2:01 Stan was wondering if Steve was hamstrung by any traffic issues today. Barack, Hillary and John Edwards are all in town.
2:02 Steve cruised right in but he got here around 11:30. Stan's wondering if he had a meeting or something. Is Stan Steve's lawyer?
2:03 Stan would like to see Steve cruising the halls more often. He might be surprised to see how much stuff there is around here about him.
2:04 For a while there were some photos missing on the walls but they were recently replaced by posters of Steve. Maybe Stan could give Steve a tour of the station.
2:05 It's cool to have your posters up there but how cool would Steve look if he was walking around looking at them?
2:06 Stan likes to get around the office, like he's working at State Farm Insurance or something.
2:07 It's weird when Stan mentions something that one of the sales people said and Terry doesn't even know who they are. Sounds like Stan is just stalking all of them.
2:08 Stan knows everything about all the sales people, their names, where they're from. Steve's been doing this for a while and it doesn't matter if you do or don't know the sales people. In fact if you know them then they could get you to do stuff you don't want to do.
2:09 Earlier today Stan and Terry were talking about how if the Cubs get into the playoffs all of the first round games will be on cable. Then Stan pointed out that Lindsay from sales doesn't have cable. How does he even know that? Does he also pose as a fake Comcast worker?
2:10 Stan was having a discussion with Lindsay about microwave popcorn and he found out she doesn't have a microwave. She prefers making popcorn in a Dutch oven. Since Stan is black he likes his popcorn microwaved right? It seems like the black people really like the microwave popcorn.
2:11 Stan actually prefers the Dutch oven method as well. Of course he's the exception to the rule. Terry prefers microwave popcorn.
2:12 Stan gets in at 9:00 AM everyday even though the show doesn't start until 11:00. It sounds like he's doing a lot of fake busy work. It's like Garry getting a car to take him to WGN on Thursday so he can read the paper before his show.
2:13 Stan and Terry have a ton of people working on their show, can't someone else do all that stuff for them? Today there were only 2 people out there, Bonnie and some kid.
2:14 Stan and Terry have a thousand people working on their show and the only thing they do is move those cardboard cut-outs back and forth.
2:15 Buzz is wondering what Stan does here in the morning that he can't do at home. He can't mind rape sales girls in their cubicles at home.
2:16 Stan takes Jeffrey to school in the morning and he can't go home so he just comes down here. That sounds like what happened to Garry. Somehow he got the job of taking his daughter to school when he wasn't working. Stan probably got that job after he lost his job at Johnson Controls.
2:17 Stan and Terry have so many cardboard cut-outs. Has Buzz seen them coming back and forth? It seems like they only have 3 of them in the studio at one time.
2:18 The cut-outs used to be left in there but then Matt and Brendan kidnapped the Katarina Witt cut-out. Stan thought they'd vandalized it but they didn't.
2:19 Stan was really mad about it and he was threatening payback, like breaking up the DePaul graduation ceremony.
2:20 There was some disruption at the ceremony though. Some kids were protesting the fact that some professor wasn't getting tenure.
2:21 Matt didn't join in but he said the professor was pretty good. He said something politically incorrect about Jewish people and the Holocaust, even though he's Jewish.
2:22 Steve doesn't want to keep talking about this because then the other shoe will drop and he and Buzz will get in trouble.
2:23 Yesterday at Columbia University the Iranian president actually backed off his previous statement about the Holocaust not being real. Then he said there were no homosexuals in Iran.
2:24 Steve doesn't get why Columbia invited the guy to speak at the school and then their President had to get up and be a bad-ass.
2:25 Steve did not run into any traffic this morning but the Presidential candidates are in town. Buzz's commute was very swift as well. Buzz's wife was out walking and they saw Matt Dahl walking his dog.
2:26 Steve has a feeling he'll end up taking care of that dog since he also ended up with the hamster before Stephanie took it. The dog was at Steve's house on Saturday because Matt had a personal appearance. He couldn't even go out in his own backyard because the dog jumps on you.
2:27 Matt is the least responsible person Steve knows and yet he just got a dog. Steve was against it but it doesn't matter.
2:28 Steve was in New York a few years ago when the UN was in session and it's really quite terrible. All of these streets were shut down because any time a diplomat goes somewhere they have to shut down.
