1:59 You know what Steve likes about Stan? You can never tell when he's reading something. Reading's for losers anyway.
2:00 Steve doesn't care about a lawsuit involving Kanye West and Evel Knieval. Garry doesn't seem to care either. They don't want to be part of Stan and Terry's last bit.
2:01 Every time Steve comes in for cross talk Stan is in the middle of reading something ponderous.
2:02 As far as Garry knows Steve never ran through fire hydrants as a kid for fun. Steve grew up in Southern California and everyone had pools out there.
2:03 Steve actually went to school with a kid who's dad invented the Slip 'n Slide. He was also at a pool party where Crosby, Stills and Nash were jamming on the deck. It was before their first album had come out.
2:04 Garry has been to Steve's parents house in Southern California. He actually had to sleep in their rental car after Steve's brother threatened to kill him.
2:05 Garry was making fun of the family dog Sassy, who had died when they were kids. Steve's brother got mad and said he was going to go into the living room and grab a shotgun.
2:06 Stan remembers hearing that Steve's brother went to rehab and he was also a chef at one time. Does Stan have a list of all the things Steve doesn't want to talk about?
2:07 Steve's brother was kicked out of culinary school for cheating on a test. Now he's living with Steve's parents and cooking at the rehab center.
2:08 Steve's brother actually had a pretty good idea for a business he was going to start. Instead of a wedding planner he'd sort of be a funeral planner but would mainly deal with food at a funeral.
2:09 Garry remembers what might have been the first time meeting Steve's parents. Steve went into the fridge, then slammed the door and said "who's the c-word who ate my carrot cake?" Garry couldn't believe Steve said that but Steve grew up in a profane household. Then there was the dinner where Steve's mom said that basically everyone was bisexual.
2:10 Steve and Garry also went to a World Series game in Milwaukee with Roger Dahl and Dan Falato. After the game they got lost in the parking lot trying to find the car, Steve and his dad arguing the entire time. Then Steve's dad tried to make out with Dan in the back seat.
2:11 In the time that Dan worked for Steve and Garry every single person on the Brewers was his cousin.
2:12 At the old County Stadium Billy Brewer used to slide from a Swiss chalet into a vat of beer every time someone hit a home run, then they'd release white balloons to make it look like suds. They stopped doing that after people complained.
2:13 Steve wishes his brother the best of luck with his endeavor though. Garry thinks Steve should take this whole thing to a TV studio, it would make a great sitcom.
2:22 Song: Do You Think I'm Disco? S.R. Dahl
2:25 Steve would like to wait for Buzz to come in the studio before he and Garry start reminiscing. Buzz will act as a moderator.
2:26 During the song Steve remembered something he was going to mention to Garry about his brother. Steve and Garry were doing a show at the Bismarck Hotel and someone was heckling Steve. It was some of the worst heckling Steve has ever heard.
2:27 Steve and Garry were up on stage pretending they were camping. They were very thematic. Siegfried & Roy stole a lot from them. They were only missing the cats.
2:28 Steve finally had to stop the show, turn the house lights on and see who was heckling him. Turns out it was his brother. Later that night Rick stayed in a room that Steve had rented at the hotel. He turned on the tub and then passed out, causing $10,000 in damage.
2:29 Garry would be remiss if he didn't mention the time they were at the Four Seasons in L.A. partying with Harry Nilsson. Steve was fine until the mushrooms came out. Steve had never done them before.
2:30 Steve retired to his room and intended to sleep in the bath tub. He turned the water on and passed out, eventually using up all the hot water in the hotel.
2:31 Ah the memories. The kids these days don't have the good stories like that. Garry is noticing that Steve is passing out commemorative Disco Demolition cookies. We do this every Thursday actually.
2:32 To mark the occasion Garry is passing out the commemorative peg legs with ashtrays in honor of Bill Veeck. Every time Steve sees Tammy Duckworth he thinks she should have wooden legs with ashtrays in them.
2:33 Buzz wasn't in Chicago for Disco Demolition so he missed out on all of it. The night after Disco Demolition Steve and Garry stayed at a Holiday Inn downtown.
2:34 The next morning reporters and camera crews were waiting in the lobby. After it was over Steve and Garry assumed they would be fired for what happened. B. Thomas Hoyt, the program director, told them they couldn't talk about what happened.
2:35 In the tape of the show after Disco Demolition you can hear Steve trying not to talk about what happened. Leading up to Disco Demolition was Skylab crashing to the Earth and the Three Mile Island disaster. Steve and Garry were telling people to walk around with hard hats to protect them from Skylab and bacon in their pockets so they'd know if there was any radiation approaching.
