2:01 Last night at the Sox game Stan was calling Juan Uribe "Shooter" because he thought he shot someone in the DR during the off-season. Steve didn't think it was a shooting but someone was killed.
2:02 Before we delve into this Terry has a question for Steve. Haven't we already delved into this?
2:03 Terry got an email from a PR person at Gilda's Club asking him to interview Steve about the benefit. She said Steve would only talk to Terry but he thought that would be unethical since they work together.
2:04 Steve has already had a bad experience with this thing. He thought it was a pretty big deal that he and Garry were going to be on stage together but in typical charity, cluster fashion, everyone else hopped on board like Bill Zwecker and Jen Schefft. Steve doesn't want to see Jen Scheff and Susanna Homan billed above him and Garry.
2:05 Steve likes the original concept that Kelly Leonard came up with. His idea was to have people with differences, like a Sox player and a Cubs player or Stev and Garry, come up on stage and field a few questions. Then Second City would do an improv around that.
2:06 Terry should talk to Kelly Leonard about this whole thing. Steve had to do an interview with Time Out Chicago and the girl said it didn't sound very interesting.
2:07 Anytime there's some sort of charity event there are a million PR hacks involved who mess everything up. Although the woman who called Terry sounded very nice and sensible, she'll pass it on to someone else who will mess it up.
2:08 A lot of these charity people are unstoppable because they're cloaked behind the charity. A lot of people just want their names in the paper, like that stupid Green Tie Ball. What's the point of that? Can't Steve just buy a few shrubs and donate them? Do we need some event with David Schwimmer walking around?
2:09 Steve does think Gilda's Club is a good charity and he liked Gilda Radner so he's happy to do this.
2:10 It just seems like they're better off talking to Kelly Leonard. Why does Steve have to explain what it is to Time Out Chicago? Just say who's going to be there, what it's for and that should be enough to draw people in.
2:11 The girl who interviewed Steve for Time Out was trying to get Steve to break bad on Garry.
2:12 This is why Steve never does charity stuff, it gets too complicated. The goal should be to raise money for the charity but instead it turns into some self-agrandizing event.
2:13 By the time the event rolls around everyone there hates Steve becuase of something he said. He's going to get to this thing and Jen Schefft will hate him. He'll try to live with that though.
2:14 Steve's doing this for the charity and because he likes Kelly Leonard and his dad Roy Leonard.
2:15 On the other hand, Stan and Terry are going to a podcast summit at the Apple Store tonight to get publicity.
2:16 How is that going to get them publicity? Unless a car drives through the front of the building it won't end up on the news. Maybe one of them should be behind the wheel of the car and the other should be inside.
2:17 The summit is about people who podcast and Stan and Terry are going to talk about doing interviews since they interview a lot of people. They certainly do.
2:23 Alright, joining Steve now is Dr. Dog. That's Zach Miller on organ but today he's playing the accordion. Does he have "Zach" inlaid on it in Mother of Pearl.
2:24 Then there's Justin Stenz playing a Casio keyboard. There's always one guy in the band who annoys the rest of the band just wailing on some instrument. If someone doesn't tell him to stop Steve's going to flat the tires on their tour bus.
2:25 Dr. Dog is from Philadelphia, city of Brotherly Love. Steve's only been there once but it's a great town. They have that sweet Masonic lodge which makes Steve want to join the Masons. He doesn't know what is going on in there but he wants to put on a robe and check it out.
2:26 Steve doesn't want to go through all the steps, he just wants to get to that level where he can go to the one in Philadelphia. He's been asked to join but he'd have to go to some place in Downers Grove.
2:27 Steve always imagines there's a girl duct taped up inside but he can't prove it. Steve means the Masonic lodge not the band's tour bus.
2:28 The band doesn't even have a tour bus but Wilco does. They haven't been invited on yet but they just met the band yesterday.
2:29 Dr. Dog is opening for Wilco tonight in Millennium Park at the Pritzker Pavilion. It's a cool venue, Steve predicts it will be one of their favorite gigs ever.
2:30 Dr. Dog performs California.
2:33 That's some pretty tight harmonies for 2:30 in the afternoon. The accordion sounded fantastic too.