2:29 That was in 2001, during the World Series. Steve was there with Dan Falato and they were supposed to go to the games but didn't. Steve just wanted to go to New York to prove he wasn't scared to go there. He didn't really feel like going all the way out to Yankee Stadium.
2:30 Steve broadcasted from the WFAN studios one day and then from Dan's room the other two days. They even had some guests up like Anthony Bourdain and Richard Lewis.
2:31 Anthony has subsequently mentioned it but he was afraid when he first came up there because it was just two guys in a hotel room with a room service cart. Steve kept saying his last name wrong but Anthony was too afraid to say anything.
2:32 Anthony was relieved when Richard Lewis showed up because then he realized Steve was actually broadcasting a show.
2:33 Steve remembers that he stayed in the hotel room where Lerner & Loew wrote Oklahoma. It was commemorated on a plaque in the room. God knows what else they did there.
2:34 Steve had a meeting to go to with Mel Karmazin and John Sykes. First he and Dan went to get a corned beef sandwich at the deli that's in When Harry Met Sally. When they got back in the car they couldn't get to the CBS building because of the traffic. It took them 3 hours to get across town.
2:35 It's kind of frustrating to go get a sandwich which causes you to be late to a meeting with the top two guys in the company. Steve went with the truth on that one which was probably a good idea.
2:36 When they finally got to the airport their driver told Steve that he could have just gotten on the subway. He wanted to kill the guy. Also, Steve didn't want to even go to that deli but he had to stifle that.
2:37 Steve would have rather gone to the Carnegie Deli. And just a tip for people who go to New York, there's a reason why the deli across the street is empty. It's just not that good. Steve went there one night and his sandwich wasn't good but he did meet a nice young Russian man who was his waiter.
2:38 That traffic was brutal though. A lot of people who live in New York leave town when the UN is in session because of how bad the traffic is.
2:39 The only thing about the Carnegie is that you have to wait. Steve doesn't like to wait and he doesn't like the aggressive nature of the place. He also doesn't like that you can't bribe your way to the front of the line. But when the sandwich is $60 who's going to want a $20 from Steve?
2:40 Caller John wanted to recommend the pastrami at Katz's, the deli in When Harry Met Sally. Steve might have gotten a half pastrami/half corned beef. But again he had to stifle all this around Dan.
2:46 If you want Steve's opinion, Katz's is not the best deli in New York. You want to stick with your midtown delis like Carnegie.
2:47 Manny's in Chicago is pretty close to a New York deli, as is Eleven City Diner. Steve can't have another sandwich from there today though. He can't be eating a doctored sandwich when Buzz has a full one.
2:48 Steve weighed himself today and it wasn't pretty. Between going out to dinner on Saturday and then the Bears game on Sunday it was a complete nightmare.
2:49 That being said Eleven City Diner has a great pastrami. There's also Chalfin's up on Chestnut. That's where Steve used to get his Reuben sandwich from, it was a perfect hangover food. As Mancow once pointed out, Steve had a guy who's only job was to get him sandwiches.
2:50 Actually Stony got Steve the sandwiches and was responsible for everything that lead up to Steve needing the sandwich the night before.
2:51 Of course the worst corned beef sandwich Steve ever had was at Mrs. O'Leary's. Steve and Garry had just been fired from The Loop and they met with the WMET program director about getting a job there.
2:52 It was Steve, Garry, Brian Blatt (who worked for Steve) and the program director. Buzz remembers waiting in his apartment during that lunch for word from Brian about what was going on. Buzz was still at The Loop but he was ready to move on with Steve and Garry.
2:53 Everyone had a corned beef sandwich and a drink which cost $4. Steve paid the $16 tab and then the guy from WMET said he wasn't going to hire Steve and Garry. He thought the whole thing was a publicity stunt.
2:54 Then they went to WLS for less money and Buzz was out of the equation. Steve took less money just so Garry could get paid what he was making at The Loop.
2:55 WMET did fail so that was sort of reward for Steve taking less money. Garry might go for that same effect when he doesn't work for 3 years but he might not have the right set-up. It's a very trick high-wire act.
2:56 That lunch was very irritating though because Steve had to pay and he didn't have a job. To this day he has no idea what that guy was thinking. How would that be a good publicity stunt, even if it was. If they hired Steve and Garry and they were on WMET, people would tune in to hear it. Plus if you sign them to a contract, they can't get out of it. The publicity stunt defense won't work in court.
