2:02 The Tribune is making Terry start a blog in a few weeks so he'd like to know how Steve likes it. Terry just can't see doing it everyday, Steve thinks what he starts doing it, its not so hard. Terry just sees it as more work without extra money, but he is saving his career.
2:03 Steve would like to see Terry start to think more proactively. Its not hard and since Steve has been blogging, he's had an easier time writing his column.
2:04 When Steve started writing his column his editor told him he should quote other people so he could find his own voice. He found his own voice without having to quote other people though.
2:05 Steve already found his voice on the radio so he just needed to transfer that to print form.
2:06 Terry just doesn't want to do the extra work of a blog. He's not getting paid extra for it although he it will make him more valuable to the Tribune.
2:07 Eric Zorn has been able to work his blog into his column so hopefully Terry will be able to do that.
2:08 The good thing about a blog is that you can link stuff you talk about in there to a website instead of having to explain it in print. Steve doesn't have to explain what Google Earth is, he can just send people to their website.
2:09 It's been Steve's experience with new things like blogging that you should jump on right away and try to figure out how to make money later.
2:10 Terry needs to think long-term even though that's against his policy. He'll probably need a modern computer too since his laptop is pretty old.
2:11 Terry will probably get a new laptop from the Tribune. Steve wants one too although he's not an employee. If he was an employee he'd probably have to right more than once every 3 weeks.
2:12 Steve's good with only writing once every 3 weeks. Terry does his Nightlife column every 2 weeks.
2:13 The door is always open for Steve and Terry to do companion columns. They always give Steve suggestions for columns and he takes those as challenges.
2:14 They might be asking Steve and Terry to do columns for the second Crosstown series at The Cell.
2:15 A lot of Steve's blogging is informational stuff for the show. Terry's blog will probably just be full of links to Steve's blog.
2:16 Eric Zorn does a really good job on his blog. It's very subtle, you think you're reading his column but it's really his blog.
2:17 It was quite a site on Friday to see Stan and Drew kicking back with some cigars. They were actually meeting with the J-A-B people. They prefer to be called Jab but Stan insists on saying J-A-B. That might be why they're not advertising on their show.
2:18 That guy from Jab is huge. If Drew stood on Stan's shoulder's they'd be as tall as that guy.
2:27 Song: The Signifying Blues, Bo Diddley
2:32 Bo Diddley suffered a stroke last week and some dire predictions say he'll never play again. You know what the paramedics said to him? "Hey! Bo Diddley! Hey! Bo Diddley!" Steve's reprising that from Friday, it's still a classic.
2:33 It's nice to be back in the studio but it was a good time on Friday. Buzz always finds the remotes troubling but Friday was different. It's always the hardest at the beginning but then everything turns out fine.
2:34 The highlight for Buzz was Ed Farmer's story about hitting the guy in batting practice. He filed that one away mightily so he'd be able to retell and it did, twice over the weekend.
2:35 That story really shows the difference between old school baseball players like Ed and the guys who play today.
2:36 Ed doesn't seem insane when you first meet him but if you spend any time with him you realize he is. It's a good, hardcore insane though, the kind of guy you want on your team.
2:37 The wings were really good at Yak-Zies but Steve only had a few. He also had a good burger up there. Buzz had a burger at Cubby Bear on Saturday but Steve has the quesadillas.
2:38 People really liked Buzz's performance on Saturday. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat was a good choice. Steve had the most fun playing that song because he got to be the back-up guy. He could have done that all night.
2:39 Buzz initially added that song to the Blues Rocket Scientists' repertoire because he wanted to sing the crazy lyrics but the music is also good.
2:40 Steve still owes Buzz his standard $20 fee for jamming on that song. Buzz left Cubby Bear North right after his song to go to another gig.
2:41 Buzz had his manservant Chris Wood with him. As it turns out he's a longtime Steve Dahl listener. He told Steve the best tip he ever learned from him was to use a bucket of ice water to chill something really quickly.
2:42 Buzz had quite a drink table set up for him outside. He wasn't the one who brought the bottle of Jack Daniels though, that belonged to The Nadas. Steve will have to speak to those boys because the Jack was a little too tempting. The only thing more tempting would have been a line of blow leading up to the bottle.
