5:30 Time for another exciting Steve Dahl Show. We ended the overnight Jackage with Another One Bites the Dust which brings back special memories for Steve.
5:31 Back in the 80s a kid who worked for Steve who he was friends with, Marcus Palmer, died at Cook County Hospital during a routine tonsillectomy. Steve had talked to him the night before and he was scared to go in.
5:32 Steve sent Marcus to Cook County because he thought he was teaching him a lesson. Marcus could be a bit of a slacker sometimes so Steve wanted to show him what healthcare could be like for him if he continued to be a slacker. This was at the old, scary Cook County that looks like something out of a horror movie. It's still standing there too looking creepy.
5:33 On the show the next day Steve and Garry called the hospital and talked to a nurse who told them he had died. They thought she was kidding and then freaked out when they realized she wasn't.
5:34 Steve really freaked because he was the one who sent him to Cook County. A while after that Cliff Johnson, lead singer of Off Broadway, was over at Steve's house, completely hammered and telling Steve he'd killed Marcus because he sent him to the Cooker. That was fun.
5:35 At WLS the engineers had a record player that went directly to the transmitter, in case there was some technical malfunction. Steve can't even remember if he knew there was a song they had on standby but the song was Another One Bites the Dust, which is of course completely inappropriate.
5:36 Perhaps that was set up by an engineer who thought Another One Bites the Dust would be appropriate in the event of a technical malfunction, like a blown tube or something.
5:37 At the time Mike Downey, of the Tribune, was writing for a paper in Detroit. Steve wasn't even on in Detroit at the time but Downey still wrote a whole article about callous and inappropriate the whole thing was and he couldn't believe Steve would find out his friend died on the air and then play a funny song.
5:38 Steve even called Mike Downey to tell him what really happened but he didn't care and never printed a retraction. Steve's still waiting to meet up with him and it could happen since they both write for the Trib and Mike's a sports reporter now.
5:39 Mike seems like one of those guys, like Jay Mariotti, who never goes to sport events and just writes his articles based on what the commentators were saying. Jay just did that a few weeks ago about the Masters. There's no way you can write what Jay wrote if you're at the event, it was exactly what the commentators said.
5:40 So that's what Steve thinks when he hears Another One Bites the Dust. Steve heard a great segue on the Mother Jacker on his way in today. It was Won't Get Fooled Again into Funky Cold Medina. Steve's care almost did an about face. Remind Steve to never go to a party at Todd's house.
5:44 Steve wasn't in the studio when he was supposed to be but it seemed like the break was very short. Also the tape seemed pretty short too. Steve and Buzz weren't in the studio so they didn't hear it, was it something fun and exciting?
5:45 Take your time with the answer Pete. It was something from The Simpsons, Marge talking about music radio. Was it one second long? Pete's got some Saturday in the Park in the background, is Steve interrupting his TV watching because he hates to do that. Pete loves the TV, why can't we be on TV?
5:46 The drop was 7 seconds but the break was only 3 minutes. Steve doesn't even come downtown for that! Get the sales staff out there working! They're all too busy going to Cubs games. It might be time for a meeting with the sales staff where Steve makes everyone, including the guys, cry.
5:47 Alright it's time for the web poll. Why can't Steve ever remember the previous day's web poll? Is it because he's old? Steve can't even remember what he did during the show after it's over. If someone asks him how the show went he doesn't know what to say. Unless someone mentions something specific from the show Steve can't remember.
5:48 Today's web poll question is "Did you know that erectile dysfunction is a health warning sign?" Steve knows it's a sign that you're not getting laid unless you get a popsicle stick and some duct tape. And a lot of ladies don't go for that.
5:49 Today's question is "Are you addicted to flip-flops?" Steve recently started wearing flip-flops and he doesn't mind them. He doesn't know where they are though.
5:50 When Steve was last in Florida he bought flip-flops that didn't fit him. They were 10 1/2 but it turns out he's better off with 11. He got a size 11 in Hawaii and those fit but between Florida, Hawaii and here Steve can't find his flip-flops.
5:51 Steve doesn't know where to get flip-flops here though. They're not at the places Steve goes like the gas station or McDonald's. Buzz suggests Walgreen's but Steve doesn't think he can wear flip-flops from there. He wants a sweet surfer brand.
5:52 They have that Pac Sun store but that seems more like a fake surfing store. Steve's from So Cal, he needs something real.
5:53 Today's article is from the Red Eye, Arch Enemy. Flip-flops may be harming your feet. They offer little foot support and protection and expose your feet to pain.
5:54 Doctors have seen an increase in foot-related injuries among people in their 20s and 30s that they attribute to flip-flops. After Lollapalooza Dr. Charlotte Covello, a podiatrist in the Loop, saw a lot of patients with stress fractures on their feet and torn-out toenails. Ah!
5:55 Steve would not want to be a podiatrist. Sure you might come across a girl with nice feet but that wouldn't be too often would it? Steve doesn't like seeing people in flip-flops, especially dudes. There's that look where guys wear polo shirts, khakis and flip-flops. It's a frat boy look and Steve saw it a lot when he visited Mike Dahl at U of I.
