5:35 Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind, Rhiannon. DIdn't Buzz co-write that song?
5:36 Buzz is the funniest guy. A minute before that song ended he says "Are there any of those medical things today?" and by that he meant the hair transplant ads. He seemed sort of mad that there weren't.
5:37 For those of you not familiar with us (how could that possibly be?) Buzz had a hair transplant. Buzz doesn't know if he wants to talk about this for free.
5:38 Steve has a new phone number, it's 591-JACK, get it? It's sort of weird because Steve and Buzz are in the same studio. They might actually still be on WCKG but Steve's choosing to ignore that.
5:39 Jim Kid was very excited back in the newsroom wondering what would come on WCKG at 5:30. He must be very disappointed then.
5:40 WCKG was supposed to be Christmas music, as reported in several papers. Steve's caught in the middle of a weird chess match between WCKG and other stations over Christmas music and girl music. He's trying to stay neutral, like Switzerland.
5:41 It's weird when you realize that the people you worked for are out of their minds and this is all over 300 Christmas records.
5:42 Buzz loves the Jack FM logo on the microphone. They weren't there on Friday so someone must have snuck in and changed them. It's good in case Steve and Buzz forget what station they're on. Buzz does have problems with the call letters sometimes.
5:43 Steve and Buzz don't actually have to say the call letters any more, that's handled in the commercials by Jack. Although the guy who does the voice is named Howard and he's referred to as such in meetings. It's very confusing because Steve always thinks they're talking about Howard Stern.
5:44 So maybe Buzz doesn't want to talk about the hair transplant. Or does he? Steve's confused. He traded live reads for the hair transplant right? That was part of the deal but not the entire thing.
5:45 Is Steve supposed to go to the break? He wants to do that but there's a song there, should he remove that? There's a lot of people hanging out around here, too many really.
5:46 Steve doesn't know what they're going to do other than have all this burned into their heads. They're all sitting in their offices, in their suits thinking "this is it, really? Can you at least play 6 songs an hour?
5:51 Steve's gonna need that fellar to say the call letters right there because there was nothing. Good thing they put on those mic flags.
5:52 There was a little bit of a dust-up on Friday over the color of the mic flags. Steve saw them brought down on Friday in boxes as if they were communion in a Catholic church. There is a Jack Bible of some sort that has all the stuff you need to know like the Jack smarmy attitude.
5:53 But the mic flags are supposed to be blue and they're white. Blue pops better on TV, not that there are any Tv crews here filming this.
5:54 Caller Bob wanted to welcome Steve to the new station. He has nothing to add though, he just wanted to say hello. Steve doesn't know if he can count this as the first call.
5:55 Bob's just heading to work in Markham. At the courthouse? Because Steve's been there for various things. All the charges were cleared though.
5:56 Bob works in the railroad industry, loading up those piggyback trailers onto cars. Those trailers were featured prominently in Heroes this season, Peter Petrelli was found in one.
5:57 Bob finds a lot of people in those. Sometimes people come from Mexico hidden in lettuce. When Steve and Buzz save up enough money for Asian sex slaves they'll come over in one of those trailers. Can Bob be on the look out for them?
5:58 Steve wouldn't fill it with lettuce though, he'd have ramen in there and a big thermos of hot water.
5:59 Bob's car is very quiet. He's got a '79 Nova but he's not a collector, it's just an old, well-kept car. The kids have their cars so this is the car he drives to work. The wife doesn't drive which explains the '79 Nova.
6:00 If your wife drives you can always shove the old car off on her. A '79 Nova is technically an antique, he could probably get those special plates.
6:01 Bob's going to have to let Steve go, he's very nervous. Bob has to let Steve go? After all the work he did to make this a good call?
6:02 Bob is the big winner of the bonus prize, how appropriate.
6:03 Caller Steve (Steve on Steve on Jack with Buzz watching) is driving an '06 Taurus. That's not even exciting. He just wanted to say how much better and clearer Steve sounds out in Homer Glen. Is that town named after Homer Simpson, Glen Campbell or both?
6:04 For some reason down in that area there's a dead zone because of a suburban station. There should be no suburban station.
6:05 Steve's just trying to get an idea of what callers are doing right now. Steve's also on his way to work downtown, he's a roofer.
6:06 Roofers are crazy. They once gave a young Buzz Kilman drugs. We were going to hear that anyone so Steve's trying to get ahead of it.
