2:01 Did that rejoin say "back to the Stan and Terry show"? Because there's no such thing as that any more.
2:02 There's a lot of stuff going on here including Buzz slipping into his headphones for the first time. Steve warned him all day Friday to try them out before today but he didn't listen.
2:03 Buzz can't wear headphones over the top of his head because of his procedure. Steve can't see under his hat but he's guessing Buzz went with the full Wayne Cochran look.
2:04 Buzz has to keep his hat on because he can't comb his hair. He of course knows how Steve feels about hair grooming. Steve needs hair to be well-quaffed. He did work with Garry Meier after all.
2:05 Steve's trying to figure out what he's supposed to be doing here. Generally speaking he knows what he's supposed to do.
2:06 There's supposed to be an announcement at 5:00 PM today. For three weeks that has been pounded into Steve's head. Of course everyone else knows what's going on here so Steve looks stupid for not saying anything.
2:07 Steve assumed they were going to spare everyone's feelings, hence the announcement later today. But Garry said it was his last show today and so did Stan and Terry.
2:08 Also, the announcement at 5:00 won't answer everyone's questions. It's only an announcement about this show. Drew called Steve today, in what he can only assume will be their last call, to remind him about the announcement.
2:09 The first meeting Steve took about all this is what caused him to be late to his training session. Then his trainer broke up with him. Steve got a new trainer who doesn't have an accent and is taller and more muscular. Plus Steve added a third training session.
2:10 Steve told the guy that he doesn't really like to talk while he works out. Steve likes to just sit there and hate working out.
2:11 Steve's trainer is named Christopher but he'll be shortening that to Chris. Buzz does not know that guy. Steve hasn't seen Buzz over there in a while.
2:12 Buzz has stopped working out in an attempt to lose weight. He figured that he'd lose all that muscle weight but it probably wasn't a good idea.
2:13 Steve's going to suspend this story for now to talk to Ed Farmer. He'll continue later on with how he sort of ran amok at the gym on Friday night at 10:00 PM.
2:14 Ed Farmer wants to know what happened with Steve's workout. Ed's not going to be on later, he'll have to tune in on the internet.
2:15 Steve would rather talk to Ed about Ed. He's far enough from the fires that he didn't sustain any damage right?
2:16 The fire was actually right behind Ed's house. At 5:15 AM a police officer came to the house and asked them to evacuate. Ed stayed with the garden hose but his wife and daughter left. Unfortunately the car that was left for him hadn't been used in months and the battery was dead.
2:17 Steve would imagine all that firefighting looks even cooler from the ground than it does on TV.
2:18 Ed's not sure what his fire was called officially. First it was the Malibu Fire. Steve didn't know we had to start naming fires. The TV people probably need to do that for the sweet graphic.
2:19 Steve noticed that the Red Sox players all had goggles on last night during their celebration. You don't want that champagne in your eyes.
2:20 Ed expects the White Sox to win next year since the Red Sox won this year. The same thing happened in 2004 and 2005.
2:21 The White Sox can't win every year, it would take the luster off of it. Plus Ed only has 10 fingers so he can't fit that many more rings.
2:22 Ed loves that Adam Vinatieri commercial where he's at the airport going through the metal detector and he keeps having to remove his Super Bowl rings.
2:23 They won't be making one of those commercials with a Bears player this year.
2:24 Does Ed have a firefighters outfit to wear in the event of future fires? He might want to get one to hang up in the garage just in case.
2:25 A lot of people have those pumps that hook up to their pool to fight the fire. Ed does not have a pool. Ed saw one guy who installed a foaming system in his house up near Arrowhead Lake. He still has his house but it just smells a little bit and there's no electricity.
2:26 The Chicago Fire Department would probably outfit Ed with a firefighter outfit for next year. There are a lot of Sox fans in the department.
2:27 So the Red Sox won last night but what else is there to say really? They're a really good team.
2:28 Everyone is anointing the Red Sox as a dynasty but they did the same thing for the White Sox after they won. It's hard enough to win once.
