it wasn’t intentional but they were traumatized. Pete’s mom parked him in front of the meat case and now that’s why he doesn’t eat meat. Or is it just because his girlfriend is a vegetarian?
00:06	Speaking of grocery stores, and changing topics, Pete has a surprise for Brendan. Last week Brendan was talking about shopping at Jewel and playing their game where you collect stickers, similar to the Monopoly game at McDonald’s. Steve does not remember any of this. That’s because he was in the bathroom and the boys were doing their own show.
00:10	Pete was hoping for the big reveal on the air and then the fight about splitting the money. It would have been Pete’s second fight today. He didn’t fight with Mollie right? Because Steve is pretty sure none of us can take that break-up.
00:11	In the morning Pete goes out to get his two newspapers on Sundays, the Tribune and the New York Times. He’ll also grab the Sun-Times if Jim is driving. So he doesn’t have to talk?
00:15	Last Friday there was a New York Times in Pete’s courtyard and he usually only gets it on Sunday. For as long as Pete has lived in this building he is the only one who has ever gotten a newspaper so he took it in.
00:18	So Pete picks up the paper this morning and then a window pops open in the courtyard. A guy is asking him if he gets the New York Times. Pete says he gets it and the guy says that he does as well.
00:21	So the guy asked Pete what was happening when he would get the paper and Pete didn’t. Pete said that he was getting it everyday. So now Pete has to get the paper right? He has to subscribe daily now.
00:24	Pete was just really shocked that this guy was yelling at him out of the window. Plus who doesn’t get the Sunday New York Times? That’s the money paper! Clearly they’re the two most intelligent people in the building, they should just team up and dominate the condo board.
00:26	The Steve Dahl Show is on right now!
00:27	It’s also Tell-a-Friend Tuesday so tell a friend! Seriously, tell a friend!
00:31	Steve plays the song. Jim would like that turned off! It came out in the summer of ‘96; Jim first heard it driving to a Dave Matthews concert.
00:35	Pete drove the peanuts over today, so he was solo in the car rocking out to Geggy Tah. Did Pete gift himself the mix tape?
00:40	So lately, Steve noticed he just hums hooks of songs on repeat in his head. He tweeted this morning, just for the hell of it, for people to guess what 80’s theme song he was humming. 74 people commented on that on Facebook. Jim would like to guess St. Elmo’s Fire.
00:47	Steve was humming Ghostbusters, he doesn’t know why but no one guessed that either. He thinks it might have been played on Good Morning America. That Lara girl on there, Steve used to hate her and now he likes her but isn’t sure why.
00:49	Good Morning America did a piece on women planning weddings without a fiancé. Jim wants to know how you lock down dates for that but Steve didn’t notice the story get that detailed, it was more about picking out dresses. The girls didn’t really look like winners though either.
00:54	So Steve does like that new Alcatraz show, it’s really weird. Jim likes it too; there are several levels of weird happening at once. Jim wrote a review of Alcatraz on Dahl.com, and was taken to task by Ed for not mentioning how hot the girl is on there. Steve was just distracted by 2 manatees out in the water near him.
01:00	So Jim wrote about Alcatraz and got grief from Ed so he overcompensated about the hot girl in the movie Haywire. The girl in that is an MMA fighter and it’s her first movie role. Jim thought it was an awesome movie and she was really good in it.
01:01	The Haywire girl is a brunette though; Ed only likes petite blondes like Kristen Chenoweth. Ed is like the dude version of those girls who have their weddings planned already. He has already talked to Jim Fabbrini about a computer made of carnations for his wedding.
01:04	J.J. Abrams is doing this Alcatraz show and just made Super 8 last year, Jim felt that was snubbed by the Oscar nominations this morning. Steve has the list of nominations but he doesn’t like that there are 9 Best Picture nominations now that is too many.
01:06	Steve reads the Oscar nominations; he has only seen 2 of 9 Best Picture nominations. Steve still hasn’t seen Bridesmaids, is it that good? Jim and Pete liked it, Brendan hasn’t seen it yet either.
01:09	Jim thought there was some shock over that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close movie because it got terrible reviews.
01:12	Ron Lewis sent Steve his screeners finally but also sent an email about sending more as they come in as opposed to sending them all at once again. Steve told him to figure out a way to charge the shipping to someone else’s account like what happened at Steve’s country club. The guy named Mike Dahl charged a bunch of really expensive golf balls to Steve’s account.
01:14	Frank Sennett is on the phone. He has a message from Lin Brehmer, who he met last week while seeing Race. He said he has nothing but respect for Steve and he’s going to have to fucking deal with that. The thing Steve remembered about Lin was that he’s funnier off the air than on the air.
01:17	Steve has heard Race is very good but he’s never seen a David Mamet play. He saw half of Glengarry and found it very depressing.
01:18	Was it a who’s who of Chicago celebs at Race last night? Roy Leonard was there along with Mark Caro and Walter Jacobson. Frank saw him in the men’s room. Was he the attendant?
01:22	Steve is looking for an article about Walter Jacobson’s DUI but he can’t find a good one.
01:25	In order to be a bathroom attendant Jacobson would need old cologne and mints covered in other people’s poop. Steve knows how to work a faucet; he doesn’t need someone else to help him!
01:28	What else is happening Frank? There’s a nice Valentine’s Day restaurant guide on the Time Out website this week. It might be too late to book right? Frank was in a meeting this morning so he ended up coming on late. It was the once-every-18-months sexual harassment meeting. He can’t leave that because it’s for his benefit. Every example is something Frank has done right?
01:30	Of course every year Time Out does the sex issue so that can be tricky. For instance last year they got a bunch of free sex toys for the issue and someone wanted to put them on the free table. The HR guy eventually said no to that. What kind of country have we become? You can’t just walk up to some girl getting yogurt and ask, “Do they ever get this purple?”
01:31	They also sent along male sex toys like a rubber vagina. Steve doesn’t get those at all. If you look down and realize you’re using that wouldn’t you stop yourself? How much can you suspend disbelief and be into using that?
01:33	Steve remembers having to buy a sex doll for a comedy bit when he was working in Detroit. It was weird just being in the sex shop.
01:34	At the time the dolls only had two holes and the mouth hole was a recent addition. It took years for them to add the anus to sex dolls.
01:37	But yes Steve did buy a sex doll though he never used it. He never understood how that thing could actually get the job done.
01:38	OK we should really stop talking about this before Frank loses his job. We haven’t said his full name yet have we? Don’t leave any dildos around the office!