2:36 Garry's plan was to live in a Winnebago in his backyard to protect him from the fall-out. To this day people still ask him about it.
2:37 Right before Disco Demolition Steve and Garry had done a concert in Rockford with Cheap Trick and Journey. Leading up to the event there were several bar appearances where they blew up disco records.
2:38 So there were some inklings that Disco Demolition could be really big. There was one bar out in some suburb that was being changed into a disco club and then there was the riot at the Point East. But even when Jeff booked them into Comiskey Steve thought that was still too big of a venue.
2:39 The White Sox weren't really drawing many fans at the time so even if they got 5,000 people themselves it would still look ridiculous. At least Garry got to wear his flare-leg pants, Steve had to walk around in the helmet and too-tight army pants.
2:40 Steve plugged Disco Demolition a lot but he still didn't think it would be that big. Plus it was a double header so they had to get there at 4:00 in the afternoon. Before the game they were signing autographs with Lorelei and they got a pretty big crowd but Steve still didn't think anyone would show up.
2:41 Steve was also dreading having to go out on the field and he didn't know what he was going to say. He had to throw the first pitch out before the game with Lorelei. The catcher seemed more interested in working her though so Steve was just standing there in his army get-up after she threw out her pitch.
2:46 Cliff is here to congratulate Steve on 28 fabulous years of Disco Demolition. Cliff has a pacemaker now and when it clicks in sometimes he gets tongue-tied.
2:47 Live read: Frame Warehouse
2:48 Garry can do this live read as Cliff or J. Peterman. Steve didn't know Garry did a J. Peterman impersonation. He was reading it on his show one day and it just sounded like something J. Peterman would say.
2:49 Paul Haemer of Haemer Guitars owns Frame Warehouse. He's the one who made that 5 neck guitar for Cheap Trick and a Disco Demolition guitar for Steve.
2:50 After Steve threw out the first pitch he and Garry went up to Bill Veeck's private bar and had dinner. It seemed like there was a decent crowd coming in as they ate and maybe had a few cocktails. Steve couldn't drink enough cocktails but he never got drunk because his adrenaline was pumping so high.
2:51 As the first game was ending Harry Caray commented that the stadium was really starting to fill up. Some of the players warming up on the field had to put on batting helmets because people were throwing records at them.
2:52 It still never occurred to Steve that something was going on. They went down through the inside of the stadium to a Jeep and has they got on the gravel parking lot there were about a bazillion people there. Paul Natkin was on the hood of the Jeep and he's the one who took all the good photos.
2:53 Then they drove down 35th street and came up Shields to get into the back of the park. Things just kept getting weirder and weirder, like something out of Blade Runner.
2:54 Then they came in through the outfield and so that things were crazy in the park. At that point Steve was glad he had a helmet on and Garry was probably glad he had his mullet to protect them from cherry bombs and records and anything else being thrown at them, lovingly of course.
2:55 The Jeep went around the warning track and it was palpable that something was going on. Then they came out to center field and Steve and Garry said all the stuff that you heard at the beginning of the show. Steve sang Do You Think I'm Disco while Nancy Faust her best to keep up.
2:56 Steve is pretty sure that the demolitions expert was a Vietnam veteran and he had it set up for a series of concussion bombs to go off leading up to the container full of LPs.
2:57 Steve has no idea what the guy put under the records but stuff flew everywhere. He knew it was going to be a big explosion when the demolition guy started running.
2:58 After that Steve and Garry got back on the Jeep and went out onto Shields and then headed back to the front and went up into the press box. On a monitor in the security booth they were showing people rioting and Steve assumed it was a highlight from some previous World Series.
2:59 Once they got to the press box they realized that the monitor was showing what happened on the field. At that point several people tried to get people back to their seats including Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall.
3:00 Then someone sent Mitch Michaels down to try to get people back to their seats. He took the "Disco Sucks" chant and turned it into "Back to your Seats" which eventually worked.
3:01 Garry wants Steve to come on his show some time. Can he call in? Steve saw Jim Turano out in the hall. Is Steve staring at his toupee?
3:02 Steve had no idea Jim wore a toupee until Stan pointed it out. That guy studies everything. In reality he's mean and vindictive.
3:06 During Disco Demolition Jimmy Piersall said he'd rather go swimming that be a follower, storming the field like that. No one ever came down against swimming did they? It's been in the news a lot lately though hasn't it?