2:43 Mike from The Nadas brought the Jack Daniels. He and the rest of the band were so happy to be getting free food that he left the bottle out for everyone to enjoy.
2:44 Steve had to go inside and have about 100 cups of coffee after seeing the bottle, it was like having his own personal AA meeting.
2:45 When you're on stage sober you feel like every other person who would come up on stage. You wonder why you're up there. If you're drinking or high you think you're supposed to be up there. It's taken Steve a while to get to the point where he can be on stage and sober.
2:46 Steve had fun on Saturday and he was sober. Buzz had never seen Steve on stage and sober before Saturday.
2:47 The last big show Steve did was the day he stopped drinking, June 24th, 1995 at the Skyline Stage at Navy Pier. He also did a few small shows like the 20 Years in the Can concert and some festivals.
2:48 The 20 Years in the Can was a lot of video so it was pretty easy but the festivals had a lot of people not paying attention.
2:49 There were a few people on Saturday who weren't paying attention but that's to be expected at a bar. At a festival there are a lot more people who aren't pay attention and they're walking by the stage holding a corn dog.
2:50 Steve had a very crazy moment with Lisa Dominique who used to be a traffic reporter. She emails Steve from time-to-time and wanted tickets to the show so he got her some. Then right in the middle of the concert she walked up near the stage and started screaming things at him.
2:51 After the show she was at the side of the stage and as Steve was heading to the dressing room she stopped him, grabbed his sleeve and wouldn't let go. He almost dragged her into the dressing room.
2:52 The same thing happened to Buzz when he got off-stage. At first he didn't even know who she was but that name is very unique so he figured it out. Steve doesn't even remember if she did traffic with him or Buzz and Johnny.
2:53 Steve's all for saying hi to people but there were a ton of people there who also wanted to say hi. The show was over, he just wanted to get into the dressing room and leave.
2:54 Steve needs to block Ron Lewis from IMing, he's driving him nuts. Ron kept sending Steve directions to the Cubby Bear as well as restaurant suggestions. It's nice that he did that and all but Steve has a GPS.
2:55 Ron also sent him restaurant suggestions for the area. Steve wasn't going to have a giant steak at Wildfire before his concert. After rehearsals he went to his hotel and rented the most boring movie he could find and got in a one hour power nap.
2:56 Ron was IMing Steve to inform him that his last Dahlfins performance was on June 9th, 2001 at Walter Payton's Roundhouse. Steve remembers saying after that show that he didn't want to perform live any more. The Pet Lovers were backing him up but they were more interested in becoming a real band than being The Dahlfins.
2:57 Dan Falato showed up that night and Steve hadn't seen him in a while either. Steve played Crucifixion Steaks and there's a reference to Dan in there. He was really offended that Steve played that but it wasn't intentional.
3:03 Thanks to Jef Schmidt and Budweiser for sponsoring the show on Saturday. Jef has always been a big supporter of the show and it seemed like he was having a good time.
3:04 Caller Rob was at the show on Saturday night and he had a great time. He forgot how good those songs were until he heard them live. It's almost like Steve paid this guy to call but he didn't.
3:05 Rob really loved The Gary Dotson Song. Steve can't play that one on the air any more thanks to Janet Jackson.
3:06 Rob also enjoyed The Nadas. He was going to buy one of their CDs but forgot to stop by the table. They were selling their CDs plus copies of the show. They have some CD burner that does six at a time.
3:07 Just for the record, Lisa Dominique called and said that she only had one beer on Saturday and that her hand got caught on Steve's shirt.
3:08 Steve's good with that, he doesn't want to get into the whole thing on the air. It was a Tommy Bahama shirt though and he didn't want it ripped. Those are expensive shirts and Steve likes them.
3:09 Steve used to not like Tommy Bahama shirts because he thought they were fake relaxation shirts. He only wears the ones that don't say Tommy Bahama on them but they're really comfortable and well-made.
3:10 Caller Laura had a good time on Saturday and this is coming from a mom who doesn't get out much. It was an interesting audience though, there seemed to be a lot of husbands who were afraid of their wives.
