2:02 Steve's not sure if 17W620 Butterfield is West Butterfield Road. It just might be the address of the Jiffy Lube.
2:03 Matt will be a the JIffy Lube from 4:00-6:00 in the overalls changing people's oil.
2:04 Brendan is feeling really good today, his energy level is very high. Brendan is looking somewhat presentable because he was doing some apartment hunting. Does he know they can't discriminate against him based on how he's dressed?
2:06 Song: Mad Season, Matchbox Twenty
2:11 Buzz likes Matchbox Twenty and so does Steve so it works for everyone.
2:12 Buzz just used the cough button, Steve is so proud of him when he does that. Although then he coughed again on the air. That's still progress though.
2:13 Matchbox Twenty is from The U so Buzz likes them even more. Buzz played football at The U until he was arrested and put in jail. The good ones at The U go to jail, the really good ones go to the NFL and then go to jail.
2:14 Just to clear up the Jiffy Lube address thing, Steve doesn't understand how an address could be 17620 West Butterfield but apparently that's what the W stands for.
2:15 If Steve was putting 17W620 into his GPS and it asked him East or West he'd probably put West.
2:16 Steve is getting a lot of information now about this address but we can probably stop now. Steve won't be going out there and he's not being paid for it. Matt and Brendan haven't even kicked back any money to Steve yet.
2:17 Matt and Brendan have both thanked Steve but he's going to need something more tangible that he can either resell or eat.
2:18 Caller Eric has some info about the address. 17W620 is 17 miles west of State Street in Chicago. Every mile in between that distance has separate addresses which is what the 620 is. Eric works for a messenger service.
2:19 In Steve's wildest dreams he would have never figured that out. Eric has wandered right into Steve's wheelhouse.
2:20 What does being a messenger pay? Normally he gets half of the delivery fee, which isn't bad. That's like a prostitute, or maybe a hairdresser.
2:27 Steve has a song to play for that messenger fella and everyone else out there. Steve's a DJ so he's always tying things together, that's what he does.
2:28 Song: All the Roadrunning, Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris
2:33 Steve would like to add that that song also ties in with the upcoming St. Patrick's day holiday. That's what a DJ does.
2:39 That was a Gilmore Girls drop. So many times they sum up what Steve says. Now he understands what Pete said about the show being filled with pop culture references.
2:40 For some reason Steve was watching a Gilmore Girls episode over the weekend and every other sentence is a pop culture reference.
2:41 Steve doesn't hate the Gilmore Girls so he doesn't mind the drops. After every episode on the CW they have a group of 4 teenage girls talking about it which is very disconcerting for Pete. That sort of why Steve doesn't want to watch the show.
2:42 Steve was going to do a mailbag but then during the break Buzz told him about an interesting end to the eBay thing yesterday. Last night Buzz was experimenting with Auction Sniper and accidentally ended up buying another amp.
2:43 The other auction for the amp Buzz really wants ends tomorrow during the show. Matt Dahl has the same amp Buzz is looking for but right now it's in Steve's possession. Steve has a lean on all of Matt's stuff until him and Brendan kick back some money.
2:44 Last night around midnight Buzz called Ed to ask him about Auction Sniper and he set it all up for the auction that ends tomorrow.
2:45 Buzz decided to search eBay for a few other amps and found a great Fender tube amp that was at $405 which is a steal. Buzz doesn't really need the amp but if he won the auction it wouldn't be the worst thing.
2:46 So Buzz went to Auction Sniper and put in $500 and since the auction was ending soon it was the perfect time to try it out.
2:47 Buzz sat in front of his computer counting down until the end of the auction. When it was all over Buzz had won the auction, swooping in at the last moment and robbing the amp from some starving musician.
2:48 Buzz only has 7 or 8 amps which isn't too bad. Steve was imagining 200 or so. He has all the classics and musicians who see them are always impressed.
2:49 Over the years Buzz has purchased amps from musicians who needed the money. So in a way he has been robbing starving musicians, just not on the computer.
