2:01 Stan wanted to ask Steve a question about Malibu and the Santa Ana Winds. How did everything catch on fire?
2:02 The Santa Ana Winds are really hot, like 80º or 90º. They're also strong. The heat might not start the fires but it doesn't help when they get going.
2:03 There's a dude on CNN who looks just like Steve's brother. Maybe it is his brother. It looks and sounds just like him.
2:04 The winds knock down power lines and they could turn a spark into a larger fire. They are dry winds so they probably don't help put the fire out.
2:05 California is basically a desert no matter what anyone else says. Stan saw Chinatown right? It's a well-irrigated desert. By the end of the summer it's very dry out there.
2:06 Stan was looking at aerial shots on all these houses and he couldn't believe how much they cost compared to how little property there is. It's Malibu though, if you're on the ocean you own the beach. That's the trade-off.
2:07 Why does Stan care about this anyway? Is he getting ready to buy something in Laguna? Doesn't he have more important stuff to worry about?
2:08 Steve doesn't know for sure but if you can have a private beach in Malibu the fact that no one can park in the sand with a towel and a cooler keeps it private Steve's not sure how far out into the water the property extends, maybe someone can call in if you're going to carry on with this. Stan's going to look it up online. Maybe Stan should have been looking up all this stuff online during a break. A lot of people don't know that maritime law and maritime real estate is Steve's specialty. Just last
2:10 Caller Mike has some info for Stan. Steve is sorry Buzz has to be here for this. In California, the property line ends at the high tide line. Stan feels better about this now.
2:11 Why does Stan think that property costs so much money? It's so people like him can't set up in front of your house with their picnic basket.
2:12 Caller RIck sounds like he's setting up a haunted house. He's actually on a cheap Bluetooth headset.
2:13 When they chartered the city of Chicago Montgomery Ward was insistent that the beach front is part of the city.
2:14 You can still probably have private beaches up on the North Shore but no one up there has every invited Steve over to their house.
2:20 The weirdest thing about that last segment is that Bonnie had all the information. She brought it into Steve instead of giving it to Stan and Terry. Buzz thinks she enjoys watching them flop around.
2:21 It was also a violation of Steve's air space, did she have proper clearance? Steve has 20 pages of information here, he needs it summarized. For Stan it would just be scratching the surface though.
2:22 Steve doesn't really care about any of this. Out in California you have fires and earthquakes. Every place has problems. We have tornados and cold weather.
2:23 Steve heard that Buzz had some problems getting into the building today. He actually just used someone else's pass to get in.
2:24 Buzz lost his wallet over the weekend, or maybe it was stolen. He left his wallet at the refreshment stand of the River East theater. 2 hours later he returned and it was gone. That's lost, not stolen.
2:25 Was Buzz getting a hot dog when he lost his wallet? Steve keeps telling him those things are bad. He was actually get a popcorn/soda combo with some Mr. Pibb.
2:26 Buzz saw 30 Days of Night which was very good. It was number one at the box office so someone probably took the $200 from Buzz's wallet and bought people movie tickets.
2:27 Buzz's policy when finding a wallet is to take the cash out and leave the rest. That's a test question you get in grade school to determine if you're a psychopath or not.
2:28 Steve mentioned in his blog today that we'll have the Drive-By Truckers on the show but it's just one Trucker, Patterson Hood. Mike Cooley has a high fever, they're hoping to get him well enough for tonight's show.
2:29 Steve's ready to jam with him if he needs it. The last time Patterson and Mike were here that other guy didn't make it. Then they kicked him out of the band. They're not going to do that to Mike are they?
2:30 Jason Isbell split with the band but it was amicable. At least that's what they say, there's no way to prove it. Isn't Jason's wife still in the band though?
2:31 That's actually Jason's ex-wife. So it's sort of like a Fleetwood Mac thing but with only one girl?
2:32 Patterson and Mike started Drive-By Truckers so you've still got the two originals at Park West tonight. This is an acoustic tour so it'll be a little different than the last few times they've been here. It's a rowdy acoustic tour though. They've also got Spooner Oldham playing keyboards with them.
2:33 After this tour is over they'll head home for the holidays and then they're releasing a new album in January.
2:34 Patterson Hood performs Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife.
2:37 Steve just looked up Spooner Oldham online, he's got quite a resumè. He played with Bob Dylan, Neil Young. He played on When a Man Loves a Woman with Aretha Franklin.