3:07 Is Jimmy Piersall still alive? Garry hasn't heard anything about him for 10 or 15 years. Steve thought he was still alive.
3:08 If Steve ever goes bald, which he doesn't think he will, he's getting a toupee from wherever Jim Turano got his. It's unfair that Stan outed Jim though, why did he do that? Why does he do anything? Why did he write what he wrote about the incident backstage at the Teenage Radiation book in the book at Steve's 50th birthday?
3:09 While people were storming the field at Comiskey B. Thomas Hoyt pulled them into the men's bathroom and told them not to talk about what happened on the air the next day.
3:10 Does Pete have the Mitch Michaels chant because Steve wants Garry to hear it. Steve thought he and Garry should have gone on the field to try to get people back into their seats. At that point Steve was sure they'd both be fired because of what had happened.
3:11 Garry should feel free to take a few Disco Demolition cookies home with him, they're from Zingleman's. In typical Buzz fashion he first complained that the cookie was too big and then he figured out how to break it up into pieces. At least Johnny always gave Buzz bite-sized things.
3:17 Live read: Cheeseburger in Paradise
3:19 What saddens Steve today, even though it was fun to reminisce with Garry, is that our own Drew Hayes is not here to enjoy the festivities. Steve does like that Jim Turano guy though. He came down and hung out by the studio just because he thought it would be cool to hear Steve and Garry talk about Disco Demolition.
3:20 Drew is out sick, having come down with something on the flight from Italy back home. He did say he's reachable if need be. Drew loves cookies though so he's going to be very upset.
3:21 You'll recall that Steve wasn't happy with Drew's auto-response when he was in Italy. All it said was to contact Dan if there was a problem. Steve doesn't know how to contact Dan though. What's he supposed to do, call Mark Grace for his number?
3:22 In today's email Drew left his cellphone, home phone and email address. Steve's going to call the home phone and see what happens. Buzz is wondering what this all mean's for tomorrow's remote.
3:23 So far Drew doesn't seem so easily reachable. That's three rings already. Here he is. Drew can't believe he missed cookies and Steve and Garry reminiscing.
3:24 Drew's not sure what's wrong with him but he probably caught something on the plane. Yesterday Mary cordoned the studio off to Drew. That's because no one wants to get sick, we have work to do.
3:25 Steve never gets sick anyway because he's not human. Buzz has been telling people that for years, he can't believe Steve finally admitted it.
3:26 Drew was in coach for the flight home, Steve recommends business class. That way you keep your immune system fed with cocktails and food.
3:27 A lot of people get sick on flights but Steve doses himself with vitamins before and after a flight and he never has a problem. Of course he's not human so he doesn't get sick.
3:28 Drew has never seen Steve even have a sniffle. Back when he was drinking he threw up every night.
3:29 Drew's sporting his shorts and Steve Dahl & the Dahlfins t-shirt which he also wears to bed. That's not something Steve wants to think about. Did he get the 2X so he can cinch it up and make it look like a dress?
3:30 That John Castino did a really nice job on the promo that mentioned Garry coming on the show today. Steve doesn't get a chance to compliment John because he's usually here much later in the day.
3:31 Buzz hasn't heard the promo. Maybe Pete could play it. He got a little nervous with that last cut he played, he's got the hair trigger. Pete's just excited about the Disco Demolition anniversary.
3:32 It is sort of exciting for Steve. It was kind of cool to just sit in the studio with Garry with their headphones on like they did for 17 years. It doesn't even matter what happened in the last 14 years.
3:33 Mary came down to tell Buzz that Steve wanted him in the studio. He thought we were still doing Music Snob Corner. Buzz walked in and saw Steve and Garry just sitting there and he didn't think they'd need him. Steve wanted him in the studio though, it's sort of like they're swingers and he wanted Buzz to watch him do someone else. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened.
3:34 John's promo even made Steve's on-field stuff sound good. Just an FYI, the Disco Demolition movie is still in the works. They're about halfway to getting the movie financed. Buzz forgot all about that but Steve hasn't and neither have Bob Teitel and Bob Odenkirk.
3:35 Buzz can't believe how long it's been already. The guy who originally started the whole thing, Jim Zulevic, died! So they have to do it for him. You hear about how it takes 13 years for someone to make a movie but now Steve can actually see how that's possible.
3:36 Steve has to switch off this Disco Demolition stuff because there's other stuff going on. Steve didn't know that Craig Stebic is now the focus of the investigation into Lisa Stebic's disappearance. There's a press conference going on right now.