3:11 The women love Steve, what can he say? When the show first started it was a total sausage fest at the front of the stage. Steve might have fallen in love with that one big guy who knew all the words to his songs.
3:12 Laura won tickets on Garry's show, answering a trivia question about a limo driver who got them lost on the way to Alpine Valley. The guy sounded like Elmer Fudd.
3:20 Steve will take one more call about how great he is but there's no one else on hold. He does like doing things in threes so he'll play one of the songs from Saturday and then come back and take the call, hopefully from a girl.
3:21 Song: Listen Through the Static, Steve Dahl & the Dahlfins
3:25 Caller Alan thought Saturday was a great show. Alan is from Antioch just like the first caller. Steve's big in Antioch.
3:26 Budweiser made it so all the tickets were free which was nice. After that first show went well Steve could probably get away with charging $40 per ticket now.
3:27 Alan enjoyed The Nadas as well they seem really fun to play with and probably fun to rehearse with.
3:28 Even though Steve was hard on Des Moines he did have a good time rehearsing there. Your money goes a lot further in Des Moines, Steve might retire there.
3:29 In Chicago tacos are about a $1.75 but in Des Moines there only 49¢. And those are the good tacos! The bad ones cost 29¢.
3:30 The next show might be kind of far from Antioch, like in the South Suburbs. That's why we have 294! Buzz actually made the trip from the Cubby Bear to the Harlem Avenue lounge, it was a breeze.
3:31 You really need to get have I-Pass if you're traveling on 294, especially with the open-road tolling courtesy of Rod R. Blagojagojevich.
3:32 Live read: Gierczyk Properties
3:33 The other day some guy emailed Steve asking him where the Gierczyk condos were. He responded they were in New Buffalo but the guy wanted him to be more specific.
3:34 What more can Steve say other than the condos were in New Buffalo? He's not a real estate agent, did the guy want specific directions?
3:35 If you need more than that from Steve maybe you aren't ready to buy a summer home in New Buffalo. Frankly, Steve doesn't want people like that on his side of the lake, maybe he should try Wisconsin.
3:36 They've already got that missing woman's family up in Michigan, that's bad enough. The woman and her husband have a place in Michigan.
3:37 Over the weekend they found the woman's blood on some tarp in their house. If Steve's wife went missing, whether he had something to do with it or not, he'd get rid of all tarps in his house. Tarps aren't that expensive, you can buy more.
3:44 Steve will be talking to Chuck Garfein in a few minutes. Buzz cares about the Cubs/Sox series but not enough to watch the entire thing.
3:45 Steve didn't watch much on Saturday because he was rehearsing but he knows that something went bad at some point. He did watch all of Sunday's game though.
3:46 The Sox won yesterday which is the good news. AJ hit a grand slam which is sort of like punching the Cubs in the face. It's better really.
3:47 The Michael Barrett punch wasn't that great though, it was more of a wrestling punch. Steve saw it a ton of times last night. He can see how people hate AJ but you don't if he's on your team.
3:48 Chuck Garfein is on the phone. Steve used to hate AJ when he was on the Twins. He'd regularly book flights up to Minnesota so he could kill him.
3:49 Chuck didn't even like him AJ when he first came to the Sox but he brings it to the field everyday. How many other catchers want to be out there for every game of the season.
3:50 Chuck has heard stories about when AJ was catching for the Giants and telling batters which pitchers were going to be thrown. Steve doubts that story very much.
3:51 That Giants team had a lot of problems on it. AJ, Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds is a bad mix. Steve always hated the Giants because he grew up a Dodgers fan.
3:52 He also loved Sandy Koufax because he's Jewish and he's left-handed. Growing up as a left-hander the only mitt you could get was a Sandy Koufax mitt or a Wes Parker mitt, he was a first basemen.
3:53 If you were a lefty they only let you be a pitcher or a first basemen.
3:54 So the Cubs/Sox series is over and what did we learn? We learned that the Sox bullpen stinks. They got a warming from Ozzie and the whole team got a warning before the game on Sunday from Kenny Williams.