2:38 Spooner is from the same town that the band is from and they've all known him for a while. They finally took him on the road in the last tour.
2:39 Patterson's dad was one of the Swampers mentioned in Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama. That has to be pretty cool growing up and hearing your dad mentioned in that song.
2:40 Drive-By Truckers went on to write Southern Rock Opera is about Lynyrd Skynyrd and the South. Everyone told them not to release that album, they actually had to release it themselves.
2:41 Chicago was really good to the band after they released that album. They had one of their first sold out shows in Chicago. They rolled into town for their show at The Hideout and barely had enough money for gas. If things didn't work out they weren't sure how they'd get to the next city on the tour.
2:42 Eventually New West Records re-released the album and just last summer they put it out on vinyl.
2:45 Drive-By Truckers are at the Park West tonight, the opener goes on at 7:30 since it's a Monday and all. The band has never played there but Patterson hears really good things about it.
2:46 Are tickets still available for the show? Steve's not even sure how you'd go about finding that out. If he ever goes to a show someone else usually gets him tickets. He is on the guest list for tonight though.
2:47 Live read: The Little Guys
2:48 Steve's still enjoying Drive-By Truckers' last album but he's looking forward to the new one. It's called Brighter Than Creation's Dark. It has 19 songs so that's almost a double album.
2:49 Steve likes all the Drive-By Truckers albums but his favorite title is Pizza Deliverance. That's almost what they called the band. Drive-By Truckers is a good name too, what does it mean?
2:50 It sounded really good in '96 when Patterson and Mike formed the band. Steve was pondering the name of the band today on his run. At the time Patterson was listening to a lot of old-time country and hip-hop.
2:51 There's a lot of similar subject matter in the two genres. There's a lot of killing, sometimes cops, in old time country music too.
2:52 Patterson Hood performs The Opening Act.
2:56 Patterson wrote that song, as well as the other one. If he's going to be the only guy who shows up he should at least perform the songs he wrote. Everyone in the band has enough problems singing their own songs.
2:57 It's always amazing to Steve that you can write a song and then forget it when you're trying to play it. For Patterson it's easier to write the songs than to remember then.
2:58 Patterson wrote the beginning of that song at the club mentioned in that song a few years ago. Then in a different state of mind he wrote the ending. He's been sitting on that song for several years.
2:59 Steve really liked the song. A lot of their songs create a certain kind of mood. Patterson thinks everyone in the band are frustrated filmmakers. They want to make movies but they don't know how so they make really long records. Southern Rock Opera actually started off as a screenplay about a fictional band that tells some of the stories about Lynyrd Skynyrd.
3:00 Someone actually did send Patterson a treatment for a Broadway musical based on Southern Rock Opera. It was really bad though, he's not ready to be Tommy just yet.
3:01 The band has thought about performing the entire album live for the 10th anniversary.
3:02 It would probably be tough to stage a musical based on that album, what with the plane crash and everything.
3:03 Patterson was actually at a screening of Elizabethtown with the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. In the movie there's a scene where a cover band is performing Freebird in a hotel banquet hall and they have a fake plane crash which sets the room on fire.
3:04 It was weird to look over and see the guys from the band reacting in horror to what they were seeing on screen.
3:09 Patterson Hood from Drive-By Truckers is here. Mike Cooley was unable to make it so we just have one Trucker. The whole band will be at Park West tonight along with Spooner Oldham.
3:10 That's an acoustic show tonight, does the female bass player play the stand-up bass?
3:11 The new album, Brighter Than Creation's Dark is out in January. It comes from a line in one of Mike's songs and it describes the record pretty well.
3:12 No one could decide what to name the album but the guy who's done the art work for all the previous releases just started working on one based on Brighter Than Creation's Dark so they went with that.
3:13 Patterson thinks you might be able to find the album somewhere online but he's not saying to steal the music. It's coming out on vinyl so buy that.
3:14 Steve would have nothing to play it on since he doesn't have a turntable. You can still find then at bargain prices somewhere.
3:15 People are still collecting vinyl but it seems like CDs are going to become like 8-tracks. Steve sort of misses dropping the needle on a record. Steve's even seen turntables that you can hook up to your computer and make mp3s of the songs.
3:16 The new album is still divided up into side 1, side 2, side 3 and side 4, that just makes Patterson feel a little better. He also liked what Wilco did with their last album, including a digital download of the songs if you purchased the vinyl.