3:37 Steve has a theory he'd like to run by Buzz. Sure he was wrong about thinking Dan Patrick was going to WFAN but what if this whole thing is stemming from some information Amy Jacobson got while at Stebic's house and turned over to the police?
3:38 The Plainfield chief of police said this has nothing to do with Amy Jacobson but did say that she has turned over any information she got in conversations with Stebic.
3:39 It's about time something happened with this case. The Plainfield police probably saw Stebic bopping around his backyard and speeded up the whole thing.
3:43 On the phone is Billy Jack from Comcast Sportsnet. He's just coming back from vacation and getting back into the mix.
3:44 Billy Jack had to get one last vacation in before training camp starts. Once the football season gets underway Billy does not look up. That's why he's the best football reporter in town.
3:45 Training camp starts on the 26th of July. It's always interesting for Billy to watch move-in day where the players are bringing big TVs into the dorm rooms.
3:46 One thing Lovie did last year was make the team practice at night if it got to hot out.
3:47 Steve and Buzz are hoping to do a broadcast from Bourbonnais at some point this summer. Tom Thayer recommended a show during a night practice because it would be easier to get players on the show.
3:48 There's not a whole lot going on with the team right now but Steve keeps seeing Urlacher on TV because of the whole child custody thing.
3:49 Billy knows Brian so Steve would like him to run something by him. The Hinsdale Oasis is a bad place to meet because you can't turn around. They're better off meeting at the Starbuck's at Ogden and 294.
3:50 Whenever Steve goes to that Starbuck's he sees a lot of parents exchanging kids there.
3:51 The Sox are in Baltimore tonight. They're coming off 2 wins before the All-Star break and the big Mark Buehrle signing. This is the time for them to put the pedal to the metal and at least make it interesting.
3:52 Steve's going to need a little more effort from the Sox or his money back. It's really hard to get the money back though, it's not something they do. They have a 13-game Ozzie Guillen ticket-buying plan but no 13-game refund plan.
3:53 The Cubs are also poised to make a run at Milwaukee. They might need a catcher who can hit though. Their catcher can only hit other players.
3:54 The Cubs players made things interesting in the All-Star game though. They tried their best to win the game. Does Billy think LaRussa should have put Pujols in?
3:55 LaRussa has said he wanted to save Pujols for extra innings but there were no extra innings. The bases were loaded, there were 2 outs, that's where you bring Pujols in.
3:56 Billy Jack really is the best Bears reporter in town. Plus his name is Billy Jack. Steve's not even sure if he's supposed to call him Billy Jack but all the players do.
3:57 The station is working on a Bourbonnais broadcast. It's not too far away but Buzz can get a hotel room for the night if need be.
3:58 Steve doesn't want Drew coming though because he's a buzzkill, with all due respect to Buzz.
3:59 Steve will be handing out condoms to all the players in Bourbonnais. He's getting Magnums because he doesn't want to insult anyone.
4:04 Live read: Arby's
4:05 Popcorn chicken shaker is not a religion, it's a snack or even a meal. Steve assumes you can try the chicken with barbecue and buffalo sauce at the same time. It's an interesting concept that Buzz will have try out some time.
4:06 Yesterday after the Arby's live read Steve played Shakin' All Over from Live at Leeds.
4:07 For some reason Live at Leeds is a seminal moment in Steve's life in terms of him wanting to get into showbiz. It was also a great live album but the cover looked like it was wrapped in a brown paper bag as if it had come right from the record company. Inside was a copy of The Who's contract from Woodstock.
4:08 At the time Steve didn't know something like that existed. He assumes that they didn't get paid for playing Woodstock but they definitely benefited from being there. The only band that didn't really benefit from playing Woodstock was Sha-Na-Na.
4:09 There was another shaking song Steve wanted to play yesterday but he didn't get a chance. We don't have the chicken shakers today though but that doesn't really matter.
4:10 Song: Shakin' Shakin' Shakes, Los Lobos
4:13 Steve has a feeling that song's about earthquakes but he's not sure. That makes sense though.
4:14 Steve's trying to make a phone call but Buzz isn't even going to ask who he's calling. He dialed the wrong number anyway so it doesn't matter. The dialer on the phone is totally useless to Steve because it's too far away and the track lighting bounces off it, making the numbers unreadable.
4:15 Steve just wanted to make sure that Drew was actually sick and not skipping out because it's a nice day. Could Drew at least try to sound sicker?
