5:29 Good morning everybody! And how is Buzz this morning? Buzz is fine and Steve is dandy. He's Mr. Dandy, that's what everyone calls him. Steve and Buzz ran into each other for the first time ever in the lobby this morning.
5:30 Buzz actually mocked Steve, he said it looked like he was going camping. Steve had a lot of stuff with him. He had his briefcase and there was a shirt stuffed in the front pocket.
5:31 Steve had to change shirts because the original one he put on was missing a button. He still took the time to button the shirt knowing a button was missing, then he decided he should probably change shirts.
5:32 Steve also had a gym bag but that was over his shoulder and chest so it had a fisherman look to it. Then Steve had a bakery box but Buzz didn't even ask him what that was.
5:33 Steve went to a bakery to get an orange chiffon cake for his neighbors last night, he went to dinner at their house. That bakery also carries Steve's favorite cookie so he accidentally got a dozen of those.
5:34 Steve has already eaten 3 of the cookies. The box is tied with string so Steve has been reaching in there to get them out. It's those cookies with the smiley face on them and the frosting. Steve had another similar cookie at his neighbor's house, one before bed and then in the middle of the night he went downstairs and got two more.
5:35 Steve ate one cookie then and the second one as soon as he got up. It was his reward for waking up. He decided to skip weighing himself this morning though. Steve also had his Fresh Diet food which really completed his camping look.
5:36 And here's a smiley face cookie for Buzz. It has chocolate on it as well which Steve isn't a fan of. Why does there have to be a smiley face on it? Can't it just be a cookie? Not all of us are in a good mood all the time.
5:37 So Steve went to the bakery in the middle of the snow storm. He just stood there trying to decide what to get when the girl behind the counter said "How about a cake?" Steve thought maybe they were trying to move this particular cake.
5:38 At that time of the day it seemed like there were a lot of baked goods still left in the bakery. Steve thought maybe someone had done some bad planning. But it's a beloved bakery so Steve wanted to buy everything they had to make sure everyone was happy.
5:39 So the girl started going through cake suggestions but then Steve saw the orange chiffon. He felt bad getting that one though because she had suggested other cakes.
5:40 Steve also took Janet's car to the dealership because otherwise it would never happen. With all the new regulations these days they have to go through step by step of what they're doing.
5:41 Steve has a loaner car so he was a little thrown off because there's no garage door opener in it. So he has to open the door, then back out, then get out of the car and close the garage door. It's not that much of a hardship but it's enough.
5:42 There was also a problem with the coffee maker. The pot wasn't engaged properly so the water didn't go into it. But it has to go somewhere right? So Steve was looking for it but luckily he only puts about a Dixie cup full of water in there.
5:43 So all of that stuff led to Steve getting here a little late and his kismet moment with Buzz. Normally Steve likes to get here at 5 am though.
5:44 Steve had to go super fast to get here at 5:10. He doesn't worry about speed traps, they don't seem to have too many people on the Stevenson. Of course now that he says that they'll probably double down on police cars.
5:45 When Buzz was coming in today his cab driver was speeding and he became somewhat concerned. He doesn't want to discourage the cab driver though. Those things are jalopies, Steve has a high-performance car. Most cab drivers drive like they don't care if they die. They come to this country and it's not like they thought it would be.
5:46 Most of your state police are on the Eisenhower because Spike O'Dell was worried about how fast everyone was driving. Of course Wally Phillips dying completes the trilogy of dead morning men at WGN. You've got Bob Collins, Spike O'Dell and now Wally. At least that's what Steve thinks. Doesn't it seem like Spike is dead? Buzz has probably heard him once in his life.
5:47 Steve was reading the Wally Phillips stuff online yesterday. He thought he and Buzz did a great tribute to Wally yesterday. Buzz thought so too, they found out about it at the perfect time and were able to revel in Wally for the last 90 minutes of the show.
5:48 Turns out Wally was a genius. You could just tell he was messing with these people because it amused him. It's been 22 years since he's been on the air in the mornings.
5:49 The one article Steve read about Wally said that he was replaced by Bob Collins who died in a plane crash. But there was no mention of Spike O'Dell so it's like he's dead. It made Steve wonder who's next.
5:50 Steve spent the afternoon dodging interview requests though. He didn't think he should be on TV talking about Wally and someone would probably try to pull him back into a feud.
5:51 Steve did talk to Phil Rosenthal though. He actually sent a quote to Phil and then used it in his blog. Steve knew Phil would be mad about that but he used something else from the blog. Steve knew he'd do that because Phil is smart.
5:52 Fran Spielman from the Sun-Times was mad that Steve wouldn't talked to her though. Steve only responds via email but she said that's not how it's done. That's how Steve does it though.
