5:31 Aerosmith, Janie's Got a Gun. Steve remembers when that song was a big deal. The video was some story about a dude nailing his daughter and then she gets a gun and kills him.
5:32 And rightly so too. It's even frowned upon to nail your step-daughter but it probably sounds better in court.
5:33 Buzz is waiting for Steve to work in how he nailed his goddaughter. That's far enough removed though. Even Woody Allen nailing his adopted daughter was frowned upon.
5:34 Steve knows this is wrong and fanciful but he always thinks the young Asian girls, like Sun Yi, will be able to cook good Chinese food. It doesn't even matter what nationality they are, he just thinks they'll cook great Chinese food.
5:35 Steve has a goddaughter-that he doesn't plan on nailing-and she's Chinese. Steve always assumes that one day she'll be able to whip him up a great Chinese meal.
5:36 Steve's sure she won't be able to cook him Chinese food because she came here when she was very young. The parents perpetuate the notion that she'll be able to cook good Chinese food by always ordering take-out.
5:37 Steve was watching that new Geoffrey Baer special on WTTW on Tuesday. Why does he have to go with the hard G pronunciation of his name? Steve thinks it's the channel 11 thing.
5:38 The new special is all about Chicago food and there was an entire thing about how food in Chinatown isn't really Chinese food. That's not what people eat in China. They came here because they didn't have food and they tried to approximate their dishes based on what we had available here.
5:39 Plus it was all just amateur cooks coming up with stuff like Egg Foo Yung. It's too bad they don't have any of that stuff in China, our version of Chinese food rocks.
5:40 Won Kow is the oldest restaurant in Chinatown which is where the show broadcast during that egg roll competition. It was Chinese New Year and they had some big fireworks display they were going to light off at the end of the show.
5:41 Steve went down to the street to cover the lighting for the show and about a thousand M80s went off right next to his head. He would have gone deaf if he hadn't had his headphones on.
5:42 Steve's OK with not eating real Chinese food. He's not up for a duck foot with a meatball in it. The foot is a great holding device for a meatball though.
5:43 Janie's Got a Gun is about a girl named Janie who gets revenge on her father for sexually abusing her. It's one of the few Aerosmith songs to deal with such a heavy issue, assuming the guys in the band think it's a heavy issue. They might just think it's hot.
5:44 Steven Tyler came up with the title and melody before he knew what direction he wanted the song to take. That doesn't surprise Steve. It wasn't until after he read a Newsweek article about gunshot wounds that he was able to tie that in with abuse and incest.
5:45 The lyric "he jacked a little baby" was originally "he raped a little baby" but was changed for commercial purposes. You rarely see a song with the word "rape" make it into the top 10.
5:46 The video was directed by then-video and now filmmaker David Fincher. Buzz might know who he is but Steve doesn't.
5:47 So we're starting off the show with a think piece, good morning.
5:51 Steve learned on that Geoffrey Baer show that chop suey was probably invented in New York. He'll credit that show for the first few times he says it but then after that he'll just act like he knew it.
5:52 People don't spend their entire lives crediting school textbooks when they talk about stuff they learned in school.
5:53 It seemed like everything on that WTTW show was Googled anyway, that was the feel of it.
5:54 Caller John is a Drive-In Reviews fan. Buzz's fans really live in the past. Not that Steve's fans don't with Disco Demolition and all. David Fincher is the director of Seven, Fight Club and Zodiac. Buzz was just abused by Jim for not knowing that.
5:55 Buzz's fans like to make arcane references and then abuse him for not knowing something. How could you not know who the third zombie from the left was!
5:56 John feels Seven is a better movie than Silence of the Lambs. Steve can't even watch that all the way through. He likes when Ted Levine tells the girl to put the lotion on and then Buzz's part but that's it. Steve remembers him berating the girl from being chubby, but he was also excited about it because it meant more skin.
5:57 Steve also learned on that WTTW special that Chicago is still responsible for 40% of the world's pork rind production and most of it is exported to Mexico.
5:58 What is John doing up so early? He's just getting ready to take a shower and go to work. That's sort of creepy, John still has his pajamas on right?
5:59 John doesn't have his pajamas on and he just got off the treadmill. So he's nude and sweaty? John's doing a half hour on the treadmill now but he just started.
6:00 Steve likes to walk on an incline on his treadmill. He also recommends one of those polar heart rate monitors. You put your weight in there and it tells you how many calories you're burning.