3:55 Kenny was testing the entire team because the Cubs/Sox series is as close to the playoffs as you get. If you can't perform in this series Kenny knows what he has.
3:56 David Aardsma started off well but he didn't have a good weekend. At one point he had more strikeouts than the starters.
3:57 That Boone Logan needs to go and Mike MacDougal can drive him off in a car. They'll be like Thelma and Louise.
3:58 For the Cubs Neal Cotts did not have a good game. He also started off well but did not have a good game yesterday.
3:59 The Cubs also said that Ryan Dempster might be a starter yesterday but by the end of the day he was back to being a closer.
4:00 Last week Sweet Lou said there would be changes in the Cubs bullpen. He got the media really interested in that subplot and then on Sunday Dempster came out and said he was going to be a starter. Some people in the media left and filed that story.
4:01 After that Dempster went into Lou's office and when he came out he announced he was going to remain the closer. Dempster's a team player though.
4:02 Did Lou forget he didn't have a closer to replace Dempster? The Cubs are probably still looking internally for a closer, either Bob Howry or maybe that Marmol kid.
4:03 Very few closers are going to sale through the season and not struggle briefly. Dempster's been doing pretty well this season. He had a horrible game last Thursday against he Mets but then bounced back on Friday.
4:04 If you're a person who covers the Cubs or the Sox you love all this stuff, especially on this weekend. Steve thinks the Cubs/Sox rivalry is the fiercest at least in terms of crosstown. It's bigger than Mets/Yankees.
4:05 Nothing really exciting happened in Bears mini-camp. The Lance Briggs story just won't go away and Chuck is getting sick of it. Lovie thought Lance would show up but he won't.
4:06 Hopefully Lance realizes that he's never going to get back his salary for this season. There's a small window of playing time for most NFL players. Even if he gets a big contract next year he won't get back that $7 1/2 million from this year.
4:07 This is all Drew Rosenhaus though. If he gets Lance a big contract than more college players will want to sign with him. He was at the forefront of the TO thing too. He looked ridiculous giving press conferences on his driveway but he got TO the big deal he wanted.
4:14 That's the first time Steve noticed the blues music for the rejoin. It's been rocking all afternoon though. Sometimes Pete forgets.
4:15 Did Pete take the limo home on Friday? Because Steve got a phone call from the limo driver right after 11:00 wondering where Pete was.
4:16 Steve just figured Pete ditched the limo driver because he felt guilty about it and was riding the EL at that moment. Steve had already paid for the limo but Pete did take it home.
4:17 Pete called Mary after the concert on Friday and she convinced him to take the limo. Steve's charging the station for it because it was part of the whole Yak-Zies thing.
4:18 Pete also took Jim kid and his black girlfriend home. That'll cost him extra though, Steve's going to need to be reimbursed.
4:19 Steve was at the Arcade Fire show on Friday night. They got their too early, the band didn't even go on until ten to 9:00. They just sat there watching people on stage with flashlights acting like they were doing something.
4:20 Buzz isn't familiar with Arcade Fire so he's wondering how a band that Pete likes ends up at the Chicago Theater. Pete's probably getting ready to drop them shortly.
4:21 They could have gone on much earlier because everything on the stage was set up. It didn't help that Steve had to stand even though he was in the fourth row.
4:22 Pete takes up a lot of room in his chair when they're sitting down though, he had both arms on the armrests.
4:23 Steve stayed for an hour and they were good but every song sounded the same. There were so many people on stage and they played so many different instruments and that doesn't really translate well on the loudspeakers.
4:24 Pete thought they started off sort of rusty but after the first few songs started rolling. Pete gave Steve earplugs and he put them in but couldn't hear anything. They weren't good earplugs, they were industrial ones that you wear if you work at the airport.
4:25 Pete only put one earplug in because they were very close to the speakers. How can he even judge how the band sounded then?
4:29 Steve doesn't want Pete, Jim kid and his black girlfriend to think he had a bad time on Friday. He doesn't like bands with that many people on stage, he gets caught up in the economics. How do they make any money if there's that many people?