5:53 Steve and Wally had a complicated relationship and it couldn't really be explained in a newspaper article. Plus Steve didn't want to become a focal point of this thing, it's about Wally not him.
5:54 One thing Buzz pointed out yesterday has been driving Steve nuts. All of the articles keep saying that Wally died of Alzheimer's but he didn't. You can't really die from Alzheimer's. Buzz has heard of extreme cases of Alzheimer's where it goes unchecked and you die because you forget to breathe. But that's an extreme case.
5:55 That sort of seemed like a hack job, saying he died of Alzheimer's. That's not how he died but all of these articles said, in a somewhat smug way, that he died of Alzheimer's, like they're all doctors or something.
5:56 Steve forgets stuff all the time though, is that Alzheimer's or is he just stupid? Like today he was sitting in his driveway hitting the garage door button in the car, wondering why it wasn't working. Then he remembered it was a loaner and there was no garage door opener in there.
5:57 The other day Buzz was trying to reheat something in the microwave. He was standing there trying to start it up and it wasn't working. So he starts yelling that the microwave is broken. Then Aimee walks over and removes the door of the microwave from his hand, closes the door and starts it up.
6:01 That's the Pillsbury Doughboy of Broadcasting, Bruce DuMont, talking about Wally Phillips. Bruce is a nice enough guy but Steve doesn't like how he lords the Broadcasting Hall of Fame thing over everyone. It's just something Bruce came up with himself.
6:02 In order to get into Bruce's Broadcasting Hall of Fame you have to nominate yourself. A few years ago on WCKG, which we ran into the ground, Jeff Schwartz and Harvey Wells nominated Steve.
6:03 But then Steve lost out to Scott Shannon who's basically a zookeeper. That's when Steve stopped caring. There are also competing Broadcasting Hall of Fames here and in New York, plus there's the Illinois Broadcast Hall of Fame that has people like Jim Belushi in it.
6:04 Live read: Seattle Sutton
6:05 Alright time for the web poll. Yesterday's web poll was "could you live in 350 square feet?" Steve read that article yesterday about the couple who live in a Chicago condo that is 350 square feet.
6:06 Now that Steve thinks about it, he lived in an apartment that was smaller than that. So did Buzz, it didn't matter. Steve's place was sort of depressing because it was so small but it was only $60 a month. So Steve would probably answer yes to that question.
6:07 When Steve first moved to Detroit he didn't have any furniture in his apartment other than a bed. So he pretty much lived in his bedroom. He had a stereo also.
6:08 Today's question is "Would you let a 6-year-old participate in Ultimate Fighting?" Buzz's 6-year-old isn't in Ultimate Fighting, it's all highly supervised with pads and helmets. And they're using moves that they've been practicing for months.
6:09 This is from Carthage, Missouri. Ultimate Fighting was once the domain of men who beat each other bloody on pay-per-view. Now the sport sometimes called "human cockfighting" is branching out to kids as young as 6. This is just white trash people right?
6:10 Ultimate Fighting is huge so it makes sense that kids would get into it. Tommy Bloomer the father of one of the members of Garage Boys Fight Crew, doesn't see what the fuss is all about.
6:11 Steve's going to give this father a Southern accent. As a parent Bloomer would rather have his son learn how to defend himself and get positive reinforcement.
6:12 The sport has evolved since the no-holds-barred days with weight classes and banning moves like strikes to the back of the neck, groin kicking and head butting.
6:13 Missouri seems to be the only state that allows youth fights like this. In many states it's a misdemeanor for children to participate.
6:14 Larry Swinehart, a Joplin, Missouri police officer says the fights look violent but it teachers discipline. Joplin is definitely below the Mason-Dixon line. Actually Bolingbrook might be below the Mason-Dixon line.
6:15 Bloomer says the fights are no more violent than youth wrestling. His sons Skylar and Gage are members of the Garage Boys Fight Crew. Skylar and Gage don't sound like white trash names. Or maybe they're just attempts to not seem white trash.
6:16 The kids wear protective headgear, shin guards, groin protection and gloves. They fight quick one-minute bouts and are prohibited from using elbow blows and blows to the head when an opponent is on the ground. Steve would have a hard time resisting those moves.
6:17 Buzz's daughter learned moves and trained for years before she was ever even in a sanctioned fight. This article claims the kids are learning moves and training.
6:18 Caller Chris has been doing mixed martial arts for about three weeks and last night he took his boys to a freestyle place for the first time. His 8-year-old wanted no part of it but his 6-year-old loved it. That's because 6-year-olds are dumb.
6:19 What Chris saw last night didn't seem like redneck wrestling, there was an instructor present and it was all regulated.
6:20 Buzz got his daughter into the martial arts as early as he could. But he wouldn't want to push her into something like this.