Haywire for “Haywire”

Over the weekend I saw Haywire, one of the breeziest, most efficient, jam-packed action-spy movies I’ve ever seen. Steven Soderbergh conceived of the concept for the movie after seeing MMA fighter and lead Gina Carano in action during a match. Also, Gina Carano has large breasts. Ed Silha took me to task for not mentioning Sarah Jones in my Alcatraz review so I’m just getting this out of the way now. Soderbergh then commissioned screenwriter Lem Dobbs to write a starring vehicle for the buxom Carano.

Soderbergh and Dobbs previously collaborated on The Limey, a very similar revenge movie featuring the always badass Terence Stamp. I don’t remember how hot the women in that movie were but I’m sure there were a few lookers. Soderbergh and Dobbs also recorded a now-famous, very contentious commentary track for the DVD release.

In Haywire the attractive Carano plays an independent contractor usually working covert government jobs. For her first acting role I was very impressed with her chops. She holds her own with Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor and Michael Douglas, who has a very attractive wife. Soderbergh’s directing is as always top notch and as I said earlier the movie is extremely efficient. There’s no fluff, just 90 minutes of straight up ass-kicking and espionage. David Holmes’ score is very reminiscent of his work in the Ocean’s movies and the movie itself has an Ocean’s feel to it, albeit slightly darker.

I’m highly recommending this movie and hope you’ve enjoyed my review along with the obligatory mentions of how hot Gina Carano is.

00:00	Today is Monday, January 23^rd…get ready for it Pete! This is DahlCast #600! AHHHHHH! OHHHHHHH! Even Steve is impressed by that. 600 is a lot of podcasts! DahlCast #600 is brought to you by Townstone Financial. That doesn’t count the archived shows right? So that means the staff has come to Steve’s house 600 times?!
00:02	The Steve Dahl Show is on right now and Steve has been reading even though it’s for losers. He’s reading the Steve Jobs biography. After that he’s going to write a book called Steve’s Jobs about all the jobs he’s held. The cover will feature a photo of Steve with his hand on his chin looking pensively. The book is a slow read for Steve because there are a lot of names. One of Steve’s biggest OCD reading things is knowing where someone’s name appeared earlier in the story.
00:04	Steve isn’t far enough into the book where he feels good about it. He doesn’t think he’s going to finish reading it but he knows how it ends. He invents the iPod and the iPad and then he dies of cancer. Steve is going to go get the book right now.
00:06	On the phone right now though is Jim Shorts. How was Jim’s weekend? He lost two grand and if he doesn’t pay by 5 PM today he’ll be hurt. These guys Jim is into are nuts too. They’ll pull your balls off with pliers. Jim picked New England to win and he also picked the 49ers because he wanted Harbaugh to win. Jim remembers Ditka just beating the crap out of Harbaugh.
00:09	The kid who fumbled the ball for the 49ers yesterday is the son of Kenny Williams. That tells Jim something for sure. The whole family shouldn’t even be in sports and because of him Jim is going to get his balls pulled off.
00:13	Steve has to say that podcasting is really a perfect medium for Jim. Everyone finally gets to hear the Jim Shorts that Steve has only known behind-the-scenes. It’s all for the kids though right? That’s why we’re here.
00:17	Steve thought he lost his place in his book but thankfully he didn’t. It’s a really heavy book and he’s been reading it in bed. Steve is at page 145 of 580 so he has a while to go.
00:20	Steve is at least off wanting to take acid like he was when he first started reading it. Now Steve just wants to take a shower to make sure he doesn’t have B.O. Pete reads in bed every night and usually falls asleep while doing it. The book he’s reading now is very heavy and he hit himself in the face several times.
00:23	Steve has been down in Florida for two weeks and it’s taken him that log to get to 145 pages. Steve feels he’s read enough and he gets it. Pete disagrees about that. Steve has no thirst for knowledge though.
00:26	Steve went golfing yesterday and then got a burger at some place owned by a guy who used to play for the Dolphins.
00:27	Steve didn’t want to stay and watch the games because people were showing up in Ravens jerseys. Steve did see a lot of dudes drinking Michelob Ultra Light, which he thought was a girl’s beer.
00:30	Apparently the best thing at this burger place is the wings but Steve’s trying to eat better in Florida. He didn’t even eat the top bun of his burger so he probably looked like a girl.
00:33	OK on the phone right now is Tom Thayer. Steve was just talking about the Stunning Cundiff. Tom has two scenarios to ask Steve about. Would you rather be the kicker or the punt returner in that second game? Steve would rather be in the stands! That punt returner is Kenny Williams’ son! Tom remembers him from when he was going to high school in Plainfield.
00:36	Tom was pulling for Harbaugh and it’s still impressive that he got the 49ers so far in his first year. Brendan was also glad to finally see Bill Belichick get a break. 00:38	Tom wanted to ask Steve about his portrayal in the Drew Peterson movie. Tom definitely felt Steve was slighted in terms of his look and appearance. The guy in the movie was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and had a mustache. Steve never had a mustache and he never talked like a jive DJ.
00:41	There were definitely a lot of inaccuracies in the movie but at least they had the garage door scene right?
00:46	So what about the Super Bowl, who does Steve like? Does he want Eli to win another Super Bowl? That would be more than Peyton!
00:48	Why were people up in arms about the way Steven Tyler screamed his way through the National Anthem? He always does it like that! That’s how he sings, you shouldn’t be surprised. Steve has seen way worse renditions from Steven Tyler.
00:52	Kelly Clarkson is doing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl, Steve loves her. She wrote Mr. Know-it-All about him.
00:55	So what about the Bears GM search? What about Phil Emery? Tom knows him because he was a scout with the Bears before he worked his way up to this level with various other teams. Phil and Tim Ruskell are the guys that Tom knows the best.
00:58	OK Tom, we’ll talk to you next week right? We might have to talk on Tuesday because on Monday Tom will be in the air. Last year he was supposed to leave and the blizzard hit so it pushed his departure back a few days.