5:56 The kids wear them all the time too. This one kid Steve knows, his family came to the house for Thanksgiving and he was wearing flip-flops. Then of course he takes them out and you have to look at his damn bare feet all day. Steve doesn't even want to see his own feet although he's getting used to the look of them in flip-flops.
5:57 Jim kid has sent Steve some info on where to get flip-flops. Steve calls down to the newsroom. How does Jim know they're cool? He sees people in the 20s and 30s wearing them. Jim had a pair but he ran them down.
5:58 Did he walk around wearing them with long pants and a Corona? They were actually Jim's formal sandals, they're pretty hip. They're not Ugg hip but people wear them and they're comfortable. Buzz wants to know the difference between unhip and hip sandals. The unhip ones are probably at Walgreen's or the gas station. Don't encourage Buzz, he'll show up with gas station flip-flops on Monday.
5:59 There are calls on hold but Steve's going to keep reading. If you feel arch or heel pain you should stop wearing your flip-flops. Flip-flops are for short distances or in moderation. THat's according to Dr. Stephanie Wu assistant professor of surgery at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago. That's a lot to put on your sign.
6:00 Feet easily slip out of flip-flops and the foot has to work to find balance. Your toes tend to curl up midway to try to hang on to the flip-flop. Sure, you don't want to throw a shoe.
6:01 A study of 39 students at Auburn showed they took shorter steps when they wore flip-flops. Shorter strides mean more steps to cover the distance. The repetitive nature of walking differently could aggravate foot muscles.
6:02 Steve would have told you all of this without a study. Right now the study he's reeling from is the tilapia study. Buzz doesn't even know what that is but it sounds Mexican. Buzz is like a guy landing in a spaceship, he doesn't know tilapia and he thinks you can get flip-flops at Walgreens.
6:03 Buzz thinks if you take a poll of 10 people most of them wouldn't know what tilapia is. Good news for Buzz, Brendan doesn't know what it is either. Turns out tilapia isn't good for you because it's farm-raised. Whatever they're feeding it makes it so the fish doesn't have the good omega fats. It's no better than eating bacon!
6:04 Some flip-flop lovers are unwilling to give up their addiction. At Old Navy on a recent Saturday they had a $1 flip-flop sale. By the end of the day there were only a few pairs left.
6:05 Hertis Mullins, 22, said she doesn't plan to abandon her 10 pairs of inexpensive flip-flops even though they could be hurting her feet. She's been wearing them for years and nothing has never happened to her.
6:06 Flip-flop wearer Melissa Ariston wears them at work as an event planner. That has to be the sweetest job ever. What do you even do? Rent a tent, order up some coconut shrimp and put out a press release.
6:07 Some people are bothered by flip-flops being everywhere. Matthew Sackel, 31, sees people wearing flip-flops at restaurants, the movies, on planes. That's the worst, when it's on a plane. Because people just pop them off and there are their feet.
6:08 Matt Bartosik, a travel blogger can't stand the noise that flip-flops make, it's worse than chewing with your mouth open.
6:09 Buzz just doesn't like flip-flops period. Steve's not sure if Jim knows what's hip in terms of flip-flops. He might not be the best person to follow with all due respect. And he's probably due more respect.
6:10 Any time you're making the girl's sandals with the big platform your whole product line suffers. There are those kind of sandals on the product page Jim sent Steve. Of course most companies that make sandals probably make those platform sandals.
6:11 Caller Kurt is surprised Steve doesn't like the huaraches being from Southern California. Aren't those the sandals made from tires? Steve's not really a sandal guy, especially the ones that guys strap to their feet. Let's just cover our feet people.
6:12 Kurt knows of a California/surf-type store in the Orland Square Mall where Steve could probably find a decent pair of flip-flops. He might just stick to his deck shoes.
6:13 Huaraches were popular when Steve was a kid and people would get them from Mexico. The sole was literally cut from a tire and Steve remembers kids calling them Jesus sandals. Not that Jesus wore sandals made of tires, since they didn't have tires back then.
6:14 Caller Rod sounds like he's calling from underwater but he's just next to a bus. Rod doesn't think a Steve Dahl should be wearing cheap flip-flops. Steve has rejected Buzz's Walgreen's idea and Jim's gas station idea.
6:15 Rod is recommending Oakley, they also make flip-flops with great arch support. Steve's just going to ask Tom Thayer what kind of flip-flops he wears.
6:16 Rod loves Tom Thayer, when are we going to hear from him again? Steve has been texting Tom a lot since he also has an iPhone. The Oakley sandals aren't cheap though, they're at least $45. Rod doesn't even care what Steve's talking about does he? Rod also recommends the Oakley watches, Steve could have Oakley everything.
6:17 Steve's not trying to be rude and disrespectful when people give him tips but do you want to live in a world where he takes the advice of one listener? That's not what you want when Steve shows up to your party.
6:18 Caller Pete thinks Steve needs to go old school and get a pair of Reefs. Who wants Oakley's, they're known for sunglasses? Steve probably doesn't want an Oakley watch either, he'd be a Blackhawks jersey away from looking like John Candy in Summer Rental.