2:29 Why is everyone so quick to anoint a dynasty? Will the Red Sox have another parade like they did in 2004?
2:30 Steve saw that there was one lady who met the Diamondbacks when they returned to Arizona after losing the NLCS. You're better off having no one waiting for you.
2:31 The last time Ed was here he said that if the Red Sox won the Saturday ALCS game the Sunday game would be a blow-out.
2:32 Steve ended up watching some of the games and it was pretty exciting. He felt bad for the Rockies though.
2:36 Steve had never heard Terry Francona talk before, he thought he would sign different. Ed's known him for a while. He actually managed Michael Jordan at Birmingham.
2:37 Steve is a little distracted because he's having his picture taken and he's trying to look cool.
2:38 When Jordan was playing for the Birmingham Barons he took Terry Francona to a Nike warehouse in Memphis. He told Terry to get whatever he wanted and Jordan would sign for it.
2:39 Terry came back with some shoes for him and his wife and something for his son and daughter. Michael told him he had an hour in the warehouse to take whatever he wanted and Michael would have it packaged and sent to his family.
2:40 Terry's a really good manager though. He's great at motivating players and nothing gets to him.
2:41 Steve needs to interrupt Ed talking because the photographer needs to get some photos of Steve talking. He also needs video. Is he just going to videotape them listening? They're great listeners.
2:42 Steve is of course not a fan of the White Sox 2005 World Series ring. It looks like it was designed by Jerry Reinsdorf's wife and in fact it was.
2:43 Ed thinks the ring looks great. It looks great maybe if you're a middle-aged woman going to a cocktail party on the North Shore.
2:44 Steve's going to commission his own 2005 World Series ring.
2:45 So A-Rod opted out of his contract which saves the Rangers a lot of money. They were paying a good chunk of his contract still for the Yankees.
2:46 There are people in Chicago that say he's coming to the Cubs and there are people in LA who say he's coming to the Dodgers with Joe Torre.
2:47 Ed thinks he's going to the Marlins. Where do they play? Is it still called Dolphins Stadium or is it back to Joe Robbie?
2:48 The Dolphins of course play all of their games in Wembley Stadium now. Ed heard they grow the grass there so the soccer ball slides over it better.
2:49 It's Dolphins Stadium just for the record. Steve should have known that because he was at the Super Bowl last year. He's still disappointed with that game although it did lead up to spring training and then that wonderful White Sox season.
2:50 So Joe Girardi has been offered a job with the Yankees. Now that the World Series is over they can announce that.
2:51 How many photos does this guy need of Steve? He feels like he's on a cruise with this in-laws. They take so many photos that you can make a flip-book of your entire trip.
2:52 Steve probably shouldn't say anything mean to the photographer or else he'll use the photo that makes him look 800 pounds. This is the same guy who took that very fetching photo of Steve for his vice column.
2:53 Ed has a question for Steve since he knows about music. What was that music they played before every game? It sounded like music from Jurassic Park.
2:54 Steve didn't think Ed would ever stop talking. He also thought his idea about outfitting Ed with a CFD firefighters uniform was a good idea. Ed didn't think it would happen.
2:55 There isn't a firehouse in the vicinity of U.S. Cellular that wouldn't love to hook Ed up.
2:59 Live read: WCIU
3:02 Steve has something that ties in with Blue Monday and fires.
3:03 Song: Crossfire, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
3:09 How is Buzz adjusting to those new headphones? It sort of seems like he's distracted, does he need a new pair? The sound is only coming in on one side.
3:10 Steve wasn't complaining, he was just trying to be helpful. Some how it got turned around on Steve though.
3:11 Other than the sound issue they're fine. Buzz is actually surprised at how easy they are to operate.
3:12 Before Ed Farmer called in Steve was talking about how he got a new trainer. His old trainer was just about ready to break up with him.
3:13 Because of Steve Buzz has a casual relationship with his old trainer Cornell. Buzz imagines he'll hear his side of the story very soon.
3:14 As you can imagine Steve's had many meetings with Rod Zimmerman over the last few weeks. He's the market manager for all the CBS stations in Chicago.