6:07 Buzz doesn't remember exactly what the drug was but it was an anti-psychotic which seemed completely inappropriate. If you're roofing it seems like you'd want speed or something.
6:08 In Steve's drinking days whenever he was in a bar and something crazy was going on it was a roofer. You can't blame them considering how perilous their job is. And on a roof it's always either too hot or too cold.
6:09 Steve does like the purposefulness and linear nature of the roofing job though, everything goes on in order. Steve's other favorite thing about roofers is that they always set the roof on fire with those torches.
6:10 Out by where Steve lives, in Marge Glen, his neighbor was having his roof done. They had the torch up there and every time they set it down a small fire would start. Then they'd notice it, put it out and move the torch to another place. Steve saw 50 fires break out on this guy's roof.
6:11 Caller Scott fell asleep last night listening to Steve on the rebroadcast. Steve accidentally heard himself this morning, when are they going to stop that? Scott woke up this morning thinking he was still hearing the rebroadcast. Steve's going to be on everywhere now, like Castro. He'll just be giving rambling, 5 hour diatribes about nothing.
6:12 Scott has some info about the antique plates. You're technically not supposed to drive them that often so you can't drive to work.
6:13 Speaking of driving Steve was a little irritated with the pokiness of some of the drivers out there today.
6:14 What's Scott doing out there? It sounds like he's playing shuffleboard. He's actually cleaning out the cat litter box. He has a scoop right?
6:15 Is it easy to fall asleep to a rebroadcast of Steve's show? It actually keeps Scott awake longer. He missed a lot of this stuff before so he's catching up.
6:18 Steve just got really excited because he thought it was 7:17 but then he realized the clock hadn't be set back. What kind of radio station does have a clock that changes for daylight savings? It's unfair to do that to someone.
6:24 Alright, Steve Dahl Show with Buzz Kilman on Jack FM. We're also on WCKG at least for today. There's a full contingent of WCKG people and Jack FM people. One of the nice things about being on in the mornings is that no one is here. So everyone should just go back home and we'll start over.
6:25 Someone will have to change the clock in the studio though because once again Steve looked up and thought it was 7:25. Steve has 4 other clocks in the studio with different times but at least they have the hour and minute correctly.
6:26 You would think they'd switch the studio clock. That must be the last thing left over from Drew and WCKG. Drew's still here for some reason even though he's dead to us. Maybe if he got in earlier before the whole thing wouldn't have gone to Mexican enchilada recipes.
6:27 Buzz saw Dan Falato here too, sitting with some guy he didn't know. Dan has a bad morning look doesn't he? His afternoon look isn't great but in the morning it looks like he just got hit by a bus.
6:28 Caller Maria just wanted to say congratulations for coming to Jack. Maria is Mexican, that's how Steve likes his Marias.
6:29 Maria wanted to let Steve know that he might cause a break-up between her and her boyfriend. Normally he calls to wake her up and then keeps her company on her ride to work but he called three times when she was on hold and she didn't switch over.
6:30 Steve doesn't want to break up any relationships. Why isn't the boyfriend there to wake her up though? Maria's boyfriend doesn't know why she's not answering either. He probably thinks there's another dude with her.
6:31 Maria's boyfriend probably hates Steve doesn't he? She'll defend him until she's blue in the face which he must love.
6:32 Maria loves Buzz and she's also never heard Brendan's voice until now. Brendan's available if she becomes single soon.
6:33 Right now there's a guy going out of his mind trying to figure out why Maria's not answering the phone. She better call him when she gets off the air. Steve doesn't want to read about any of this in the paper or see the guy up here. Security is very lax around here.
6:34 Alright Buzz has some headlines, does he need any special headline stuff?
6:35 There's a writer's strike on and yet Buzz still wrote the headlines. There's supposed to be audio of a striker but Steve doesn't have any.
6:36 Steve could do a voice for Buzz while we wait for the audio. Jim has the audio now, there was some confusion but it's his fault. Is it his fault because he doesn't want a donut thrown at him?
6:37 The writers want more money for the DVD releases which doesn't seem like too much to ask. It costs a dollar to make a DVD and they want 8¢.
6:38 Barack Obama had admitted for the first time publicly that he is distantly related to Dick Cheney. Was that on SNL? He was on last Saturday wearing a Barack Obama mask.