2:57 That was one of the weirder days in Steve's life because it seemed so simple and easy and it would be successful.
2:58 So that was the worst corned beef sandwich Steve ever had. It was a bad sandwich at a bad meeting and it cost him $16.
3:03 It wasn't Stony's only job to get Steve a sandwich but it was an important one. And even if it was, so what? What's the point of being in showbiz if you don't have someone to go get you a sandwich.
3:04 Tommy Skillethead is checking in with some weather. The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lake County in Illinois until 4:00 PM.
3:05 Thunderstorms will be near Third Lake, Lindenhurst, Libertyville and Gurnee at 3:05. That's right now, hope you're enjoying it!
3:06 There are two warnings in effect right now. Another one for Northern Cook and Southeastern Lake Counties is in effect until 3:30.
3:07 The storm will be near Riverwoods and Bannockburn by 2:55 PM. Oops. Glencoe and Winnetka just got the storm at 3:05, how did they enjoy it? It's probably going out of the lake right now.
3:08 It's supposed to be in the low 70s tomorrow and it's in the 80s now. A temperature drop like that means storms. Every time the temperature changes like that you can count on storms. That's really all you have to know.
3:09 Song: New York Minute, Don Henley
3:15 Stan said earlier that we're supposed to have traffic in the city because John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are in town. Do they really shut down roads because Presidential candidates are in town?
3:16 Stan would be working off of bad information anyway, you never know with him. The worst traffic Steve has ever been in was in LA.
3:17 Steve was out there on the weekend before Martin Luther King Day. Jeff Schwartz used to give Steve those days off because he didn't want to come in either.
3:18 Steve was out in LA to attend a meeting for the Disco Demolition movie at a big agency, maybe CAA. It was Steve, Bob Teitel and Bob Odenkirk plus the late, great Jim Zulevic. Bernie Brillstein was also there so it was a big meeting and Steve wanted to be there.
3:19 Really the only reason Steve is there is for the meeting which is on a Tuesday, so he's taking 2 days off for this trip. Bob Teitel's assistant got the time of the meeting wrong by an hour. Steve was told it was at 10:30 and at 9:00 AM the assistant called to tell him the meeting was at 9:30.
3:20 Steve was in Burbank and on a perfect day he might be able to get to Beverly Hills in a half-hour. Steve had two options, Laurel Canyon or Ventura Highway to the San Diego Freeway.
3:21 Steve decided to go to the San Diego Freeway which was a good option because Laurel was shut down. It was one of those days when everything kept getting further away from you.
3:22 Steve was going to get into the carpool lane because it was empty and no one was in it. All the while, the meeting is going on without him. By 10:15 he was looking for parking but couldn't find any. By the time Steve got there it was essentially over.
3:23 Steve demanded that Bob's assistant get fired but Bob took his side on it. Jim Zulevic did tell Steve that it was good he wasn't there because one of the CAA people pitched Will Smith for the Steve role.
3:24 Steve did get to go out to lunch with Bernie Brillstein who got ketchup and mustard on his shirt. He didn't care because he only wears t-shirts. It was still frustrating because the only reason he went to LA was the meeting.
3:25 So that was an irritating trip and then he got there and found out someone suggested Will Smith. 3 years later the movie still hasn't been made. It hasn't helped that Bob Odenkirk's last two movies tanked. Hollywood is a very reactionary town.
3:26 Steve doesn't know what's going on with the Disco Demolition movie but he is lighting up the silver screen in Jeff Garlin's new movie I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With.
3:27 Tommy Skillethead is back, he has a weather update. The NWS has issued a fresh severe thunderstorm warning for West Central Cook county and Southeastern Dupage county
3:28 The storms are capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. That's windy. Who's walking down the streets of the city, smiling at everybody she sees?
3:32 Live read: Gierczyk Properties
3:33 There's another weather report coming in. Is this going to be one of those days when Steve has to keep doing these? He was so glad to be off that one week when the hurricane came up here looking for Buzz.
3:34 Tommy can't believe Steve is complaining about having to do his job. The radio station is licensed for the public's interest.
3:35 Severe thunderstorms will be near Tinley Park, University Park and Mokena right now.
3:36 The storms will near Oak Forest, Steger, Park Forest and Olympia Fields by 3:40.