6:01 The heart rate monitors seem better than the chart they have on the treadmill. It doesn't make sense that you can work less and burn more calories.
6:02 It doesn't seem like John's going to take Steve's advice here though. If Buzz told him the heart rate monitor was helpful in warding off vampires he'd probably get one.
6:03 Steve is still running outside though. He had to fleece it up the other day because it was really cold out. He also has that mask on that makes him look like some sort of criminal. All the neighborhood kids were scared.
6:04 Speaking of scary people, Steve was at the Hawks game last night and he didn't see the governor. He heard he was there although it doesn't seem like he should be there. Doesn't he have work to do?
6:05 Steve did the show yesterday, worked out, wrote his blog and then went to the game. On the way home Steve and Matt were listening to the game on the radio because they might have left early. It seemed like the game was going to end at 10:00 and Steve likes to be in bed by 10:30.
6:06 Matt didn't want to leave early but he doesn't have a job. Steve told him he could walk home if he wanted. The whole way home they were praying nothing cool would happen like a Martin Havlat hat trick or something.
6:07 One of the guys doing the Hawks game told a story about how Tuomo Ruutu had been mistakenly arrested earlier in the day because he matched the description of a man who tried to rob an apartment manager's officer.
6:08 This is why you know John McDonough has his work cut out for him marketing the Blackhawks. It doesn't seem like someone on the Blackhawks should be mistakenly arrested. They do wear helmets but people should know what they look like.
6:09 Buzz isn't a hockey fan but he doesn't think he'd recognize Jeremy Roenick or Chris Chelios if they walked in the door.
6:10 Ruutu was on a jog after practice at the Hawks facility in Bensenville.
6:11 Steve just thought it was funny that the guy matched the description of a robber. Those guys are kind of scruffy, plus he was wearing the jogging suit and all.
6:12 Steve thought he had some inside information about this just by listening to the Hawks broadcast but it was all over the place when Steve got home. Troy Murray acted like he was the only one who knew it so kudos to him.
6:13 One weird thing Steve heard at the end of their broadcast was Troy Murray and the other announcer thanking each other for a great broadcast. Steve and Buzz should start doing that at the end of every show.
6:20 Tuomo Ruutu seemed to have a good attitude about what happened to him but he's a hockey player. Those guys are hardcore. That sport is crazy.
6:21 When Buzz was a kid he used to play ice skate chicken. It involved two people getting about 50 yards apart on the ice and then skating towards each other at full speed, colliding and then seeing who would stay up.
6:22 Mark Czerniec has a link to Chris Chelios' Wikipedia entry, he seems to be at a Starbucks. Buzz still doesn't know who he is.
6:23 When he was on the Hawks though, he probably wouldn't have been mistakenly arrested.
6:24 Steve didn't see Blago at the game but he heard he was there. At one point when Steve went to the bathroom he heard some booing but that could have just been when the fat guy comes out to shoot the puck.
6:25 Steve has been that guy before. Steve doesn't really ice skate because when you've been overweight your entire life you don't want to strap something on your feet that will highlight how week your ankles are or make you go out of control. Plus in Southern California there weren't a lot of opportunities to ice skate.
6:26 Steve used to go to Kings game when they first came to LA with his dad and they were usually the only ones there.
6:30 It occurred to Steve yesterday, as he was writing his blog at 5:20 last night that was posted this morning, that there might be a better way to do it.
6:31 Steve was thinking he could write the blog right after the show but the point of the blog is to get people to listen. Maybe he should just post it after he's done writing it. Steve also has an article in the Tribune today.
6:32 Today's web poll question for Dahl.com is "How do you like your toast?" Steve likes it with butter and peanut butter.
6:33 Steve also feels violated whenever someone is making toast in the house. He doesn't like the smell of other people's toast and he's always mad that no one asked him if he wanted any.
6:34 In the old days of toasters, people used to have to lift the bread out themselves and you had a lot of burnt toast.
6:35 Buzz has a combination toaster/oven. A toaster oven? It's actually an oven with a separate toaster which is just what his family needs.
6:36 There's only one manufacturer that makes the toaster/oven and one side of the bread is always cooked more than the other.
6:37 Why doesn't Buzz just go with a toaster oven? Because you can toast bread in those things too. Steve might have altered the course of early morning Kilman activity.