2:34 Everyone in the band seems really young but they've been together for 7 years. They've been together since junior high school.
2:35 The band has toured the country several times and have come through Chicago but opening for Wilco is huge.
2:36 Jeff Tweedy heard the band and asked them to join the Wilco tour. It's pretty cool that he's giving back. Steve would have someone really bad open for him.
2:37 Dr. Dog performs Fate.
2:39 That's a brand-spanking new song, it's not even on an album. Steve was listening to the last album as he ran today.
2:40 Steve picked up a few influences from the album that he'd like to run by the band. First he heard White Album-era Beatles and then Surf's Up-era Beach Boys. He's correct.
2:41 Steve can't remember specific songs because it's hard to look at the display when you're running.
2:47 Dr. Dog is here, Zach, Scott, Justin, Toby and Calvin. This is the entire band, squeezed into Pete's studio. Steve tries not to go in there because it's too much of a mess but he might have cleaned it up for the band.
2:48 Steve doesn't like the headphone pile. That says to him "keep out". Steve wears the same pair of headphones five hours a day but sometimes when he thinks he's not sounding good he asks for a new pair.
2:49 Steve only recently learned that the new headphones just come from that pile in Pete's studio.
2:50 Most of Dr. Dog's albums are on iTunes but they've also released an internet-only EP. There are also a few albums that haven't been released yet.
2:51 The good thing about iTunes is that people can go to the show tonight and then download Dr. Dog albums when they get home. The only thing Steve doesn't like about iTunes is he doesn't know what song he's listening to, but that's just because he can't see the display.
2:52 Steve would imagine the Wilco show is sold out tonight because they always sell out shows here. The good thing about the venue is there's a lot of park space around the venue so you don't have to have tickets.
2:53 The next song is not on an album, it's a cover of a Crystals song.
2:54 Dr. Dog performs There's No Other Like My Baby.
2:58 Steve thought they were just hosing him when they said it was a Crystals song but it really was.
2:59 Dr. Dog performs a song.
3:02 When in Philly, what's the recommended Philly Cheesesteak place? Gino's is sort of the tourist trap but any decent pizza place has a good cheesesteak.
3:03 There was a place Steve went with a checkerboard theme. That was Jim's and it's a good place.
3:08 That Jim's place in Philly was darn good. That's where Steve's driver told him to go.
3:09 That Gino's place seems like a tourist trap, not that that's bad. Uno's in Chicago is a tourist trap but it's good pizza.
3:10 The band asked Steve if he was going to come over and see their set but they go on before 7:00. He told them to put him on their list but they said they didn't have one.
3:11 Then the band seemed disappointed that Steve couldn't just walk over there and get in. There used to be a time when he could get in anywhere becuase the security guard recognized him.
3:12 So Buzz is out again today. On Monday he had his kidney stone zapped and then yesterday he had a shunt put in, a stunning shunt, to open everything up and get all that stuff out of your kidney.
3:13 Tomorrow Buzz is having the shunt taken out. He didn't want to come in today because the shunt makes you go to the bathroom a lot. Steve told him to wear a diaper, Lisa Nowak-style but he didn't want to.
3:14 Buzz should be back tomorrow after the shunt is removed and then everything will be groovy.
3:15 Steve can't really say that Buzz would rather be here than at home though. The only bad thing about being at home is that he has to stop the horror movies all the time to go to the bathroom. Quality kill, pee, quality kill, pee.
3:16 Pete did a great job engineering the band but he was very nervous. He's always nervous when it's more than 2 people.
3:17 When Steve spun some Dr. Dog yesterday he was shocked because it sounds different. Steve is expecting everything to sound like Eagles. That being said Steve listened to them several times as he ran today and he really liked it.
3:18 What else is going on today? Any good audio? Pete does have Steve's part from Someone to Eat Cheese With but it's only one line. It comes out in Chicago in a few weeks but you can get it on Comcast On Demand right now.
3:19 Steve ordered it last night but fell asleep which is an amazing phenomenon. Steve could be up all night watching free TV but when he plays for something he falls asleep right away.