6:19 Because Pete gave Steve good advice Buzz is going to give him tickets to see the Blues Rocket Scientists this Saturday at the Harlem Avenue Lounge. That's a make-up gig for their rained-out Fourth of July gig in Berwyn.
6:20 The evening was supposed to be great, capped off by Lonnie Brooks, but it rained right when the Blues Rocket Scientists were supposed to go on. Steve thought about that on the Fourth and thought they'd just push everything back.
6:21 Musicians don't work that way because they had other gigs booked. They still got paid so this isn't really a make-up gig. Buzz is just using the people of Berwyn.
6:22 There are some more sandal calls on hold but we need to take a break. Steve also wants to play Steely Dan's Dr. Wu for Dr. Stephanie Wu.
6:23 Song: Dr. Wu, Steely Dan
6:27 The flip-flop talk is really lighting up the phone lines. You'd think it would be about the Jesse Jackson/nut-cutting remark although we haven't talked about that yet. That's a weird thing to think about another guy.
6:28 In fact Steve doesn't ever think of mutilating other guys and he probably wouldn't in the course of a political debate. As Steve suggested in his blog, maybe Jesse should get a job at an animal shelter like PAWS where they neuter dogs, just to work through it.

6:36 Ed Silha was checking in to say that he didn't like flip-flops. Buzz had a friend in Florida who used to wear flip-flops with black socks. He had a great car and he was always wearing the Madras shorts, which were hip at the time, but he had the black socks on.
6:37 His car was so cool that no one would tell him that the black socks didn't look right. Steve doesn't think friends should let friends wear black socks with sandals.
6:38 The friend used to drive around looking for people to drag race. His car was built for racing, he could get one acceleration out of it and then he'd have to take it back home to fix it. Eventually the guy became a pilot and Buzz knew if he ever heard he was his captain he would get off the plane.
6:39 Caller Chris thinks a guy like Steve needs to go with Margaritaville flip-flops. The Margaritaville name is very small on the sandals. Chris weighs 280 so he puts a lot on those sandals and they're comfortable.
6:40 They are pretty cool-looking sandals though. Chris has found them at Famous Footwear, Steve can't be shopping there. That's a discount store! It's right next to Marshall's and the second-rate auto parts place.
6:41 Caller Jim asks how Steve and Buzz are doing. They're doing great, they have a great job! Buzz was just thinking about that this morning as he was getting ready to leave the house.
6:42 Buzz gets to go in and lay around for a few hours and talk to The Stever, then go home. And they get paid for it!
6:43 Jim's getting ready to go to work, he's an intern at a construction site. He's not smart enough to be an engineer so he's a project manager. His parents most be very proud. Hopefully his dad isn't listening now.
6:44 Jim goes to ISU in Bloomington which isn't very exciting. U of I is just a little more exciting. The good thing about Bloomington is they've got the original Steak & Shake.
6:45 Steve loves Steak & Shake but in all the years he's talked about them they haven't spent a dollar on advertising. They like to do TV ads and the agency they use is based out of Indianapolis. Those ads are hip for Indianapolis which in Chicago equals Eric & Kathy.
6:46 Steve says that in the middle of a discussion about flip-flops, which couldn't be more Eric & Kathy. He's done an hour on flip-flops!
6:47 Jim is recommending Reefs even though he's not a sandal flip-flop guy. He wouldn't wear them to Thanksgiving either. Jim has seen Reef sandals with bottle openers on the bottom and some of them have flasks. That's just what Steve needs.
6:48 Steve's got two more calls and then we're done with flip-flop talk. He's going to take a break first, then the calls and then on to nut-cutting, which would be the news. Buzz hopes so.
6:55 Alright we've got Buzz coming up with the news and it seems action-packed. Steve's sitting on 5 cuts here. Buzz thought we only had 4. We should probably go through all this now.
6:56 Alright first Steve has "Jesse apology" then "Jesse remarks", number 3 is Jon Benet, number 4 is Ted Kennedy and number 5 is Daley. Buzz thought Daley was number 4. There are two Jesse cuts though so it's 5.
6:57 Caller Bob found a pair of sandals that goes over the top of his foot called Pai, they're from Hawaii and they have a website. They're the most comfortable sandals Bob has ever worn, it's like walking on pillows.
6:58 Bob's pretty sure the name is Pai but he can check when he gets into the office just to make sure. Bob's like the Tony Little of these sandals, he should become a distributor for the 48 states.
6:59 Bob actually bought two pairs when he was in Hawaii thinking he'd never see them again. Luckily they have a website. Steve's not having any luck with Pai but Bob is such a psycho about these things that he has the page bookmarked at work. Bob's from the Southside of Chicago, he's not a beach bum but he's passionate about these things.
7:00 Caller Pamela wanted to let Steve know that Teva sandals are the best for people with wide feet. Steve had a bad experience with Teva's at the Super Bowl when the Bears were in it.
7:01 Steve went to South Beach with the boys for the Penthouse party. Allegedly they had invitations or their name was on the V.I.P. list. It took forever just to get from the Morton's down there to South Beach.
7:02 They finally found a place to park but not before Steve had to briefly abandon his car on the street because of a dinner miscarriage. He ended up using the bathroom of an Art Deco hotel. That bathroom might still be roped off or else they just filled it with concrete and sealed it off.