3:37 At 3:45 the storms will hit Markham and Phoenix. By the time this storm gets to Phoenix.
3:38 You can pretty much look up in the sky and know there's a bad storm coming. Buzz will seek shelter in Stan and Terry's office during the breaks, there are no windows in there. Is that because they're black?
3:39 Tommy's office doesn't have windows either, it's more like a bunker. Everything at WGN is like that because the Bozo studios are so big.
3:47 Mark Schanowski from Comcast Sportsnet is on the phone. Steve just saw Tommie Harris is going to be out for at least a month.
3:48 Tommie has a sprained knee ligament which is usually a month. But coming off the hamstring injury you have to wonder how effective he'll be when he comes back. It's all bad news coming out of Sunday.
3:49 Briggs and Vasher could also be out on Sunday. The game could get out of control if the Lions defense plays really well.
3:50 Mark is anticipating that Griese will be the starter on Sunday and for a long time. Once you make the change you have to give him at least 4 games to see what he can do. Even if he stinks it up he'll probably be around at least until the bye week.
3:51 If that doesn't work you have two weeks to figure out if you should go back to Rex or go with Orton. Although once they sit Rex they're pretty much saying he's not the QB of the future.
3:52 Griese's track record in the NFL shows that he's a slightly above-average QB. It's not like the offense is suddenly going to come alive.
3:53 What the hell happened to this team? In the pre-season they were talking about all the offensive weapons they had. This is the perfect doomsday scenarios in the NFL.
3:54 Mark still thinks the Bears can go 10-6 and get into the playoffs. If they can just hold on through these injuries they should be OK.
3:55 Lovie had the look of someone who was really mad that the defense was so banged up because of idiot Rex Grossman and the offense.
3:56 That's probably why we're going to see Griese start next week. He doesn't have the arm strength of Rex Grossman though so you're not going to see him go to the deep option.
3:57 Steve thinks maybe Griese has been working on his arm strength. Maybe he's in the backyard with the tire and his dad yelling at him.
3:58 Buzz thinks that Lovie has been reluctant to go with someone else because he knows it'll mean the end. What's with Buzz and Mark? They're so negative. Steve's got a small fortune invested in this team!
3:59 Luckily the Cubs are doing pretty good right now. Comcast doesn't have the Cubs on tonight, they have the Sox. Lucky them!
4:00 Before the season it seemed like tonight would be a good game for Comcast to have. Plus this weekend against the Tigers, everyone thought they'd be fighting to get into the playoffs.
4:01 The Cubs are on Comcast tomorrow as well as Friday and Sunday. Hopefully they can get it done Friday and scratch Lilly and Zambrano from their last two starts so they're fresh for the playoffs.
4:02 Everything is coming up Steve Dahl, sports-wise right now. It's not quite the same as having your team in it but Steve's not against watching it.
4:03 Steve thinks everyone on the Bears will play better. At this point everyone else has to know that Rex isn't the future. It must be hard to play at 100% when you know that.
4:09 Rex Grossman, it was nice knowing ya! It's hard for Buzz to put this behind him after 3 years of everyone talking about him.
4:10 Steve can't believe everyone was stupid enough to believe in him. Steve met him when he first came to town, at The Gap on Michigan Avenue. He's the size of Pat Dahl which is not impressive.
4:11 Although Steve saw Tony Romo throw out the first pitch at a Sox game earlier this year. He didn't seen too impressive either but he was slightly taller and had a certain air about him.
4:12 Hopefully the Bears know what they're doing though. Things could go in the tank very quickly. Then all we'll care about is what Steve at the game. He'll have to eat more too because he'll be depressed. Is that what we want to look forward to?
4:13 Steve likes Mark Schanowski but he's a sports guy. Steve gets tired of hearing that arm strength stuff. Brian Griese played at Michigan and then on 3 or 4 NFL teams.
4:14 It seems like if there's a guy running, Griese can throw it to the guy and it'll get there. In most cases the guy is not going to go so far that you can't get it to him. Arm strength seems like a sports anchor crutch.
4:15 That said, let's say you're right handed and running to your right and then throwing back across the field the strength might come into play.
4:16 Buzz remembers one pass that Doug Flutie threw that beat the University of Miami, that was the Hail Mary. People always said he never had the arm strength either.