2:50 It was very exciting for Buzz to watch the Auction Sniper in action and $425 was a steal. Now he gets to anticipate the arrival of the amp. There is a chance it won't work though.
2:51 Steve feels he was a little hard on the eBay callers and Brendan. He got off on a bad start with that first guy who said you need to wait until the last second to bid. What he probably meant was that you shouldn't bid at all until the last second.
2:52 The best part is the amp Buzz won last night is just a preliminary to the main event.
2:53 Does all this auction stuff cut into Buzz's news gathering because it seems like he's penciling in about 90 minutes per day to search eBay for amps.
2:54 It seems counterproductive since Buzz can't make a living just playing the harmonica. Then Steve will be buying all of Buzz's amps off him for next to nothing.
3:00 Steve is hoping that there aren't people listening who are mean enough to mess up the auction for Buzz but he knows there are. Right now he'll read a few emails from those sort of people.
3:01 Yesterday Steve started sending a Steve Dahl Thought of the Day to his mailing list. There are a few thousand people on there but you can opt out of the email by click on a link.
3:02 Buzz probably opted out as soon as he got the email because it gets in the way of his eBay emails.
3:03 Steve got a few emails from people who were irritated and didn't know what they were getting, even though they could have easily opted out of it.
3:04 The first emailer is disgruntled because Steve is sending spam to people he banned from the forum. So obviously this guy was a forum poster.
3:05 Apparently Steve lost this guy to Sirius. He was probably banned from the forum for posting too much about satellite radio.
3:06 The guy is accusing Steve of illegal spamming but he's not doing anything illegal. There's a disclaimer on every email and you can opt out of it. So Steve sent the guy an email showing him out to get off the mailing list.
3:07 Steve can't in good conscience pay for a website where people are promoting satellite radio.
3:08 Today's thought was about Ben Gay and Steve got another email saying he has to get rid of Ben. Ben's not a real person though. He did also say "right on Buzz" so at least he's a fan.
3:09 Steve knew there were a lot of disgruntled people on the mailing list so this is a good way to weed them out. It's really simple to get off the mailing list and then these people can go listen to satellite radio or the ticking of their biological clocks.
3:10 The Thought of the Day wasn't a way for Steve to solicit listener suggestions although that didn't stop some people from making them. One guy wrote Steve to tell him that he's been listening to WCKG for years and this is the worst it's ever been.
3:11 That's sort of like how Steve's grandmother used to only watch one TV station no matter what was on it. You can change the channel if you don't like something.
3:12 Then the guy goes on to list the problems as he sees them, even though you don't see radio you listen to it. First of all, WCKG's line-up sucks. Steve's going to get right on that one. That seems like enough but there's more.
3:13 The emailer goes on to say that there isn't a single female presence on the station. Steve begs to differ. What about Pete?
3:14 This person also says he can't stand hearing Steve talk about current events after they've already been talked about on previous shows. Who listens to the radio for 12 hours a day anyway?
3:15 Steve doesn't care who else people listen to. He's only told people to listen to him. And it's not his fault if Stan and Terry talk about the crash on Lower Wacker and then Steve does. Plus he feels he'll put a different spin on it than they did.
3:16 Plus we have to talk about the news. You can get a line-up full of women but the news is the news. Maybe Steve and Buzz should start talking about medieval times or the future.
3:17 Steve's not sure if this is a guy or a girl . He's assuming it's a girl because of the complaint about a lack of female input. He or she does say that there's a show on NPR that's better than anything on WCKG. Buzz doesn't think that's possible.
3:21 Steve might reopen the mailbag because he has a lot of emails to get through. He got through all the hate letters so now he can move on to something else.
3:22 That show that on NPR from 2:00-3:00 and is apparently better than the entire WCKG line-up is called The Story and Steve has an archived episode.
3:23 This episode concerns David Carroll, who was 8 years old when his family moved from a railroad town to rural Connecticut. If you say "railroad town" it sounds much more home spun.
3:24 One day a young Carroll wandered into a swamp and saw a turtle. Why doesn't Buzz tell more turtle stories?