3:15 Again, Steve realizes that everyone else on the station said it was their last day but he can't say anything until 5:00. And just to put more pressure on him, Steve was told that all the advertisers were sent something telling them to tune in at 5:00.
3:16 It's funny because these corporate guys work so hard on the cone of silence but everyone else already knows what's going on. They almost ignore the fact that everyone else knows about it too. Buzz refers to that as the corporate dream world.
3:17 Originally Steve thought Garry or Stan and Terry or even O & A would be told what was happening after their show. Otherwise you have three shows before you where they've all said this is their last show. Meanwhile Steve can't say anything until 5:00.
3:18 The corporate guys might actually believe that all of those people were told what was happening after their show.
3:19 Tom Thayer will probably call in right after 5:00. This won't effect the Five O'Clock Taco Bell since the last one was on Friday. The taco didn't say farewell.
3:20 It's probably better that way because you don't want all the advertisers tuning in at 5:00 and hearing Steve eating a taco.
3:21 Steve feels that he's gotten really good at avoiding setting himself up for failure and doom but that's all corporate guys do. Let's have all the advertisers tune in right at 5:00, what could go wrong?
3:22 It looks like Buzz is going to a Halloween party as Chuck Yeager today. He's got the hat and the leather flight jacket on. Is it cold in the studio today?
3:23 Buzz is always cold in the studio. Steve's trying to keep it warmer but if it gets any more he notices it. Then he starts thinking about it, then he sweats, then he wonders if it's flop sweat. It's a downward spiral.
3:24 Buzz is very excited to see what the announcement will be at 5:00. That guy from the Tribune must have taken a thousand photographs, plus he shot some video.
3:25 Phil Rosenthal had a column in the Trib on Sunday about everything that's going on around here that no one knows about. Steve felt the photo they used was not very flattering.
3:26 Steve secretly wished for an updated photo and then the guy showed up. In Steve's wish he posed for the photo and then reviewed it before giving the OK.
3:27 Steve doesn't mean to be vain about all this but when you work to take off weight you want that better represented if your photo is in the paper.
3:28 OK so back to the working out. Steve went to lift weights on Friday night although he's not really sure what he's training for. He went to the club by him at 9:00 or 9:30 on Friday night. He's Mr. Excitement.
3:29 There weren't too many people there. There were two dudes lifting weights in Zubazz pants although they didn't seem much stronger than Steve. It seemed like a waste of Zubazz pants.
3:30 There was also a really big woman but not fat, just really tall. She was the hottest chick there but she was the only chick there.
3:31 The girl at the front desk is probably cuter. Steve had to go through the entire process of gaining entry to the gym with her since he still doesn't have his ID card.
3:32 There was also a black dude at the gym who was using the machine Steve wanted to end his workout on. Steve hadn't been able to find that machine yet.
3:33 Steve asked the guy if he could use the machine too and the guy said he had two more reps left. Then Steve asked him again and he just ignored him. Steve feels it was because he was a old white dude.
3:34 Buzz was once at a bodybuilding competition and there was a 65 and over group. There were only two guys involved, one who was ripped and the other who didn't look good at all. At the end when they were handing out the trophies the flabby guy went to shake the ripped dude's hand and was rebuffed and ignored. Initially Buzz felt bad for the guy but then he turned when he realized that the guy deserved it.
3:35 Steve stood there staring at the guy while he finished up. Then he put more weight than the guy had on there. At one point he was lifting 600 points, he's surprised his legs didn't snap.
3:39 On the phone is Mark Schanowski from Comcast Sportsnet. He's looking forward to moving on to new horizons now that the Bears season is pretty much over.
3:40 You would have thought Brian Griese was Rex Grossman the way he played yesterday. Maybe that's his Halloween costume.
3:41 Steve is personally going to blame Mark Bradley for a couple of those interceptions. They weren't great throws by Griese though.
3:42 Steve's hoping that Tom Thayer will have at least one positive thing to say about yesterday's game. He still has 8 more games to broadcast and Steve has paid for 4 more games.