4:17 People said Jim McMahon didn't have arm strength either. It just seems like it's overrated. Really what you need is to be smart.
4:18 Buzz feels bad for Rex though. Maybe he should have him over for dinner. He's a Gator, doesn't Buzz remember that? Brian Griese is the son of Bob Griese who gave Buzz is perfect season for Miami.
4:19 Caller Brian wanted to point out that people said Joe Montana didn't have arm strength either and he did alright. You just have to manage the team properly. Brian thinks Steve could do that for the Bears.
4:20 Steve gets that better arm strength gets the ball there faster and with less arc but it's still overrated. What you need is a guy who can play the position.
4:24 Steve can't take another weekend of thinking that Rex will rise to the challenge because he can't. And who knows, maybe he'll be benched for 4 games and then come back and be great.
4:25 Maybe it'll be like that game where McMahon came off the bench and threw 4 TDs against Minnesota in '85. Steve was there on Sunday though and he could tell that Rex was not the guy. He just doesn't have it together.
4:26 Headlines with Buzz
4:27 Polygamist cult leader Warren Jeffs has been found guilty of being an accomplice to the rape of a 14-year old by her 19-year old cousin. What about the polygamy, is he just going to skate on that?
4:28 On paper polygamy seems good but when you see a show like Big Love you realize it's just 3 times the problems.
4:29 Congress has voted to tighten sanctions on Iran and recognize the Iranian army as a terrorist organization. Meanwhile in Iran the state radio station is calling the Columbia University president's introduction of their President "shameful".
4:30 The Supreme Court will decide if lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment. What's the good way to execute someone? You can go down to Florida and sit in Old Sparky, that doesn't seem good. Putting someone to death is cruel and unusual, no matter how you do it.
4:31 Is lethal injection the same as putting a dog to sleep? Because when you put a dog down they go right to sleep. It seems like Buzz always hears about a lot of other stuff going on during a lethal injection. You'd think with all the drugs we have they'd be able to prevent that.
4:32 A police helicopter has discovered a giant swastika carved into a New Jersey cornfield. It's probably just a corn maze, a Nazi corn maze.
4:33 Keifer Sutherland was busted for a DUI but he could do some time because it's not his first run-in with the law. Steve would like to see him blow a .24 on the breathalyzer but that's pretty high.
4:34 Three teenagers from Valparaiso were arrested overnight for blowing up an abandoned washing machine. Two of the teens were found in possession of marijuana too.
4:35 Ohio State's third string quarterback has been busted for soliciting a prostitute. What's the point of playing college football if you can't get laid at will? That's really going to mess up recruiting for Ohio State.
4:36 As a football player you shouldn't even entertain that option. Maybe the cut-off is second string though.
4:37 Caller Gary has some info about putting dogs to sleep. Vets use something that's more up-to-date than what they use to kill people. Dogs are put down more humanely than people.
4:38 They must be using something that people don't want to give to prisoners. They probably don't want people getting high before they die. Gary blames Nancy Reagan. So does Steve.
4:39 One of Steve's dogs was put to sleep and it was very peaceful. Buzz's cat died in his arms being put to sleep.
4:45 Whoopi Goldberg offered a pretty handy way to pronounce Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's name on The View this morning. Whoopi looks like an unattractive Adrian Peterson.
4:46 Song: Ventura Highway, America
4:48 Steve was talking about Ventura Highway earlier when he was talking about being late for meetings.
4:49 Dave Warwack was fired by the Fox River School District today. Warwack refused to go back to the classroom until the school went vegan for their lunch menus
4:50 School board president Pat Hughes said that the school would not go vegan at this time.
4:51 Warwack converted his art classes to classes on veganism and animal rights and told students not to tell parents or other teachers what he was doing.
4:52 Steve heard the guy on WBBM-AM this morning and he said he was going to take this all the way to the Supreme Court and that it would cost the school a lot of money.
4:53 It doesn't seem like he really cares about the kids if he's willing to do something that could cost the school so much money.
4:54 Is it really a Supreme Court issue when you don't show up for your job and they fire you? It's not really a free speech issue either, speech isn't free in schools.
4:55 PETA will probably pay for his lawyer though. Steve has never seen what he looks like but he imagines he looks like a 70's guy.
5:02 That's the Warwack right there letting loose in the school board meeting. Still he was unable to convince anyone to go vegan in the school cafeteria.