7:03 They finally got to the club and Collins Avenue, where the club was, looked like a prison exercise yard. Snoop was playing the party so it was hip-hop city and scary hip-hop too.
7:04 They couldn't figure out how to get in and they were looking for David Hochberg who showed up in Teva sandals with pants and a shirt. Steve knew they weren't getting in with that. David motioned Steve to come over to a doorway which ended up being a room with no exit door.
7:05 Steve's going to let Pamela go because she's too fidgety. She was just typing up a quick spreadsheet which is distracting to him. It reminds him of being interviewed over the phone. The reporter always asks you a question and then you can hear them clacking away on their keyboard.
7:06 The upshot of the South Beach trip is that David looked really dorky and Steve will always associate Teva's with not being able to get into that party.
7:07 Steve might remember Pamela from Cabo, she gave him a nice t-shirt. Steve remembers her, they met at the big and tubby store. Pamela wanted Steve to marry her and her husband in Cabo but it didn't work out.
7:08 Steve remembers that whole thing, Pamela broke completely bad on Steve. She wanted a whole reception with food and tables and chairs but that's not what Steve does. He reads something and then you're married.
7:09 Joining us on the phone now is good old number 57 from the 1985 Chicago Bears, Tom Thayer. Tom wears cheap flip-flops that you get at the drugstore in Hawaii. There's a thing in Hawaii that if you're going to surf and wear flip-flops you get cheap ones in case someone steals them.
7:10 However if you're going out that night you might want to get a more formal pair with some arch support. North Face makes a good pair, as does Quicksilver. For bigger guys like Steve and Tom they need something with arch support.
7:11 Tom wants to know when Steve's going to come stand-up surfing with him. He's up for it whenever. Tom just rode down to see where Steve's boat is, they could probably do it there.
7:12 Tom thinks Steve would fall at first but then get the hang of it. Stand-up surfing is when you just stand on your board and paddle with your foot. Tom's been going out in the middle of the lake where it's really calm.
7:13 Do Steve and Tom go wetsuits for the stand-up surfing? Then they peel them off to the waist when they're done and walking around hanging out.
7:14 Tom is looking forward to hearing the roundtable on Friday, he expects Steve to dominate the conversation. Steve's also hoping to get down to Bourbonnais for training camp.
7:15 Did Steve see at the Cubs game this week? He was there with Crane Kenney and another Cubs guy. Tom was the guy sweating in the front row. It was hot but he also sweats a lot.

7:23 News with Buzz
7:24 Jesse Jackson had some harsh words for Barack Obama, words that he now regrets saying. Jesse says his comments were private and a sound bite. What does that even mean? When you're in a TV studio and you're on mic, nothing is private.
7:25 Jesse accused Barack of talking down to black people and wanting to cut his nuts off. Why doesn't everyone just say that? People are just saying he said something very vulgar, it's not that vulgar.
7:26 Steve has a louder version of the audio from Fox News, it's their audio so they have a better copy of it. Maybe you can't hear it that much better, Steve thought you could because they have the words on screen.
7:27 Jesse says Barack is talking down to black people? This coming from the guy who rhymes for black people? If someone else said this he'd be all over it until that person was brought to his or her knees.
7:28 You can't be saying you want to cut someone's nuts off, that's an inappropriate response. When Steve sees Barack at a black church he does drop his G's but he's just trying to keep it real. Oprah does it too.
7:29 Barack talks down to white people too. He went to Harvard, that's Condescending 101. Steve has never thought about doing that to a guy though. In order to do that at some point you'd have to touch a guy's hoo-hoo.
7:30 Jesse apologized, which was stupid, but to what end? He doesn't have a job he can resign from. Buzz is waiting to hear from Barack but he probably won't say anything about it. Or he'll say something funny like he had to check and make sure this morning.
7:31 Actually what Barack has done, which is probably the genius of David Axelrod, is turning that Access Hollywood interview into a debacle.
7:32 Steve's favorite thing is the guy from United Healthcare sitting next to Jesse. He has a look like "Dude, what are you doing?" Wisely the guy didn't do anything, he just had that look on his face that you get whenever someone says something weird or creepy to you.
7:33 After spending nearly 10 years issuing denials and living under a cloud of suspicion the family of Jon Benet Ramsey has been cleared of any involvement in her death. Patsy Ramsey died defending herself a few years ago.
7:34 The Iranian military has test-fired more missiles has it stages war games in the Persian Gulf.
7:35 A Medicare bill opposed by President Bush passed in the House, with help from a newly returned Ted Kennedy. He received applause from the House as he made his vote.
7:36 This audio they're sending down is not very good, it doesn't even sound like applause. Steve calls down to the newsroom although Jim answers the phone as the weather center. He said newsroom earlier so he had to say weather center. Steve is trapped in his own bit here. It's like Pete demanding the mailbag be closed.
7:37 Next time Jim should sweeten that audio up. Buzz thought it sounded better when he first heard it. Jim actually downgraded it for air. He's got sound effects and stuff down there doesn't he? Or he could do some foley work himself.