6:21 Buzz did tout Piper's first fight as Ultimate Fighting a few weeks ago and he couldn't have been more excited about it.
6:22 So Chris is saying this article is pretty incendiary? It doesn't seem like it's any more violent than Pee-Wee football.
6:23 So just to recap, Chris is saying it's not that bad if it's regulated and there's a trainer present. Maybe things aren't like that in the garage though. But a fighting academy probably has to have a insurance.
6:24 Chris wanted Steve and Buzz to say hi to Wendy Snyder. Why would they do that? Chris has been listening for a year and a half and hasn't heard her.
6:25 Chris is hoping Steve doesn't take his prize away. He won't do that but now the call makes sense. They spent the whole time arguing about something Steve didn't care about. That's Wendy's one fan, that's what she was bringing to the table.
6:31 Live read: The Little Guys
6:32 Was it just Steve or did that last caller not make any sense? He likes the fighting, he doesn't like it. He really just wanted to call up and tell Steve to say hi to Wendy. Why didn't he just start the call off with that?
6:33 Wendy's been gone for a year and a half and it took most people 6 months to realize she was gone. She is doing traffic on another station if the guy wants to listen to that.
6:34 Buzz's daughter is involved in kickboxing and it's very regulated. Ultimate Fighting just seems like you do whatever you want to win the match.
6:35 Steve went to a martial arts class once, he can't remember how old he was. He was standing there talking to the instructor and the guy said "give me your wrist". Then the guy grabbed his wrist and flipped Steve.
6:36 And then the guy said "that's what this is like". Why would Steve want to be involved in something like that? He's just standing there talking to the guy and then he gets flipped. So Steve left.
6:37 These days Steve tries to avoid getting into a fight because you'll just end up getting sued. Buzz used to like a good fight, they could be fun.
6:38 He remembers a fight breaking out in a bar in Miami he used to frequent. He was standing on top of the bar watching everyone fight and then he just jumped right into it.
6:39 Can we stop talking about fighting now? Steve doesn't have anything else to say about it but he thinks what Buzz is doing with Piper is good. She's learning to protect herself and it teachers her discipline. It's not easy be 6, it never was. It's not easy being 53 either.
6:40 Steve's boys never did anything like that although they did used to fight. It would have been a fight to the death if you didn't break it up. And they've tried to kill Steve a few times.
6:41 Boys get older, they say something to you and that's it. Sometimes the boys are fighting and Steve steps in. Then they both start wailing on him. He might have had some anger issues and some dry-drunk issues though.
6:42 Steve has to say that he regrets being as aggressive as he was with Pat. But Pat is an ass. He would just not stop and basically with the approval of his mom he would berated Steve. Then next thing you know he's shoving a taquito in Pat's face.
6:43 Steve's standing there making taquitos and Pat's friends are over. He asks if they can have some, Steve says they're for him and then Pat starts saying something about that. Then Pat's getting a taquito in his face. Then Mike sees that and steps in.
6:44 There was some competition for Man of the House and Steve's pretty sure he lost. Pat was sort of Janet's little man, when Steve was out drinking. But when he stopped there was a competition. Neither of them would give up the fight either.
6:45 Steve lost and Pat thinks it's his family. He dishes out advice to everyone like he's the father. At this point Steve's just an income passing as a man but he probably had it coming to him as it turns out.
6:46 When is Piper's next bout? Events come and go and she will sign up again when she wants to. Ultimately it's like a recital for martial arts. If Piper ever gets involved in Ultimate Fighting Buzz will be front and center.
6:47 Buzz seems conflicted though. On the one hand he's bloodthirsty and he loves boxing. On the other hand he's got this sweet little girl at home. Steve feels conflicted and he doesn't even have a daughter.
6:48 Piper came home from school once and told Buzz that she'd done a bad thing at school. She said she had to take Ben down. Her classmate put his finger in her face and she grabbed it and brought him down to the ground. Aimee wasn't happy, she said it was too aggressive. But Buzz is thinking "right on!" It's a mixed message.
6:52 Steve had Oh, Wally in the studio yesterday and now it's gone. Did Pete take it out? He'll bring it back in now. Why would Pete take it out? He's got the messiest studio Steve has ever seen, it's like Fibber McGee's closet.
6:53 But Steve leaves one CD out and Pete has to tidy up?! Have a seat Pete, let's talk about this. Instead of tidying up Steve's studio, why doesn't he clean up his own studio?
6:54 It couldn't have been more obvious that Steve was going to play this song again. Pete just likes to have Steve come into a pristine studio. He doesn't like his doodles from the day before to be there though. But here are his doodles from yesterday.
6:55 Does Pete not approve of the song? Now that he thinks about it he should have left the CD in there. It's not a big deal but Steve's making it a big deal because he's here until 10.