3:43 The Bears have two weeks to figure things out but it doesn't seem like there's much left to be excited about.
3:44 Is there anything positive to talk about? The Bulls start their season on Wednesday and it seems like everyone will be ready to go except Joakim Noah. They're ready to make a run at the Eastern Conference Championship.
3:45 Why do we always build ourselves up like that? It's probably the nature of sports fans, especially in Chicago. We haven't had that many championships to make us complacent.
3:46 A-Rod opted out of his contract. When he ended up on Texas Kenny Williams was pretty serious about trying to acquire him. Then Texas offered him $250 million.
3:47 Steve was going to say that A-Rod might wreck team chemistry but there is no team chemistry.
3:48 It doesn't seem like the Cubs will be able to get him just because of the whole ownership situation.
3:49 If the Yankees go hard after Mike Lowell that could open the door for the Red Sox to go after A-Rod.
3:50 What's going to happen to Joe Girardi in New York? He's a pretty tough guy, Mark thinks he'll do alright out there.
3:51 One of the reasons that Girardi got that job is because of what he did in Florida. It seems like the Yankees are kind of going for a youth movement.
3:52 After the Bears game yesterday Steve watched the Patriots game. It's like they're in a totally different league.
3:53 Then you've got Randy Moss running and jumping to congratulate Brady on running in a touchdown. How do the Bears miss out on all of that?
4:00 Tommie Harris said the Bears were going to make the playoffs this year. He also said the Bears would be the Lions and they didn't.
4:01 Headlines with Buzz
4:02 20 headless bodies were found outside of Baghdad yesterday. In slightly better Iraq news 8 tribal leaders abducted last week were rescued today.
4:03 Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has because Argentina's first woman president. As far as Buzz can tell she's very hot. She sort of reminds Steve of his Argentinean housekeeper Gladys.
4:04 Arnold Schwarzanegger told reporters today that he'd never done drugs. Then he was reminded of the Pumping Iron video that shows him smoking marijuana. Schwarzenegger then said that marijuana is a leaf.
4:05 Steve has enjoyed Arnold speaking openly to all the arsonists and people who would take advantage of fire victims like he's the Terminator.
4:06 Joey Chestnut took first place at this weekend's Krystal Burger Competition, beating Patrick Bertoletti who came in third. All that talk he did, walking around with the White Castle Crave Case and he comes in third?
4:07 Three Romanian boxers in town for the AIBA have been accused at shoplifting at Nordstrom's. They've been banned from amateur boxing for life. So they can just make the transition to professional boxing.
4:08 Buzz feels this is just more bad news for Chicago's Olympic chances. Steve can't see 3 shoplifting boxers making the international press wire.
4:09 Were they at Nordstrom's to meet that UFC guy? Maybe they stole one of his hip t-shirts. Or maybe they didn't know you have to pay for stuff.
4:10 Oprah is back in Africa to investigate misdeeds at her school for girls.
4:11 Joe Girardi will be the new manager of the New York Yankees. Buzz can't really wish him well because he doesn't like the Yankees. It also doesn't matter that he was a former Cub.
4:12 Steve has one more thing to add. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and two Cook County Commissioners led a Boston Tea Party-style protest today, pouring bottles of water into the Chicago River.
4:13 The group was protesting the city's proposed tax on bottled water. They want no more taxes and no more government waste.
4:14 At the Boston Tea Party you could see the tea dumped into the water. You can't see bottled water dumped into more water.
4:15 Song: The Weight, The Band
4:18 Steve noticed that Buzz is once again adjusting his headphones. He doesn't want to incur Buzz's wrath but he had a few other headphones for him to try out.
4:19 He's got the Koss Sport which are two individual headphones, one for each ear. Steve also has a pair of Sony's that go around the back of your head. Buzz might want to try those out since his last pair was a Sony.
4:20 Shure makes a nice pair of earbuds but Buzz doesn't do earbuds. He should probably try out the Sony headphones.
4:24 Buzz has his new headphones on. He likes them better than the other ones. It's weird having them clipped onto your ears though. They do sound more like the headphones Buzz is used to. Another happy costumer.