3:20 Pete fell asleep about 60 minutes in but it's only an 85 minute movie. Steve's part is about 20 or 30 minutes in. There are a lot of familiar faces in the movie like Phyllis from The Office, Pete on 30 Rock and Joey Slotnick.
3:21 Steve only recently learned that Amy Sedaris was in the movie. He loves her. They didn't share any screen time and there was no after party. It was a very low-budget movie though. On the day Steve filmed his scene the craft services table was a girl with an electric frying pan making 4 breakfast sandwiches at a time.
3:22 It's good to see movies being filmed in Chicago that are set here. We've got Batman filming here but they'll pretend it's New York, or Gotham actually. It's not good for Pete because it messes up his commute. He only had to walk an extra block though but Steve can see how that would mess him up.
3:23 Did Pete have pizza on Sunday for the Bears game? He's actually decided to wait until the Packers game in October. He didn't want to start eating it in the middle of the month.
3:24 You might recall that Pete was trying to not eat pizza until the Bears season started. It's not a good idea to save up like that though. Just do things in moderation.
3:25 Steve wanted to take Pete to a Bears game this year but he doesn't want to if he's going to not eat anything from the buffet and ask if they have yogurt.
3:26 Pete prefers to be alone to watch the Bears games. So if Steve brought him to a game he'd just sit in the bathroom watching the game.
3:27 Pete just dropped to the bottom of the list of people Steve's going to take. He's not trying to get in Pete's pants, he's just bringing him to a game. He's like some crazed hot chick.
3:30 That's another fine drop from My Boys which is on TBS or TNT or something. This season ended with a cliffhanger. Steve doesn't watch it becuase it's a stupid show, how can Pete watch it?
3:31 Pete questions why he watches it every time but he keeps watching it. It's good for drops about Chicago, although no one talks that self-consciously about Chicago.
3:32 Up until Steve got his sweet Bears tickets last year he was the same way as Pete was, he wanted to stay at home and watch the games. So Pete's not crazy. He's not going to the game with Pete though, maybe he can go with Commissioner Ed.
3:33 New York Knicks star Stephan Marbury took the stand today in a $10 million sexual harassment against Isaiah Thomas and the Knicks.
3:34 Marbury admitted that he lured one of the female accuser's subordinates into his car but did not say explicitly that they had sex as fired exec Anucha Browne Sanders has claimed.
3:35 Sanders claims that Thomas fired her in 2006 for daring to hire a lawyer.
3:38 Brendan brought this thing in and acted like he had gold but so far Steve isn't seeing anything.
3:46 Steve's going to try this again. Sanders broke down on the stand for the first time in the trial in which she accused Thomas of firing her for trying to hire a lawyer.
3:47 Sanders began weeping as she described how an intern for the Knicks was subjected to a filthy come-on by Marbury's cousin. Those are the best kind of come-ons.
3:48 Marbury also admitted calling Sanders a "bitch" for not giving him extra game tickets for friends and family.
3:49 Marbury tried to race to his blue Rolls Royce after his testimony to avoid reporters. It's good to know he tones it down when he's going to court.
3:50 Earlier in the day Sanders described how Marbury's cousin harassed the intern. What does this have to do with Isaiah Thomas though?
4:03 On the phone is Josh Mora from Comcast Sportsnet. He's wondering if Steve gets juiced hearing the Comcast music. He doesn't really.
4:04 It gets Josh juiced up because he used to be on in Buffalo. There are more people watching in Chicago. It's like 70,000 people are yelling your name.
4:05 Josh is Jewish and today is Rosh Hashanah but not until sundown. Steve told him it was Rush Ahomah and that he could use it on the air.
4:06 Josh doesn't want to offend anyone but he will not make it home by sundown. He likes his job more than his religion.
4:07 Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year which kicks off the 9 days of atonement. It's capped off with Yom Kippur where you're fasting and in temple all day.
4:08 Rosh Hashanah is the more festive of the High Holidays but it's not like a normal New Year's celebration. Tonight you might go to temple and then go have dinner.
4:09 What makes a Josh Mora stop caring as much about his religion? Josh doesn't think Steve wants to spend that much time on this.