6:56 Song: Oh, Wally, Steve Dahl
6:59 Steve can tell you this, he was on something when he did that song. Until yesterday Buzz didn't understand the reference to the black box in the song.
7:00 Wally carried around a toy safe with the name of someone famous in it. Everyday someone would call in and try to guess who it was. He never gave any clues so you had to just guess out of all the people in the universe.
7:01 Eventually he just had to reveal who it was. It ended up being Jean Rogers, who was in Flash Gordon. Good luck guessing that.
7:02 No one ever guess it correctly and no one was ever going to because he never gave any clues. It's genius!
7:03 Live read: Hawk Ford
7:04 Has Buzz seen those promos on NBC where Brant Miller tells you about the future of TV? It's for the switch to all digital TV. To find out if your TV needs a converter box he sends you to a website.
7:05 But if you're still using rabbit ears on your TV you don't know how to get online and go to the website. That's really helpful, keep up the good work channel 5!
7:06 News with Buzz
7:07 President Bush has once again addressed the Iraq issue and warned the American public about the danger of pulling out too soon. Is he talking about premature Iraqulation?
7:08 The public's opinion of Barack Obama has not changed after the Jeremiah Wright flap. Jeremiah, wasn't he a bullfrog?
7:09 Steve's pretty sure that Buzz has accidentally turned off his mic. How does he do that? Steve could turn it back on for him but he finds it amusing. He can hear Buzz talking in the background but the mic is off.
7:10 Kwame Kilpatrick is asking for the support of Detroit residents. He told people at a rally at the Shrine of the Black Madonna that he shouldn't have to go to prison forever for a few text messages. It's really the perjury that he's in trouble for, not text messaging.
7:11 Buzz hasn't read any of the messages, are they exciting? They're pretty interesting, there's some stuff in there that you wouldn't want to admit you did.
7:12 A pair of forensic scientists have revealed in a new book that Sirhan Sirhan may have had help in the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Analyzing tape of the shooting they concluded that 13 shots were fired when Sirhan's gun could only fire 8
7:13 Gloria Allred is representing a woman who was forced to remove her nipple piercings while going through a TSA checkpoint at an airport. Allred said that the woman should have been given a pat-down instead of being forced to remove the nipple rings.
7:14 If they'd patted her down then she would have been suing them for feeling her up. When Steve goes through security he takes off his watch, he puts his keys and his wallet in the basket. You have to know that you can't bring nipple rings through security.
7:15 Going back to that Jeremiah Wright thing, Steve saw that Obama is sort of backing away from him a little bit. Obama said he would have left the church if Wright hadn't stepped down first.
7:16 Then Steve saw on Fox last night that the church Obama belongs to is building Jeremiah Wright a $10 million home somewhere in the suburbs for his retirement.
7:17 Obama told The View today that if Wright hadn't retired and acknowledged what he said had deeply offended people he would have left the church. And the house Wright is getting is 10,340 square feet at a cost of $1.6 million. Steve heard $10 million on Fox and the person doing the closed captioning actually typed $10 billion.
7:18 This article says Wright purchased 2 lots for himself in Tinley Park from Kenny Lewis, a restaurant chain owner. Fox made it seem like the church was buying everything for him. Wright's retirement is raising some questions because he often criticizes people for middle classism and too much materialism.
7:19 The church secured a $1.6 million mortgage for the home purchase and attached a $10 million line of credit. That's the walking around money right there. You need your WAM! It's actually worse that he has a $9 million line of credit. He can pretty much spend that money on anything.
7:20 Apparently there's nothing wrong with this deal according to non-profit tax expert Jack Siegel. It is unusual though because Wright sold the property to the church and because of how the deal was financed plus the $10 million line of credit.
7:21 Steve was just thinking he'd sell some of his property to CBS and then have them get a mortgage for him.
7:22 Caller Derrick wanted to let Steve know that Kenny Lewis owns Kenny's Ribs, they're a chain in the suburbs. Those places sort of took over for Freddy's and Leon's. Whatever happened to Freddy's?
7:23 Derrick grew up near Stan Lawrence so he always heard him talking about Freddy's. Steve thought he retired in Michigan or something. It's too bad he didn't sell that recipe to someone. Those were the best ribs Steve has ever had.
7:24 Derrick actually met Steve at the Hawks game a few weeks ago. Steve remembers that, Derrick's wife had to leave early right? It was Derrick's first hockey game. He wanted to talk to Rocky Wirtz and saw him in the Ketel One club but he was busy with his wife. That Rocky sure made a difference pretty quickly didn't he? Derrick thinks a lot of people are going to get into hockey who weren't before and a lot of other people are going to come back.