4:16 Drew actually got a call from Jeff Schwartz today and he said that he sounded sick. Why is Jeff calling Drew? And he just acts like it's a normal thing.
4:17 Jeff is going to have a weekend show on the station about Fantasy Football. Buzz thought there was bad blood between Drew and Jeff though.
4:18 Steve never gets sick but he takes vitamins everyday and that's key. He takes the multi-vitamin pack from GNC with the energy spank. Drew could use a good spank.
4:19 Steve also recommends some exercise for Drew. What does he have at the house? One of those Nordic Flex machines where he's too short to change the weights?
4:20 Drew takes Steve's advice on health care and restaurants but oddly enough not radio.
4:21 Steve better not hear about Drew doing anything else today except exercise and vitamin-taking. No video games with his son or else Steve's calling Rod Zimmerman and reporting this as a vacation day.
4:26 We never did Music Snob Corner today, how is that affecting Pete's mental health? Not that he's been doing a bad job but he's very routinized.
4:27 Are we doing to do one today? We can do one but it can't be the long one we normally do. Although when Pete gets in here he's such a fascinating specimen that he ends up staying for a while.
4:28 Headlines with Buzz
4:29 Steve doesn't see any audio for the headlines, does Buzz want him to provide some? He could probably be Craig Stebic or something.
4:30 Craig Stebic, who's wife has been missing since April and who recently hosted some poolside festivities with Amy Jacobson, has been named as a person of interest by the Plainfield police. And that's not just becuase he throws down a sweet pool party.
4:31 You gotta think that when the Plainfield police department sees him having a pool party they make him a person of interest. He was probably a person of interest all along what with the acrimonious divorce.
4:32 Buzz doesn't recall ever hearing the lab results from the blood found on that tarp in Stebic's garage. He said it was deer blood.
4:34 In Great Britain funds are being made available to fit bobbies with cameras in their hats. Isn't that something we almost had on the show?
4:35 Steve was working on a Cabesa Cam for the show. Right now we're trying to get it wireless. Buzz would look
4:37 Cardboard flavored with pork and seasoning were used as a substitute for bao buns in one Chinese neighborhood.
4:44 Phil Rosenthal was on CNN talking about Amy Jacobson. Steve thinks that a dude in a bathing suit would have been just as bad. It's the pool party and her kids there that is the problem.
4:45 Steve just wants to make sure that everyone is clear about what's going on tomorrow. The Blarney Island broadcast will be the Chicago debut of Jimmy Buffett's Landshark Lager.
4:46 In order to get to Blarney Island you have to go to the Port of a Blarney at 27843 West Grass Lake Road in Antioch and catch the ferry.
4:47 Steve can only assume that everything goes on Blarney Island since it's in the middle of a lake and sort of hard to get to. Plus it's Blarney Gras this weekend. Steve and Buzz have ordered special beads that alternately feature miniature versions of their heads.
4:48 We've been giving away VIP passes to the broadcast every Friday but you can still come out if you didn't win. The VIP passes get you free food and drinks but everyone 21 and older is welcome.
4:49 Today we're also giving away tickets to Saturday's Dahlfins show at North Beach in Downers Grove. All the tickets are free but if Steve were charring, based on that last show, they'd be $50 a piece.
4:50 If you try to win tickets and can't win them you could probably go to North Beach between 7:00 and 9:00 and talk your way in. It's a free show so everyone who has free tickets gets in first but after that you can probably get in.
4:51 So if you make the effort to come out tomorrow to North Beach you could probably get in. If you don't want to make the effort there are still three shows left in the next few months.
4:52 One of the sponsors of tomorrow's broadcast is Woodstock Harley which means Steve and Buzz will probably be coming home on Harley's.
4:53 Steve saw the Harley he wants yesterday but didn't know how to stop the guy and ask him what kind it was. Buzz was looking at the Sportster at a dealership and the sales guy told him it was a girly bike. Buzz isn't really a bike guy so it seemed like enough bike for him.
4:54 Caller Johnny just passed the Oak Lawn Harley. He thinks that the sales guy was trying to do Buzz a favor by saying the Sportster is a girly bike. Most people who buy one end up trading up shortly after.
4:55 Johnny recommends a bigger bike for Steve, perhaps a Road King. That's what he has, it's the kind that has the bags on the side.
4:56 Steve's not going to get a Sportster because it's a girly bike but he was going to let Buzz get one and then taunt him.
4:57 Maybe Steve will get the Road King and then a sidecar for Buzz.