6:38 There's a toaster oven in the Green Room if Buzz would like to take that for a spin. Buzz is going to bring this up at the next Kilman family board meeting.
6:39 Buzz does enjoy the toast popping up though. Toaster ovens don't do that. Buzz has also come to accept the burnt toast that he gets in the toaster/oven. Is that the side he puts the jam on, hiding his shame?
6:40 Steve has some weird territorial issues, like not the toast thing. Jim kid has a toaster down in the office but Buzz has never seen him use it. Hopefully Steve doesn't smell it.
6:41 Steve calls down to the weather center. Jim doesn't have a toaster, he's using the one in the WCFS kitchen. Can't he just say it's the Jack kitchen? Most people don't know that we're still on the same floor and Jack is on the 9th floor.
6:42 Jim even got the new call letters for the station in there. That's Fresh FM, they're not like the old Lite at all. The songs aren't bad but everything else is very lame. Obviously the station is for girls because no guy wants to hear "soft" music, except maybe Pete.
6:43 Pete is not offended by "soft", the station is still on his alarm clock. He loves that Bubbly song. You wouldn't want to change your alarm to the new station or anything.
6:44 A few times in the last few weeks Pete has risen to Bubbly, and yet it's "soft". Steve plays the sample of the song, it's right in Pete's gay wheelhouse. He probably wishes he knew a girl like this but she'd have nothing to do with him.
6:45 Jesus Pete! We're going to have to take him up to Canada and get him some steroids and testosterone. It's too bad Balco isn't in business.
6:46 All of the sudden Fresh FM has money to advertise but they never did when Steve was here. Yesterday at the Hawks game people were asking Steve what happened to him.
6:47 Steve's still getting crazy letters from people about the switch to mornings. It wasn't Steve's idea to turn WCKG into a 24-hour ad for douches and move to a station where there are no people and a guy who comes on with a bad attitude and say she plays what he wants even though it's the same 300 songs over and over.
6:48 Caller Jeff is a gay man and even he thinks Pete listening to that Bubbly song is gay. And there's Pete waking up to it on his alarm clock. This is why Steve Dolinksy mocked him.
6:54 Steve never did find out what Jim kid is toasting down in the office. Buzz thought it was just toast. Pete heard the gay guy who called in before?
6:55 Jim never toasts during the show but afterwards he toasts wheat bread and peanut butter. Who does this at work? Who said this was Pete and Jim's apartment?
6:56 Jim probably stops by Pete's studio to get some coffee and then heads down to the newsroom for some toast. Steve would like to get in on that circuit but the toast isn't being made until after the show.
6:57 Buzz can't possibly have had any toast because he's home before Steve's done saying goodbye at the end of the show.
6:58 Pete's studio looks inviting because he's got the percolator which he purchased at Linens 'n' Things and the cream and sugar. The sugar was in a giant Tupperware container but he has since gotten something smaller.
6:59 If Pete could find Pour Some Sugar on Me in the Jack library that would be handy. That would really start Todd Cavanah's day off right.
7:00 Jim can toast whenever he wants although Steve doesn't like the smell. Why doesn't Jim just go out and get something to eat after the show?
7:01 Jim offers to make Steve some toast. He really doesn't want to eat Jim's inferior, generic peanut butter. Actually, he's using Peter Pan. Is he 5-years old or something? That stuff is all sugar. It's probably creamy too.
7:02 The creamy goes better on apples. Why don't Pete and Jim just tell us what's going on and then they can live together. Ed Silha can come over and make it a three-way.
7:03 Steve has a funny Ed Silha story from last night's Hawks game. Steve went ahead and got season tickets because he needs something to do in the afternoon.
7:04 Steve has some connections so he's got seat right up against the glass. And he is paying for the tickets.
7:05 Steve knew Ed was going to be at the game but didn't tell him where his seats were, as to not bum him out.
7:06 Steve got a text from Ed while he was at the game and he was there with David Hochberg. So he told Steve where the seats were and they came down to say hi.
7:07 David was immediately defensive because Steve's seats were better, although that's not what he was trying to do. Ed Silha on the other hand was like a girl who'd picked the wrong guy.
7:08 It kept getting worse and worse, David was saying how the sightlines weren't great on the glass and stuff like that. The sightlines? As in the game going on right in front of you?
7:09 Steve felt bad for David though. Ed was acting like a woman who realized she'd married the wrong man.