7:25 Steve was watching the game two things stood out to him during the broadcast. The first one was Eddie Olczyk giving a shout-out to Jurko who was just sitting there in Columbus watching the game. Steve didn't even get a shout-out on his radio icon night! And Jurko always has that dumb look on his face. That's just his look though.
7:26 Steve can't remember the other thing he noticed during the broadcast. What was Derrick talking about before that? Steve might need a break to remember.
7:32 Live read: Hawthorne Race Course
7:33 Steve was out at Hawthorne a few weeks ago with Todd Cavanah. He lost some money but Todd kept winning because he was choosing horses with names that had something to do with Jack.
7:34 Every time Steve made a bet the guy behind the counter had this look on his face like "you don't want to make that bet."
7:35 Can we go back to Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog Wright? He bought some land from Kenny Lewis, the rib guy.
7:36 Then he sold the lots back to his church. The proceeds of that went to a living trust. He got about $40,000 than the initial price he purchased the lots for.
7:37 So the house and the walking around money is $10 million. You never know when you're going to need that.
7:38 The church referred Fox to it's headquarters in Cleveland which said in a statement that this is a customary and appropriate situation. It's common in many Christian denominations for local churches to offer housing provisions for retiring clergy.
7:39 Andrew Walsh, Associate Director of the Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life (Steve and Buzz's favorite center), explains that this is how new churches work.
7:40 These pastors made big successful churches and they're a valuable commodity. There's no tradition in this church that pastors have to live poor.
7:41 It sort of seems that Wright is talking out of both sides of his mouth on this one though. It's certainly not going to help Barack Obama.
7:42 Steve didn't mean to interrupt the news but he had to mention this thing about the house.
7:43 In Hammond, Indiana they're preparing for a visit from Hillary Clinton. She'll hold a rally at the Hammond Civic Center.
7:44 The Rolling Stones are now welcome to perform in Blackpool, England. The city council lifted a 4 decade old ban that went into place after a riot at one of their concerts.
7:45 Finally a story we missed yesterday. Gene Morrel of New Ipswich, New Hampshire has been sentenced to prison for molesting a boy he met over the incident. When being arrested Morrel said that he himself had been molested as a child by Bigfoot. That would mess you up wouldn't it?
7:46 The other weird assault thing that has been in the news is the coach at Walter Payton Prep. First of all it's weird to hear that school name but also on WBBM-AM Regine Schlessinger gave a somewhat graphic description of what had gone on. Steve had to pull over to the side of the road and get himself under control. It's inappropriate for Steve to think those things about Regine Schlessinger.
7:47 This isn't a good story for Walter Payton's family or the school is it? It sort of sounds like a fake school name. At least it wasn't the football program. Do they have a good football team? Because that would be a lot of pressure on them.
7:53 You have to figure that if Bigfoot molests you it's something you won't soon forget.
7:54 Earlier Steve was talking to caller Derrick. He had some information about the guy who Jeremiah Wright purchased those lots from.
7:55 It seems like Jeremiah Wright knows the ways of the white man with that deal. He shouldn't be bashing it then, he should be teaching it to his friends.
7:56 Then Steve started talking to Derrick about the Hawks game. The other night Steve was watching the game and he was mad that Eddie Olczyk gave a shout-out to Jurko of Mac, Jurko and Harry.
7:57 The main thing Steve wanted to mention is that during the game there was a promo for the Blackhawks season ticket waiting list. Back in November that wasn't an issue.
7:58 Although knowing John McDonough they could just be saying there's a waiting list. That's the genius of John McDonough though. And there very well could be a waiting list.

8:00 Hi hive Buzz!
8:01 It's time for the Eight O'Clock Taco Bell and not a moment too soon. Steve is starving and it being Friday he and Buzz will eat. They're having the Cheesy Beefy Melt today.
8:02 Buzz is wondering why they only eat on Tuesdays and Fridays. They can't get anything done while they eat, that's why. Maybe if they ate them a little bit later, before a break it could work. But what do they do now that they're eating, they're worthless!
8:03 Buzz doesn't think he could do it everyday. Then why did he bring it up?! If we're going to do it everyday we need interns.
8:04 Steve calls down to Adam's office. So far he hasn't hired any interns. He hasn't seen any resumes he likes. Why doesn't he let Steve look at them. It doesn't seem like Adam would like anyone.
8:05 Adam thinks that Steve just needs to trust him on this. Adam didn't have some good interns at WCKG, before we ran it into the ground. It just takes time. What does Steve need to do to expedite the process? Does he need to stop being a dirty old man? Some guy hears this and wouldn't send his daughter to work for Steve.
8:06 What's Jim laughing at? Steve can hear him laughing two doors down. Adam should try to get Jim's girlfriend as an intern and Steve would pay her. That shut Jim up didn't it.