3:17 Patterson Hood performs The Living Bubba.
3:21 Drive-By Truckers are at Park West tonight and the new album is out in January. Technically this is the Dirt Underneath Tour? Steve knew Buzz would get a kick out of that name.
3:28 Steve might be too lazy to get back into vinyl. It's pretty easy just plugging the iPod into the computer.
3:29 You probably have to be stoned to want to listen to music on vinyl. The only time Steve listens to music is when he's working out.
3:30 Steve would love to be able to go home, plop down into a bean bag chair and fire up the turntable, along with the bong. Steve doesn't have the chair, or the bong. He doesn't have a turntable either.
3:31 Buzz has an old tube amplifier and turntable. Those are back in vogue now. If he ever had the time, like if he lost his job, he'd put together a nice system for himself.
3:32 Steve can't tell the difference between vinyl and mp3. He's always being asked if he wants to increase his sample rate but he doesn't need to.
3:33 Steve's fine with his iPod. He has to of them actually, the Shuffle and the video. He uses the shuffle for running, it clips right on your shirt or jacket.
3:34 You can set up the shuffle to put random stuff on there or you can choose what you want on there. After playing a Guess Who song on Friday Steve put some Guess Who on the Shuffle. But by Sunday he was sick of that and went back to random.
3:35 Steve was running on the beach in Michigan over the weekend. At one point today and yesterday Steve turned off his iPod and listened to the lake. There were no people on the beach but there were deer tracks. Steve kept thinking he'd run into a deer and didn't know what he'd say to it.
3:36 There were more people on the beach yesterday. Steve usually has enough time to decide what to say to anyone he sees. But if he looks at them and they don't look at him he doesn't say anything.
3:37 It seems like if there's a couple on the beach the woman always wants to talk to Steve, probably because he's hot, while the dude wants to ignore him. So usually Steve says something to the woman.
3:38 Yesterday he only saw an older couple on the beach as well as a group of teenagers. Steve didn't say anything to them, he just looked at all of them.
3:39 Today Steve didn't run into anyone on the beach. Occasionally Buzz will feel compelled to say something to someone he sees on a run. Today he saw a young lady pushing a stroller.
3:40 She actually passed Buzz up, she was probably going twice as fast as he was. She was very attractive in a wholesome way so Buzz was compelled to say something. He said "hey you're making me look bad" which Steve says all the time as well.
3:41 Steve saw all the deer tracks and felt like an Indian tracking them from the shore. He thought he should go to the casino and tell the Indians that he's like them but he didn't have time.
3:45 Live read: Balance for Life
3:46 Caller Mike was listening to Steve talk about the turntables earlier. Costco sells that thing that transfers your vinyl to mp3.
3:47 Steve doesn't like going to Costco because of the whole check-out process. After you've paid you have to go through a checkpoint at the front door.
3:48 It's like when Steve was at Guitar Center and the guy was sitting there checking receipts. Why would he steal guitar strings?
3:49 Maybe Steve will check that out but he's not sure he wants to get involved in transferring all that vinyl. He does have people to do that but they have enough to do.
3:50 Steve does have some really good comedy albums that he wouldn't mind on mp3.
3:51 Will Steve has to buy the turntables in bulk? In Hawaii one year the Czerniec's went to Costco and bought some of those bao buns but he had to buy a hundred of them.
3:52 There are a lot of calls on hold about turntables but Steve's not really interested in taking the calls. In all the time Brendan has been here has he ever known Steve to want a turntable?
3:53 Caller Joe wanted to let Steve know about a laser turntable but it costs $22,000. What if he wasting Steve's time for?
3:54 The turntable points lasers at the vinyl. Jim was looking for a new needle for his turntable and he came across this thing. $22,000, what does it do?!
3:55 The turntable probably doesn't wear down the vinyl though. Should Steve put Buzz down for one?
3:56 Joe is never going to buy one though. Steve isn't either, he doesn't have time for turntables. He's not a loser dog walker.
3:56 Caller Jim saw Buzz at Shaw's Crab House on Saturday and he wanted to compliment him on his nice family. Buzz says it wasn't him but Jim doesn't believe him.
3:57 Buzz probably wouldn't lie, if he was at Shaw's he'd say so. Their waiter told them it was Buzz and he was going to compliment him on what a nice family he has.