4:58 This is all going to be a lot of talk and no action, like they time Steve and Buzz were going to join the Masons.
4:59 Caller Danny is a Teamster. His wife bought him a Sportster for his birthday and he caught so much crap that he had to sell it.
5:00 There's a Road King and a Softail in Danny's office so he had to sell it. He didn't upgrade, he just bought a car. Teamsters need at least 4 wheels.
5:01 Danny is in Local 714 which is law enforcement. All of the Teamster stuff Buzz has is from 714. He's also the king of Teamster comedy.
5:02 Let's not even go there with Danny OK? Why does Buzz keep bringing that up?!
5:03 Buzz has a good one for Danny. Why do Teamsters uses horses in their logo? They're the only animals that sleep standing up. He can't help himself.
5:04 So Buzz is out for the Sportster. Turns out that sales guy was just trying to help him.
5:09 We've got Meat Talk coming up with Chef Hans but first it's time for the Five O'Clock Taco Bell.
5:10 Steve has some great news for Buzz. As it turns out the cheese and beef quesadilla that Steve and Buzz enjoyed last month can be special ordered at any Taco Bell.
5:11 Steve's already got the music rolling for Meat Talk. And here's Chef Hans. He may have a bit of a deep voice coming off a bad cold. Buzz thinks it's very sexy.
5:12 Steve made the tri-tip that Hans brought him last week, it was delicious. Steve put it in an olive oil marinade with salt, garlic salt and some powdered chipotle. It cooked a little fast on Steve's new grill though and was a little more done than he would have liked.
5:13 It just got away from him. One minute it was at 130º and medium rare and the next it was in the 150s. Only a real man can admit his meat foibles to another man.
5:14 Since Steve has already outed himself for overcooking the tri-tip he's going to ask Hans a question. He was at the Sox game and they were serving carne asada. It didn't seem like it was a roast though.
5:15 Hans thinks it's either a brisket or a triangle cut which is the top of a butt. Steve doesn't know everything about meat but he knows a lot.
5:16 Steve's trying to redeem himself here but Buzz doesn't think he has to. Steve doesn't like not knowing things about sports, meat or sex.
5:17 How about some phone calls today? We didn't give away a dinner last week but it seems like a lot of the emails are just fake attempts to get a free dinner.
5:18 A lot of time the people who win have some sort of stipulation and they want to use the dinner at a Smith & Wollensky in Cincinnati or something.
5:19 Steve forwarded Adam an email today from a woman who's husband was sick and couldn't use the dinner originally. Then she emailed to say that her husband was better and wanted to go. Adam probably took care of it but Steve sends him a lot of stuff so he might have ignored it.
5:20 Steve was trying to call Adam but he just showed up at the studio. He did get that email from Steve today and the woman was trying to pick up a new certificate that didn't expire too quickly.
5:21 It's a lot of stuff like that, you'd be surprised at how many people complain about free stuff. Adam took care of it though.
5:22 The first Meat Talk email is from someone who won a dinner previously and wanted thank Chef Hans.
5:23 A lot of these emails are from contest people and that can get irritating. Remember that one woman who wanted Steve to marry her and her fiance in Mexico?
5:24 The next emailer wanted to ask if there's a difference between frozen and never-frozen meat. Hans can say there is a big difference. Is that it? He's a man of few words today.
5:25 A lot of the prime beef you eat comes frozen but you can defrost it in the fridge for a few days.
5:26 The next emailer has a question about purchasing half of a steer or a whole steer. Is there a certain breed to look for?
5:27 Steve's parents used to do that when he was kid. Everything they had was beef. The ice cream in the freezer tasted like beef.
5:28 How much money are you going to save if you buy a cow and have to do all the butchering? This sounds like another guy who's just trying to win a free dinner.
5:29 Alright that's three emails, Steve and Buzz are just going to take the dinner for themselves. The restaurant is very busy today but that doesn't matter to Steve as long as Hans can get them in.
5:32 Steve does get upset when he gets the meat stuff wrong. That meat at The Cell was something he'd never seen before but they called it carne asada. He got there just as they were running out of the prime rib.
5:33 Steve asked the guy to cut the it sideways to get a thicker piece and he always has to ask for more than 1 piece.
5:34 Buzz wants to know what asada means. Is it tasty steak?
5:35 Live read: Townstone Financial
5:36 Carne asada means grilled meat. Asada means grilled. It was good whatever it was. Steve had three pieces of it.