4:30 They were there for three nights so that's 9,000+ people. That's a potential of about $135,000. The lead singer and the girl who played the accordion probably get the most of it though.
4:31 That accordion player was sweet on Steve, she kept looking over at him. She was probably wondering who the cougar was in the 4th row.
4:32 Steve did have a good time and they did dial it in after the first couple of songs. Jim DeRogatis loved it but if you ever saw that guy in person you wouldn't like anything he did, he's a troll and a failed drummer. Buzz thinks that you could say any drummer is a failure.
4:33 Live read: Cheeseburger in Paradise
4:38 Steve has two more questions for Pete. First is he the accountant for Arcade Fire? Generally speaking what ever the gross potential is for a concert, the band gets half of it.
4:39 It seems like the band has a lot of expenses though. All the people in the band probably don't get paid equally though. Hopefully the redhead and the kid with the long hair who kept freaking out don't get paid as much.
4:40 Out of the $135,000 for the weekend the expenses were probably half. The lead singer and his wife probably pocketed about $30,000 which isn't bad. Sill though from a quarter of a million to $30,000 is a big jump.
4:41 The worst offender is probably the Polyphonic Spree, they have way more than even Arcade Fire. There's no way they make any money.
4:42 Steve likes 5 or maybe 6 people max. Pete thinks there's something to be said for 2 guitars, a bass and a drum but he also likes bands with a lot of people on stage.
4:43 Pete hopes to go to another concert with Steve and next time he won't take up both arm rests. Steve doesn't get how he can only put one earplug in, doesn't that throw him off-kilter?
4:44 It would drive Steve nuts if things weren't balanced. He put both earplugs in at first but couldn't hear anything.
4:45 Steve couldn't believe he had to stand for the entire time. Next time we need to get one of those opera boxes.
4:46 Next time Steve is sitting next to Jim's girlfriend. She had to get up and get her own beer too and she was gone for a half hour. She's definitely stealable.
4:47 So Pete was in between Steve and Jim's girlfriend taking up both seats. And he was really spread out in his seat too.
4:48 The reason Steve likes to sit on the aisle is so he doesn't have to fight over the second armrest. And the other one is his as well.
4:49 Pete has giant shoulders too, his shoulder was in Steve's neck. Meanwhile there are guys on stage playing motorcycle helmets. That was Steve's favorite part of the show.
4:50 Next time Steve wants to be on the same side as the violin girls too. He was on the dude side. The whole concert was a sausage fest really.
4:51 The dudes in back of Steve were analyzing the whole show. Jim said he heard them talking and they recognized Steve. Maybe they were trying to show off.
4:52 It's a bad sign when the highlight of the night for Steve is seeing Jim DeRogatis twice though. Every time he walked by him he was saying weird things about music like "how would you like it if the music was being played by a...monkey?" He needs to get his acne under control as well.
4:57 Earlier Buzz was trying to think of a local band with a lot of people on stage, it was Poi Dog Pondering. It seems like every musician in the city is in that band, they have their own zip code.
4:58 Most of these people probably make enough money to get by which is fine for them. It's still called show business though and people are in business to make money.
4:59 Headlines with Buzz
5:00 The Republicans and Democrats are hammering out the details of an immigration bill that neither side seems to like. What about the immigrants?
5:01 The Bush administration has called Jimmy Carter's recent comments "sad". It's tradition for past president's to not speak negatively about sitting presidents.
5:02 According to Plainfield police the blood found on a tarp in the home of Craig Stebic belongs to his missing wife. He said it was deer blood, he's a deer hunter. They did a DNA test to prove it was her blood though.
5:03 If it is her blood why wouldn't he just throw out the tarp? Is it his lucky tarp? If he did do it then why wouldn't he get rid of it? Maybe they were using it to deer hunt and she cut herself while field dressing one of the animals.
5:04 A priceless Rembrandt sketch was stolen from a gallery on the Magnificent Mile. The couple who stole the the sketch were familiar to the employees of the gallery.
5:05 It's funny that Buzz said priceless, not to be confused with the worthless Rembrandt. Buzz would like to think that the idea for the theft was spur-of-the-moment.