01:02	Brendan noticed the announcer for the Baltimore Ravens is named Gerry Sandusky so that has to be tough. So on the day that Jerry Sandusky watched his mentor and the guy who allowed shower raping to go on, Gerry Sandusky watched Billy Cundiff rape the heart of Ravens fans. That’s kind of a stretch.
01:04	Steve kind of felt bad for Kyle Williams though. Those are two pretty big mistakes there. Hopefully he’ll recover.
01:07	Two young Central Pennsylvanians are accused of trying to set a car on fire using tampons. The woman also faces charges of making terroristic threats after allegedly vowing to “fucking kill” a state trooper. You really can’t say that. On January 7^th at 3:15 AM, which is when these kind of things happen, troopers arrived at the Hillside Tavern in Metal Township and found a damaged 2006 green Ford Fusion.
01:10	Does it make Steve really old that he remembers gas being that cheap? Stephanie remembers gas being 99¢ when she was going to Moraine Valley Community College.
01:16	Steve recently unfriended everyone on Facebook who wasn’t a subscriber. He had exactly 100 friends and now he has 36. Steve unfriended a ton of people in Janet’s family who weren’t subscribers.
01:19	Most of Steve’s friends were Janet’s family and a few media people, along with any listeners who were cute girls.
01:20	So Jay Cutler knocked up K-Cav so now we have Jay Pa. The first thing Stephanie thought was that K-Cav did it on purpose. She certainly wouldn’t have been the first to do that.
01:23	What’s happening up in the RP Pedro? A lot of people are dyin’, that’s what. Two men were in a car stopped at a traffic light when they were shot and killed. That caused the vehicle they were riding in to strike a tree near the 7600 block of North Sheridan.
01:26	This just in, Mark Kirk has suffered a stroke. Pete knew all about this but he was keeping it from Steve. He had surgery already and the doctors believe it was successful.
01:29	Tracy Morgan collapsed over the weekend at Sundance but he’s supposedly doing fine as well. Steve saw that Billy Dec was at Sundance for some reason. Why is he at Sundance? Did he make a movie? He just Tweets photos of stuff from his restaurant. Over the weekend he Tweeted a photo of the gift room and there were 10 pairs of Sorel boots. He couldn’t decide which pair to pick so he was asking his Twitter followers.
01:32	Tracy Morgan passed out, it seems like maybe he had altitude sickness or something. Maybe he got dizzy watching Billy Dec trying on Sorel boots?
01:35	Billy’s always having stupid contests for interns on Twitter, which is basically just free help. We should have an intern contest for Florida. Steve could use some help down at the condo getting stuff from the printer or grabbing something else he needs.
01:37	What about that Tweet-up? Steve needs to figure out how to do that do. He just does it right?
01:41	Steve is coming back to Chicago on February 10^th to host the Comcast Awards. On the 11^th he’s taping something with Tony Esposito for the opening of the show. Then on Monday is the show.
01:44	Pete went to Ron Lewis’ house over the weekend to pick up a huge box of Steve’s special nuts. It’s very heavy; there must be 100 canisters in there. There were 100 but now there are probably 25 right?
01:47	Speaking of Stickers, Steve went to his own website on Saturday and there were a million pictures of Stickers on the home page! If Steve’s dogs see that they’re not going to be happy.
01:48	Steve had to upload a bunch of new stuff to get Stickers off of there. Also Steve noticed that Stephanie doesn’t put captions on any of the photos she uploads. So Steve had to go through and put captions in all of them.

Kevheads: Life is good when you think you have hit rock bottom, but rock bottom means a new adventure in life. It’s is so wonderful to talk daily to Steve Dahl, to read mail from you Kevheads and to watch the Podcasts grow. It really hit me this week, it’s sad to think that radio is dead. I am glad that decades ago I began to use the Internet, we launched Kevhead Dot Com in 1996, we are now living here at Dahl.com It was great to put a HD camera in studio five years ago, Facebook, Twitter, the iPhone, it was easy decades ago to embrace technology and now it continues right here at Dahl.com

Steve and I and others broke new paths, inventing a new way to listen to radio decades ago. It was beautiful then, but today its following the path of the newspaper and the old dial phones, the typewriter and …. So it goes.

I love the Podcasts, no rules, no FCC, no stupid Program Directors, not hearing the same 100 songs everyday, its time to just say goodbye and look forward to the future and the future is right here at Dahl.com

J.J. Abrams’ latest mind-bending sci-fi TV show, Alcatraz, premiered this week on Fox. It’s another show about a mysterious island and it also features Jorge Garcia basically playing the same character he played on Lost; that of the jovial, comic book-loving, viewer’s surrogate. Of course since it’s J.J. Abrams it will no doubt have a very dense mythology. I mean we all know how labyrinthine those episodes of Felicity were right?

It doesn’t take much for a sci-fi drama to get me hooked and Abrams in particular has a knack for hooking viewer’s like me in the first scene. On Lost it was an eye opening in a bamboo forest, eerily silent, then slowly building to the noisy carnage of a massive plane wreck. On Alcatraz a boat docks at the famous island for a prisoner transfer and there’s no one there to meet them. Once inside, the prison is completely empty. OK, sign me up!

The show jumps between present day San Francisco where an SFPD detective, a comic book store owner & Alcatraz expert and two shadowy government agents investigate the sudden reappearance of the missing inmates. Also the inmates haven’t aged a day in all that day. Why are they returning now? Why haven’t they aged? Where were they all these years? Who is sending them on missions to kill people in the present day? The stellar cast features the always awesome and somewhat ominous Sam Neill as well as Robert Forster.

Alcatraz seems like a freak-of-the-week (to borrow a term from Buffy) kind of show where the team is investigating a newly reappeared Alcatraz inmate. You might not have to watch every episode to understand what’s going on, but I’m hopeful that watching every episode will be a more rewarding experience as they slowly dole out answers about the overall mythology of the show, while of course presenting new questions in that maddening J.J. Abrams way.

I’m giving Alcatraz a 3 Goblin rating for now but since I’ve only seen the first two episodes that could change. When Fringe first started Abrams promised it would be a freak-of-the-week show where you didn’t have to watch every single episode and study outside material like Lost. They quickly threw that out the window and the show was much better for it, although the ratings suffered and it’s now on the Friday Night Death Slot. Time will tell if he same happens for Alcatraz but either way I think it’ll be an enjoyable show.

Alcatraz airs Monday’s at 8:00 PM on the American Idol Network.