4:25 Caller Dave saw Curb Your Enthusiasm last night and thought of Buzz. The episode was about Jeff Garlin accidentally having his head shaved. Dave was wondering how Buzz's procedure went.
4:26 It's weird to Steve that the transplant people bought 5 commercials per show all last week and bought nothing this week. Steve might have to charge them for all this.
4:27 Buzz thinks that Medical Hair Restoration would rather not have Buzz talking about his procedure during the recovery process.
4:28 The procedure wasn't painful , they gave him two Valiums and afterwards told him he snored his way through the 4 hours. That's Being Buzz Kilman. Only Buzz could get free hair, at the behest of his wife 20 years younger wife, then fall asleep during the entire procedure. And today he's got Steve falling over himself trying to get him new headphones. He's like Cinderella.
4:29 Buzz hasn't unveiled anything yet. Right now you really wouldn't notice anything different. It'll take about 3 months for the hair to grow out.
4:30 Steve meant to watch Curb but he fell asleep. He actually put himself into a self-induced coma watching the Bears highlights. He was willing himself to die.
4:31 We're going to talk to Tom Thayer after the break, a little earlier than normal. We've got the big announcement at 5:00 about all the stuff everyone knows about already. Steve can't say what it is until 5:00 though. Buzz can feel the anticipation building throughout the entire city.
4:37 Steve was credited for one sack yesterday because Tom read the live read right before Lance Briggs got to John Kitna. Tom reads that every time he goes into a bar now.
4:38 If Steve could have jumped off the little ledge he was on yesterday he would have.
4:39 Tom has an iPhone which is sweet. Steve didn't know he had one, can they start texting now? Steve has no one to text.
4:40 Steve can text Tom during games and tell him to tell someone to call a screen pass. Or he can tell him how much this sucks.
4:41 Steve doesn't know what to think after those 3 interceptions yesterday. Mark Bradley should have tried to break up that first interception, even if he gets called for Offensive pass interference.
4:42 There were some really ugly dropped passes in the game yesterday too. A lot of those passes could have been caught and changed the game.
4:43 On the first play on defense for the Bears Charles Tillman should have intercepted that pass to Williams. That would have shut him up for the game too.
4:44 Benson should have also caught that swing pass in the first offensive play of the game. Then you wouldn't have a three and out on your first possession.
4:45 Those kickoff schemes the Lions ran yesterday looked like a high school game and that's an insult to high schoolers.
4:46 When Tom was in high school they had two kickers on the kickoff team and they'd both run at the ball. One guy would kick long and the other short but you never knew what was going to happen.
4:47 Steve doesn't really know what else to say. Technically it's not too late to change something. Everyone would have loved the Bears for the next two weeks if they could have gotten back to .500.
4:48 Then after the bye you'd have the Raiders and the Seahawks, both struggling teams. The Raiders gave up 198 yards of rushing yesterday so if the Bears go in and only rush for 50 yards then it's time to make some roster changes.
4:49 Steve did notice yesterday that the offensive line did seem to be making some holes for Cedric Benson yesterday but he wasn't going through them.
4:50 Tom would like to see a little more camaraderie on the field from the Bears. The best example was no one celebrating with Tommie Harris when he got that sack yesterday.
4:51 Steve wanted to see more pressure from the defense yesterday.
4:52 Maybe everyone on the team needs to watch Lovie's post-game press conferences after a loss, just to see how disappointed he is.
4:53 If these guys want to draw a salary of players they have to go out there and play good football. There's an endless conveyor belt of guys from college who will do anything to get your job.
4:54 Steve can't believe that anyone who plays football would want to go out there unprepared. You could get killed! Plus you're embarrassing yourself in front of your city and the whole country.
4:58 Is Tom going to call in next week even though it's a bye week? Tom heard there was some big announcement coming up.
4:59 Steve can't make the announcement now, he really has to go to the bathroom. He'll text Tom all the information.
5:06 Steve's trying to figure out why that guy from the Tribune is back in here. It's hard enough to do all this as it is, but then you've got some guy Steve doesn't know with his home video camera.