6:39 We have a celebrity bust in Chicago. Shia LaBeouf was arrested in a Walgreen's and appeared to be drunk. His credits include Disturbia, which Buzz saw, The Greatest Game Ever Played and Indiana Jones.
6:40 Good news for George Ryan, he's been reassigned to a facility in Oxford, Wisconsin and not the "hell-hole" in Minnesota as described by former governor Dan Walker
6:41 You have to think that any prison is going to be a hell-hole to a governor.
6:42 Steve doesn't get why they kick you out of a Walgreen's if you're drunk. He was probably trying out the colognes or something.
6:48 Steve went up to New Buffalo for a condo board meeting over the weekend. Buzz can't even get up to the third floor for his meetings but Steve goes to New Buffalo.
6:49 Steve's glad he went though. The board president does an acrostic for every meetings that outlines what he wants to talk about. The one on Saturday spelled out "Jack FM" which was sort of weird since Steve was sitting there.
6:50 Everyone at the meeting knew about the switch to mornings though. It was the best meeting Steve's ever been to because it was about him but not really. All he had to do was sit there and have some coffee and a sweet roll.
6:51 On the way back Steve stopped at the Lincoln Oasis for a sugar-free Red Bull, which he fully expects to be a spokesman for shortly. He tried to use the bathroom at the On-the-Go but ironically it wasn't open.
6:52 By the way Tom Thayer is coming up at 7:00 to talk about the nonexistent Bears game. That's the best kind because it means they didn't lose.
6:53 OK back to Shia LeBeouf He was in Chicago this weekend filming his new movie Eagle Eye. According to Bill Zwecker if he'd "kept an eagle eye on his public behavior, he might not be facing a charge of misdemeanor criminal trespassing."
6:54 He was arrested at the Walgreens at 757 N. Michigan which means he's staying at either the Peninsula or the Four Seasons.
6:55 A security guard told the Transformers star several times that he wasn't welcome in the store. When he refused to leave he was detained. That's pretty low, being detained by a store security guard.
6:56 Prior to his arrested LeBeouf spent the evening partying at The Underground nightclub with owner Billy Dec. Billy Dec, in the news again.
6:57 Billy Dec probably should have made sure Shia got back to his hotel room. Of course this only heightens Billy's media presence. He probably had someone drop him off at Walgreens.
6:58 Eagle Eye begins filming in the suburbs on Tuesday and moves to the city by the weekend. The film is about a slacker who hooks up with a single mom, played by Rosario Dawson. Then the two get mixed up with a terrorist cell plotting a political assassination. C'mon! Can't we just watch him hooking up with Rosario Dawson?
6:59 LeBeouf won a daytime Emmy for Even Stevens and also appeared in Transformers, Holes. He also won the coveted role of Indiana Jones' son in the next Indiana Jones movie. He seems like a pretty big star, can't he have the concierge get something?
7:00 Alright Tom Thayer is on the phone. He probably didn't want to hear the Devin Hester reception touchdown call. That's not going to be put him in a good mood.
7:01 Steve woke up at 4:00 AM today which is very different than when he used to do mornings. Back then he went from partying right to work. Steve didn't have to stay up late because Tom and Jeff weren't on NBC last night. He was in bed by 10:30.
7:02 Steve was going to leave by 4:30 but that's what he set his alarm for. Tom imagines it only takes the helicopter 10 minutes to get down here.
7:03 Steve didn't take the chopper because there's nowhere to land it. Can't he repel out of the helicopter? Steve forgot he had that skill.
7:04 With this segment being on Monday morning now Tom will not have the time to watch the game tape and the tape for the next opponent. Does he want to move this to Tuesdays?
7:05 Steve's good with Mondays but it's up to Tom. Steve likes having him on Mondays because by Tuesday everyone has moved on to the next week.
7:06 Next Monday Tom will probably be just getting off the plane from Oakland when he calls in so the game will be fresh in his mind. Tom does watch some of the game film on the flight home. Do they show that as an in-flight movie?
7:07 Some of the coaches have laptops so players can watch some of the game films. There's no drinking on the flights any more though right?
7:08 A few guys had to ruin it for everyone. It doesn't seem right that a grown man plays a football game and then can't even have a beer on the way home.
7:09 Players can pay for tickets on a commercial flight but the whole set-up with the buses to and from the airport is pretty convenient.
7:10 When you have drinking on the plane then you have guys driving home. That's how Ditka got pulled over that one time. Steve's pretty sure he was the type you see on COPS who's kicking the window out of the squad car.