00:00	Today is Friday January 20^th and this is DahlCast #599. It’s brought to you by Townstone Financial. Call David Hochberg! Thanks Brendan, what a professional job you did right there. Steve is doing a remote from his remote today he’s on his back porch doing the show. It’s only 10 feet from where he normally broadcasts but it’s still a remote.
00:02	It’s a sunny Friday in South Florida but Steve knows the weather is really bad in Chicago. We’re under Storm Watch and expecting 6-10 inches of snow. The airlines have canceled over 280 flights, which is nice of them to do. Why not just wait and see what happens?
00:05	Steve is on his flamingo and it is Friday. Can Steve still call his balcony a flamingo? He’s been trying to years to get that to catch on and it never did. And this year only like 4 people asked for the FlamingoCam so he hasn’t even fired that up. Last year when he had the FlamingoCam he would walk around naked sometimes and forget that it was on.
00:08	Steve has two breakfast items that he eats in Florida. One of them is English Muffins with a tablespoon of peanut butter and butter. Then Steve will have a glass of fruit juice. On the days when Steve is really trying to lose wait he goes grapefruit juice instead of orange juice.
00:11	Steve also likes taking a chunk of frozen raspberries and putting peanut butter on that. It’s kind of like that granita.
00:13	Brendan is aware of the fact that peanut butter prices are rising. Steve honestly doesn’t look at the price although there was that hurricane in Virginia last year and he’s pretty sure it’s affecting his favorite Blue Crab Bay peanuts.
00:16	Jim has been eating honey-roasted pecans, which are very good. The Skipjacks are really good and they’re a nice change of pace from the regular peanut.
00:18	Steve got his camera today and it came in a huge box. Steve figures if he has a professional camera while he’s taking pictures of girls on the beach it’ll seem less perverted. Pete and Brendan aren’t too sure about that one. It’s a little of column A and a little of column B.
00:19	It seems like we lost Steve there. Brendan will say that the reason he noticed peanut butter prices is because he was at Jewel yesterday and he went down the peanut butter aisle just to check things out. Even the Jewel generic brand was a little pricey! He looked at the far end and Jif was on sale so he got some of that.
00:20	Brendan was also going to ask Steve is orange juice is cheaper in Florida. Brendan was wondering if Pete was playing the Jewel game.
00:23	Brendan was looking at his sister’s game board and it reminded him of the McDonald’s Monopoly board. She’s missing all the key pieces. OK Steve is back. Were Pete and Brendan doing a show without him?
00:25	First Steve got an IM from Pete that said, “we lost you?” Of course they lost him! Or he just stopped talking in the middle of a sentence because he’s not getting paid enough. He’s like Lin Brehmer, work cheap and be nice right?
00:26	Did Pete happen to see the Rob Feder salute to 20 years of Lin Brehmer doing nothing? Lin is a nice guy though.
00:30	Yesterday morning Pete checked in with Eric & Kathy because he drove out to the house. They were fast and furious with their topics. One of them was if a guy could pick two of four attributes for their girlfriend-attractive, fun, caring and smart-most guys would pick attractive and caring. They left out an important attribute, good fuck.
00:33	Lin’s answer was “work cheap and don’t take yourself to seriously” He also said that in spite of what you’ve heard he’s a really nice guy. Steve wanted to punch him in the face after reading that. What does he do? Talk about cool music that’s coming to down? Talk about the Cubs?
00:36	Pete was also excited that he got to listen to Fresh Air on the way home yesterday. Why is Pete driving so much? Danielle needed the car so Pete was called into action. So that means Jim got to fall back asleep while listening to NPR?
00:40	Pete was excited to hear from Michael Fassbender but first up Terri Gross was going to be interviewing the author of a book called Mushroom. That ended up being pretty interesting though.
00:41	On the phone right now is Frank Sennett. He always wanted to dislike Lin’s Bin but he ended up liking it. Why is everyone on Lin Brehmer’s side here?! Steve just wanted to mock Lin for saying he worked cheap and he was nice. He’s basically saying Steve priced himself out of a job and that annoys him. Frank wanted to mock Lin but it was hard to do it.
00:44	So what else is happening Frank? Steve felt like he was cheating on Frank because he talked to Chuck Sudo. Frank’s OK, Chuck is a nice guy. Steve wasn’t happy that Chuck was on a cellphone but apparently he doesn’t have a landline. Frank can understand that because phone service is really shitty.
00:46	Steve is demanding a link to Lin’s Bin that actually works! In the meantime Frank can say that being on with Steve has opened the door to a lot of lovely Twitter followers who converse with him on there. Lovely like attractive? They are attractive but it’s also nice conversation. Steve can’t get mixed up in that now that he’s alone in Florida. Next thing you know his wang is up on the internet.
00:50	This Lin’s Bin is about talking to bartenders and telling them all your problems, something Brendan never understood. Pete will do that sometimes. So the bartenders probably dread when he walks in. He’s going to sit there for 4 hours nursing one beer telling them about what a horrible boss Steve is.
00:54	Steve was at a bar last night and he snapped a photo of someone who looked like Pete. He had a scarf on and maybe dreadlocks but otherwise it was Pete.
00:58	Portlandia brought their tour to the Hideout on Wednesday night, postponing the Soup & Bread dinner for a week.
01:01	So anyway the Lifetime movie about Drew Peterson, Untouchable, airs this weekend. Time Out Chicago interviewed the author of the book Fatal Vows and then they also did some fact checking of the movie.
01:04	Steve also has some audio from Drew’s appearance on the Jack FM show. Steve was very uncomfortable talking to Drew.
01:07	Steve knew he’d be able to handle Drew, he knew he’d be able to figure out a way to get Drew off the air before a date was actually selected for him. But he didn’t know how he’d actually be able to do it until it got to that point.
01:10	What else is wrong in this movie? The author felt that Lowe’s characterization of Peterson was off, although that mustache looks great.
01:14	There was an article today about whether or not Drew got to watch his movie in prison. There are three TVs in the rec room that are all on the same channel so they have to vote for what channel to watch. There’s also a Bulls game on tonight so that could be a tough vote.
01:17	Steve can’t believe Stacey’s family is watching the movie in a hotel. Brendan heard the Savio’s are watching it from a bathtub.
01:22	And what about Obama singing Al Green, how do we feel about that? He has a pretty good voice actually. Steve would like to see Mitt Romney do that!
01:23	If Obama acts like this during the rest of the campaign he’ll get 60% of the vote. He’s fun and self-assured. You watch Gingrich and Mitt Romney and it’s just weird. Gingrich is talking about an open marriage, what does that have to do with anything?
01:26	OK Frank, have a good one. Steve feels much better after talking to Chuck yesterday. Frank Sennett on the Celebrity Hotline is brought to you by Big Bowl.
01:27	Steve is pretty sure we have a Retweeting thing going on this week where if you Retweet the Daily Dose of Dahl you’re eligible to win a $50 Big Bowl gift certificate. OK Buzz is on the phone right now gearing up for the blizzard. By that he means finding the snow shovel for Aimee right?
01:29	Buzz was very excited to get on with Steve today because he thought he’d be talking about this tribute to Steve Beshekas, who died last month. Steve was a great guy and unlike many of us he was a force for good in humanity. They’re planning a tribute for him at the brand new Underground Wonderbar on Clark.
01:32	So Buzz will be promoting this thing next Friday at the Underground Wonderbar. It’s a great place though.
01:36	The purpose of the chip is for drug companies to know if you’re taking your meds properly. So it relays that information back to them. If it can do that it can do anything right?
01:39	What occurred to Buzz watching this documentary is that Jerry Lewis defined comedy when he was growing up. Everything Buzz did that he thought was funny is a Jerry Lewis move!
01:40	Jerry Lewis is definitely a genius but he’s a ponderous, pompous genius nonetheless.
01:43	Buzz is pretty sure he and Aimee are close to setting up a fight for Piper in L.A. One of her specialties in martial arts is savate, which is French kickboxing.
01:44	Piper is ranked in savate so there’s an opportunity for her to fight against another savate kid. It’s such a French thing because no one gets hurt it’s all finesse.
01:47	OK well let us know what’s going on with Piper. Buzz has to go to L.A. if that happens and he’ll be rolling out there. He might need to get representation for her too just so he doesn’t miss out on anything.