3:58 Buzz does have a nice family but he wasn't there on Saturday. The waiter even told them Buzz was a regular at Shaw's.
3:59 This guy was a spitting image of Eric Clapton. Maybe it was him and his family. Jim feels like such a bonehead.
4:00 Jim's wife wouldn't let him go up and talk to who he thought was Buzz. Did Jim ask the waiter if it was Buzz or did the waiter just tell them?
4:08 On the phone is Pat Boyle from Comcast Sportsnet. It's amazing what a Bears win does for you on a Monday morning.
4:09 Steve has to be honest, he fell asleep during the game but woke up just in time for the final drive of the game. So he saw that but he couldn't figure out how they got there.
4:10 Steve was so bummed out by how the game was going that he must have put himself into a coma or something. Pat was on set preparing a eulogy for the Bears and then they won.
4:11 Buzz imagines it must have been mind-boggling for Steve to go from unconscious to watching that. It didn't seem like it was going to happen, there were no time outs left, they were throwing into the middle of the field and apparently his radio was broken.
4:12 Watching that final drive, Buzz was reminded of what Bob Griese did for the '72 Dolphins. A lot of those wins came like that one yesterday.
4:13 Brian Griese addressed the media today and clarified that he didn't call every play on that last drive. He didn't call the last play for the touchdown.
4:14 It seems like Halas Hall might have come down on Griese a little bit after what he said yesterday. Steve's wondering when people are going to stop protecting Ron Turner though. It seems like Griese hasn't been happy with the play calling this year.
4:15 Steve kept thinking the drive would fall apart and bad things would start happening. And bad things did happen, like that bad snap. You learn a new rule everyday.
4:16 The other bad thing from yesterday was listening to Dick Stockton and Brian Baldinger. That Baldinger guy has to go. It seems like he always wants both teams to do bad so he can lecture them.
4:17 Steve's just taking things one game at a time, like sobriety. All he knows is there's now a reason to go to the game on Sunday, other than the buffet.
4:18 Yesterday's win will mean nothing if they can't beat Detroit though. All Griese has to do is remember to give Ron Turner an Ambien and disconnect the headset in his helmet.
4:19 Steve got the impression from Jim Miller on Post Game Live-which Steve is still promoting even though his promos don't run during it-that Griese's headset didn't really go out but he was just saying that.
4:20 It's pretty clear that the Bears still don't have a run game. You can see where Benson stands with the team when he's not in the back field on 3rd and 1 with the game on the line.
4:21 It seems like Adrian Peterson is the better running back although that's not saying much. Steve would rather see Adrian Peterson and Garret Wolfe as the running backs.
4:22 Pat thinks that what we saw yesterday with teams kicking away from Hester is going to happen the rest of the season. Unless the offense can prove that they can take the ball into the end zone from the 40 or 50.
4:23 A lot of the guys who have been criticized lately really stepped up yesterday, including Muhsin Muhammad. Steve couldn't believe that final reception, he thinks he might have yelped.
4:24 It was also encouraging to see the Cowboys beat the Vikings but it's too bad that Tampa couldn't put away the Lions.
4:25 Pat is still a little worried about how the Bears will do against high scoring teams. WIth this running game he's not sure if they can keep pace.
4:26 Steve really got a kick out of watching Rod Marinelli yesterday, he's like a cartoon. He's always grumpy or mad and he's stomping around but he has a limp so he looks like a cartoon.
4:27 Maybe Steve will have to nod off during Sunday's game sometime in the 4th quarter if things are going the same way for the Bears.
4:28 It's pretty amazing that Brian Griese started ahead of Tom Brady at Michigan. He couldn't even walk on the field when he was in college.
4:29 It was amazing what the Patriots did to the Dolphins yesterday. Brady just throws the ball 80 yards to see what happens.
4:30 Also big news is that the Hawks will start televising home games on Comcast, maybe as soon as next month. Steve predicted this.
4:31 The details are still being worked out because there are nights when the Hawks and Bulls play at the same time but it's pretty amazing that it's happening at all.
4:32 Steve knew Rocky would get things moving this quickly. He might have to call him up and get some tickets.
4:33 Steve also noticed yesterday that Jim Miller has started explaining things a little better during the post-game. Steve really likes his analysis. Pat can see why most pre-game shows have QBs, they're really good to have around.
