The snowstorm that all of the weather people had been predicting for Wednesday morning arrived “late,” but it finally got here. I don’t see how a storm can be “late,” since it’s a storm and has no prior commitments. It seems like it might have been misforecasted (if that’s even a word) but I’m no Brant Miller. My trainer canceled my workout on Wednesday, so I figured that I would do some cardio snow shoveling, and just as I got up to do it at around 4:00 p.m., my plow guy comes. I would just call that a blessing, if I hadn’t been sitting around snacking all afternoon. I will try to treadmill in the basement, but that seems very unappealing to me at this time.
I finally watched a movie that I rented from Netflix all of the way through. It was a funny and quirky low-budget film called Never Been Thawed. It’s about a group of people who collect frozen entrees as a hobby and their misadventures in Arizona. It features not only clowns who cut kid’s hair, a Christian rock band, and really mean and stupid deaf guy, but also a gay firefighter, a sexual abstinence hotline (The Bill Clinton Center), and an organized Alphabet Game/Slug Bug league. I don’t know how I happened upon NBT, but I’m glad I did. I get the feeling that it might already be a cult hit, so maybe you’ve already heard of it. It seemed like an appropriate choice for a frozen Chicago afternoon.
I also rented Slapshot from Netflix, so maybe I’ll alternate between that and the actual Blackhawks game on Comcast SportsNet on Wednesday night. I don’t remember how Slapshot ends, but I think it’s a happy ending. I’m hoping the Blackhawks game doesn’t end badly as well. It seems like forever since they’ve been at United Center. When Patrick Kane left town, he wasn’t even able to legally drink. When he returns he will be in his thirties with three kids. I guess I’d rather watch movies about ice and snow during weather like this. Why get my hopes up with anything tropical? I must also admit to the guilty pleasure of watching the American Idol auditions too. They make me feel better about my borderline musical talent.