7:10 When Steve and Matt got there there were guys standing in front of their seats watching the warm-ups. Steve had to ask them to move, which they did begrudgingly.
7:11 So the whole time David Hochberg was very defensive about the seats and then as they were leaving Ed said "OK, let's go back to our 200 level seats" like a bitchy wife. Steve's not sure if Ed even realizes what he's doing. It's just like how Pete doesn't listen to Bubbly on purpose, he just doesn't know.
7:12 Do Pete and Jim still know they're on? They need to laugh otherwise Steve sounds really mean. They just left him hanging like a sleeve.
7:13 Live read: Allen Brothers
7:14 Song: Pour Some Sugar on Me, Def Leppard
7:19 Sending that out to Pete and Pete's Perk. He's got the percolator and the cream and sugar in his studio which looks very inviting.
7:20 You can't go into Pete's studio though because there's stuff everywhere and it's very loud. Steve has finally gotten Pete to start turning the volume down a little bit. Will Pete teach Steve how to grasp his coffee mug with both hands to keep warm?
7:21 Pete had his first cup of hot cocoa yesterday while decorating his tree. He's got a girl living with him right? Did Pete keep stepping back from the tree to grab the cocoa with both hands?
7:22 Pete hasn't purchased any egg nog yet but he prefers the stuff he gets at the gas station. Pete is going to bring some in and prove to Steve that it's good. Why doesn't he just order from Peapod?!
7:23 Steve hasn't ordered from Peapod since that female delivery driver refused to bring the food in and put it on his counter. She told him that she's only required to leave the food at the front door which had never happened before.
7:24 It's like the woman thought Steve was going to rape her or something. It made Steve feel creepy. He was so mad that he just gave her the standard $20 tip instead of giving her the lecture about why she's not getting a tip.
7:31 Live read: The Little Guys
7:32 Our own Adam Bailey, formerly of WCKG, couldn't resist The Little Guys and had to buy a TV. It's bigger than he is!
7:33 Buzz's living room has been transformed into an entertainment center and just at the right time because now he has his afternoons free.
7:34 You can also go check out the Sony HES-V1000 home entertainment server.
7:35 So Steve was saying before about all the people who came up to him at the Hawks game wondering what happened to him.
7:36 A lot of people thought he'd just been taken off the air and then there are the people who are mad he's not on in the afternoons.
7:37 What was Steve supposed to do? The station we used to be on doesn't even exist any more.
7:38 Steve got an email from a listener, subject line "our divorce". It's from a longtime listener who says Steve's had some good years and some bad. Why even say that?
7:39 The woman is a waitress who works a lot of double shifts and liked listening to Steve in the afternoons. But now he's left her, for her friend.
7:40 The woman used to like to listen to Jack in the mornings when she power walks because it was all music. What is Steve supposed to say to that?
7:41 The woman can only listen one day a week and that's not enough. So she's going to give up all together? Why can't she just listen in the mornings when she power walks? Steve and Buzz can be just and mind-numbing as music.
7:42 Steve doesn't see the show moving to afternoons any time soon, at least not in the next 3 1/2 years.
7:43 Why even send that to Steve? What is he supposed to do? Does she think he's going to go down the hall, switch the douche station over and then get the old WCKG gang back together? That station is gone and now it's Flaccid 105.9.
7:44 Steve doesn't know what to do with this email. He can be an evil bastard but he'd never send someone something like this.
7:45 And then there were the people at the Hawks game who didn't know what happened to Steve. For the entire last week of the afternoon show he was saying that we were moving to mornings. A few TV commercials wouldn't have hurt.
7:46 Fresh FM had commercials but only for about a week. They became involved in some sort of protracted war with Lite FM, trying to trick them into playing their Christmas music earlier than normal.
7:47 Steve had to go throw-up after he was told about the "chess match" to get the Lite on Christmas music early.
7:53 Live read: Townstone Financial
7:54 Steve has some more Drew Peterson stuff, about the relative but would Buzz rather do headlines and then just incorporate it?
7:55 Headlines with Buzz
7:56 The Sun-Times says that Stacy Peterson told a clergymen that she believed Drew killed his third wife.
7:57 Thomas Morphey, the relative who helped Drew move a blue container from his bedroom, was profiled in the Sun-Times today.
7:58 In Morphey's neighborhood he is known for his yearly Christmas display and his meticulously striped lawn.