7:38 It is now illegal to have sex with a dead body in Wisconsin, that's according to the state's Supreme Court. That was the ruling on a case in which three men dug up a corpse to have sex with it. Did they all have sex with the corpse at the same time?
7:39 That's quite a rollercoaster ride for those guys. First they're found guilty, then it's overturned and then the Supreme Court finds you guilty. And all the while everyone knows what you did.
7:40 Mayor Daley is not behind a proposal to exempt theatrical productions from Chicago's indoor smoking ban. Steve and Buzz need to develop some sort of fake cigarette for theater productions.
7:41 A drunk woman in St. Petersburg, Russia, killed her husband with a folding couch. According to channel 5 in St. Petersburg, the woman and her husband were in an argument when she kicked a handle which caused the mechanism in the couch to fold up into the wall. Is that the same channel 5 that's here? Buzz would like to think it's that popular.
7:42 Data from national surveys conducted between 1981 and 2006 showed that happiness is on the rise in 40 of 50 countries.
7:43 Live read: Townstone Financial
7:48 Steve thinks his Jesse Jackson is better than Darrell Hammond's. You can't even understand Jesse any more, unless he's whispering.
7:49 Inventors have developed an electric cigarette which gives you a nicotine hit without the smoke. So a fake cigarette has already been invented. The device looks like a cigarette but uses a small chamber to turn liquid nicotine into vapors that can be inhaled.
7:50 Why doesn't Jersey Boys just get some of these? Buzz thinks that part of the enjoyment of cigarettes is blowing the smoke. And getting cancer from it?
7:51 Buzz is surprised these things haven't made a dent in the American market. It's embarrassing when this stuff happens in Chicago, like the foie gras. Now we've got this thing.
7:52 Why don't people figure all this stuff out before they pass the laws? It makes us look like idiots and we're not idiots. It's 4 guys smoking in a play, it's not a big deal. Are there 4 guys in the Four Seasons? Or is it Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons? Steve's done everything he can so far to avoid seeing it.
7:53 It's the same thing with the cellphone ban. When Steve was in LA he didn't know if they had the same ban and he didn't have his hands free with him. A cop pulled next to him and he didn't know what to do so he just dropped the phone.
7:54 Earlier Steve mentioned that tilapia study he heard about. Buzz doesn't know what tilapia is. Turns out it's not that healthy for you. Farm-raised tilapia has very low levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and high levels of omega-6 fatty acids. Steve would not want to be a tilapia farmer today.
7:55 Researchers say that combination could be potentially dangerous for patients with heart disease, arthritis, asthma and other allergic and auto-immune diseases.
7:56 In the U.S. tilapia has show the biggest gains in popularity among seafood. Farm-raised tilapia and seafood have fatty acid characteristics that would be considered detrimental.
7:57 Buzz is wondering about salmon, there's a lot of salmon being eaten in his house and he doesn't want it to be under false pretenses. Steve does know that farm-raised salmon has to be dyed to look more salmony.
7:58 Tilapia has higher levels of omega-6 fatty acids than 80% lean hamburger, donuts and even bacon.
7:59 Omega-3 fatty acids have many health benefits though. The American Heart Association recommends two servings of fish per week and at least 1 gram a day of critical omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids appears to be an important fact that dictates anti-inflammatory effects of fish oils.
8:00 Fish oil, isn't that what Pete's girlfriend's roommate is always pushing on him. Pete? Steve forgot that this is when Pete is watching his programs.
8:01 Alright, time for the Eight O'Clock Taco Bell. On the phone is 13-year-old Colin who's going with the #9 meal which is a Crunch Wrap Supreme. How does a Colin get to Taco Bell? Does his mom drive?
8:02 Steve's not sure if he's ever had a Crunch Wrap Supreme. He might have to have one tomorrow. Actually he could go for one right now.
8:03 Also at Taco Bell right now you can get the Queso Crunch Wrap. It has 3 different cheeses and seasoned beef.
8:04 Caller Matt thinks Steve's instincts served him well in California, they just enacted a handsfree law on July 1st. Steve was there in June but he still just threw his phone down.
8:05 Generally speaking the hands free law doesn't seem that stupid. Whenever Steve is driving and someone is doing something stupid they're on their phone.
8:06 The irritating thing for Buzz about handsfree is that it seems like no one enforces it. How about a citizen's arrest? Buzz would love to be a policeman in charge of arresting cellphone users. He'd have so much fun doing it and the arrests would be righteous.
8:07 That's funny to Matt since Buzz is the guy who didn't know you had to signal when changing lanes. Steve isn't familiar with this story. Buzz was coming back from a bar, because he only has the car on weekends to drunk drive, and he got pulled over.
8:08 Luckily Aimee was there otherwise Buzz would have been incarcerated. He was driving down Western Avenue, monitoring the speed limit and he got pulled over. Buzz couldn't believe it so he rolls down the window and says "Is this a speeding thing?" Maybe he shouldn't have been so aggressive.
8:09 So the cop asked him to step out of the car and had him walk in a straight line with his head down. But when you're doing that and the cop tells you to look up you're going to go off line no matter what.