00:01	Steve went for a walk on the beach this morning while having a staff meeting on the phone. He has stopped saying that he’s running because he really doesn’t run. He’s not rapid. Normally Steve does it after the show but he thought he’d try it early today.
00:03	Steve goes with a heart rate monitor when he walks on the beach. He has multiple heart rate monitors spread out at his many homes. Really what happens is he brings one somewhere and forgets it and has to bring another one.
00:07	Steve always makes fun of Jesse White and the 2 millisecond wait time at the DMV but the lines in Florida are really long. John went there yesterday for Steve and he waited for an hour.
00:10	Steve does enjoy looking at all the tattoos on the beach. There was a family yesterday with two parents in their mid-20s playing with their kid and the parents were covered in tattoos. They were weird tattoos too. The girl had one on her bicep and Steve swears it was Marilyn Monroe as a librarian.
00:13	Pete and Mollie walk by a tattoo place everyday and Pete always looks in but he never sees anything he really likes. Steve of course has Jake on one bicep and Elwood on the other, with the Blues Mobile on his stomach. His belly button is the siren.
00:16	Steve is really the only person who doesn’t have a tattoo and he can’t think of anything to get anyway. Back in 2005 there was talk of Steve and the Dahl boys getting White Sox tattoos but he put the kibosh on it. They got to call Steve a pussy but really they didn’t want one either.
00:18	Steve has to give kudos to Brendan for never getting a tattoo considering all of his drunken escapades. In college Jim toyed with getting a Dave Matthews Band tattoo, he’s really glad he didn’t do that. At the time he thought to himself “I’ll never not love Dave Matthews Band” Unfortunately he did get that Rusted Root tattoo.
00:21	Steve has been plenty drunk in his life but getting a tattoo never occurred to him. He is sorry that Jim didn’t get the Dave Matthews tattoo. That would have been awesome.
00:22	Yesterday we were talking with Tami Sagher from How I Met Your Mother about the Pink Berry guy attacking the homeless guy with a tire iron. We theorized that he didn’t like homeless guys because they can’t afford Pink Berry. So Brendan found a homeless guy yesterday and took him to Pink Berry to test the waters. Is it a company-wide policy to hate the homeless?
00:23	Let’s go to the audiotape right now.
00:29	Brendan and the homeless guy were probably the only people at Pink Berry since it’s freezing out and no one wants frozen yogurt.
00:32	In the next piece of audio Brendan gets the homeless guy’s review of the Pink Berry.
00:34	On the phone right now is Chuck Sudo, editor-in-chief of Chicagoist. How does Chuck feel about Pink Berry? He could actually care less about it. Steve doesn’t like going to any place where there are that many choices and where you have to wait for the people in front of you to make choices.
00:36	So Chicagoist is co-hosting a viewing party at Liar’s Club with Do312.com for the Drew Peterson Lifetime movie.
00:39	Steve wasn’t really going to set Drew up on a date!
00:43	Steve wants to read through the drinking game like he and Chuck are Eric & Kathy.
00:47	So that’s 6:30 at Liar’s Club on Saturday night.
00:48	Chuck doesn’t think he’ll play the drinking game; he might be too old for that. It seems like the point of a drinking game is to get your really hammered.
00:51	Steve is in the Screen Actors Guild so he does get movie screeners so he can vote for the SAG awards.
00:52	Back in the old days when Steve would get a screener Ron would send it via Fed Ex. Now that Steve is no longer being paid by CBS Ron is collecting them to send at once. So he has like 50 movies to send to him.
00:55	So anyway Ron has like 20 screener copies and he won’t send them. He did have Ron send Janet The Artist because she likes to have screenings with her friends.
00:58	Cinemagoers in Britain are complaining that The Artist has no dialogue. Cinema staff asked one person attending a showing in Liverpool if she knew it was a silent film, after a wave of complaints. There is sound but it’s mostly music or sound effects. There is a little dialogue according to Pete.
01:01	Speaking of British people, Brendan was playing basketball the other day and a British guy wearing a Rex Grossman jersey joined their game. He was really awful. It was also funny hearing a British accent out there. He was a real chucker though.
01:02	Police allege that a woman in Burbank, California offered sexual favors in exchange for Chicken McNuggets at McDonald’s. Hopefully it was at least a 20 piece.
01:05	Chuck Sudo on the Celebrity Hotline was brought to us by Big Bowl.
01:06	Steve hasn’t gone to the GOB-HOMO line lately although mainly because there haven’t been many good voicemails. It’s mostly two guys who call in all the time and leave messages. The one guy who calls all the time, Fred, doesn’t even have his own name on the caller ID. It’s some woman’s name, like he can’t get an account in his own name.
01:09	Jim says the Flyers are no more, they’re defunct. Did Jim ever get a Schaumburg Flyers tattoo? Every time Steve goes from O’Hare to home he sees that Chicago Bandits softball field, it looks really nice.
01:10	Pete just received an email yesterday about the upcoming Chicago Media League softball season. There’s going to be a meeting in the next few weeks. At a brewpub?
01:14	It was such a success last year that they’re looking to expand to weekend games. Steve’s not sure about that; let’s just keep it on the weekdays. Brendan wants the DahlCast to have a team; he’d like to play softball.
01:16	Steve did get into it with that kid in the skinny jeans, Austin. Pete keeps saying the kid’s name but Steve is never going to remember it or use his name. But he has to defend his teammate.
01:17	Of course Pete hasn’t talked to any of those people since the softball game. He didn’t go to the Christmas party; he kind of had a Pete meltdown.
01:20	Some subconscious part of Pete’s brain realized that he needed to stop doing all these weird things.
01:23	Pete talked about this on the show but Steve doesn’t remember it at all. After the show today the staff will ask Steve what he wants to use to promote the show and he won’t remember anything he talked about. That’s just how he is.
01:26	If Pete had had the time to get a few pops in him he might have been able to get it together to go out.
01:27	Steve feels Pete has 3 of these incidents in him before something goes bad with Mollie. Pete has always acted out though, since he was a little kid.
01:28	In Florida news a man was arrested on December 30^th for wiping iguana feces on a teenager. He also threw a bottle at the kid’s head.
01:29	The guy struck the kid with a tray that had iguana feces on it. Then the feces were smeared on his face.
01:30	It doesn’t really say how these two are related. Is this like the kid’s mom’s boyfriend? He told his coach for some reason, why would he do that?