3:25 Whenever you talk with the NPR/Garrison Keilor voice you sound a lot smarter.
3:26 Also on today's The Story, since the turtle guy can only give you a half-hour, is Deacon Man Jerry Turner.
3:27 Jerry cleans up messes that would make other people run in the opposite direction, like meth labs. See it's a juxtaposition to the turtle guy. One is about life, one is about death.
3:28 It's taking a long time to download this show but Steve can see why someone would think that one hour is better than a day's worth of programming at WCKG. You can't compete with the turtle guy and a meth lab.
3:29 One thing about the Thought of the Day mailing list is that if you send Steve another email you get back on it. So you're better off unsubscribing and keeping your yapper shut.
3:30 The show has finished downloading. Steve finds it riveting but not for the right reasons.
3:31 Who wakes up in the morning and thinks about this stuff? We at least have to keep listening to hear the turtle guy talk.
3:33 Buzz might recall that as a kid Steve was arrested for trying to have sex with a tadpole. He was successful and that's Steve's private shame.
3:34 Steve and Buzz can't compete with this show and they'll never get that emailer back.
3:35 Buzz keeps listening to this wondering what listener Randy is thinking. Then again, who writes letters like the one that Steve got?
3:36 Steve has scrolled through 20 minutes of this thing and nothing interesting has happened.
3:44 Buzz was just in the office and saw Jim wearing the Cabesa Cam. Steve thought it was kind of distracting to have someone up near the studio wearing the camera.
3:45 Still, Ed has found a way to still be up near the studio for about an hour an a half. It's not the camera that's distracting it's the big puffy guy.
3:46 Ed's hair is looking great today, he's got some highlights in it or something. Steve's just kidding about Ed, he's not distracting.
3:47 Jim is all hooked up down in the office and he's streaming. Steve won't look at it though because it'll tie up the network.
3:48 Steve has been getting emails from people accusing him of spamming them but he's not spamming.
3:49 According to Ed Steve is not spamming people. There are ways for them to be easily removed from the email list.
3:50 People like to throw the spamming thing around like you're breaking the law but who's going to bust Steve anyway?
3:51 On the phone is Luke Stuckmeyer from Comcast Sportsnet. Steve's not too familiar with Luke but he recognizes the name.
3:52 Luke anchors several different Comcast reports but he may sit out tonight if he doesn't get a raise.
3:53 The Bears haven't done anything to break Steve's heart today but Luke has no doubt that Lance Briggs will be somewhere demanding more money
3:54 It seems like Briggs is making a big mistake but his agent Drew Rosenhaus is leading the charge. He's a typical slimeball agent.
3:55 Steve took it as a bad sign that Briggs said he'd take out a loan to pay for his house. What bank is going to loan him money knowing he's some sort of nutcase.
3:56 Luke grew up in Arlington Heights and worked at the White Hen where they listened to WCKG. That was back when the station was good though. Luke's favorite food is steak and Eggos. Eggs are good but Eggos are better.
3:57 By the time Steve's promo airs on Comcast it'll be very watered down by his own son.
3:58 Last night Mike called Steve and told him his hair looked terrible. What's he going to do about it now? They can't fix that in post.
3:59 Steve would rather have messed up hair and be able to make fun of Mark Prior for blowing out his arm signing figurines. It's funny just to say figurines.
4:05 Lance Briggs Inc. might need a new CEO because their current CEO is ruining the company.
4:06 Before we do the headlines Steve needs to make a phone call but he can't tell Buzz who he's calling.
4:07 Jim answers the phone in Buzz's office. Steve was just making sure he's still answering the phone. Maybe he should say something like "Buzz Kilman's Office" Jim is wearing the Cabesa Cam and right now he's looking at Buzz's phone because it's on the other side of the room.
4:08 Now Jim is looking at the mirror in the office. It's a very unflattering mirror. You look at that thing and you instantly feel bad about yourself. That's what happened to Steve yesterday.