4:10 Let's talk some sports. This is a busy week. Jim Thome is on the cusp of 500 home runs, the Cubs are in a pennant race that's making their fans throw stuff at their TVs and the Bears need a win. Plus the Hawks opening camp soon.
4:11 Steve's excited about the Bears but he's not a Cubs fan. He's still hoping the Cubs hang on though.
4:12 Sunday's game wasn't a joyous occasion in Steve's house but it was what it was. They could have won the game. Josh was expecting them to lose though.
4:13 The Bears have won all three of their second-week games under Lovie Smith. Tom Thayer said on Monday that weeks 2 and 3 are when teams really start coming together.
4:14 Steve's going to put Ed Farmer on but first he has to play his intro.
4:15 Jim Thome hit his 499th home run today off the right foul poll. The Sox won today 7-4. They could still lose 100 games though.
4:16 Ed is wondering if Steve kicked any field goals on Monday night. He did not but there were girls who were doing it. That could be a new game, it certainly has it's merits.
4:17 On Saturday Ed had Chris Singleton leading Steve as he was throwing t-shirts. Steve was catching them and giving them to fans.
4:18 All oft his was going on in the 7th inning as Steve was trying to leave to avoid being hit by t-shirts. Chris was hitting Steve as a moving target like it was some sort of carnival game.
4:19 If the broadcasting thing doesn't work out for Chris he could have a fall back as a member of the Pride Crew. Chris is doing a great job though. Now he can keep score which helps Ed if he misses something. Last year he didn't know how to keep score.
4:20 Ed keeps a great score card. Steve has one of his cards that he can look at and still remember everything that happened. The best scorecard Ed ever kept was for Buehrle's no-hitter.
4:21 One of these days Ed needs to bring Mark in and Steve will help him work on his voiceovers. He's doing these Air Tran ads and they're jarring.
4:22 Steve's boy Juan Uribe hit another home run today. Once next season starts Steve is open to any players. Right now he doesn't know who to hate though. He will be sending Jim Thome a muffin basket when he hits 500.
4:23 Ed would have to check this for sure but this might be the first year that 3 players have reached the 500 home run mark.
4:24 Josh can confirm that. A-Rod and Frank Thomas already did it, plus Sammy hit 600 and Barry Bonds surpassed Hank Aaron.
4:25 Friday Thome could go for 500 against the Angels. Jose Contreras is pitching. Steve might have to come out for that.
4:26 Steve was at the game on Saturday but he didn't come up because the guy he was with didn't have a press pass. Ed, just like Tom Thayer, thinks Steve can just get up there but he can't. He's lost too much weight, people don't recognize him.
4:27 Steve has relatives in town this weekend so he'll be looking for excuses to get out of the house.
4:28 Ed was wondering if Dusty Dvoracek was out for the season this year too. He is, along with Mike Brown. That makes it much better doesn't it? Ed has one name for Steve and Josh...Thomas Jones.
4:29 Steve is hoping something good will happen this Sunday. Michigan and Notre Dame are playing on Saturday and someone has to win. Is there any way both teams can lose because it seems like that's what'll happen.
4:30 Ed wishes Charlie Weis a lot of luck, Notre Dame is playing in the Big House at the University of Michigan.
4:31 Steve asks Ed about the Cubs. The Brewers lost today so the Cubs just need to win to get back into first place.
4:32 The Cardinals are 4 games behind first place but they've snuck into the playoffs and ended up in the World Series before.
4:33 Ed thinks if Zambrano can just keep winning games the Cubs should be able to get in. He hopes they do well because Jim Hendry is a close friend of his.
4:34 Yesterday Ed saw a Budweiser commercial with the clydesdales pulling the truck through the snow. Then they come over the Brooklyn Bridge and they show the skyline.
4:35 The horses look at each other and then get down on one knee, noticing the towers aren't there.
4:40 Jim Thome is hoping to get his 500th home run ball back. Who wouldn't give it to him? Steve would if he caught it, then he'd bring him a nice muffin basket which they'd share over a cup of coffee, drunk with both hands around the mug.
4:41 Live read: Gierczyk Properties
4:42 Song: The American in Me, Michael McDermott
4:46 Steve heard that one on our sister station, XRT, on his way home yesterday.