Time to Start Trimming the Fat

No, I’m not re-visiting the unfortunate departure of Mary. I’m talking about literal fat.

You most likely haven’t noticed my absence from the site, but I apologize anyways for abandoning ship. I’ve been writing regularly about all things alcohol for the website Guyism and that, combined with my real full-time job has pretty well monopolized my time.

Day 1 - No, I'm not sticking my stomach out.

While drinking is one of my favorite hobbies, constantly sampling and reviewing has lead me to pack on a substantial amount of weight. Maybe I should have just stuck with Dahl.com. The name “Flint Skinny” has never alluded to body size, but I can’t in good conscience continue running around with that moniker if I’m going to be overweight. Unfortunately, I found myself on the scale at 222 lbs this past Monday morning. I can honestly say I never thought I would be over 200, but obviously eating and drinking had different plans for me. Steve’s weight loss was very inspiring to me, so what better audience than his with whom to share this story? You have all been supportive throughout his incredible transformation, so I figured I’d share my journey with you as well.

As a goal, I’ve decided to run the Chicago Marathon this October, but I have an incredibly long way to go in order to even attempt it. I’ve committed to running it for the charity Open Heart Magic (Full disclosure: I volunteer/work for them too), so that should help provide motivation beyond personal health and vanity. I can’t think of anything worse than letting down an indefinite number of sick children. If you’ll allow me, I plan to chronicle my journey back to fighting shape here on Dahl.com. You can also follow along in 140 characters or less on twitter @FlintSkinny, though this will make up a very small percentage of my tweeting.

In very Steve Dahl fashion, I have no doubt that I will be very self-deprecating along the way. Don’t take it as fishing for support; that’s just the way I operate. Feel free to laugh at the fat jokes and even heckle if you see fit. This is meant to be entertaining after all.