5:03 In commemoration of that Steve's going to have a Taco Bell original taco. Buzz has one too because it's Tuesday.
5:04 Caller Mary was calling about the art teacher. She saw him on the news last night and he was wearing a doctor's smock that was all tye-dyed. He also had a yellow ribbon around his neck.
5:05 Steve hit it right on the head that he was a 70's dude.
5:06 Buzz checked out some of Warwack's art and he draws a lot of fish. He used to be a fishing guide but now they're probably his friends. Steve saw a painting called Funeral For My Puppy.
5:07 Steve doesn't care what people eat. Good luck trying to tell him what to eat. He just had dairy and meat and he doesn't care. So did Buzz. He could go for another one actually.
5:08 Steve thinks he might have enough stuff saved up for a good Mailbag. Let's see if he does.
5:09 Just a reminder we're still giving away tickets to the Dahlfins show this Saturday. When you hear Steve talking to the Austin's crowd be the 10th caller.
5:10 Also, Bob and Ron will be at Butch McGuire's from 10:00-midnight tomorrow and Matt and Brendan will be at PJ Clarke's on Thursday. Aren't those the places where Pete and The Catman fire things up?
5:11 Pete only goes to Butch McGuire's during the holiday season to look at the decorations and take advantage of the girls in the sweater dresses drinking Merlot.
5:12 Pete already alerted Catman to the PJ Clarke's appearance though. Right now he's figuring out what to wear. That seems sort of weird.
5:13 Back to the Mailbag. Steve got an email from this person a few months ago that he doesn't remember. Gary is working in Hong Kong and now his entire office of British and Australian expats are hooked on the show.
5:14 Steve sent him an email back that he'd try to give them a shout-out. Gary said the office would freak but that Steve shouldn't go out of his way. Steve told him he'd give them a shout-out during the mailbag. Steve has a little penpal now.
5:15 Gary then mentioned that one of the girls in the office, a local girl from Hong Kong has taken a liking to Buzz's voice. It's the fanbase he's always dreamed of in Asia. Or is that Steve's dream?
5:16 The girl keeps asking Gary if she knows Buzz, apparently not realizing how big Hong Kong is.
5:17 Yesterday you might recall that Steve was blaming Hilgie for the Bears missing out on Tony Romo. According to this emailer the Bears were very informed about him. The emailer's daughter was on the pom squad when Romo was there. The first time Steve read the email he thought it said porn squad. What a great college this is.
5:18 The emailer saw Romo play a lot at EIU and recognized he could be a Bret Favre in the making. He even called The Score to say that several times, including when Angelo was on the show. Angelo said they had scouts at EIU but determined Romo wasn't NFL-ready. The emailer feels vindicated but disappointed.
5:19 Buzz thinks that eventually Chris Leak will be our answer. He's a Gator but he took them to the National Championship. Steve thinks Rex benefited from Steve Spurrier and his dad pushing him in college. They don't do the Great Santini thing in the NFL.
5:25 Tony Romo seems like a much smarter QB than Rex. Steve's going to close up the mailbag.
5:26 Live read: Balance for Life
5:28 Steve and Garry Meier will be appearing at the Park West on Friday for A Night of 1000 Noogies, the Gilda's Club charity. The concept is pairing people up like The Hungry Hound and Amanda Puck and the Second City people ask them stuff and then do an improv based on that.
5:29 That seems a little awkward. Steve will probably punch the fat, sloppy guy making fun of him. There's always a fat, sloppy guy in Second City. The fat guy can be Steve in the past if they want to do some sort of time travel thing.
5:30 Tim Kazurinsky is paired up with someone and then celebrity Jen Schefft is paired up with the girl who did The Bachelorette in Great Britain. So it's two people Buzz has never heard of.
5:31 Steve won't be there until 8:00 and he's staying until 9:30 because that's when the Hungry Hound has to leave. Steve's not staying in the VIP area to watch the show either. It seems weird for people in the show to stay there and watch the rest of it.
5:32 Tickets are $125 for VIP seating and that includes open bar and a post-show meet and greet with everyone except The Hungry Hound who won't be there.
5:33 It's $75 for open bar and preferred seating. Tickets are still available by calling (312)
5:34 Steve and Garry will also be on the WGN morning news at 6:50 AM on Thursday. Drew wanted them to stay at his house because he's close to their studios.