8:07 What is Adam worried about? It's like he's playing office down there. Steve doesn't aspire to the same righteousness that CBS does, he just wants some hot college girls down here. And they'll get course credit for getting him a taco. You can't beat that.
8:08 Does Adam feel confident about the future and getting interns? Given enough time Adam thinks he can find some interns. How much time does he need?! Where has Adam posted the intern search at?
8:09 So far he's posted at DePaul, Columbia and Loyola and he'll probably post at Northeastern soon. What's that? Isn't that a storm? What about UIC? The Flames!
8:10 Adam will post at UIC as well as University of Chicago. Steve doesn't want U of C or Northwestern, the girls are dogs.
8:11 See Adam is coming from CBS so he thinks we need to only hire college students. Steve's pretty sure he can hire whoever he wants to be an intern. He could have strippers getting him tacos if he wants.
8:12 Adam likes to hire college students because then you have something to hold over them. Plus having college kids cuts down on the creepy 40-year-olds who wants to quit their job as a trader to be a radio intern.
8:13 The other good thing about having a kid in college is that if it goes bad it's only for a semester. Adam just needs to make it a little more known that this is really the only way to get into radio.
8:14 Adam didn't want to do too much of that because then people would be nagging Steve for a job all the time. Steve doesn't care if they nag him, he'll just tell him to shut up. Steve doesn't want to argue about this. They might have to have a meeting today.
8:15 Here's what Steve wants Adam to do. Get a card table and a banner that reads "Your Future is Now". Then get Frijole Joe and Big Steve, got to the various college campuses and set up a Steve Dahl job fair.
8:16 Adam imagines he'll be kicked off campus after about 5 minutes, security is really ramped up these days. Do we need to get Adam a taser or something? He only wants to talk about the travel mugs, that's it right?
8:17 There are job fairs but they charge money to get in them. So just go and set up! Frijole Joe can keep people at bay for at least 20 minutes.
8:18 It seems like Adam is trying to make Steve corporate or something. The next step is getting his stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Steve can't talk to Adam any more, it's like pulling take. It's like he's running the place.
8:19 Brendan said he would go to the various college campuses. Who wouldn't want to do that? That's the Girls Gone WIld attitude Steve is looking for. Adam's attitude is more Nerds Gone Wild.
8:23 Adam is right essentially, we can't just have some unsupervised program where hot chicks are getting him tacos. That only leads to a report on WBBM-AM about Steve going to a sex shop. And it's all graphically described by Regine Schlessinger.
8:24 Buzz points out that had that coach and that girl been 2 years older it's a Drew Peterson/Stacy Peterson situation.
8:25 Adam did get those travel mugs done but he seems unwilling to negotiate with Steve, even if his ideas are crackpot. Just work with him at least! Adam has his standards. It's like Adam runs the place, there was a bloodless coup.
8:26 Steve calls down to Adam's office. Steve being mad at Adam caused him to break bad on Jim and his girlfriend. But Jim was laughing at his struggles.
8:27 So Brendan's going to go to DePaul on Monday, that's when spring break is over. He'll be handing out those Chaser pills. The Stever always has a keg going at the station.
8:28 Steve calls down to the newsroom. He was just getting frustrated with Adam because he was clamming up. It was sort of like when Pete and Jim were at Lollapalooza and they clammed up. That black intern was there and it's like they were trying to be cool in front of him. And now that guy is down the hall producing for Douche FM.

8:30 Alright Brendan is in here because he's some sort of basketball idiot savant. Steve doesn't even really know who played. North Carolina beat up on Washington State. Steve had North Carolina.
8:31 Tennessee lost to Louisville, Steve had that all backwards. UCLA beat Western Kentucky, Steve has UCLA winning everything. Xavier beat West Virginia. Steve had Duke, what happened to those guys? They should be kicked out of the NCAA, they screwed up everyone.
8:32 Steve had Duke going to the Elite 8. So did Brendan, that's a bummer. Does Steve get double points because he attended UCLA? Remember, he told Buzz about this, he used to hang out with Kareem and Bill Walton.
8:33 So the teams who play last night play again on Saturday and the teams who play tonight play on Sunday. Then the Final Four starts next Saturday. They need to get this over with now, we've got baseball games to worry about.
8:34 March Madness needs to end in March. It's not called March and April Madness. According to Steve's calculations they have 3 days left to get this thing done.
8:35 Steve's calling Stephanie, she's in charge of the pool. She's actually on her way down here.

8:37 By the way, David Hochberg's wife had the baby, it's a girl. Steve has the babies height and weight but he doesn't need to know that. Unless it's a lobster that he's making he doesn't need to know the height and weight.