5:07 Steve has to go through the awkwardness of this guy being in here just for the Tribune website? And now he's moving closer?
5:08 It's not even for a TV station, it's for the Tribune website. Steve can get them a CD of the sound. He's going to have to say he doesn't want him in here.
5:09 Buzz suggests ignoring the guy and reading the announcement. Steve will try to do that but he's not happy about it. The photographer isn't happy about it either so in a way everyone is bonded in the studio, like crash victims.
5:10 The other ridiculous thing about this is that it's an announcement but everyone knows what's going on. Who's idea was this? Phil Rosenthal?
5:11 Steve doesn't like making announcements anyway, especially when everyone knows what he's going to say. Everyone else on the station said it was their last show. Steve is excited by what he's announcing, as is Buzz.
5:12 So Steve will just read it, even though everyone knows what's going on. Everyone at the game yesterday was telling Steve "good luck on Jack" Today Buzz got off the elevator and someone told him "even Jack needs a good Buzz" That was Todd, the program director.
5:13 Today Todd was wearing blue jeans with a dragon stitched on the back pocket. Steve wanted a pair but he doesn't think he could pull it off.
5:14 Chicago veteran Steve Dahl returns to mornings on Jack FM beginning Monday, November 5th. Buzz should put that on his calendar, Steve doesn't want to have to come and roust him.
5:15 This was announced today by Peter Bowen. Steve never knew who he was but he's seen him on the elevator for the last 4 years. There are 5 CBS stations here so Steve figured he worked somewhere.
5:16 Can Buzz make 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM? Arrangements can be made. Steve got us out of 5:00 to 10:00. He probably could have gotten us 6:00 to 10:00 but everyone else starts at 5:30.
5:17 Look at Steve, he's hamming it up for the camera now like he's on TV. Is this all going to be on the website?
5:18 The self-entitled show will showcase Steve's unique wit, unlike this show. Finally somewhere to showcase Steve's unique wit. So far Buzz is not on this show but maybe it comes later.
5:19 Along with Steve will be his cast of characters including radio veteran Buzz Kilman. So Buzz is part of his cast of characters. How many characters does he have to do?
5:20 The rest of the day on Jack will be jock-free radio which is fine with Steve. Automatically he and Buzz are the big men on campus. They can't wait for the staff meetings when they saunter in as the only two live personalities on the station.
5:21 Steve's funny quotes in the press release are "why wasn't I notified of this?" and "who's Jack?"
5:22 That's pretty much the announcement. Steve and Buzz can discuss amongst themselves after the break about everything that's happening. The entire staff is moving with Steve and we don't have to move studios either.
5:23 Steve and Buzz will be live all week. Steve thinks he and Buzz should get some time off to recharge though.
5:24 Matt and Brendan knew their last show was on Saturday but very professionally they didn't say anything. David Hochberg on the other hand couldn't stop talking about how it was his second to last show.
5:25 The Best of Dahl will be on the rest of the week which seems like a bit much. That's what they want though.
5:26 Would Buzz like to know more about Jack? It features 1200 songs from the last 5 decades with limited commercial interruption and less repetition.
5:27 It'll be fun, Steve's looking forward to getting back to the morning radio wars. Someone needs to straighten all those people out because they're getting away with murder. Half of them aren't even trying.
5:28 Live read: Townstone Financial
5:29 You know what else irritated Steve? Friday's Townstone live read was about a guy named Jack. Hochberg needs to learn to sit on things a little bit. He's not even a radio guy, he just buys some time.
5:30 David announced on Saturday that it was his second-to-last show but Steve has to wait until today at 5:00 to make his announcement.
5:31 Mark Czerniec is coming with us too. He's up in Racine so sometimes Steve forgets. Buzz was going to say working from home will have no impact on him but he still has to get up early.
5:32 He will probably be put-out by it but that's his nature. Everyone seems excited about it though. It's fun doing mornings. The only reason you're up is to do that show. Afternoons have a more leisurely pace than mornings.