5:35 Drew wants a Steve and Garry three-way in the worst way. Steve's ready to give it to him in the worst way too but he's not sure what Garry would do. It'll be the last three-way of Drew's life and probably the first one.
5:36 Steve did say that he would stay over at Drew's if he could nail his wife. Drew said OK but he would want to watch. That's pretty freaky and also inappropriate. It was inappropriate for Steve to say it in the first place but then Drew said he'd watch.
5:37 Steve has demanded a helicopter but the channel 9 copter isn't flying because the traffic girl is pregnant. Steve's pretty sure her name is Valerie Warner. She's just the reporter, not the pilot.
5:38 Channel 9 won't provide their copter but if Steve had a copter he could use their helipad. He doesn't have a copter but he does have a helipad. He can't see himself wanting to rent a copter just to go to WGN to promote a charity gig.
5:39 Maybe Steve will look into it. The way TV works he could get there at 6:45, go on TV and then leave right away. It could take less than an hour. Steve did see an email today saying he was cleared to land there. If necessary he'll deliver an organ while he's up there. He is an organ donor it seems like that should get him at least one free ride on the helicopter.
5:44 Steve can Garry will probably be on for about 6 minutes on Thursday so it's not that big of a deal. Buzz thinks 6 minutes is a lot of TV.
5:45 There's a place on the WGN website where people can submit questions to ask Steve and Garry. Steve put it in his blog so there are more than there were earlier.
5:46 Bruce Wolf, who's very bitter posted this: "if you got back together, wouldn't it be like lennon and mccartney getting back together, that is, one is dead and the other makes awful music even starbucks probably doesn't want to sell anymore?"
5:47 Bruce recently contacted Steve about partnering up and told him that his wife listens to the show and says it's unlistenable. That seems like a weird way to start off the conversation.
5:48 Steve just told Bruce that he was happy with how the show was going but that maybe he should talk to Drew. Steve didn't bring up Bruce's failed 4:30 AM show or being kicked off of Brandmeier's show did he?
5:49 Steve assumes that it was Bruce who posted the comment. He put it in his blog today and so far no one has corrected him.
5:50 There are some other good questions on here. There are a few Steve doesn't really want to answer though. "If CBS offered the two of you $4 million a year to do a show together, but they insisted on calling it 'Garry & Steve,' would you do it?"
5:51 CBS would never do that because they would pay for Steve and Garry not Garry and Steve.
5:52 There's a question about The Loop powerhouse of the 1980's, wondering if Steve and Garry ever see that happening again. At the time no one knew it was happening at the time.
5:53 Steve thinks it's sort of happening here right now. It happens organically too and it would be more like that if Opie and Anthony were a little more involved here.
5:54 One guy wants to hire Steve and Garry as human serving tables, like in a high-end sushi restaurant, for his daughters Bat Mitzvah in 2014. That's fine with Steve. If you can handle it, he can handle it. Steve Dahl, now with handy pop-up serving tray.
6:00 How's Buzz's newscast coming along? Steve doesn't have his audio yet so he assumes he's not ready, unless his news features Mark DeRosa and Jeff Van Gundy.
6:01 Buzz actually doesn't have any audio for the news. Can we at least play the audio of the middle school art teacher?
6:02 Live read: Townstone Financial
6:03 David doesn't even proofread these things any more, he's too busy focusing on the jokes. It starts off with some guy named Billy and them there's some guy named Rusty. Who's Rusty?!
6:04 David sends these things to Steve like they're the Ten Commandments and he doesn't even proofread. Steve did meet with some jeweler friends of David's who are going to start advertising so he is doing good stuff out there.
6:05 And now David is on the phone. Yesterday's live read featured Rusty and David forgot to change it. So are these live reads all based on a template?
6:06 Buzz is wondering if David made his phone calls of atonement during Yom Kippur. It's not AA Buzz.
6:07 Buzz has gotten several calls of atonement from Jewish friends on Yom Kippur. Steve has never received one.
6:08 Jeff apologizes to him but that's all the time, in between tell Steve how much he loves him.
6:09 Steve saw Jeff today at the meeting with the jewelry guys. David gets all his stuff form him.
6:10 Buzz actually got one phone call from a Jewish guy who was atoning but he's not saying who it was. It was just routine stuff too. Buzz is sure the guy isn't in AA or NA right?