7:11 Steve saw Coach on the CBS yesterday and they left his mic on a little too long. It seems like he was annoyed that Bill Parcells was even there though.
7:12 Tom has noticed that Ditka is getting a lot better with the information and analysis he has for games. Now that he's definitely not getting back into coaching he doesn't have to worry about what he's saying or who he's offending.
7:13 Tom just saw Coach at a dinner at St. Francis University in Joliet and it was as good of a public speaking job as he's ever seen. Did he do the Man in the Mirror speech?
7:14 Alright so the Bears are playing at Oakland this Sunday, Steve doesn't even know what to think about it. Tom's really excited for the game but he always says that.
7:15 The Raiders are a bad team. The Bears are too but they have more big-time playmakers. The Bears will have Vasher back too and the Raiders have a terrible run defense.
7:16 Hopefully the Bears can go out there and beat Oakland and do the same against Seattle and get on some sort of roll.
7:17 Steve sees that Oprah's on TV talking about all this school stuff. Who cares about this? Why do people care?
7:18 It's one school in South Africa, Steve doesn't care. It's not his problem and he doesn't need it to be his problem.
7:25 Jeff Joniak left a message with congrats on the new morning timeslot. He said Steve and Buzz were "ridiculous!"
7:26 Did Tom tell Jeff that he needs to work on copyrighting "ridiculous"? Tom doesn't think Jeff has Steve's business savvy.
7:27 Steve saw Jeff using it on an ad for Schaumburg Toyota or something. What's he doing?!
7:28 The Bears do have the most exciting player in the NFL other than Adrian Peterson on the Vikings. That guy on the Chargers returned a missed field goal for 109 yards yesterday but no one had done that before Devin Hester did last year.
7:29 Tom can't see anyone getting as close to being out-of-bounds as that guy was yesterday. He actually bent over the line to catch it while keeping his feet in-bounds. But the odds of returning more missed field goals is pretty good because the field goal team is a bunch of sluggos like Tom.
7:30 Steve enjoyed the Patriots/Colts game yesterday. He knew going in that the Patriots would win. It didn't help the Colts that they didn't have Marvin Harrison at wide receiver.
7:31 Steve's favorite part of yesterday's game was at the end when that Wes Welker guy started swearing at someone on the Colts who must have been getting on him all day. You could hear it very clearly on TV.
7:32 You have to wonder why the Dolphins got rid of Wes Welker before the season even started. The good news is they're doing fine without him. They're going for a perfect season.
7:33 Before we take the calls Steve's going to read the daily poll question at Dahl.com. It's sealed in an envelope which he can't seem to open. Today's question is who would be a good follow-up to Tom Brady, the new spokesman for Stetson Cologne. The options are Steve, Buzz and Brendan and you can vote at Dahl.com.
7:34 Buzz just saw on TV that Oprah is calling herself a "mama bear" to all of her students at the South African school. Steve's not the one who told her to open a $50 million school in South Africa.
7:35 Oprah's probably just trying to tie all this in with her own molesting incident as a kid. She was felt-up by her uncle but who wasn't?
7:36 Caller Marty was wondering what Tom thought about Buzz getting the hair transplant. Tom is also follicly-challenged.
7:37 Buzz has a lot of material for whenever the next live read comes up. Last week Steve complimented Buzz for sitting on it and now he doesn't want him to.
7:38 Marty's just causing trouble here. He's going to break Steve and Buzz up on their first day on mornings.
7:39 Marty just wanted to thank the Bears for beating the Packers this season. He was up in Wisconsin over the weekend and that's the only thing he could throw back at Packers fans.
7:40 How about that Bret Favre though? Steve thought he retired last year, what happened? He was on the sidelines on New Year's Eve at Soldier Field crying while Rex Grossman figured out his plans.
7:41 Alright something is happening here that Steve has to deal with right now. Dean Richards has wandered into the studio. Steve and Buzz are going to be on WGN Morning News in a few minutes.
7:42 Tom can stay on if he wants and just randomly say things like "you suck!" The Deaner is here and he's got Steve's show in one ear and his show in the other. Steve's going to put WGN up on the studio TVs so Buzz can seem himself.
7:43 It'll also allow Dean to see his own bald head. Buzz doesn't want to talk about the hair transplants but we keep running into bald guys this morning. Dean thinks this would be the perfect opportunity to unveil his new look.