4:51 Once again, Buzz should be back tomorrow. He had his kidney stones zapped and a stunning shunt put in.
4:52 The shunt makes you have to go to the bathroom a lot which is probably inconvenient and maybe unpleasant. Buzz is very aware of how he presents himself.
4:53 Buzz didn't want to wear a diaper which is understandable. That's a lasting image that Steve doesn't want.
4:54 Headlines with Buzz Steve
4:55 Portions of Texas and Louisiana are preparing to deal with Tropical Storm Umberto. Steve's favorite pizza place in Florida is Umberto's. They have the Long Island style pizza Steve likes.
4:56 President Bush can't do anything right, at least in the eyes of Democrats. Bush will address the nation tomorrow night and announce a troop withdrawal from Iraq. Democrats are saying it's not enough.
4:57 Tony Snow made his final appearance as White House press secretary. He claims he's leaving the job for financial reasons and not because of a recent cancer diagnoses.
4:58 You'd think Snow would know how much money he was going to make in this job before he took it.
4:59 Kevin Everett's doctors are saying it's "nearly miraculous" that he now has use of his arms and legs. Just days ago he was fighting for his life and his doctors said he would be at least partially paralyzed. Either it's a miracle or he has some bad doctors.
5:00 At least nine are dead from a massive earthquake in Indonesia's Sumatra region. Get your maps of Indonesia out!
5:01 According to a new study, more and more Americans are getting into work earlier so they can get home earlier. However people also find it difficult to leave work early because of job-related issues.
5:02 Or maybe people are just going out and getting hammered when they realize they have to go home and spend time with their family. Isn't that what Steve did?
5:03 A Tennessee man became the first executed by that state by electric chair since 1960. Electric chair, that's old school! Daryl Holton had a last mean of riblets on a bun, which sounds like a McRib sandwich, mixed vegetables, bakes beans, white cake with white icing and an iced tea. That sounds delicious.
5:10 What kind of a world are we living in where someone sends a photo of a fungus-encrusted finger puppet into Brant Miller and then he talks about it with the news anchors! They should be ashamed of themselves, especially when they have a perfectly good photo of Steve's willy on file.
5:11 It's time for the Five O'Clock Taco Bell. Steve's having the Ranchero Chicken Soft taco. It's also al fresco-style.
5:12 Steve just dropped a piece of lettuce on his shirt. He hasn't eaten a meal in the last 52 years that didn't get on his shirt.
5:19 Bob and Ron are here and they're very excited that the next Dahlfins gig is in the city so they can attend. They'll be hanging backstage with Steve, living the rock and roll lifestyle.
5:20 It's long been their dream to party backstage with Steve and they're sure he won't squash that.
5:21 There's a nice VIP section they'll have access to but they won't be let near Steve. They want their chance to get handsy with Steve the way Pete did.
5:22 That show is on September 29th at the House of Blues Back Porch Stage. There are many ways to win tickets but when you hear him saying "This is the best crowd ever" during the breaks be the 10th caller to win tickets.
5:23 Tonight Bob and Ron will be at the Hunt Club which is causing Pete to laugh. That's probably because it's a fish-out-of-water situation. Steve hasn't been there in a while but it used to be the kind of place where guys like Gary Fencik went to get laid. They might require that Bob wear a collar.
5:24 At the last show at Austin's there was a reggae band playing in the front stage. That area was full of people who made a conscious effort to not come see Steve.
5:25 The club owner's son invited the band to come upstairs where they breached Steve's backstage area. They started taking all of his stuff too, he was reggae raped.
5:26 Steve protested but no one could do anything because it was the club owner's son. Jill wasn't there to throwdown and kick them out but they were all crazy. They were working every chick in site, taking all of his stuff and using his bathroom.
5:27 Steve has no idea if the band was any good either since all reggae sounds the same.
5:28 So having a Bob and Ron backstage might not be that bad is what Steve is trying to say.
5:29 This week in rock history, it's Phil May's birthday of the Pretty Things. They never really broke through in the states but they were huge in Britain. Steve's never heard of them. Maybe Steve has heard of them.