00:00	Today is Wednesday, January 18^th DahlCast #597 is brought to you by Townstone Financial. Steve talked to The Hoch last night although he’s not exactly sure, something about selling energy. It was cellphone-to-cellphone so it was difficult to understand. David is involved in reselling electricity but it sounded like a pyramid scheme to Steve.
00:04	Steve saw Pete Tweeting about the CHIRP anniversary yesterday but it seemed like a lot longer than two years to Steve. It felt more like 5 years.
00:07	Speaking of which, Steve is on Dahl.com right now and he’s looking at a picture of that dolphin vibrator we were talking about last week. Steve mistakenly thought the small part on top went in the butt but apparently it doesn’t. Looking at it in hindsight, no pun intended, there’s really no way that would work.
00:10	Stephanie said she knew about the dolphin vibrator but didn’t want to say anything. She should correct him right away; he doesn’t want people thinking he’s stupid when it comes to sex stuff. He can’t have that on his record.
00:13	Yesterday Steve talked to some guy who does a podcast and he asked him which of his staff members he would eat first if they were on a desert island. Did Steve just hear a really loud slurping noise? It was Pete drinking some coffee.
00:16	Steve also had to leave a question that the guy was going to ask for the next guest, although he didn’t know who the next guest was. Luckily Steve had read up on what they were talking about on the show so he asked “Are you down with The Clown?” because he knew they were talking about Insane Clown Posse on the show.
00:18	Today they’re doing that whole internet protest for SOPA, which Steve thought was a Mexican sandwich. Those are actually sopes. Someone posted that if they pass this SOPA thing it’ll be the end of the DahlCast, which caused Steve to go check it out. It didn’t seem to really affect us though. Pete says SOPA is a slippery slope. First this will pass and then other legislation might pass after that.
00:21	Steve is drinking Fiji water today, which he normally doesn’t drink. Steve was at Walgreens getting some sleep meds and they had Fiji so he bought it, although it seems pretentious. Although almost all bottled water seems pretentious.
00:26	Jesus Pete, that is a really loud noise you’re making when you drink. Yesterday both Jim and Stephanie noticed that Pete was eating a banana so loud right into the mic.
00:29	Then some people started doing that thing where they said they liked the first season but haven’t liked it since then. That might have been Pete, he’s like that. Steve doesn’t care; he can’t compare the first season to the second season. It was on and he had nothing to do and it took up an hour of his time.
00:32	Pete remembers Steve having him on the show once. Steve tried to talk to him about his music career but he didn’t seem interested in that topic. Steve actually has a Michael Dinner song in his iTunes. He likes this song and when people hear it they’re going to accuse him of being gay. Brendan wouldn’t call it gay but it’s not fun to listen to.
00:34	Van Halen is back together and who cares? Does anyone care? Their new song is really bad.
00:35	Steve went to grade school with David Lee Roth and beat the shit out of him. Steve had him on the show once and he didn’t remember the beatings or even going to school with him. Roth used to pick on this kid who shit his pants so Steve decided to stick up for him.
00:38	Steve just took a break and Brendan was telling Pete a story about a kid at his high school. The rumor going around was that he had a plastic asshole. Brendan has no idea if it was true but it was common knowledge. Brendan never asked him if it was true.
00:41	Steve is seeing that Janet is checking in from the sunroom with a bunch of stuff on IM. She’s like the Wizard of Oz up there. First she wanted to say she switched to organic soap as soon as Steve left. Also the David Lee Roth thing was on the DahlCast on Monday.
00:45	OK David Wexler from The Little Guys is on the phone. David just got back from CES in Las Vegas.
00:49	That’s why Steve likes golfing by himself although it’s hard to find a place that actually lets you do that. Usually they want you to wait for three more guys to show up.
00:52	Today Steve wanted to talk to David about three things people can use to listen to the podcast. There’s a cool advice from NAD, it’s a wireless USB adapter. You plug the dongle into your laptop and it will wireless transmit to a little box that you can plug into your stereo or whatever you listen to music on.
00:56	The Little Guys have a new digital audio room, the Smart Music Experience Center. There are little areas set up for customers to experience digital audio done correctly.
01:00	Tomorrow is the beginning of The Little Guys 17^th anniversary sale. They have the original prize wheel down there and if you go in and say you’re a listener you’ll get a spin and you could win something.
01:03	On the Aaron Rodgers/State Farm commercial the guy outside who says “discount double check” sounds and looks like David Wexler. He’s also in the Clay Matthews commercial. Cut your hair dude! He looks like a drag queen without any make-up on. That’s not really Packer hate though.
01:06	OK so The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face on Glee was really good last night. Plus it was Santana singing to Brittany.
01:08	Steve is going to have Tami Sagher on from How I Met Your Mother; he’s not going to season bash is he? Pete wouldn’t do that but could he if he wanted to? Pete has nothing bad to say about that show, it’s always been strong.
01:11	Steve will admit that there’s too much talk of Ashton Kutcher’s junk on Two and a Half Men now. Every episode references his member. Steve has written a letter to Chuck Lorre about all that.
01:14	This morning Steve woke up and put on CNN and Zoraida Zambolin was on. He woke up at 4:00 AM and CNN usually puts him back to sleep.
01:16	Steve saw something yesterday about how the captain had advertised on Facebook that he was going to take the ship close to shore so that some employee on the boat could wave to someone on shore.
01:19	On the phone right now is Tami Sagher. We were just talking about Pete who likes to season bash, saying one season of the show is better than the other. Steve was under the impression Pete still watched Glee but he doesn’t like it any more. As Steve explained to Pete he doesn’t have the ability to do that. He just wants to watch a TV show.
01:22	Tami will watch other shows but she didn’t watch Rob. So what’s her favorite show other than her own? Tami really doesn’t make lists like Pete does. Does this mean he’s going to stop internet stalking Tami? Steve just wants to kill time. Every half-hour of TV he watches is another half-hour closer to going to sleep. He prefers that what he’s watching is entertaining though.
01:25	As much as Steve hates that song if it’s on satellite he won’t change the station so he’s a very passive listener.
01:28	Maroon 5 is probably on a list of things Pete hates right? Pete also hates Adam Levine and Rob Thomas. Steve could listen to a Matchbox 20 song over and over again. Pete likes a lot of things though; he doesn’t want to be portrayed as a malcontent. Steve knows Pete hates him though; he must be on several lists at his place that he only shows to Mollie.
01:31	So these dogs went into a bush and found a bag and then a head rolled out. And that head was Steve Guttenberg. Pete hates Steve Guttenberg right? Except for when he was in that episode of Party Down.
01:35	Police allege the Pink Berry owner chased down and beat a transient with a tire iron.
01:39	The guy is no longer heavily involved with Pink Berry and is only a stockholder. Lee was allegedly getting off an expressway on ramp when he saw the man begging.
01:40	He lifted his shirt up to reveal a sexually explicit tattoo, which Lee took exception to. He demanded that the man get on his knees and apologize. The man did kneel but then Lee chased him down with a tire iron.
01:41	Lee then left the country on business.
01:47	Hasn’t this kind of yogurt been around forever basically?