7:44 Alright WGN is going to Dean live right now. Steve's looking the other way, he's trying to turn himself off now. He does not want to see himself on TV.
7:45 Does Dean have a probing question for Steve? Does he need to loosen his pants or anything? Dean was wondering the last time Steve did a morning show.
7:46 In the last 12 years the only time Steve has gotten up this early is to appear on the WGN Morning News. So Steve hasn't done a morning show in 12 years.
7:47 Steve got up at 4:30 AM and he's doing fine so far. The biggest disappointment for him was when he weighed himself and he was four pounds heavier. He's hoping that's just some water weight.
7:48 Dean noticed that Steve has lost some weight. He actually lost about 400-500 pounds. Do Steve and Buzz get to talk to Robin and Larry or are they just in the bathroom?
7:49 Robin's here, she had a chance to listen to some of the 24-hours a day of Best of Dahl. There was some good stuff she never had the chance to hear because she wasn't in the car.
7:53 Alright it's the Steve Dahl Show on Jack FM, also simulblasting on WCKG at least for today. Steve and Buzz are still in their old studio though, the same studio Steve's been in for 12 years.
7:54 The only way that Steve knows he's on a different station is because of the Jack FM mic flags. They say "We Play What We Want." Steve's going to say that on this show "We Say What We Want"
7:55 Live read: Townstone Financial
7:56 Today's live read is about Drew and Jeff who live together with their dog Momma. Is this a fake live read or are Drew and Jeff, two former program directors at WCKG, living together?
7:57 Steve can to impersonations of both Drew and Buzz, the situation probably calls for it. Steve's going to start over then.
7:58 This live read is creepily weird. Maybe Jeff and David need to go into therapy. Drew probably just wants to be left out of it. He got here at 4:30 AM just to make sure everything went off without a hitch. Why is he still here anyway?!
7:59 And now David Hochberg is here. Steve really doesn't want to see him but he might as well talk since he's here.
8:00 David brought two carts full of Dr. Pepper cases and he's winded. What if he had a heart attack live on the air, that would be a great capper to the live read. Then Buzz can go into his paramedic character from Silence of the Lambs.
8:01 Steve doesn't even really like Dr. Pepper but David keeps bringing it in. Buzz doesn't really like it either, but periodically he'll say "I always forget I like Dr. Pepper." He just likes it because he can drink it warm but he never really does.
8:02 Steve appreciates David's sponsorship and he does like Dr. Pepper but not this much. Now he has 8 cases to deal with. Instead of spending all that money on Dr. Pepper why not just come in and lay a c-note on Steve?
8:03 What did the security guard say when David wheeled in 8 cases of Dr. Pepper? The security guards don't care who comes in here so they didn't say anything. That's probably why they've tightened up security on the 9th floor for B96. At Eddie and Jobo's age they should just feel lucky to have a stalker.
8:04 Steve's been told to wrap it up with David because there are other guests coming in. It seems like Buzz and David are fast friends, maybe they could have breakfast after the show.
8:05 Steve shudders to think what will happen to him next. So far it's been Dean Richards, then David Hochberg. Next time, bring in a C-note.
8:06 Now Ron Lewis, Steve's accountant is here. When Steve's mad at him he calls him his accountant. Ron brought some food for Steve and Buzz, luckily they have 8 cases of Dr. Pepper to wash it down with.
8:07 Ron is Jewish so he likes to commemorate things with food. That's fine with Steve although he's not Jewish, he's Lutheran. Ron has brought Steve a Reuben sandwich which is what Steve sent out for back in his drinking day when the deli opened at 8:00 AM.
8:08 Reuben's are the perfect hangover food because it's made up of all the food groups. Ron came all they way down to bring Steve food? If Steve were David or Ron he wouldn't bring anything in for an ungrateful jerk.
8:09 Also here is Brad from Eleven City Diner. Are they open this early? Since Ron is here he needs to be aware that David Hochberg will be wiring him $100 every week so he should be on the look out for that.
8:10 Ron's probably here because he knows about Jack's Acoustic Sunrise show over the weekend. They don't have hosts though. Ron should stay away from all the programming guys, they'll chew him up and spit him out.
8:11 What's Ron going to do now that he's here this early? Normally he comes in after a meeting ends early and makes Tina and Stephanie do stuff for him. Then he waits around until the Sox game starts.