5:33 David is crazy though. Behind the scenes he's railing that they're not putting him on a better station. They found a way to make him happy though. Steve just wants him to buy live reads on this show. Two a day would be great too.
5:34 And guess who's on the phone now? It's David Hochberg. He's really looking forward to mornings.
5:35 David has a billion dollar mortgage empire and he's worried about his radio show?
5:36 Steve doesn't like the paradigm of people paying to be on the radio. Pretty soon he and Buzz will have to do that.
5:37 Steve loves David though. With the money he's saving not doing the radio show he can buy two ads per day. It's one of the few commercials Buzz truly enjoys. He enjoys the music, the stories and the way Steve does the read.
5:38 David did say the music for the live reads was his idea. Who actually thinks that though? Steve doesn't. Buzz? Mary? Pete? Brendan? JIm?
5:39 A lot of people emailed Steve saying stuff like "say it ain't so." There are some things going on at this station, which Steve won't talk about, and there was no place for him.
5:41 There were several options presented to Steve, including not working for 3 1/2 years. He likes working though so that didn't seem like the best option.
5:44 The WGN morning news mentioned Steve's switch to Jack this morning. Some big announcement that was!
5:45 Steve has known for a while but he didn't tell anyone. Buzz didn't even find out until Friday. That's corporate dream world.
5:46 Buzz wonders if this is the last we've heard from Drew. He's sort of dejected since this is his station. Steve calls down to Drew's office.
5:47 Drew is still here, he's just hanging out in his office. Someone has to make sure the 105 Best Moments of Steve goes off without a hitch.
5:48 Steve got into the middle of an argument about all that last week. He came into Steve's office saying he couldn't wait for the battle of the titans. Then he tried to pit Steve against Rod.
5:49 Drew's going back to WBBM. Will he be a news reader or something? Maybe he could do traffic and weather on the 8's. That'd be really irritating.
5:50 Steve was in the office when Drew and Rod were arguing about the "Best of Dahl" we were going to play this week.
5:51 The idea was to have the 105 best moments from Steve's time here but Drew told Rod that was impossible. Then he said that his last moment at WCKG was another corporate shove down.
5:52 Then Rod told Drew it was his idea and started yelling at Drew. Steve has never seen Rod do that.
5:55 Before we take the phone calls Steve has something to add to the official record. This is from the 3/19/07 show log.
5:56 After the Townstone Financial live read Steve suggested we get some soap opera music for the serialized reads. Buzz has grown to love that music.
5:57 Caller Jack is using his real name. Steve cut some promos for Jack. Buzz should be prepared for some people to hate the show over there. They just want to listen to music in the mornings.
5:58 Jack is used to hearing Ed Farmer and Tom Thayer and Jeff Joniak on the show. That's all going to happen just not at 5:00 PM. Jack wants to put his vote in for 7:00 AM.
5:59 The show will stay the same except Steve and Buzz will really put on their radio voices. They'll also give the time a lot.
6:00 Jack can't imagine Ed and Tom being morning people. Steve's not sure about Ed but Tom gets up really early.
6:01 Caller Chuck has been a long distance listener for a while, will the morning show still have podcasts and streaming? Chuck's in Vegas, Steve will be out there in a few weeks.
6:02 They'll have to hook up, but not like the kids say. Chuck can buy Steve a Red Bull and a hamburger. Steve was looking for something a little more exciting.
6:03 We will still have all that stuff but the website might change a little bit. Chuck is glad to hear that because the morning show will come on at 1:00 AM when he's getting in.
6:04 Steve doesn't want to disappoint Chuck but he's pretty sure the show will be on at 3:30 AM Vegas time.
6:05 We'll try to hook Chuck up with a Lettuce gift card for a place out in Vegas. That might be tough since it's a ghost town around here. It's just this show and Drew, barricaded in his office with a weapon.
6:06 Caller Josh offers his congratulations to Steve and Buzz. It'll be challenging but fun. Jack it up!
6:07 This will be a big rearrange for Josh because he works from home. He doesn't get up at 5:30 AM but we will be on until 10:00. This might be a good time for Josh to get a job outside the house.