00:00	Today is Tell-a-Friend Tuesday, January 17^th and this is DahlCast #596. The DahlCast is brought to you by Townstone Financial. 596 is a lot of podcasts. It’s good that we counted right? Because how many thousand radio shows did we do and we never counted? Did Steve say “show” funny, like Mancow? Did he say schowe?
00:03	Some people might not know that Adam Carolla has a Lamborghini hanging from the ceiling in his house. Meanwhile Steve has a Le Car hanging from his ceiling. Janet actually had one of those cars and they were extremely dangerous.
00:07	Janet is in the studio and she loves the Fox photo Steve is using. Steve wasn’t sure he should use the Fox one since the new program director fired him right away. Steve feels Rob Feder is at least going to give Phyllis Schwartz rough ride.
00:08	So does Janet recall the chronology of the minivan? They only had Pat Dahl at the time and Steve got rid of her Cressida, which she loved. Before the Cressida Janet also had a Le Car that he sold to Roman from Teenage Radiation. Then he crashed it into the back of a snowplow. That’s a really hard thing to do!
00:12	Steve was ahead of his time with that. Janet wanted to invent something for babies that vibrates a little bit and makes white noise, because Henry is having sleeping problem. Pat broke the news that they already have that on the Pack-n-Play.
00:16	Janet thinks that Steve needs to stop taking Ambien because one of the side effects is sleepwalking and sleep eating. Janet recommends Benadryl to help him fall asleep. Plus he won’t itch either! Unfortunately Steve absolutely can’t sleep without Ambien.
00:20	Steve went to lunch with a cop in Florida who is also a listener, John, so he’s on the right side of the law. He went to a place featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives called Whales Rib. The owner said Guy Fieri was kind of a tool.
00:24	Steve wants to know Janet’s plan for coming down to Florida. She’s not going to surprise him or anything if that’s what he wants to know. She’s not going to pop up as the receptionist at some massage parlor or something.
00:27	Janet doesn’t think Steve should talk, he’s Mr. California. Although Steve didn’t have as deep of roots in California as Janet did in Michigan.
00:30	OK we’ve got Tom Thayer on the phone right now. It’s a crappy-weather Tuesday and he’s thinking jealously of the great football weekend.
00:35	Millen’s first few drafts were pretty bad but he did get Calvin Johnson. They also ended up with Matt Stafford because they had such a high draft pick.
00:39	That 49ers game was really fun though. Tom expected the Saints to win that game by two touchdowns but San Francisco kept up.
00:42	It must have been a very different atmosphere around the Packers this week. It wasn’t the exciting atmosphere of playing in the playoffs.
00:45	John Elway said that Tebow would be the starting QB going into training camp next year though. That doesn’t really mean anything; someone has to take the first snap at camp.
00:47	Those were all fun games over the weekend, although Steve did not see the Houston/Baltimore game. It was a better game than Tom thought it would be. If Houston hadn’t turned the ball over so often they could have won the game. Tom isn’t a big fan of Joe Flacco either, he’s about as average as you can get on a good football team.
00:50	Steve thought he saw Brett Favre at one of the games this weekend. He for sure saw Jon Bon Jovi in Robert Kraft’s box at the Patriots game.
00:51	Hilgie wanted Tom to tell Steve that he’s following him on Twitter. Tom has no idea why Hilgie is on Twitter though, he has nothing to say!
00:55	Tom will email the photos to Steve so he can post them somewhere. Steve is Tom’s only connection to the multimedia world. He’s not going to get on social media himself but Steve can post the pictures.
00:58	Tom is looking forward to the games but he’ll be sad when football is over for the year.
01:01	Steve didn’t live around a lot of stuff in Detroit. He couldn’t afford anything close to the city so he got to Detroit and kept driving until he could afford something.
01:03	That first winter in Detroit Steve had to take his battery out of his car every night so it wouldn’t freeze. Then he’d go back down every morning and hook it up so he could actually start his car. Tom Thayer on the Celebrity Hotline is brought to you by Big Bowl.
01:04	Steve was thinking of getting a bike down in Florida because there are a lot of bike paths. He did say he would also get a helmet but now he might not actually get a bike. Gene Hackman was in an accident over the weekend while out biking in Florida.
01:07	Steve watched SNL over the weekend and he knows there’s a big controversy about that Lana Del Rey girl who was the musical guest. Her family owns Del Rey’s Chicken Basket right? Pete is familiar with her, although she only has two full-length songs that are available. Steve thought the first song was lackluster but he didn’t Tweet it because he didn’t want to incur Pete’s wrath.
01:10	Would Steve be able to see the Lana Del Rey video online? Pete actually has it on Petefork if he wants to go there. That’s quite a compendium Pete puts together there.
01:14	Steve has to say it doesn’t sound that bad when you hear it out of context. But when you’re in the middle of SNL crankin’ away it’s different. But again Steve didn’t want to Tweet anything and incur Pete’s wrath. Pete is still mad at him over mispronouncing Bon Iver.
01:17	What else did we learn on Petefork? Steve had something else to look at on there but he can’t remember. Also Pete puts one out every half hour so it’s really hard to keep track. Steve was locked into the one from early Monday but then there was an addendum later in the day.
01:20	Steve likes Ricky Gervais but he seems a little full of himself currently. He also should have left it at last year and not hosted this year. Because how do you top last year? He didn’t top it. Then he went on some ego trip on the red carpet. He used to be kind of humble and self-effacing but he seems to have lost that.
01:24	On Saturday Steve went to the condo board meeting where they elected the officers. Steve was going to run for condo board but it’s just as well that he didn’t. He’s not really a meeting guy. He’ll have meetings with the staff but he doesn’t like official meetings where they take minutes and you have to second stuff.
01:27	The main guy he didn’t like with the sausage legs and the support hoes, he would have not voted for him 10 times if he could have. Then this guy grab Steve’s ballot, takes it out of the envelope and starts looking at it!
01:30	Steve was explaining the master unit to everyone and it seemed like they didn’t get it. Steve also wants to get DirecTV because they have Comcast and the NFL Sunday Ticket.
01:33	Also in the minutes was a reminder about the poolside margarita party later that day. Someone was supposed to bring kielbasa to the party and there was also going to be a shrimp ring.
01:34	Steve did not going to the margarita party although he saw they needed blenders. That seems like the first thing you take care of before officially declaring a margarita party. Steve looked down there and it didn’t have him written all over it. Plus he doesn’t drink so he went and ran instead.
01:37	Steve’s not sure he wants to get involved in kicking that guy off the board though. Although he’s the same guy who got rid of the shuffleboard court because he didn’t want kids in front of his unit.
01:38	In other news Steve went to the driver’s license facility to get the replacement sticker for his license plate. Turns out it’s called a driver’s license facility because they only deal with driver’s licenses.
01:41	Steve went back on Saturday morning thinking he’d been the first person in line but he wasn’t. There were just more people sitting down instead of standing in line. So Steve doesn’t know what to do about his car. Maybe he’ll just drive the car into the ocean?
01:46	Don’t forget we’d like you to send us videos showing how you listen to the DahlCast. Steve would also like to remind people to turn their phone sideways so it’s the right aspect ratio. Make sure the video is in the landscape position.
01:47	Also we had a thing last week where if you shared the Daily Dose of Dahl on Facebook you were entered in a random drawing to win a $50 Big Bowl gift certificate. The winner of that was Brian Sullivan. Thanks Brian! He’s a subscriber although you didn’t have to be one.
01:50	It’s also Tell-a-Friend Tuesday and Steve would once again like to say that if you are a subscriber, it would be great if you could get one person to sign up. Things are going great with the podcast but they would be even better if every subscriber could sign up one new subscriber.
01:52	Steph sent Steve a link to something about organizing a successful Tweet-up so he’ll read up on that. He needs to pick a good place although he doesn’t know how many people would be interested.