8:17 That's a message from Richard Lewis right there. A little bird told Steve that Buzz was behind those. It was his idea, he said it was standard in the radio industry.
8:18 Steve likes them on tape too because he doesn't have to interact with them. They're all his friends but they're his showbiz friends.
8:19 Originally Buzz said they should be live. If they're recorded though it frees up time for David Hochberg and Ron Lewis to come in.
8:20 Steve had to take the Reuben out of the studio because he can't be eating that at 8:00 AM. He'll be napping by 9:00. Those thing reheat though, especially when they're open-faced.
8:21 Pat Boyle is on the phone, he's wondering how many sugar-free Red Bulls Steve has had. He's alternating between coffee and Red Bulls right now.
8:22 Steve might have had too many Red Bulls over the weekend and his system is all thrown off. He might need to drink more water or something.
8:23 Pat's going to be on with Steve and Buzz everyday so he'll be up early too. He was up at 6:00 AM today so he missed the first half hour. That's not much of a commitment from Pat is it?
8:24 At the time Pat thought maybe he should listen to the first half hour. He was able to catch that guy with the '79 Nova who won the bonus prize.
8:25 Steve didn't have a Bears game to watch yesterday but they managed to lose ground in the NFC North anyway. Everyone in the NFC North beat an AFC team too.
8:26 Steve liked that the Bears game wasn't on because then he didn't have to see them lose. And the Pats/Colts game was pretty exciting.
8:27 That was arguably the game of the century. Both teams have defenses and ways to win games. Both QBs threw interceptions but made up for it later.
8:28 Steve liked seeing Peyton Manning flopping around on the ground and pounding his fist. Steve likes Peyton on commercials but on the field he's doing too much during every play.
8:29 He'd rather have Tom Brady, yelling at the officials at the end of the game. And Steve's starting to like that Bill Belichick guy too. He'd rather have that in a football game, he's sick of hearing about how nice Tony Dungy is.
8:30 What does Buzz think about the Pats chances for running the table and winning every game like his '72 Dolphins. Buzz was actually rooting for Baltimore yesterday but he thinks the Patriots can go undefeated.
8:31 Buzz says Baltimore, he's old school. Steve says it too all the time. Right now the only thing keeping Buzz going is Notre Dame. How about that game on Saturday?
8:32 Notre Dame lost to Navy for the first time in 43 years, in triple overtime. The best thing is watching Charlie Weis, who looks like he's getting ready to paint his house. Then since they're so steeped in tradition the team has to stay on the field and sing that stupid song.
8:33 Two of Pat's brother-in-laws went to Navy so he knows they were really excited. Pat really married into a good family. It has to be a come down when they find out he went to Columbia.
8:34 Pat actually went to Michigan State. That was a pretty exciting game over the weekend, even if Michigan State lost. Pat probably watches 100 football games a year and he never really gets emotional about them. If the Bears lose he's bummed out. On Saturday he went nuts when that game ended. He started kicking stuff and screaming, all in front of his 4-year old daughter. At least he didn't kick her though.
8:35 Steve understands that Pat has some audio he'd like to play. Normally Pat's the one asking stupid questions after games but this week the stupidest question is from Larry King, interviewing Jerry Seinfeld about his new movie.
8:36 Steve accidentally fired off the commercial break, can Pete re-rack that? It must be all the Red Bull he's had.
8:37 Larry asked Jerry if Seinfeld was canceled or if he left the show. At some point during Seinfeld's run Larry probably did an entire week of shows from their set but he doesn't know if they got canceled.
8:43 Alright Dean Richards is back. He did a report earlier from The Green Room which is way nicer than the one at WGN. Up there all they have is a toilet.
8:44 Steve's favorite part about doing the WGN Morning News is the make-up woman who wears the surgical mask. That's always a great thing to see first thing in the morning.
8:45 WGN is in a break right now which will give Steve time to do his own commercial. He can interrupt if need-be.
8:46 Live read: Townstone FInancial
8:47 So what's going on with Dean lately? He's a man of many Tribunes, he's on TV and he's still got the morning show on Sundays. A lot of his celebrity interviews just get transcribed for the Red Eye too.
8:48 They're back at WGN but not quite ready for Steve. They're not doing an obesity story going right into Steve are they? This morning driving in Dean heard a promo on Jack for Steve that said "larger than life just got larger."