5:06 Back to that missing woman. In situations like this a family should really go with the least emotional person to be their spokesperson. This guy they have now, her cousin, is like Jeff Schwartz. Jeff would be a great spokesperson because he'd drive the media away from the family.
5:07 Caller Dave wanted to point out that deer hunting season is in the fall, not the spring.
5:08 The police keep saying the husband is not a "person of interest" but he is to Steve.
5:16 There's a nice picture of Buzz at the Cubby Bear North jammin' it out with his shades and blues hat. It's a good look for him, it works. Buzz enjoys the look, it's quasi-incognito.
5:17 Buzz has worn that hat to bars and been called up on stage as a blues man. If you click on the photo on the homepage you can see a bigger version with Steve in the background, jamming on Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat.
5:18 Buzz thought those guys did a really great job and he's including Steve in there. Steve has rehearsed a lot and he ended up getting pretty good. There were a few times when he heard himself play the guitar and thought it sounded really good.
5:19 Live read: Balance for Life
5:27 Tyrone's checking in with some traffic, high in the sky, your eye in the sky. He's all of that.
5:28 Tyrone is over I-80 near LaGrange. All of the westbound lanes are shutdown because of a big accident.
5:29 As you can imagine all the eastbound drivers are stopping to take a look which is also backing things up.
5:30 Usually when they shut down all the lanes that means they have to chopper people out of there and Tyrone makes some extra money doing that. He doesn't have any life-saving equipment on his choptater though. What he does is if there's a family member with the injured person he charges them $100. If the person is alone he just goes through their wallet.
5:31 Tyrone has a caller on the line who's an eyewitness to the accident. Tyrone wants to know what she's wearing. That seems like a really inappropriate question to Steve.
5:32 Caller Jill is wearing work clothes. Is that like a pants suit? That's pretty hot. Jill can't hear Tyrone's questions over the choptater but if he turns it off he'll crash.
5:33 Jill can actually hear Tyrone over the choptater, she was just lying. Is it because Tyrone is black?
5:41 Live read: Townstone Financial
5:42 The guy in this live read owes $334,000 on his house and hasn't made a mortgage payment since January. Steve's going to guess that David was not able to get this guy a loan. If he does though Steve's going to be really impressed.
5:43 If you owe $334,000 on a house worth $486,000 do you get to keep the profit when the bank forecloses?
5:44 If Steve were a banker he'd keep the house and the profit. It's the bank's house, they loaned you the money and you didn't pay for it.
5:45 David Hochberg is on the phone. The bank keeps the profit which was David's point. The guy had all that money in the house, David could have done something for him if he'd come to him earlier.
5:46 Buzz is wondering what makes people think that they can miss a few mortgage payments like this guy did. Maybe he needs to be a guest on the Townstone Financial show.
5:47 Steve really likes to get yes or no answers from David otherwise he'll just keep going on. The newsman in Buzz had to ask that question though.
5:56 Live read: Chicagoland Speedway
5:57 Steve's trying to dial in his harmonizer for this live read to give it some nice echo effect.
5:58 Steve's having trouble finding the right echo setting on this thing. He was dialed in for a while but then he had to reset it.
6:02 Steve's going to play another song from Saturday night. He should probably play Buzz's song since it's Blue Monday.
6:03 Has Buzz approved that song? Because Steve doesn't want him complaining that he was mixed down or something.
6:04 Song: Margarita, Steve Dahl & the Dahlfins
6:07 And the crowd goes wild. There's another show coming up on June 9th somewhere on the far Southside.
6:08 Buzz was wondering if, in the wake of the first gig, Steve is looking forward to the second one.
6:09 Steve was looking forward to the first one but he's looking forward to the second more now. That was the most comfortable he's been on stage in a while.
6:10 So far everyone has been saying the show was good for the most part. A few people sent Steve emails to complain which isn't necessary. One guy was mad that he didn't get in because he said the doors opened before 7:00.
6:11 Another woman was complaining because she was smoking and someone was hassling her. Then she said the suburbs suck.
6:12 Steve also doesn't need people telling him he seemed a little nervous at first but got over it. He doesn't need people trying to gauge his emotions on stage. He wasn't nervous either.