4:09 Jim should pull his pants down and look at himself in the mirror. He doesn't really have to but he would if Steve wanted him to. Then Buzz would walk in like he's Chris Hanson on To Catch a Predator.
4:10 Live read: Arby's
4:17 It's funny that the one time Buzz asks Steve who he was calling on the one time when he couldn't tell him. If Steve told Buzz who he was calling then Jim would hear him.
4:18 Before the headlines, Steve's going to talk to to Matt Dahl who's at that the Jiffy Lube at Oak Brook Terrace.
4:19 Buzz probably read this in Steve's blog today because that's the first thing he does in the morning before bidding on amps-but Steve's uncle owned a bunch of Jiffy Lubes in Minnesota when the franchise first started.
4:20 So one of Steve's uncles made a fortune with JIffy Lube franchises and another made a fortune by inventing the plastic cake dome. Steve's dad should just claim he invented Steve.
4:21 Steve also said in his blog that he wishes his uncle would have cut him in on the Jiffy Lube franchises but at the time he probably didn't have any money to invest.
4:22 Even if Steve had money to invest he wouldn't have thought that an idea like Jiffy Lube would ever take off. But it doesn't get any better than driving in, having a guy under your car changing the oil and then driving out.
4:23 Headlines with Buzz
4:24 When Steve came in today the Dow was down something like 375 points. It ended 40 points up which is good.
4:25 The bodies of Uday and Qusay Hussein have been exhumed and buried next to Saddam outside of Tikrit. That's going to turn into the new Graceland, Disgraceland.
4:26 Boxer Johnny Tapia is in the hospital after a cocaine overdose. Steve thought he saw something where Tapia was also involved in an accident though.
4:27 Johnny Tapia's brother-in-law was killed in a car crash on Tuesday. That's probably enough to send him back to the drugs.
4:28 The Wrigleyville apartment fire that killed four people was started with a dollar bill. Steve saw some reporter mention how someone out there gave that homeless woman the dollar bill. Ya think?
4:29 It was good to see that the victim's families could work through their grief and sue the building's owner because it was too easy to get in there.
4:30 Three are dead following a crash this morning on Lower Wacker. Steve always sees a ton of Fast and the Furious cars down there racing around so he's not surprised.
4:31 Steve doesn't want to go all Spike O'Dell on everyone but he does see people going really fast down there. The only difference is that when Steve sees it he speeds up and shuts them down.
4:33 A Muslim cashier at Target are refusing to handle pork. Target is known for their pork of course.
4:41 Guess what time it is Buzz? Steve's just going to tell him since Buzz will never guess. It's Bob and Ron time.
4:42 Bob and Ron are miffed that they're not on at 4:20. Steve would rather not start off a segment with something he has to spend 5 minutes explaining. Not everyone is a pothead like Bob and Ron.
4:43 4:20 was supposedly the time when a bunch of pothead high schoolers met to smoke pot.
4:44 It doesn't seem like a segment that is supposed to make Steve's life easier makes it harder. Can't they just say hello? They both talk at the same time which is great for the listeners.
4:45 Steve actually wanted to get Bob and Ron on at 4:20 today. Get it?
4:46 Today is the birthday of Jim Ponds from The Turtles. Steve's not going to even try to explain any of that.
4:47 It's also Phil Lesh's birthday this week. Buzz has a Phil Lesh story and Bob and Ron would love to hear it. Steve's pretty sure Buzz was asking him. Are Bob and Ron extra high today?
4:48 When Buzz was managing a club in Torrance, California the Grateful Dead did a show. Afterwards Phil Lesh went backstage to discover that someone had made off with his favorite leather jacket.
4:49 Phil was really mad and was running around ranting and raving about it and then as a final desperate effort he started hurling himself against a metal door at the loading docks.
4:50 Steve once had a guy steal his Levi jacket from a softball game in Detroit. Steve ran after the guy because he was in no mood to have his jacket stolen. He had just moved from California and things weren't going too well.
4:51 The guy eventually got to a fence and Steve isn't much of a fence climber so he got away. Plus since he was on the other side of a fence he could taunt Steve.