5:30 It's also the birthday of Peter Cetera this week. He was the bass player in Chicago and one of the singers. Ron prefers to think of him just as the bass player, what with the high voice.
5:31 Today in 1966 The Monkees TV show premiered on NBC. Then it went to CBS and then ABC. Steve used to love that show but he has a feeling he only watched it on NBC. Maybe the other networks had the cartoon.
5:32 Bob and Ron brought some Monkees songs in today. Drew loves The Monkees as well which makes Steve like them less. Every once in a while they have to kiss the bosses ass for job security.
5:33 Doesn't Drew liking The Monkees change the way Bob and Ron feel about them? Or are they just completely oblivious?
5:34 Song: Randy Scouse Git, The Monkees
5:37 Mickey Dolenz wrote that one and it was on the TV show. That's from the Headquarters LP. Drew Hayes didn't know that one so that should make Steve feel better.
5:38 Drew's probably never seen the movie Head either. At the very least he's never seen it stoned. Steve and Bob & Ron are cool Monkees fans and Drew is a dorky Monkees fan.
5:39 Caller Mike is wondering if there's a place where Bob and Ron list their favorite songs or if they have an iTunes playlist or something.
5:40 Maybe we should get working on a special section of Dahl.com for Bob and Ron. It will be in the show log though but still maybe a special section would be good.
5:43 Steve's having some issues with his Ben Gay music. He got a new computer and it's not set up properly. In the meantime...
5:44 Live read: Townstone Financial
5:52 Ben Gay is here and he's very tired. He's been nursing Buzz back to health which is why he's dressed like a candy striper. Ben's been giving him sponge bathes after he passes out from his medication. He also tries to take his temperature rectally but that usually wakes him up.
5:53 The Houston Astros will host the Cubs tonight and aren't they lucky? Who wouldn't want to host a Cub?
5:54 The Brewers lost to the Pirates 7-4 today. That Ben Sheets is a real cutie. Steve has no opinion on any Brewers, he's going to stay out of it.
5:55 Ben thought Steve was interested since the last time they were in the bathroom together Steve was taping his feet. Steve listens to his iPod in the bathroom because he doesn't want to hear the noises that other dudes make.
5:56 Rex Grossman responded to claims that former defensive coordinator Ron Rivera called the QB a "mental midget". Rex is a mental midget but that doesn't mean you can't be a good football player.
5:57 Ben doesn't get the Darren Sharper reference Rex is making though. Steve might be surprised to know that Ben doesn't write his own sports, Brendan does. Ben does write for his TV show which is a funny, gay take on sports.
5:58 Pete explains the Darren Sharper reference. Last year Rex and Darren got into a war of words. So maybe Rivera heard about all that.
5:59 Olin Kreutz defended his quarterback while firing back at Rivera. Ouch! If Ben were Ron Rivera he wouldn't want Olin Kreutz mad at him. He's scary as hell and hot as hell.
6:00 Cedric Benson responded to comments made by Shawn Phillips that he was "soft".
6:01 Why are we talking about all of this now? Shouldn't this have happened on Saturday? Right now the Chiefs should be talking about the Bears and vice versa.
6:02 Does Pete happen to watch that Hard Knocks show? On the last episode someone ran through their locker room nude. That was Ben. He was in Kansas City covering the Royals. He's doing a story about George Brett's hemorrhoids, 30 years after.
6:03 At a Hollywood restaurant OJ Simpson was reportedly offended when a California politician immediately ran to the bathroom to wash his hands after shaking with Simpson. That seems apocryphal.
6:04 How is OJ allowed to be at a Hollywood restaurant and Michael VIck is a social pariah?
6:13 Mark Czerniec is on the phone. He's filling in for Buzz who's still out with his kidney stone issues.
6:14 Mark fears that he's had way too much coffee today. It doesn't sound like he's had too much. Does he need to cheese maybe?
6:15 From time-to-time Steve enjoys stopping at the Mars Cheese Castle to pick up some cheese shaped like the state of Wisconsin.
6:16 Mark has noticed there are a lot of pictures of the Mars Cheese Castle on the Flickr photo hosting website. Steve doesn't see himself searching that website but he'll write it down anyway.