6:08 Josh was also wondering if this time change means that Bob and Ron will have to get up before noon to come in every week.
6:09 It's really a load off of Steve's mind that he can finally talk about this. He's known about it for almost a month and he couldn't tell anyone, even his own son.
6:10 It's not that Steve didn't trust Matt, that's just the way it is. It'll be a lasting lesson for Matt. The last time something like this happened Matt was 10.
6:11 Buzz can't remember the last time a whole station went like this but he described it as "walking around the hallways knee deep in blood." Steve feels bad for everyone else but he's only doing what they're asking him to do.
6:12 Caller Ken thinks this makes the mornings more fun. For everyone out in the Northwest it'll be a better signal.
6:13 It is a better signal which is something Steve took into account. He was tired of hearing from people up in Fox Lake or in Hammond saying the signal was washed out.
6:14 Ken's question was about the Dahlfins concert at Durty Nellie's. It's still going on, November 17th.
6:15 Steve could take some more calls but he'll be on all week to answer questions. The main thing is that this show will be on Jack FM on Monday morning, intact.
6:19 Does Buzz want to do the news? Because Steve has a song he could play to give Buzz a little more time to get ready.
6:20 Song: Changes, David Bowie
6:24 Steve doesn't want to say he's old or anything but when he was in 10th grade the quote on the front of their yearbook was from Changes. It seems sort of lame now but at the time it was cool.
6:25 Have we been playing that "Whoa Nelly" thing today? It doesn't seem like we have, is that by design?
6:29 News with Buzz
6:30 Brigadier General Jeffrey Dorko (who probably didn't get teased in school) is now the highest ranking U.S. soldier to be injured in Iraq.
6:31 Christina Fernandez de Kirchner will be come Argentina's first female president. Her margin of victory means they will not have a runoff election.
6:32 There's a third witness for the prosecution against OJ Simpson. He'll be testifying against the remaining three defendants. He's going to prison right?
6:33 Lindsay Lohan's mom will begin filming her new reality show for E! It's about how you can be successful, a single mom and fulfill your kid's dreams.
6:34 The ABA is calling for a nationwide moratorium on the death penalty. The group has no confidence that's it being carried out properly or fairly. Steve saw that they also found that more white people were given the death penalty.
6:35 That's not what Buzz has. Steve could be wrong but he thought he saw that on CNN. Buzz will find and cite the source before the next break.
6:36 The high court will weigh weather lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment. They could use a cocktail of drugs that would not be cruel but they won't do that.
6:37 There's something in there that's a narcotic and they don't want to give that to prisoners.
6:38 The man who oversaw public affairs for FEMA and ran the fake news conference last week will not become director of public affairs of the NSA>
6:39 Caller Brian is vet. When they put an animal down they basically anaesthetize the animal so they don't wake up.
6:40 There's some sort of objection to giving people barbiturates though.
6:41 Protestors turned out in Amsterdam over the weekend in order to convince the government not to ban mushrooms.
6:42 That's all because one kid got high and jumped off a bridge. It's the same with the Ephedra.
6:43 Illinois school kid will still have to start their day with a mandatory moment of silence. Is that Rob Sherman again? He can't stop can he?
6:44 They've got it down to a moment of silence and that's still not good enough for him. Now he's got his 14-year old daughter involved.
6:45 He's saying it's a backdoor effort to get prayer in school. If it's not mandatory then all the kids will talk. How much taxpayer money has that guy wasted bringing these lawsuits?
6:46 It seems like a complete waste of everyone's time, especially when they don't have enough money to run the CTA.
6:47 Steve's silent all the time, he's not praying. He's just sitting in the dark being silent. Contrarily when Buzz is silent he's usually praying for all kinds of things. That's lovely.
6:56 Steve gets the feeling that Rob Sherman does believe in God but he can't come to grips with it. If you really didn't believe in God, why would you care this much?
6:57 Wouldn't you prefer to be the only one who knows there's nothing going on and everyone else believes?