8:10 Then another cop pulled up behind and the two officers were talking to each other. Buzz heard the other guy say "I don't care who he is!" but luckily the guy who pulled him over knew who he was without Buzz having to even say anything. Then they let Aimee drive home.
8:11 Live read: McCracken Financial
8:12 McCracken's phone number is 1-800 NEW LOAN. Earlier in the week Steve was wondering why you had to also give out the numbers. What's the point of going through the trouble of getting that special number?
8:13 Someone emailed Steve with an answer. She has a Blackberry and the numbers on those letters aren't he same as a standard phone. This woman must be in California because she drives to work on the 5. We get listeners from everywhere because of the streaming. That allows Steve to lie and tell his parents he's syndicated.
8:21 Caller John was watching TMZ the other day and they had video of Al Pacino in an SUV on his cellphone. Steve finds that show fascinating, the way that Harvey Levin guy just talks to all those kids who are in cubicles.
8:22 It's a great way to transition into all of these different stories. They've just got people saying what they have, as if they're preparing to do the show but really they're doing the show.
8:23 A cameraman reminded him about the new law and he just said "Have a nice day". Steve doesn't really do an Al Pacino other than a little Scarface. Buzz thinks he's got a good "HOO-AH" in him too.
8:24 Jeremy Piven also got caught driving while on the phone but it's only a $20 ticket. Steve can't even see cops bothering with that. Or they'll just pull you over and beat you with a stick.
8:25 Buzz has not seen TMZ. Steve doesn't seek the show out because what does that say about him? But when it's on he watches. What does that say about him though?
8:26 Steve has the Al Pacino video, HOO-AH! Buzz has never seen all of Scent of a Woman. Did he walk out on it? Buzz was on a plane, where you can't walk out of the movie, and he was shocked that Pacino actually said HOO-AH for the entire movie. So he just took his headphones off.
8:27 That TMZ show is interesting though. What better way is there to present all of this seemingly unrelated video?
8:30 Caller Kelly learned, while trying to dial the show on the Blackberry, that there's a little guy that pops up on the screen and tells you which letters correspond to numbers.
8:31 Steve doesn't have a Blackberry but he has an iPhone. As Steve recalls the Blackberry didn't interact well with the Mac computers when he had one.
8:32 Apple probably knew that the iPhone was coming out so they didn't want to make the Blackberry compatible with their computer. That's Apple, those guys are crazy.
8:33 Buzz saw a video on YouTube where a guy was claiming that the video adapter for the iPhone or iPod was exactly the same as any other video adapters except they had switched around two wires so you had to use the Apple product. Steve's going to look for the YouTube video but it wouldn't surprise him at all.
8:34 Alright Pat Boyle is on the phone. There's also some Jesse Jackson on TV, is this from yesterday or is it new?
8:35 The Jesse stuff is from yesterday. It took Steve a half hour of watching the coverage to finally find what Jesse said. Maybe if hadn't apologized everyone would have glossed over it.
8:36 There's no downside in all of this for Jesse, he can't get fired because he doesn't have a job.
8:37 Last night Steve was in communication with Pat because he was watching the Sox game. They always kid about Hawk talking about Yaz or Rocky Calavito. Hawk was sort of out of it because the Sox were down 5 runs.
8:38 In order to bring Hawk back in DJ had to drop a Rocky Calavito on him and it did bring him back in. It also helped that Carlos Quentin hit a 2-run home run.
8:39 It was an exciting game with the Sox coming from behind again. It's weird to win a game on a balk like that too. There was also an incident during the game involving Jermaine Dye and Orlando Cabrera.
8:40 Cabrera was on second and stole third when Dye was at the plate. Dye struck out but Cabrera eventually scored. When the inning ended there was a dust-up between them. There hasn't been an official explanation but Dye might have been mad because he's stealing when they're trying to come from behind.
8:41 This is how Dye repays his teammates for hiring a plane to fly over and remind people to vote for him for the All-Star game. That's embarrassing to Steve, they're practically begging.
8:42 Jermaine Dye deserves to be playing in the All-Star game but if he's not going to get elected then screw it. Plus the All-Star game isn't always that great. In 2006 the Sox had a ton of players and then the season basically went South after that.
8:43 The banner did seem like a good idea though and it got every TV station in Chicago to cover it. It probably even got some love on ESPN even though it's in Kansas City.
8:44 The Sox needed to win last night because the Twins got pounded by the Red Sox. Things couldn't have gone better last night for both Chicago teams. That Carlos Zambrano is unbelievable.
8:45 Hawk finally got back into the game after the Quentin home run although you'll notice in the tape that Hawk isn't even talking during the call. He's probably down the hall making a golf tee time.
8:46 Some of the Sox players and Hawk and DJ went to something at the Negro League Hall of Fame. Hawk must have left early because he had to ask DJ how the Q & A went.
8:47 Then there was the incident after the game with Jermaine Dye and Orlando Cabrera. DeWayne Wise had to actually step in and break it up. And he's a little guy too.
8:48 So the Sox now lead the Twins by 3 1/2 games and are going for the sweep against the Royals today.
8:49 Meanwhile Carlos Zambrano might have been reminding everyone that he's still the ace after last night. Lou let him bat in the 8th too just to keep him calm. Even Lou's scare of him.