7:59 But in the past Morphey has had substance abuse problems and a lengthy rap sheet. That's probably why Drew called him.
8:00 Steve thinks it's funny that everyone is suddenly an expert. All you have to di is live next door to Thomas Morphey and you're an expert on him.
8:01 In 1993 a girlfriend twice sought orders of protection against him for leaving threatening phone messages.
8:02 This other thing about Stacy and the clergyman is on the front of the Sun-Times and it's Sneed. What kind of clergyman lets that slip? Isn't it supposed to be confidential?
8:03 A source close to the investigation tells Sneed that Stacy was 23 and pregnant in 2004 when Savio died. Steve didn't know she was knocked up.
8:04 Stacy also told people close to her the statements Peterson made after Savio died.
8:05 Stacy disappeared on October 28th but not before telling Drew she was going to leave him. She also told him she was going to begin divorce proceedings and she wanted him out of the house.
8:06 Drew probably doesn't like anyone giving him an ultimatum though, as a cop.
8:07 The FBI has begun searching the nearby Cal-Sag channel because of certain cellphone calls placed from the area.
8:08 The FBI has all that infrared stuff, Steve's seen it on Without a Trace. Buzz thinks they'll find her in the Cal-Sag.
8:09 Authorities are hoping the Army Corps of Engineers will bring in heavy equipment to dredge the channel.
8:10 Local police have put cameras in the channel and found that it's cluttered with cars and truck trailers which need to be cleared for divers. Really, the Cal-Sag is cluttered?
8:11 Buzz is wondering if the source on this story is a Sneedling. Those are usually for the columns but this is more of an article.
8:12 Sneedlings are one of the many time-wasters Sneed uses, along with tips and twaddles. It's not a source, it's a category of information she thinks only she knows and other people don't.
8:13 Buzz thought the Sneedlings were a network of sources throughout the city and he was one day hoping to become one. He probably has some great stuff on Steve.
8:14 Alright Steve's going to take a break and then get to the timeline of events for the day Stacy disappeared.
8:15 Steve would like to know if this is a Catholic priest who Stacy talked to. Sneed said clergymen, if it was a priest she'd say that wouldn't she?
8:22 The only thing Drew gave to Stacy that was age-appropriate were the braces since she was a teenager.
8:23 Caller John points Steve to a photo of Thomas Morphey in the Sun-Times. He bares a striking resemblance to a young Brian Griese.
8:24 When Steve saw John's call on hold he was irritated that he couldn't find a picture of Morphey anywhere.
8:25 Then he realized the photo was on the same page Steve had open and was looking at.
8:26 Live read: Jacob Ruth
8:27 Buzz had the unpleasant task of telling his daughter that her new earrings weren't real diamonds. Actually he took some delight in it. That seems really mean. He just goes home and tortures his family now? At least Steve doesn't talk to his family, he just sits there watching TV.
8:28 An ideal gift for Buzz this Christmas would be to replace Piper's fake earrings with real diamonds.
8:29 Steve doesn't see a Buzz Kilman knocking back $500 on earrings. It doesn't seem like a good idea to put something that expensive on your daughter's ears either.
8:30 Buzz saves the diamonds for the wife, at least he gets something back. Like her telling him he's going bald?
8:31 Buzz was better off telling Piper they were real diamonds, then he's off the hook for years.
8:32 Earlier in the program Steve read a letter from a listener who divorced him because she could only listen once a week.
8:33 Steve and Buzz have also wrecked Jack FM because they talk and don't rock. Now that woman is on the phone and she feels bad and will continue to listen.
8:34 She doesn't need to feel bad, she just needs to be more flexible about when she listens.
8:35 Caller Brenda meant the letter to be funny. She's an old spinster and flexibility is not her strong point.
8:36 Steve doesn't understand why Brenda can't power walk and listen to the show at the same time? Brenda needs a beat when she walks, can Steve talk like that?
8:37 Brenda's mad at Steve for leaving him in the afternoons. It wasn't Steve's idea though, the other option was not being on the air at all. Brenda needs to loosen up a bit.
8:38 Steve is not the first man to tell Brenda that but someone needs to make an impression.
8:39 If Steve had a show this good to listen to, he'd listen when he ran. Sadly, this is the only show this good. Really, who's Steve going to listen to? Dan McNeil? Roe Conn? Until yesterday he could have listened to Pete McMurray.