8:38 Steve only needs to know if it's a boy or a girl and if it's healthy. And now David can stop whining about how tired he is through all of this. It's like he's the one who's pregnant.
8:39 Buzz has to say that he didn't lose any sleep after Aimee had the kid. Of course he didn't. Buzz probably didn't even know they had a kid for the first year.
8:40 Stephanie was not on her way down here so Steve's calling back up to the office. Ron Lewis is still in the lead. Steve wants him removed from the pool, he doesn't even work here. He's an independent contractor! Send Ron the money back.
8:41 After Ron Mary and Pete are tied for second and Steve and Jim are tied for third. Then it's Stephanie, Brendan and Adam in last. At least the office nerd isn't leading this pool.
8:42 Pete was in third to last but then he had all 4 teams winning last night so he jumped up to second. Has he been changing his picks after each round? He's always lurking around in that office.
8:43 Steve never has his bracket with him so he never keeps track of the games. He pretty much always goes with the #1 seeds though. What does he know about basketball, other than that he doesn't like to play it.
8:44 Stephanie still hasn't decided how to pay out the money. This is her first year so she asked Brendan. Usually 80% goes to the winner and 20% to the second place. We don't reward losing here, winner takes all.
8:45 Ed Silha had a complicated pay out system for the fantasy football league but that's probably because he knew he wouldn't win. It was like a kid's soccer league.
8:46 Steve doesn't care how they pay out, they can do 80/20. But with 80 people in the pool that's $160 so 20% is $32. Does anyone really care about that? Stephanie thought it was only $12. They didn't teach percentages at Columbia?
8:47 Steve knows his percentages. He could teach a class about that at Columbia, in lieu of donating $5,000 to them. They want him to donate $5,000 and come to the commencement. Steve didn't even want to go to his own kid's commencements.
8:48 Steve's not paying $5,000 to anyone unless it's a high-priced prostitute. Like Kristen or Tatayana. Steve likes to use the whore names, not the real names.
8:54 That rejoin music was very loud. It was harsh. It probably sounded fine on the radio but it scared the hell out of Steve. He jumped 2 feet out of his chair which he didn't know he could do. So it's good news and bad news.
8:55 We've got the news coming up with Buzz in a bit. Yesterday Steve and Buzz played some vintage Wally Phillips. It's pretty clear now that Wally was a genius and he was trapped in a world not of his own making.
8:56 Wally was just trying to amuse himself and when Steve hears it now it's funny in a Bob Newhart sort of way. Wally was a bit of a whack job and he basically said that to Steve at his final broadcast.
8:57 You have to respect what Wally did and how much money he made for WGN. And then he was sort of unceremoniously dumped by them. But that's the nature of the business. He should have never left mornings though.
8:58 What Steve heard yesterday, he'd listen to that on the radio on his way home. You've got some guy cold-calling people and asking them if his family and their great dane can stay at their house.
8:59 Steve thought he did a pretty good tribute yesterday and he managed to stay away from any interviews. A lot of people wanted him to be a counterpoint to Wally and he didn't want to do that. He's 53 now, he has a different perspective.
9:00 What Steve has now is from 1965 which was before Wally had the life beaten out of him by idiot listeners. It's edgy, it's a bit inside and it's kind of hip.
9:01 Wally is calling Dan Sorkin in California who's on a station out there. And he's saying he's the President of the Don Sherwood fan club. So that's a third radio guy.
9:02 Back then radio guys used to call other radio guys on the air. It was more of a good-natured rivalry, usually with guys in other markets.
9:03 And then Wally's talking about tail! This is before the lady from Tinley Park sucked the life right out of him. It seems like "for sure" was Wally's way of saying "whatever".
9:04 Steve was looking at some photos of Wally without the toupee and he looked fine. Steve's not sure why he wore it. Buzz thinks that sometimes the only person who cares about that is the person wearing the toupee. No one else really cares what you look like.
9:05 Buzz thinks it's like Steve when he didn't like the way his bald head looked on Dahl.com, the one that Ed put together. Steve thought he was going to go in a different direction with that and tell him he thinks he looks fine in his pants but he doesn't.
9:06 Now they're talking about cops being in the mafia. And then he drops a pot reference. Steve needs to go back and hear that again. The lady from Tinley Park probably didn't like the pot references, that's a gateway drug.
9:07 Buzz has heard the sex and the drugs, he's waiting for the rock and roll. They were both rock and roll DJs.
9:08 Sorkin is really whipping it out on Wally isn't it? Wally couldn't careless either.
9:09 Now they're going multi-station, let's see if Wally dials it up for the San Francisco audience.
9:10 The lady from Tinley Park sucked the marrow right out of Wally. She just left a shell of a man with skin and a toupee.