4:34 Steve hasn't seen Rex Grossman anywhere near Brian Griese when he's on the sideline. It's just Griese and Orton and Grossman is off somewhere else, probably listening to his iPod.
4:35 It has to be tough for Grossman though, knowing he had every opportunity, in a contract year. This was his team and now he's just Cade McNown. Meanwhile Griese is out on the field lighting things up in the last 2 minutes of the game.
4:36 Pat liked the cover of the Sun-Times today with Griese jumping into Ruben Brown's arms after the game. That's what Johnny B does every time Steve sees him.
4:37 It seems like everyone on the team really likes Griese. If Steve were a receiver, busting his butt in every game for a QB who can barely tie his shoes it would be frustrating. You'd much rather play for a guy who won't make the stupid mistakes, even if he doesn't have the canon for an arm. He's got the elfin magic.
4:38 Pat's not sure if Post Game Live will be at Soldier Field this weekend. They have two more broadcasts from there, he probably should find out since he's the host.
4:39 We had a Drive-By Trucker here earlier today. They're up at Park West tonight for an acoustic show. Patterson said it would be rowdy. They're rowdy in general though.

4:51 Can everyone stop with Ed Hochuli's biceps? There are 90 football players out on the field and every announcer is focused on Ed Hochuli, including Brian Baldinger.
4:52 Steve hates Brian Baldinger so much that he'd actually say it to his face. Buzz just tunes all that out which is not surprising.
4:53 Live read: Balance for Life
4:54 Alright the final Steve Dahl and the Dahlfins/Nadas/Buzz Kilman concert is November 17th at Durty Nellie's in Palatine. We'll be giving tickets away at some point for the show.
4:55 Steve was hoping to get a drop of Keith Jackson saying "Whoa Nelly" to trigger the call in. Is that something we have? Steve could probably do it but it would be less irritating to hear Keith Jackson doing it three times a day.
4:56 It'll have to be Keith Jackson though, not Steve or Bruce Wolf. Is Buzz forgetting that Bruce recently emailed Steve and told him that his wife says the show was unlistenable, right before asking him if he wanted to partner up. Even telling a drunk Steve about that probably wouldn't work.
4:57 Steve is currently waiting for a taco from Taco Bell. Buzz will run through the headlines very quickly while he waits.
4:58 Headlines with Buzz
4:59 There's a new tape airing on Al-Jazeera from someone claiming to be Osama bin Laden. He's urging all insurgents in Iraq to unite. And kill us too?
5:00 Why do they keep airing his tapes? He should at least have to buy ad space or something.
5:01 Medicare officials are investigating the case of the $5 million wheelchair. A medical supplier reportedly charged the government numerous times for the same chair.
5:02 Ellen DeGeneres is not accused of being a repeat offender, adopting dogs and giving them to friends. So what? It's better than having them put to sleep right?
5:03 The Pope of the Armenian church is coming to a house in Evanston home to bless the Ipjian family and their friends. He's going to bless the Ipjian family to the Ipjesus belt.
5:04 To mark the start of the AIBA tournament, hundreds of boxers will parade up State Street today, closing off streets downtown.
5:05 That parade is actually what's holding up Steve's taco. Tina says she can't get around it but she's probably just standing there looking at boxers.
5:06 TV host James Lipton has admitted to working as a pimp while living in Paris, France.
5:07 Alright Steve's just going to talk to Jerry Brown, Taco Bell manager, even though his encharito isn't here yet.
5:08 Jerry is the manager of a Taco Bell in Cicero. The good thing about the encharito is that you can just pop them in the microwave.
5:15 On the phone is Bears analyst Tom Thayer. That was a sweet bird seed hunk in the game yesterday.
5:16 It's not really bird seed, it's grass seed. But if you leave it there it becomes bird seed. That field looked worse than Soldier Field but it worked out for the Bears.
5:17 Jeff said Tom lifted weights with Ed Hochuli yesterday but he didn't. Ed needs to get a bigger shirt, we don't need him to be the center of attention.
5:18 Every time you watch a game Ed is refing one of the announcers makes a comment about his biceps. Yesterday it was Brian Baldinger.
5:19 That was pretty exciting yesterday, even though Steve fell asleep. Tom was pretty depressed after the Vikings loss. When Tom saw Hester on the field he thought that maybe the same thing would happen as last week. He didn't think it would be as methodical though.