8:49 There are worse promos than that. It's fine when you're doing that going into an Eddie Money song but not on Steve's show.
8:50 Alright they're ready for Steve at WGN now. Dean was just going to ask Steve if there are going to be any changes at Jack now that he's on the station. Everything is fine as it is, it's just him on the station so it's all about him.
8:51 Dean wanted to know what happens to WCKG now that Steve's gone. Steve knows but he's not at liberty to say. If he told Dean he'd have to kill him.
8:52 Steve doesn't really want to answer these questions. Who does Dean think he is, Rob Feder? He looks like Rob Feder.
8:53 Dean actually knows what's happening on WCKG at 10:00 today but he's not sure if he can say. He probably can, it's OK.
8:54 Dean was told that at 10:00 they'll start airing the best of all the CBS stations in town. It's a CBS Sampler.
8:55 Hoover from WGN is here too, thanks to him. What time does he wake up in the morning to get his hair looking like that? He acts like it's a just-out-of-bed look but it's not.
8:56 Headlines with Buzz
8:57 The WGA strike has begun and it could effect some of your favorite shows. Steve's pretty sure the WBBM-AM newswriters are also on strike, that's probably why Drew is here.
8:58 Oprah will change hiring practices at her school in South Africa. WHO CARES?! It's a school in South Africa with 40 girls, why should Steve care?
8:59 We've got a robbery on the South Side. This isn't breaking news but Buzz likes to give it a sense of urgency. 17 puppies were stolen from a pet store on the South Side.
9:00 What do they do with these puppies then? Do they just sell them? Buzz didn't think there was much money in puppies. Steve saw on the news last night that some of the dogs sold for $600-$700.
9:01 Apparently there's a black market for puppies that Buzz wasn't aware of until now.
9:02 The New York Marathon had it's own death yesterday. They're always trying to keep up with us. Former Notre Dame football player Ryan Shay collapsed and died during the marathon.
9:03 And finally some tragedy from the sporting world. The Fabulous Moolah has died. She was a little before Buzz's time though. She was around sometime in the 20s or 30s.
9:04 Plainfield pipefitter Craig Stebic sympathizes with what Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson is going through. Steve had no idea Stebic was a pipefitter. Plainfield Pipefitter sounds like his wrestling name.
9:05 Maybe Stebic and Peterson can get together and find their missing wives.
9:06 Caller Todd has been listening for 20 years. It only seems like a long time, it's just been since 5:30.
9:07 Todd wanted to let Steve and Buzz know that Ryan Shay passed away in the US Olympic marathon time trials. That was Saturday, on Sunday they had the regular New York Marathon.
9:08 Also Shay didn't play football at Notre Dame, he was a track and field star. Now that he's dead who is Todd going to stalk? Luckily he's got plenty of other marathon runners in their Hooters shorts.
9:09 Buzz is trying to figure out how is reporting went so wrong. Is he ready for Steve's Man in the Mirror speech?
9:10 OK back to Craig Stebic. His public sympathy for Drew Peterson has left his in-laws confused after he began denying them visitation rights with their grandchildren.
9:11 This missing wife thing is turning into a cottage industry. Ever since Laci Peterson the whole country has become interested in missing wives, especially when the husband is a suspect.
9:12 Caller Laura has another correction for Buzz. The Fabulous Moolah also wrestled in the WWF. She was an old lady though!
9:13 Laura has also won the bonus prize. That's two today, is it in the budget? Hopefully it doesn't come out of Steve and Buzz's pockets. Buzz doesn't even have pockets.
9:14 Two in one day isn't a record as far as Steve knows. Three would be the record though, we still have until 10:00 to make that happen. Buzz feels pretty good about it.
9:15 Everyone's a winner on the Steve Dahl Show, except that one guy from last week who's still waiting for Steve to play Foghat.
9:16 Melanie Greenberg, spokeswoman for the Stebic family, has been in contact with Stacy Peterson's sister, advising them to start a website. They should just have a template for these missing wife websites. Just plug in the names and photographs.
9:23 How is Brendan finding time to answer phones and vote for himself in the new Dahl.com web poll? He's got 39% of the vote.
9:24 Caller Steve just spotted Big Steve. That's impressive that he's out and about already. The station's already doing stuff which is good.
9:25 Caller Steve is very fidgety, what's he doing out there? He's driving, he hauls a tanker truck.