4:52 There was another time when Steve was emceeing a Foghat show after Disco Demolition. Someone had brought out a Donna Summer mannequin and Steve decided to smash it up.
4:53 Steve didn't know it was made of glass and he kneeled down right into it, cutting up his knees. He kept singing Do You Think I'm Disco because there was nothing he could do.
4:54 Then Steve went backstage to have a nurse look at his knees and he took of his Disco Demolition jacket. He wasn't really paying attention and someone took it. So Steve understand Mr. Lesh's anger.
4:55 Song: Box of Rain, Grateful Dead
5:01 Steve didn't realize that today was Pi Day, 3/14. Steve could have had Bob and Ron on at 3:14 today. Maybe next year.
5:08 Steve could really go for a pick-me-up right about now. Drew Hayes just told him that he had a double fish filet sandwich, 2 double cheeseburgers and a donut today. That's not a good diet.
5:09 Originally Dunkin' Donuts was only going to do it for two months but it seems like it's been longer. The sales department wouldn't necessarily tell Steve Dunkin' re-upped because they're always trying to screw him.
5:10 Steve has some bad Tonya Harding news for Buzz. She's Buzz's girl so he's not going to be happy.
5:11 Police responded to a call from Tonya at Yacolt Towing. She was claiming that 4 men and a women were trying to break into her car and steal it. She also said people were stashing rifles on her property.
5:12 When police arrived they were unable to find evidence and she became frustrated that people couldn't see what she was seeing. She also told police she was on new medication.
5:13 Later that same morning, police received a call from a friend of Harding's who said she was seeing animals.
5:14 Tonya's not in jail though so everything seems fine to Buzz. It's still tragic to hear though. This is how Steve likes his Tonya Harding though.
5:15 Steve doesn't really know about Tonya's skating triumphs but she had some dudes take down Nancy Kerrigan and that was fantastic. Then she couldn't even win a medal in the Olympics.
5:22 Ben Gay is here and he was just waiting in the Green Room with Bob and Ron. Those two are filthy and stupid and filthy. Did he mention filthy?
5:23 They're nice enough boys but enough with the 4:20 stuff. How about bringing some actual pot or maybe some X. What time do you take X at? Ben usually does it about a half hour before he leaves the house, what ever time that is.
5:24 Ben needs to take a break in the sports to talk to Steve's son Matt. This should be interesting. He's such a handsome man. How old is he? He's of age isn't he?
5:25 Matt is at Jiffy Lube. Ben loves taking his little Spitfire there. He usually keeps it garaged in the winter though.
5:26 Does Matt like Italian food because maybe he and Ben could meet at the Italian Village. It's three restaurants in one. They could start at the casual restaurant and end the night at the romantic one.
5:27 Is Matt all smudgy from changing oil because Ben loves that look? It's like Billy Joel in the Uptown Girl video.
5:28 Well that was a little nerve-racking, but then again what is life but a series of nerve-racking events that you charge money for people to see.
5:29 The Bulls are in Philadelphia to take on the Sixers tonight. Ben has your brotherly love right here.
5:30 Cubs pitcher Mark Prior will start in a Little League game on Friday and all the Cubs fans are really excited about that. He should do well even though the strike zone is much smaller for 12-year olds. Even they can't hit 68 mph pitches.
5:33 Today Pete Rose admitted that he bet on the Reds while he was managing them. That didn't take too long did it?
5:34 Lakers coach Phi Jackson has complained that the NBA is unfairly scrutinizing Kobe Bryant's physical play. Let's get physical!
5:46 That's the full Rick Sutcliffe right there. There's a little more with him talking about his daughter though. He only got suspended one game so it wasn't a big deal.
5:47 Buzz blames the broadcasters who let him on the air. They had the have talked to him before they went on the air and knew he wasn't up to it.

5:50 Steve still has a mailbag to do plus news with Buzz.
5:51 Steve just found out that the show ends at 6:00 tonight so he'll stop explaining what else he has planned.