5:37 We've got a lot going on food-wise today. We had the Disco Sucks cookies, then the Taco Bell quesadillas and now ribs. These are all sponsors so you can't say no.
5:38 The Cheeseburger in Paradise people brought some ribs in. Yesterday Steve was 280.6 and now he's 281. He might have picked up those 4/10th on the Arby's and a box of Whoppers.
5:39 Buzz is on the scale almost everyday now. Steve calls his scale the Jumbotron which is kind of fun.
5:40 Steve's going to take a break and then get the ribs going. Then Steve and Buzz can take a nap for the last hour of the show.
5:41 Buzz should get close to the Cheeseburger in Paradise guy because he's looking to have dinner out there before the show on Saturday.
5:46 During the break Steve heard a very convivial Buzz Kilman working Joe, the manager of the Cheeseburger in Paradise in Downers Grove. He just wanted to make sure he was all hooked up.
5:47 Buzz travels with Chris Wood to his gigs so they'll be having dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise.
5:48 Joe brought some barbecue jerk ribs with him. Joe brought his daughter Kelsey and Amy who's a server at the restaurant. She's also a big fan.
5:49 So how does Steve get these ribs over to him? Joe brought extra plates for the rib bones for Steve.
5:50 The ribs are just like Steve remembered them. He also feels that they're exactly the kind of ribs that Buzz is looking for.
5:51 Joe will be coming out to the show on Saturday night. Is he bringing Amy?
5:52 Steve's going to have to come into Cheeseburger in Paradise one of these days and play a few songs. That's his next step, traveling troubadour.
5:53 Steve forgot Joe's daughter's name but he tries not to remember for the underage girls.
6:00 OK, The Office drop with Michael talking about Stanley's daughter was inappropriate. It was funny but inappropriate.
6:01 Something just popped into Buzz's head that he has to share. Piper is going to camp and mentioned a boy that she likes.
6:02 Aimee asked Piper if she likes and she explained that she currently has 5 lovers but 3 of them might not be cute. Then Aimee spent the next half hour discouraging Piper from every using the word lover again.
6:03 Alright we can do Pete's song right now or we can do news or sports. Maybe we should do the song so Steve and Buzz can digest a little bit.
6:04 The ribs were actually taken away from Steve and Buzz much like Baby Richard was taken away from his mother.
6:05 Could Pete move any slower? Staring at the CD players with CDs in them will not do anything to take the CDs out of there.
6:06 Pete wasn't sure if he should take out the news audio or the sports audio. He wasn't sure which one was more important. He was going to remove the sports audio but then he thought Steve might do sports.
6:07 Steve loves when Pete overthinks things. At the beginning of the show, after the normal show open full of Disco Demolition-related clips Pete inserted three more Disco Demolition drops before the song.
6:08 Pete had those three drops that he wanted to use and felt like doing something a little different because it's a special day. So he wanted to throw Steve off?
6:09 Pete just thought that changing up the show open a little bit would make listeners realize that it was a special day. Other than Steve who would notice that?
6:10 Garry's got some new headphones he's been talking about a lot. They're Sennheiser's which Steve also sports. Steve's headphones are $400 but he's a professional so he needs good ones.
6:11 Garry's headphones go around the back of his head, Steve thinks he doesn't want to mess up his hair. He does have great hair.
6:12 In The Departed Matt Damon has that sweet stereo set-up with the exact same headphones Steve has.
6:13 Now on to Pete's song. Last night one of Pete's bands, Spoon, was on Letterman. They played The Underdog which was first heard in Chicago on this show. XRT will probably get credit for it though.
6:14 Buzz saw that Spoon put out a vinyl for their new album. Pete corrects Buzz with an overpronunciation of vinyl. What gives Pete the right to do that just because he relates to some stupid sketch or change the show open or say internets instead of internet?
6:15 Buzz is wondering if Spoon has backed up the vinyl release with other formats. That's probably a good idea since no one has a turntable. Jim has a turntable and so do Bob and Ron. That might cause Jim to rethink his purchase of a turntable. Jim also buys the digital downloads of the albums he buys on vinyl. He has the vinyl because he also DJs at parties.
6:16 Today's song is by The Klaxons who will be at PItchfork Music Festival this weekend. The festival is sold out which is about 50.000 people. That's a lot but it's not as big as Lollapalooza.
6:17 Who puts on the PItchfork Festival, farmers? Pete first mentioned the festival last year, it's put on by Pitchfork Media which is an online music site. Steve remembers all of this now. He probably made the farmer joke last year.