6:13 Time for some sports. Mark Buehrle said today that he and AJ talked about comments the pitcher made in the wake of AJ's comments on the Mike North Show.
6:14 Steve gets that people hate AJ unless he's on your team but do you really want a player who doesn't want to play everyday?
6:15 Donovan McNabb trade rumors are heating up with the Bears being one of the teams interested.
6:16 The NBA draft lottery is tomorrow and the Bulls are guaranteed a top-12 pick. They have a 1.9% chance of getting the #1 pick.
6:17 Steve was hearing that last night but he doesn't understand the math. Brendan's not here to explain it either because he's down in his office resting up for his show.
6:18 You'd think Brendan and Matt would be listening down there and would call in. They just sit down there eating sandwiches anyway. What does Brendan need to rest up for?
6:19 Brendan is on the phone. This is the time where he calls him Steve because he's getting ready for his show.
6:20 The draft lottery is weighted so if you have the worst record you have the most lottery balls.
6:21 Matt and Brendan are working on nothing in their office. Whenever Steve walks back there Matt is sitting at a desk eating a sandwich and Brendan is behind him in a chair with his feet up on another chair pretending to read the paper. Who's idea was it to give Brendan an hour off?
6:26 Steve has some info about the NBA draft lottery but he doesn't really get it.
6:27 14 lottery balls are placed in a barrel for each team in the lottery. Four balls are chosen at random to determine the winner.
6:28 The lottery was further weighted beginning in 1995 to make sure the best non-playoff team had the worst chance of getting the #1 pick.
6:29 Steve doesn't really understand what he just read and he's sorry that he read it. We probably shouldn't be getting our sports from Wikipedia. Either way the Bulls have a 1.9% chance of getting the first pick.
6:30 News with Buzz
6:31 The comprehensive immigration bill has been endorsed by President Bush but a number of senators on both side have criticized it.
6:32 New Mexico governor Bill Richardson announced his intent to run for president in California today. He believes he will win the California primary.
6:33 Pat Dahl is on the phone and he says he can explain the NBA draft lottery. Every team gets a certain number of lottery balls. The team with the worst record gets 250 balls, the team with the second worst logo gets 175 and so on. Do the balls have the team logo on them because that would be a collector's item.
6:34 Pat says that the balls basically have the team logo on them. The lottery is only done for the first 3 picks, after that the order goes by worst record to best record for non-playoff teams.
6:35 The balls don't have the team logos on them. Each ball has a number on it and each team has a 4 number combination. They select 4 balls and that determines who gets the first pick.
6:36 So what Steve was reading in Wikipedia was right, apologies to them. Steve still doesn't think he should be getting sports from Wikipedia. It seems like the place where you go for spells and potions.
6:37 All that stuff about the team logo the ball was just Pat dumbing it down for Steve. Steve didn't go to Northwestern but he's pretty sure he can follow this.
6:43 Steve's not sure how much news Buzz has left but he still has his song to play from Saturday. It's over 4 minutes long so any UFO story he does is at his own peril.
6:46 That Rembrandt sketch is only worth $60,000. That's nothing. That's probably why they keep pointing out it's only a sketch.
6:50 Live read: Balance for Life
6:57 Buzz wll have to wait until tomorrow to play Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat. Just another reason for him to get up in the morning.
6:58 Steve plays Buzz a clip of the song. Buzz hopes his band is listening. It sounds good though.
6:59 It makes Buzz uncomfortable to hear himself. Steve knows the feeling but that's what the people love and you have to give it to them.
7:00 Matt and Brendan had a great time at the show. It was nice of them to come out. Matt hasn't seen Steve perform live for about 10 years. Brendan's probably never seen him.
7:01 Matt's friend with the rastafarian hair took some pictures from the show but Steve hasn't had a chance to look at them. That kid finally ditched his rastafarian hat but he still has the hair. Steve would love to cut it.
7:02 Matt and Brendan don't do anything in their office before the show. It's very cold in their too because there's no heating duct. Steve will be taking it over for storage space but maybe they could work in the lobby. There's plenty of seating and it's warmer.