8:50 Lou wasn't very good at keeping a secret about when Rich Harden would start before yesterday's game. Someone has to move to the bullpen, it'll probably be Sean Marshall.
8:51 The first night race at Joliet will be this Saturday. Juan Pablo Montoya was at Wrigley doing the 7th Inning Stretch. It's another example of why race car drivers should not sing the Stretch.
8:52 That was a really bad rendition. Midway through the guy started singing a completely different tune. Isn't he from Mexico or something? He probably doesn't even know that song.
8:53 The Comcast cameras were panning the crowd and at one point they had an elderly gentleman with his hands over his ears. Make it stop!
8:54 When Steve was at The Cell for the Crosstown Classic some Cubs fan said "I wonder where they got that idea" during the 7th Inning Stretch. First of all, Harry started it with the White Sox. The whole stretch thing came from a President who was at a game.
8:55 Harry also wasn't the first guy to even sing the during the 7th Inning Stretch either. Steve really wanted to punch the guy though and he wasn't even drunk. The good thing about not being drunk is you don't punch people. Even with the press pass Steve probably couldn't get out of the jail at The Cell.
9:02 Joe Rios has spent the last 10 seasons in charge of Wrigley's 7th inning show. Usually he's standing in the hall listening to Jeff Gordon, Ozzy Osbourne or some other celebrity. He must have been worrying a lot last night.
9:03 If it sounds great it's a bonus but if the song sounds bad it's more in keeping with the Harry way of doing things. Since 1998 Bea Arthur, Horatio Sanz, Muhammad Ali, Richard Petty, Randy Savage and Hank Stram have just been some of the people who have sung as a tribute to Harry.
9:04 Baseball is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Take Me Out to the Ballgame but without Caray and Chicago's two baseball teams the song would have never become what it is today.
9:05 When Caray joined the Sox in 1976 Bill Veeck noticed that he liked to hum the song with organist Nancy Faust. Veeck asked Caray if he'd like to sing and he wanted no part of it.
9:06 Bill Veeck's son Mike, who's involved in way too many interviews says Harry was very vain. He didn't understand the concept that people in the extreme bowels of the stadium. Mike's quote makes no sense at all. Do you really want to say bowels?
9:07 Bill explained to Harry that he'd already taped the announcer singing during breaks and he could just play that. Jesus, the song raped Harry!
9:08 Mike Veeck gives his dad credit for inventing a lot of stuff. Steve's just going with Harry inventing it.
9:09 They've got a list of all the people who have sung and it's broken up into several categories like movie stars, coaches, baseball players, special guests. Steve's name is nowhere on here.
9:10 Steve doesn't think he'd want to sing anyway, he doesn't want to sit around for most of the game being nervous about it.
9:11 It was just really irritating hearing that Cubs fan. It was invented right across the street, that's where they got the idea.
9:12 Steve doesn't remember hearing Take Me Out to the Ballgame when he would go to Dodgers games, maybe it was a White Sox thing. We'll have to get Mike Veeck on the blower to clear it up, if he's not too busy giving Disco Demolition interviews.
9:13 Steve has become concerned with Pete today because every time he tries to talk to him he's busy doing something else. Then Steve thought that maybe Pete got in trouble with the girlfriend.
9:14 Steve tried to bring up the fish oil pills and Pete acted like he had no idea what he was talking about. That made Steve think he got in trouble. And that his girlfriend told him to not say he got in trouble.
9:15 Maybe Pete just blew his wad yesterday? Or was it two days ago? If it's two days Pete should have recovered. With this new schedule everyday feels like two days so it's hard to keep track.
9:16 So Pete didn't get in trouble and everything's fine over there. He doesn't need us to call 9-11? Pete actually got positive feedback from his girlfriend, who listens online.
9:17 Does she say anything about his hair? Or maybe she talks to the roommate and tries to get him to bring up Propecia or fish oil pills. Pete really thinks that the roommate is just trying to help him out. Guys don't offer other guys advice on their balding pate, at least not in front of the girlfriend.
9:18 Then Pete goes to her apartment and stays there with the roommate! He'd feel much better if the apartment was two stories though. Why doesn't he just get a hotel room?! Steve knows how much he makes, he can afford it!
9:19 Is Catman mad at Pete because he told the story about losing that girl to the Cubs players? Catman doesn't want people knowing that he failed. Pete should ask Catman about this dude, Steve has a feeling they'd see eye-to-eye.
9:20 Buzz feels that the roommate's actions are indefensible. Pete needs to bring Steve and Buzz next time although they can't be trusted either. This is the nature of all guys.
9:21 Steve hears that Catman has taken Ed Silha under his wing and Pete is being replaced. Ed wouldn't Cub-block like that. In fact Ed would probably be over there working the Cubs himself.
9:22 The girlfriend hasn't mentioned anything about the roommate though, not assurances or anything. Alright, Steve and Buzz are taking Pete to New York this weekend and they're fixing this whole thing.
9:23 There have been times that Pete has wondered...do we need to turn the stream off so Pete can talk openly? Pete has noticed that sometimes the girlfriend goes missing when the roommate comes home late from his bartender job. She says she has trouble sleeping.