5:20 You could really see yesterday what the tight end position could mean to the Bears offense. Greg Olsen needs to get the ball more and Des Clark is about as good of a receiver as he's ever been.
5:21 Next week is really important for the Bears in terms of getting back into the division race. Watching the pre-game yesterday, everyone was saying the Bears were dead.
5:22 Even during the game Stockton and Baldinger were saying their season was over. When the Bears were on the 3-yard line Stockton started reading the credits.
5:23 Then they drove 97 yards down the field and they were both saying the Bears were right back in it.
5:24 At some point the Bears coaches are going to have to give Griese a chance to use his previous experience in a game.
5:25 That last pass was a thing of beauty though. Tom thought they were lucky that there wasn't a holding call on Fred Miller.
5:26 Just hearing that gives Buzz a bad feeling, he can feel cold air going right through him.
5:27 Steve was catching a lot of Moose during that drive making sure 23 knew where to line up on the play.
5:28 Yesterday Hilgenberg had a great line. He told Tom they should put the headset in Hester's helmet instead of Griese's. That way they could tell him where to line up and then what route to run.
5:29 Tom's not knocking Devin Hester but he doesn't know all the plays yet. It takes a while to learn everything, sometimes a couple of years.
5:36 Yesterday Jeff asked Tom a question about what the win meant for the season. Jeff thought Tom didn't answer his question. Tom should have just reached over and slapped him.
5:37 At that point Tom was already looking forward to next week but Jeff's still living in the past. The past is for cowards and losers.
5:38 Steve really missed hearing Jeff and Tom yesterday, Dick Stockton and Brian Baldinger are the worst. The only thing Baldinger cares about is telling everyone why their team is so bad. He wears too much make-up too.
5:39 The team had a bad start to the weekend. Coming from the airport they got stuck in horrible traffic. The police cars escorting the bus completely missed their exit and just kept going.
5:40 Eventually someone had to get off a bus and run along side the cop car and tell him what happened. It didn't seem like a good start to the weekend. Is that something they do on purpose?
5:41 Steve saw yesterday on the post-game that Bernard Berrian wasn't happy with the service at the restaurant he went to.
5:42 Steve got a report from Little Z that their trip to Spamp's on Saturday night went really well. They met one of the owner's daughters, who was quite flattered that they'd come up in conversation on the show on Friday.
5:43 Little Z sent along some photos from the weekend including one of Tom eating a cheesesteak. Tom sampled sandwiches from Pat's and Gino's. They're good but he still prefers an Italian beef with hot giardinera.
5:44 Little Z also sent along a photo of the Eagles cheerleaders from behind. Steve's not even sure what you'd call the pants that they're wearing but they couldn't be any tighter.
5:45 When are we going to get something like that? The Eagles have those flag guys too but they also have the cheerleaders.
5:46 The Bears also have that dopey drum corps. Tom doesn't think the Bears will ever get anything like the Eagles cheerleaders though.
5:47 Steve tried to talk to Tom during the break but he couldn't hear him. Is Steve still going on that surfing trip with him? Tom will have more details tonight but it's either in Mexico or Fiji.
5:52 Jeff and Tom were rocking some cheesesteaks on Game Night Live last night. Tom travels with a mini TV and when he got on the team bus it was on so he turned it up when Jeff's part came on.
5:53 Caller Mark doesn't want to get too negative after the win but after Berrian missed that block on what could have been a touchdown he wanted to throw his TV through the wall.
5:54 They made a big deal about that on TV yesterday. Tom was watching the game on the computer on the flight home and he thought Berrian should have really thrown a hard block into that guy. He said last week they need to bring back the nasty, that would have been a good time to do it.
5:55 Brian Baldinger couldn't let it go though, he just kept on it saying the Bears would never win a game with plays like that.
5:56 Tom can see how some receivers would be a little hesitant to block someone on defense who's so much bigger than he is.
5:57 It was frustrating but it was made even worse by Brian Baldinger harping on it so much.
5:58 Jeff was impressed with some of the things Moose did on the field yesterday. He made some great catches and took some hard hits but held onto the ball.
5:59 Caller Todd was watching Brian Baldinger also. How irritating is that guy? Todd was wondering if Philadelphia had audio on the defensive side at the end of the game when the Bears didn't.
6:00 There is no audio in the helmet on defense so it didn't matter. But they're talking about doing that in the future. Tom's not sure how long the radio would last on defense with all the abuse they took.
