Whenever I sit down to blog on a Sunday evening, I make a concerted effort not to blog too much about sports. As it turns out, my weekends are filled with a lot of sports. There were three White Sox games, the NFL Draft, and I even attended my niece’s soccer game. I guess that’s more of a family type obligation, although I definitely enjoyed the competitive nature of the contest between ten-year-old girls. I think she’s ten-years-old; I’m not really even sure. It’s hard enough for me to keep track of the ages of my own kids. I am aware, however, that Patrick Dahl turns 27 on Monday. My niece’s team lost, by the way, but it was exciting right up to the very end.
I also had the chance to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall on Sunday and let me add my voice to the chorus of people raving about how funny it is. We went and saw it at Muvico in Rosemont and sat in the VIP section of the theater. I know VIP sounds expensive, but there’s only a $7.50 surcharge and you get free popcorn and free valet parking. They also have a nice Levy Brothers restaurant there called Bogart’s. Matt Dahl is a waiter (or waitress as he calls himself) there. I really shouldn’t be giving away all of this information about the place since I like theaters that aren’t too crowded, but I think this one is teetering on the verge of something bad. Check it out. You won’t be sorry.
I know it’s a free country and all, but what is the deal with Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Does he not want Barack Obama to be the first African American Democratic Party nominee for President? It’s almost like he’s just using the spotlight just to draw attention to himself (not even God). If his message is that African Americans can do anything, he might want to just shut up and let it happen. Ironically, he might very well be responsible for derailing the best chance an African American has had to change the racial climate in this country since Lincoln freed the slaves. It’s almost like Reverend Wright is working for someone else. Or, maybe he thinks he knows something about Obama that we don’t.
