One of the nice things about having my afternoons relatively free (besides getting to take a nap) are the uninterrupted hours and hours of TV I am able to watch under the guise of “prepping for the show”. Usually, I take a nap right when I get home at or around noon. Most days I bring home a Subway turkey sandwich from the office, eat the sandwich and fall asleep during Mr. Food. Then I wake up and watch a little Fox Business Channel (Happy Hour is my favorite show,) before grinding out cycle after cycle of local TV news. I also try and watch all three of the network newscasts. I’m old so I think that “the networks” are CBS, NBC and ABC.
At 7:00 I watch Countdown With Keith Olbermann, then I head upstairs to watch some lighter fare. Now that I have typed all of this, I can see why Janet thinks that I am a total news junkie loser, and why she spends much of her time in the back room shopping for shoes online and watching all of the maudlin Greg Berlanti shows that she can get her eyeballs on. I like sports and news and she likes hour-long dramas. We do agree on a few sitcoms (30 Rock and The Office), but often we lead separate and independent TV lives. Heck, she wasn’t even interested in watching Drew Peterson on Dr. Phil with me on Monday afternoon.
Tonight, after I type his and head up out of my basement office/studio, I am planning on going up to bed and watching Monday Night Football until the Ambien kicks in. Usually I have a second Subway sandwich squirreled away in case there’s no effort to make or get dinner afoot. Monday night I’ll be eating my second sandwich because Janet went out to lunch (she only eats once a day) and she’s concentrated on making a dessert for the book club she’s hosting on Tuesday evening. I’m still not sure where I’m going to park myself during that estrogen-filled nightmare, but I’m open to all suggestions. It usually ends late. Too bad the Blackhawks don’t play until Wednesday.