9:26 Steve's hauling liquid sugar and he got it all over him. Although if he gets hungry he can lick his pants.
9:27 Steve saw Big Steve and 44th and Pulaski. Buzz though Frijole Joe was still in Big Steve.
9:28 Joe works for Steve so conceivably he works for Jack. What's he doing at 44th a nd Pulaski though? Shouldn't he be closer to the Stevenson?
9:29 Steve was on the Stevenson when he saw him. It's good to hear Big Steve isn't just wandering through the neighborhoods scaring kids.
9:30 In general it seems like the Jack people are much better organized than the WCKG people. Although when a station isn't making any money it's hard to get anything done.
9:31 It would probably take a year to get new mic flags at WCKG. It's not in the budget! And Peter and Todd from Jack didn't like the mic flags because they weren't blue. They don't pop on TV. So they ordered new ones.
9:32 The Jack FM studios are right below Steve and sometimes the kids running the board down there would have it cranked up a little too high and then we'd have to send someone down there. No we don't have to because Steve's on the air.
9:33 Steve's looking at the coverage of the Stacy Peterson thing. The way these people are canvassing the area doesn't look effective at all. If she was just laying out in a field they would have found her already.
9:34 Caller Maggie, wake up, Steve's got something to say to you. Maggie saw Big Steve holding a sign that said "Jack FM 104.3" but it look crudely made. That's Frijole Joe, he always drops the ball somehow. He's like our own Cedric Benson.
9:35 To be fair to Frijole Joe, he did have Big Steve down in Florida during the whole Terry Schiavo thing.
9:36 Keith Olberman saw it and put it on his show. He said it was poignant social commentary. That's Steve's middle name!
9:37 Maggie was just glad she got to see Steve morning on her way to work. She only has to go from Harlem to California. Does she work at the courthouse?
9:38 Maggie does not work for the courthouse, Steve sounds so disappointed. Steve likes a good lock-up, something could probably be arranged.
9:39 Maggie does work for the county though. Buzz thought she said "commies".
9:40 Steve was trying to tell his boys this the other day but they didn't care, so he'll tell Maggie. 30 years ago when Steve was being wined and dined to get him to Chicago, one of the places they took him was a new pizza place that had just been voted the best in the city by Chicago Magazine.
9:41 That was the original Giordano's near the courthouse and it was just this little place and deep-dish was all the rage. You had to wait an hour and a half just to get a table.
9:48 There you go, Steve's crass and insightful. Keith Olberman really gets Steve.
9:49 Alright it's the Steve Dahl Show on Jack FM. We need to get some rejoins that say that coming back from the breaks.
9:50 How does Buzz feel about the Jack promos that slam Steve going into every break? Buzz isn't a fan and Steve's tired of it.
9:51 Buzz wants to chalk it up to some first day wackiness. Don't take it out on Steve though! He's the only live guy on the station and all he's hearing is that he's fat and no one wants to listen to him.
9:52 The Jack guys were worried that people who normally listen in the mornings would be mad that there's no music. Those promos don't seem like a good way to make those people happy though.
9:53 Steve remembers being in meetings and saying all those promos would be funny but he didn't think they'd run during the actual show. He didn't think he'd get done talking and then Jack would say he's a fat jerk. That's true but what's at issue is who gets to say it.
9:54 Is there anything Buzz needs to do or tell us? Everything seemed to have gone pretty well this morning. Thanks to Mary and Pete and Jim and Brendan and Tina and Stephanie. And Adam and Mark too. Everything went well.
9:55 Thanks to Buzz too of course and all the engineers. There were no technical difficulties and we had a TV station in here too.
9:56 There was sort of a sad moment with Drew in the hallway but he's got a bagel and some lox so he's fine with that. He did bring Sherman Kaplan down to enjoy the bagels too.
9:57 Buzz got to meet Sherman and he called him a legend, and a well-promoed one at that. Sherman was a little embarrassed and didn't quite get what it meant. Steve doesn't get it either.
9:58 Did Buzz notice that he and Sherman have the same look? The only difference is that Sherman has his shirt tucked in, that's how you can tell he's on a news station.
9:59 The next hour will be free on Jack FM which is good. If people have been listening to this show they've heard everything they need to hear from humans.
10:00 Thanks also to Tom Thayer and Pat Boyle, he'll be on the show every morning. Also thanks to David Hochberg and Ron Lewis who schlepped all the way down from his place in Evanston.