6:18 Did Pete get credentials for Pitchfork? He should be able to get them. Will this conflict with Pete going to the Dahlfins show because Steve is expecting another back rub.
6:19 Caller Bob wanted to let Steve know that Yoko Ono is playing PItchfork this year. She could bring the entire thing to a screeching halt.
6:20 Pete will not be at Blarney Island tomorrow, he's having some emergency dental work in the morning.
6:21 Pete's having a root canal done. The dentist put an emergency crown on his tooth during the hiatus but he has to go back tomorrow to get it finished.
6:27 Live read: Gierczyk Properties
6:28 Pete didn't cue the right song up. Steve put the CD in so technically it's his fault. He always assumes it's just going to be one song and not 20 other songs we're not going to hear.
6:29 Song: Golden Skans, The Klaxons
6:32 That song was alright. Short and to the point. Pete won't be at Pitchfork for Yoko, she's playing at 9:00. He's acting like he's making a big sacrifice but he's just missing Yoko.
6:38 News with Buzz
6:39 The Dow closed at a record high up 285 points to 13,862. Will we even see Buzz on Monday? Analysts cite increased consumer spending and a potential Alcoa takeover. That's what Buzz is pinning his hopes on.
6:40 Rather than go to prison for contempt of court one of Phil Spector's former attorneys will testify against him in his murder trial. The attorney will testify that she saw someone remove a fingernail from the scene of the crime.
6:41 An attempt to blackmail Miss New Jersey has failed as the pagent board unanimously voted for her to retain her crown. The pictures included Amy Polumbo holding avocados in front of her breasts and sitting in the backseat of a car, fully closed but legs spread.
6:42 Plainfield police have named Craig Stebic a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife Lisa. Stebic claims he was not involved in her disappearance. If you want to charge him with planning a pool party and inviting Amy Jacobson you might have something.
6:43 Steve has some more info about those Miss New Jersey photos. In one she's spanking someone but everyone is fully-clothed. Also, she's not holding up avocados, they look like little pumpkins to Steve.
6:45 Former Chicago alderwoman Arenda Troutman will now face 13 additional charges for tax evasion, mail fraud and extortion.
6:46 An Oklahoma woman and her baby were removed from a plane by a stewardess after the child began repeating "bye, bye plane" over and over again.
6:47 The stewardess first offered the woman baby benadryl but when she refused to drug her baby the stewardess went to pilot and said she'd been threatened.
6:48 Steve has some more of these Amy Polumbo photos. The one of her as Alice in Wonderland is pretty hot. But nothing is all that dirty.
6:49 If it was on the Today's Show it can't be that dirty.
6:55 There is one photo of some guy biting Amy Polumbo's breast which is pretty hot. She has all her clothes on but has a "what are you gonna do/boys will be boys" look on her face.
6:56 Buzz is wondering how long it'll be before Polumbo ends up in Playboy or one of those magazines.
6:57 She can't do anything until after the Miss America Pagent though, she still has to compete in that. It'll be at least a year then.
6:58 Matt thinks this is good for the Miss America Pagent, it just brings them attention. None of the photos are that bad, they're pretty hot actually.
6:59 There are a lot of photos of Polumbo in various costumes. The costume parties are big with the kids these days.
7:00 Halloween is Matt's favorite holiday, it's just an excuse for women to dress up in really slutty costumes. They're not a witch they're a sexy witch.
7:01 Matt and Brendan have an appearance at Papa Pasero's in Westmont tonight. They used to go there after Little League games.
7:02 Steve heard Matt and Brendan talking about some party Mike wanted to have at the house. Mike thinks it's his house but the last time Steve checked his name is on the title.
7:03 Mike's not having the party but he's trying to get a party bus from downtown to North Beach. The last time Matt put the limo on his credit card before getting money from anyone. This time Mike's handling it. He's still putting the bus on Steve's credit card though.
7:04 Mike Dahl is on the phone, he just got word that Steve was ripping into him. Word from whom?
7:05 Pat called Mike and told him what was going on. That seems like a bit of an overstatement. These boys have thin skin.
7:06 It seems way worse for Pat to call Mike and get him all worked up about this.
7:07 Pat Dahl is on the phone, he was referring to Steve saying that Mike thinks the house is his and that everything gets put on Steve's credit card. That's not ripping, that's the truth.
7:08 Pat was talking to Mike about their dinner plans and he happened to be listening to the show. Dinner plans? Steve's just sorry he has to work all the time and can't go out to dinner or spend a few days in Michigan boating and gambling.