6:11 Was it Lenny Pincus apologizing for not taking Buzz's call that one time? He was busy in a recording session.
6:12 Actually Lenny is Irish and that's not even his real name. He's a musician and he used to do the Saturday night show with Buzz. And yet he wouldn't take Buzz's call?
6:13 Buzz actually confronted Lenny about him not taking his call.
6:14 Steve's going to take a break and Buzz is going to get some audio for the news.
6:18 First off, Yom Kippur is commemorated with a festive meal, giving of charity and the visiting of others to seek or give forgiveness. So Steve should be expecting a call from Bruce Wolf next Yom Kippur.
6:19 Breaking news from NBC, Brian Griese will start for the Bears on Sunday against the Lions. It's in the Tribune and the Sun-Times but no one is citing their source.
6:20 It's probably just easier to leak it to the press first before you make the official announcement.
6:21 Now Buzz feels sorry for the little fellar, even though he's a former Gator. He had every opportunity to excel though and he didn't.
6:22 If it's in both papers it's probably going to happen. They'll run that out to the papers and then deny it and then announce it. Buzz is going to have Rex over for beignets on Saturday.
6:23 Maybe Buzz can go over the Xs and Os with him. He's got his reads backwards, that's the problem. Then the light will come on!
6:24 News with Buzz
6:25 Warren Jeffs has been found guilty of 2 counts of accomplice to rape. He now faces 5 years to life in prison.
6:26 A Lebanese-born Swedish citizen faces charges for attempting to start a terrorist camp in Oregon.
6:27 Testifying in front of Congress today veterans of the first Gulf War say the government is not doing enough for them. However the government has been unable to cite a specific syndrome for their problems.
6:28 How about they got sent over to the Middle East to kill people and that messed them up?
6:29 Cuba's UN ambassador walked out of a session today after President Bush said that the reign of a cruel dictator in Havana is almost over.
6:30 8 more cases of Ebola have been identified in the Congo. It's the first major resurgence of Ebola in years.
6:31 Keifer Sutherland has been arrested on DUI charges. He was pulled over for making an illegal u-turn and tested a twice the legal blood-alcohol limit.
6:32 Authorities are investigating a giant swastika carved into a New Jersey cornfield. That reminds Steve of the idea he and Buzz had for the Swa-stick-up air freshener. As it turns out it's really hard to disassociate the swastika with the Nazis.
6:33 Vegan teacher Dave Warwack was fired by Fox River Grove Middle School after he refused to return to work. Warwack wanted the school to go vegan in their cafeteria.
6:41 Don't forget, Bob and Ron are at Butch McGuire's tomorrow from 10:00-midnight giving away Dahlfins tickets. Matt and Brendan are at PJ Clarke's on Thursday.
6:42 Those are the best ways to get tickets. In the past you could probably email Steve but the Back Porch Stage is a smaller venue.
6:43 So that gig is Saturday and Friday is the Gilda's Club thing. Then on Sunday Steve is going to watch Brian Griese and the Bears take on the Lions.
6:44 Did Buzz watch any new shows last night? He recorded Journeyman and watched Heroes.
6:45 Buzz is also still watching Prison Break even though he and his wife decided they weren't watching any more. He's very intrigued by the prison guard groveling around the prison yard.
6:46 Earlier Steve said he had audio of Mark DeRosa and Jeff Van Gundy but it's actually Mike Gundy, coach of Oklahoma State.
6:47 Mike Gundy said in a post-game press conference on Saturday that college athletes should be spared criticism.
6:48 Gundy also asked columnist Jenni Carlson if she had any kids. When she said she didn't the coach said she wouldn't know what it's like to have them publicly ridiculed.
6:49 Steve would like to see the original article from the Oklahoman that this guy is talking about.
6:50 Pete has the entire press conference. Steve loves when they really start to go off.
6:52 How much longer is this thing?
7:00 The only new TV Steve watched last night was Journeyman and it was good. He likes a good time travel show and San Francisco looked good.
7:01 Steve never really watched Quantum Leap. Journeyman seemed a little better written, along the lines of Heroes.
7:02 Matt taped Journeyman but didn't get around to watching it. He did watch Chuck and he wasn't impressed.
7:03 Brendan's looking for an explanation of what Journeyman is. Steve has to explain TV shows now? Google it!