6:17 Mark feels that a lot of people don't know that it's called Mars Cheese Castle because the owner's name is Mario. Steve did not know that. It did seem weird since everyone knows that the moon is made of cheese, not Mars.
6:18 Steve was disappointed that there was no castle made of cheese in the Mars Cheese Castle.
6:19 Is Mark still jittery because Steve's getting jittery now. In the morning Mark makes a pot of coffee so that's 2 cups for him and two cups for Amy. Occasionally he makes another pot which is 4 more cups all for himself.
6:20 News with Mark
6:21 According to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, President Bush will be asked to change his strategy in Iraq.
6:22 Reid also vowed to block former Solicitor General Ted Olson's nomination for Attorney General. Reid said Olson is a partisan and that's the last thing we need.
6:23 Aren't you always going to have a partisan in there? The president is the one making the choices. Ted Olson is the guy who led the Florida recount so there might be some animosity.
6:24 Interestingly enough, Ted Olson is the son of Mrs. Olson from the Folger's Coffee commercials. So that ties in with Mark's coffee problems. He doesn't drink Folger's though, they have a mix of Starbuck's which is cut with the 8 O'Clock.
6:25 Steve doesn't know what kind of coffee he uses at the house but if he was buying it he'd get that Fog Lifter stuff. He doesn't know who makes it though but it seems to have extra caffeine.
6:26 Steve's not really that finicky about coffee though. When he goes to Starbuck's he just gets the coffee he needs and maybe buys a CD or a lemon square. He does like their coffee, maybe he should buy some beans.
6:27 Barack Obama is calling for an immediate withdrawal of all combat troops from Iraq. Is this just a way to get himself in the paper again? He'll probably get in trouble with the Republicans now, they'll call him unpatriotic. Didn't he say the same thing a few months ago?
6:28 A few months ago Obama was talking about nuking Afghanistan. That's fine with Steve too. Look at Japan. We haven't had a problem with them since we dropped the bombs. Steve has a Japanese friend that he goes to Bears games with!
6:29 The CTA has escaped their Doomsday Scenario for the time being. They've accepted a $24 million bail out from the state.
6:30 Rock legends Led Zeppelin announced a one-off reunion concert today. That's just one show, not an entire tour. It might be a British term that's creeped into Mark's copy somehow. It's probably because he's highfalutin.
6:31 Jason Bonham will be wielding the drumsticks for Led Zeppelin and the show will be in honor of Atlantic Record founder Ahmet Ertegan.
6:32 That'll probably be available on pay-per-view, Steve will have Mark over to the house to watch in on HD in surround sound.
6:33 Song Remains the Same is still one of Steve's favorite movies and not for the concert footage. There are some really bizarre vignettes in between the music, like Jimmy Page walking around dressed as a sorcerer.
6:34 As it turns out Mark was at a somewhat famous Led Zeppelin show at the Chicago Stadium in 1977. After three songs the show was cancelled because Jimmy Page had "stomach flu".
6:35 The show was supposed to be rescheduled but then Robert Plant's son died and the band broke up.
6:43 If you want a good laugh check out Song Remains the Same. The concert footage is pretty good but in between that each band member has his own little fantasy film.
6:44 And it's the 70s so everyone is totally out of their minds. They could just release the fantasy portions as some sort of comedy and win all sorts of awards.
6:45 Song: Impossible Germany, Wilco
6:51 That's some good guitar work on that song. Wilco's playing across the street tonight at the Pritzker Pavilion. Dr. Dog is opening up for them and they're probably playing right now.
6:52 And for you Zeppelin fans out there, the Song Remains the Same is being released on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray on November 20th.
6:59 Buzz gets his shunt out tomorrow and he could be here for the show. A dude called in earlier and said that it can be an upsetting process because they have to go back in for it. So we'll see what happens.
7:00 Whatever it is, Steve hopes it goes well. He can understand why you'd want to take a few days off after having someone poke around in your area.
7:01 The word shunt is very harsh, it sounds painful. Steve's going to continue the process of inventing a shunt made of sugar that dissolves on it's own. Steve's calling it a Sugar Shunt, it's genius.