9:12 Wally references Carol Doda who was a famous stripper in San Francisco. She has a 66" chest and she used to do ads for a TV station called The Famous 66.
9:13 You can tell Wally starting to bail on the Carol Doda stuff, maybe this is the beginning of the end for him.
9:15 The Bears had just been out in San Francisco when Wally talked to Sorkin. Sorkin stopped by the WGN broadcast booth at the time.
9:16 So then Sorkin references George Halas going to Finnochio's. From what Steve remembers that was a gay bar in San Francisco. There are so many things here that Wally can't even touch.
9:17 It was a gay bar with female impersonators. It sounds like that was what the Bears were that year too.

9:24 The office dork is leading our NCAA pool although Ron Lewis is an independent dork. Adam would be our office dork really and he's in last. Ed Silha could also be the office dork but he refused to participate this year.
9:25 If Buzz doesn't mind Steve has another 3 or 4 minutes on this Wally Philips tape. He's not sure what else is on there.
9:26 So far Wally has been talking to Dan Sorkin who was on the air in San Francisco. They've made a drug reference, talked about Carol Dota with the 66 inch chest, referenced the Bears being female impersonators and George Halas going Finnochio's.
9:27 And this is before the lady from Tinley Park sucked all the life out of Wally. Dan Sorkin was a big deal in Chicago and then he left for San Francisco.
9:28 Part of the life-sucking was that Wally had to go to the traffic guy who doesn't seem to know the traffic.
9:29 And this traffic reporter is in an actual helicopter. These days you get the feeling that the traffic person is just sitting in a room somewhere.
9:30 The guy doesn't call it The Stevenson, he calls it Stevenson. Steve's going to start doing that.
9:31 Then he said "she opens up" in reference to the Eisenhower. That's a guy who really cares about the traffic he's doing.
9:32 There are probably old school whirlybird choppers too with the big glass bubble in front.
9:33 Buzz noticed the traffic reporter starting to sound like Wally. It's probably more like Wally started sounding like them after talking to the same people 5 times an hour.
9:34 Caller Greg is a few years older than Steve and he grew up in Chicago. The first traffic reporter Wally talked to actually died in a chopper crash.
9:35 There was another traffic reporter working for WGN who also died in a crash. When Steve was growing up in LA the traffic reporter for one of the stations had a fixed-wing aircraft but he also died in a crash. You probably can't fly that much and not eventually die in a crash.
9:36 Greg thought that the guy who was the U2 pilot that was shot down was also a traffic reporter. Greg needs to call WGN and finish out the rest of this phone call.
9:37 Caller Ken is just enjoying a cup of coffee in his new Steve Dahl coffee mug. For sure! If you peeled the layers off of that you'd see it was made of the finest porcelain.
9:38 Ken used to listen to Wally in the car when he mom drove him to school. Then he started talking about some guy named Steve Dahl and he had to tune in.
9:39 Steve's got about a minute left of this thing so he's just going to finish it out. There might be another hidden gem in here.
9:40 Wally's just live readin' it like Steve has to do sometimes. He got a little backed up so he had to go back-to-back.
9:41 Wally is sort of free-forming it at the end, asking people what kind of day it is for them. You can hear the beginning of the end, he doesn't know what these listeners want. He just wants to talk to Dan Sorkin.
9:49 That's Roy Leonard talking to Steve and Johnnie on WGN, Steve would imagine last night. Roy was telling them that his kids were listening to Steve yesterday, telling the story about Steve meeting Wally in the elevator.
9:50 Sugar Roy Leonard, he's the man. He's the real deal.
9:51 Live read: La-Z-Boy
9:52 Steve has a La-Z-Boy in his Green Room and he's not talking about Brendan.
9:53 Should Steve play Oh, Wally one more time? Because next week it won't matter. Then some quick headlines after that.
9:54 Song: Oh, Wally, Steve Dahl
9:56 O-K! Steve did hear Wally tell people to wear porous clothes once. Still Steve is going with Wally's listeners sucking the life right out of him.
9:57 Buzz had some Drew Peterson stuff but we probably don't have time for it. We'll do it on Monday but Steve's putting dibs on it now. Unless Buzz wants to come in tomorrow. He can't see that happening though.
9:58 Buzz has plans tomorrow anyway, probably a movie, maybe Mexican food and then Little Arthur Duncan. He's booked at two venues tomorrow night though.
9:59 The only breaking news is that ordinary Cuban citizens can now have cellphones. Raul Castro decreed that everyone can have one and not just foreign workers or government employees. Do they have to use those big giant cellphones from the 70s though?
10:00 If Steve knew someone in Cuba he'd call them on their cellphone. All the Cubans he knows are in the U.S. anyway. If you go to Miami you think there isn't anyone left in Cuba. When they call it Little Cuba they're not joking.