9:24 And yet Pete never voices any objections to any of this? Steve and Buzz need to take Pete under their wing for sure. They're not trying to cause any trouble, they want to prevent trouble.
9:25 Something has happened to Pete though. Steve hopes it's not he and Buzz but they need to get him to think about all this.

9:30 Caller Richard is up in Round Lake. Is the lake really round? Richard thinks Pete is a nice guy. Buzz's sound has cut out so he's not hearing anything. He thought Richard just wanted to say Pete was a nice guy.
9:31 Now Richard isn't there, he's got his radio on and it's too loud and there's a minute delay so he's completely lost. What he was going to say is that Pete should get a female roommate, fight fire with fire. That doesn't seem like a great idea if Pete is interested in keeping the relationship.
9:32 In a moment Steve is going to explain why this dude is sitting next to Buzz but he shouldn't worry. Buzz must have felt naked though, unplugged and with this dude there.

9:34 Steve got this email from a listener, who's husband turned 40 today. That's Greg Pellegrino who's in the studio now.
9:35 Greg's wife has been planning something for his birthday for a few years. A few years? She kept going back to Steve since Greg's been a longtime fan of the show.
9:36 On the show calendar it says "Pellegrino" which made Steve think someone was bringing water into the studio.
9:37 Greg has been a longtime fan of the show, since high school. He has old Steve and Garry tapes in the basement which she's forbidden to thrown out. That a boy!
9:38 Greg always wanted to be in radio and be like Steve. Greg can probably see what a nightmare that is after 10 minutes in here. Greg even took his wife on one of their first dates to a Dahlfins show.
9:39 This letter is so nice, you can see how hard it was to say no. Also Steve's charging Greg's wife $1500 for this. After college Greg gave up his radio dreams and went into the food brokerage business with his dad. Now he owns his own successful food brokerage business.
9:40 Buzz is wondering what soured Greg from radio. He was an intern at ABC and it was OK but he realized that he might need something else just in case.
9:41 Greg and his wife and daughters are spending the day downtown. They're going to try to hit the zoo and maybe the Adler. What about that American Girl place? He's got 4 daughters, they're going to demand American Girl.
9:42 Buzz warns Greg against trying to cram all of that in one day. Why not just go to the zoo? You've got live animals and you never know when there could be a mauling.
9:47 News with Buzz
9:48 This just in, Christie Brinkley and her husband have settled their divorce. Buzz knows the whole country was worried about that. Did that guy's woman blab on him, is that what happened?
9:49 Meanwhile Hillary and Barack Obama appeared together at a campaign event in New York. HIllary remains confident that Obama will be elected President. Steve heard that Barack wants to make Hillary VP just so she can deal with Jesse Jackson, there's nothing to cut.
9:50 Caller Gar is the general manager of American Girl Place. They're booked this time of year but he can get the Pellegrino's in if they want. It's American Girl Day at Wrigley today so a lot of their employees will be out there.
9:51 Buzz just saw the American Girl movie Kit Kittridge, he though it was really good. Gar thought they did a great job and they just had some of the cast in for the premiere.
9:52 Steve's going to give Gar a spin of the wheel, quid pro quo. Plus we get his contact info in case we need to hook Buzz up.
9:53 Buzz would love to take Piper to the store but he's hesitant. It's just more stuff in the house for Piper. There's barely enough room for the family with all of her stuff.
9:54 Buzz could always just tell her that those dolls come alive and night in your bedroom, then she won't want anything to do with it.
9:55 OK, let's get back to the news. Jesse made some comments under his breath although he was on mic so they're not really private.
9:56 That dude from United Healthcare, the look on his face is priceless. There's now some speculation that Jesse did it on purpose to get some attention. Steve wouldn't put it past him. Based on the sequences of events with the apology and Jesse Jr. renouncing him before anyone really knew what was happening, it seems entirely possible.
9:57 Grumpy employers and employees are probably growing in numbers according to research into U.S. workers. Nearly half of workers report frequent yelling at work. Not here though, not as much anyway. Steve only yells if something happens that you can't take back. Then he wants to get his money's worth.
9:58 Fandango is reporting that many midnight shows of The Dark Knight are already sold out across the country. Many theaters are adding 3 am and 6 am shows.
9:59 It's not like the film dissolves after one day, it'll be in the theaters for months. The movie is getting spectacular reviews though, it's gonna be huge. Is it getting better reviews because Heath Ledger died? Steve's seen the trailer and Ledger seems awesome but also haunting.
10:00 Buzz can't help but think that Heath's role as the Joker played a part in his demise. Steve has heard that speculation but he's also heard that it's not true. Buzz has read reports that Heath often showed up looking homeless or lost.
10:01 Mayor Daley is defending police superintendent Jody Weis for his handing of the Taste of Chicago security. How is that Weis' fault? There were enough cops there and it didn't happen on Taste grounds. So you can't really call it the Taste of Hot Lead.
10:02 What else can Weis do? Why don't people try to raise their kids to not want to shoot other people. There were 3 million people downtown that weekend and 3 people got shot, that seems alright to Steve.