6:01 Griese's radio did really go out, you could see him making gestures to the sidelines. There are still ways to communicate the plays though.
6:02 At some point they're going to have to let Griese just call the plays himself. He probably has more knowledge than some of the coaches out there.
6:03 Imagine if you're dad came home from work every night talking about how to beat the Steelers defense.

6:10 Caller Jerry wanted to talk about the inability of Cedric Benson to stay on his feet or make anyone on the secondary miss a tackle.
6:11 Jerry noticed that Peterson played a little more in the second half and was able to keep drives going when they need it.
6:12 Tom still thinks Cedric needs to develop better instincts. Can you develop instincts? There also needs to be some more consistency on the offensive line for Cedric.
6:13 Cedric is allowing the Bears to have a better play-action pass game and he's getting better at blocking but he needs to do a better job of figuring out where the holes are going to be.
6:14 At Texas Cedric had an offensive line that was bigger and better than most of their opponents. It's different in the NFL though.
6:15 When Tom was on the offensive line all 7 guys came off the ball at the same time in the same direction. That's why they had those 7-man sleds in practice. There was a seat in the back where the coach would sit waiting to hear one sound, not 7 sounds.
6:16 Now the line comes off laterally in different directions. That's something Tom will never agree with in football today. Yesterday during the Tampa/Detroit game he almost called Tampa to yell at them. You can watch those helmets and see the pewter move laterally.
6:17 The same thing happened with Curtis Enis coming from Penn State to the NFL. Tom still has faith in Cedric and he's not going to put all the blame on him.
6:18 The more respect the tight ends get in Chicago the more chances there will be for the receivers which will open up the running game.
6:26 Yesterday Darwin Walker, who was an Eagle, asked permission to talk to the offensive line and tell them what was going on. He had some info and he passed it along. Steve's not sure if it was helpful but they won the game.
6:27 There was a lot of good football on Saturday too, that LSU game was incredible. Buzz enjoyed the Notre Dame game, they lost 38-0. Buzz thought he saw Ed Farmer with a gun to his head. Plus he lives in Malibu so his house is probably on fire.

6:38 Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says it is a tragic day for California residents as wind-fueled fires sweep through Malibu. Really? Thanks Einstein. "I'll be blackened"
6:39 Democratic leaders are concerned with President Bush's latest request for more funding for the war in Iraq.
6:41 Action star Chuck Norris has thrown his weight behind Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. You know the old saying "as Chuck Norris goes, so goes the country." If it's good enough for Chuck Norris it's good enough for Steve.
6:43 In the midst of a terrible draught in North Carolina grounds crews at UNC and Duke were spotted watering the artificial turf on their field hockey teams.
6:44 Steve saw that the people in Atlanta are getting irritated because they have to release a million gallons a day down river to keep these endangered fresh water mussels alive.
6:45 They're really running out of water in Atlanta, they only have a 2 month supply before it all dries up.
6:46 It seems like the priorities are a little backwards if you're trying to prevent the mussels from going extinct but OK with people running out of water.
6:47 MTV Films has bought the rights to the Bong Hits for Jesus story. An Alaska high school student too his fight for the right to display a sign that said "Bong Hits for Jesus" outside his school all the way to the Supreme Court.
6:48 Is Buzz going to any of those AIBA fights? He's a big fan of live fights and the square circle in general. All of the fighters are young kids so there's none of the professional lolly-gagging. They just get right to it and fight for three rounds.
6:49 Scientists have found that a patient's mental state, positive or negative, has no bearing on cancer survival. Steve's glad to know that because he intends to wallow.
6:57 Matt and Brendan were down in Champaign-Urbana over the weekend and there were some hijinks.
6:58 They actually got separated and Matt had to post a "Missed Connections" ad on Craigslist just to find him.
6:59 They met up with Mike for tailgating just before the game. It's too bad they lost though. Going to a football game is sort of predicated on your team winning. Plus a win guarantees you a chance with some girl at Kam's.
7:00 Matt and Brendan were at Kam's for the end of the game. They showed Kam's on TV and Steve kept thinking he saw Mike but then he realized every guy down there looks like Mike. He has the U of I look.
7:01 As it turns out Steve was down there for the last time Illinois beat Michigan although he wasn't at the game. Steve was sitting in his hotel in some sort of room that had a loft. There was no bathroom up there so Steve had to use a waste basket.