8:40 Now The Loop has a new guy on in the afternoons, he's a rocker. What adult says that about himself?
8:41 According to Feder's column Eddie Webb, a "dye-in-the wool rocker" is returning to The Loop to do afternoons.
8:42 Webb was at The Loop in 1998 and had top ratings but was eventually granted an early release. That shows you how valuable he was.
8:43 He got an early release from his contract to go to XM radio as program director of their heavy metal station.
8:44 So there ya go people, we've got some afternoon radio again. He's a real rocker too. This is a lot of ink for a guy who was had good ratings but was let go early.
8:50 Steve had to go spit something out so Buzz was just promoing some music coming up. We play the most Def Leppard on this station, Steve and Buzz are rockers too. They'll need to get cowboy hats first.
8:51 Steve has a Stacy Peterson timeline we have to get to but first Pat Boyle is on the phone. Does he want to go through the timeline, how much time does he have?
8:52 Pat has all the time in the world, he's just sitting at home in his cowboy hat. Pat's a real rocker.
8:53 OK so this timeline is from the Sneed column. It's still troubling that Stacy confided in a clergymen and he blabbed. Maybe it's not a Catholic church though.
8:54 Steve has a feeling it's one of those new age churches that are like rock concerts with God music. They don't care what you do as long as you give them 10% of your income.
8:55 This timeline is from the source that Sneed has. At 5 p.m. on October 28th Drew called the Bolingbrook police department to take the day off. Most of this was in the Tribune yesterday anyway.
8:56 They didn't report the guy's name but they had a timeline and all the stuff about Morphey saying the container he moved was warm to the touch. And it was a good move by Drew getting the impeachable witness. He'll be off the stand in 30 seconds.
8:57 That container was warm because it was full of chili. Drew's trying to market his own line of chili, just like Fred Winston. He's using his tub as a giant crock pot to make the chili in.
8:58 Drew's going to call his chili Chili con Crazy, he's hoping to get it into some of the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants. Think about the label of the chili, with Drew on there with his shades and his mustache.
8:59 Is Sneed's source for this article yesterday's Tribune article? She does have the thing about the clergy with no substantiation. It's all hearsay. Habeas corpus baby!
9:00 So Drew Peterson told his cousin to meet him at a local Starbuck's, even though he's probably not supposed to have stimulants.
9:01 Imagine those two at a Starbuck's having a nice egg nog latte. Has Pete had one of those yet becuase he loves the egg nog?
9:02 Perhaps Pete could meet Drew and the Bolingbrook Starbuck's? He needs some help lifting something. Can Pete lift 60 pounds?
9:03 Peterson and Morphey discussed the problems Drew was having with Stacy and how to dispose of the problem. That's hearsay!
9:04 Peterson left Morphey with a cellphone and told him not to answer it if it rang. It did eventually ring and Stacy's name came up on the caller ID.
9:05 Sources tell Sneed that the call was made near the home of Stacy's friend Scott Rossetto, a man she was communicating with via phone and text messages.
9:06 Later Morphey was again summoned by Peterson, probably on his own phone this time. Did he just sit in the Starbuck's the whole time waiting for Drew?
9:07 Morphey then went to Drew's house where he was asked to help move a large blue container, warm to the touch, from the bedroom to Drew's SUV.
9:08 The next day Stacy was reported missing and the day after that Morphey tried to commit suicide. That's what you call a non-credible witness.
9:09 Morphey was visited by Peterson at Edward Hospital in Naperville on October 30th. Peterson's lawyer Joel Brodsky is claiming that Morphey's story doesn't make sense and described him as a man with psychological issues. That's some good lawyerin' right there.
9:10 Police are still awaiting the results of Kathleen Savio's autopsy. How long does an autopsy take?! On TV it takes about an hour, even going back to Quincy. Fast track it!
9:11 Alright, Pat Boyle is still on the phone from Comcast. He has some audio, let's get to that first.
9:12 Steve was at the Hawks game last night and he loved it. Martin Havlat scored a goal as soon as the game started!
9:13 Steve didn't see the governor at the game but he saw John McDonough and Dale Tallon when he was there to pick out his seats.
9:14 There's a buzz around town about the Hawks. Steve told John McDonough that if he's going to the game there must be something going on.
9:15 Steve needs to tell John to get on marketing those players a little better after Tuomo Ruutu got pinched yesterday for robbery.
