I must say that I’m a little disappointed that Brett Favre didn’t attend the Packers press conference during which his retirement was announced on Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong; I think that Brett Favre is a really good player, and in fact he is one of my all-time favorites. I just like seeing guys cry on TV, especially when they are athletes and even more so when they are football players. What is it that makes them at once so tough, and then again so vulnerable? I thought I’d had my fill of Brett Favre crying on New Year’s Eve 2006 at Soldier Field (the game where Rex couldn’t concentrate), but I was so horribly wrong. I want a final 10 to 15 minute crying jag from #4, minimum. I think they actually make tissue in Green Bay, so it’s convenient and appropriate.
Today after the show and after my Pilates, I went up to the Paulina Meat Market. Man, was that place awesome. You know that I’m a big (very big) fan of smoked, encased meats, and they have every kind of sausage that you could ever want or even imagine, and they make them all themselves. Salami, landjäger, bologna-- you name it, they have it. And the fresh meat looked pretty darned good too. The Paulina Meat Market is on Lincoln these days and not Paulina, but it’s just a little north of Belmont and very much worth the trip. Their beef jerky is made from the tri-tip, and it’s tender and delicious. They gave me some corned beef hash to give Buzz, but I might just keep it for myself since he claims to prefer the stuff that comes out of the can.
Wednesday night is the night that I am saluted as a radio icon (their words, not mine) at the Blackhawks game. I drop the ceremonial puck at 7:30 p.m., right before the National Anthem. We have given away 100 seats on the air and via the Jack FM web site, but I’m thinking that if you still wanted to attend the event, you should be able to buy tickets from the Blackhawks. Forget about me, it’s the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks in town and the Hawks played them very hard and very physically the last time the Ducks were at the United Center. As of late Tuesday afternoon, you could still buy two on the glass. I hope to see you "out" there (out pronounced "ooute"). It’s not every day you’ll see me in a Blackhawks sweater with a fighting strap.