9:16 It was mistaken identity of course but the arresting officer didn't know what he looked like. We did this story already, just so Pat knows. The show starts at 5:30 Pat.
9:17 Steve just wanted to tell Pat that in case he was wondering why he and Buzz weren't surprised by the news.
9:18 Ruutu seems to have a pretty good attitude about the whole thing though. He's a hockey player, there are way worse things that can happen to him.
9:19 The Bears and Giants play on Sunday, it's the first time the opposing QB comes in under more criticism than Rex.
9:20 The Packers are in Dallas to take on the Cowboys tonight, both are 10-1 teams. It's Favre vs. Romo.
9:21 The Bears are supposed to be on NFL Network next week against the Redskins but Washington is petitioning the league to move the game to the weekend because they have to attend the funeral of Sean Taylor.
9:22 Steve doesn't like changing football games for things like that. He felt the same way after 9/11. Football is what this country is all about. After the JFK assassination there was no football. They made them play at the University of Miami.
9:23 When Buzz was editor for a campus paper at The U he wrote a column about how the Miami players should decide themselves if they want to play. Then he was fired.
9:24 Tony LaRussa plead guilty to a DUI yesterday. Pat has some audio of his field sobriety test, you can see why he plead guilty.
9:25 They asked Tony do say the alphabet backwards, which is hard to do even if you're sober.
9:26 Caller Bob wanted to let Steve know that there was NFL football after Kennedy was shot. Ditka caught a very important pass to set up a field goal and the Bears beat the Steelers.
9:27 Steve doesn't remember what he said, did he say they did play or they didn't play? They for sure didn't play after 9/11 but that's when America needed football.
9:35 Steve still has trouble with the alphabet when he's sober, he has to go back and sing the song.
9:36 Buzz has had to do the alphabet when he's been pulled over. It seems impossible to do it backwards, even when you're sober.
9:37 Steve never had to do any field sobriety tests but he did have to sit in a police car while someone was writing him a ticket. He had to keep it together for about a half hour which is pretty close to a field sobriety test.
9:38 Steve was three blocks from his house when he got pulled over. He almost made it!
9:39 Last night at the Hawks game they did this thing where they recognized a designated driver from the crowd. They must do that at all the games.
9:40 Steve's always a designated driver at sporting events and he's never once been recognized for it.
9:41 This just in, Henry Hyde is dead at the age of 83. It seemed like he got feeble very quickly.
9:42 He looks like a classic politician to Buzz, straight out of Dog Patch. Dog Patch? It's Lil' Abner.
9:43 Blago has to schedule a special election to have someone replace Dennis Hastert, who's retiring. Can't he just serve out the rest of his term? He's a Congressman, it's a two year term! He doesn't do anything anyway, he just watches TV and makes sandwiches.
9:44 David from The Little Guys is on the phone. We're giving away the Sony HES-V1000 home entertainment server today.
9:45 Steve opted for cash instead of an HES-V1000 for his appearance at The Little Guys two weeks ago.
9:46 David took some photos from the appearance and sent it to the Sony people in Japan.
9:47 The Jack FM street crew showed up and did a great job as well. They're probably just overwhelmed at the chance to help support a real human being.
9:48 They kept rubbing Steve to make sure he was a human and not a robot. Then he went into his sweet robot dance.
9:49 David said "too many I's" just as he was hanging up. That was a reference to yesterday's live read, it seems like that should be taken care of off the air.
9:55 Ben Gay is here and he demands to know what the hell that last promo meant! Buzz wasn't paying attention since his name isn't on the promo.
9:56 Steve's not here which is good because his feelings would have been hurt. They basically called him a big, fat, sweaty pig.
9:57 Ben overslept today which is why he's so late. He was up very late last night following some of those young Hawks players around.
9:58 Ben's waiting for a weak moment but so far there hasn't been a lack of women around or a moment weak enough for them to want to bed a 300 pound man in his 50's. A man who will change their lives by the way.
9:59 The Hawks won 5-1 last night, they beat Tampa Bay. Nothing says hockey like Tampa Bay, Florida. Steve went to the game but apparently he wasn't talking about the score because this is the first Buzz has heard of it.
10:00 Steve is very distractible and he has his priorities. Those priorities were probably two bratwursts. Ben was watching the game on a pirated feed at a local bar and every time he saw Steve on TV he was stuff his fat little face with bratwursts.
