By the time you read this, I will have already gone back downtown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon to take part in a CBS seminar for advertisers on the power of radio. I have been asked to introduce Dan Mason, the President of CBS Radio which is an honor, and then I’m introducing the band at the end of the show too. They are called Ludo, and I have been told that they are on Island Records. I’m getting a little too old to care who’s on what label, but I did check the band out at iTunes and they seemed quite enjoyable. I said that they should have an 'XRT jock (Lin Bremer) introduce Ludo, but they went with me. Once a DJ, always a DJ, I guess.
CBS has been very good to me over the past 13 years here in Chicago, and I will always do anything I can to help them out. Have I succumbed to the corporate pressures? No, in fact CBS leaves us alone to do what we do best. They give me state of the art facilities and all of the support the Steve Dahl Show staff needs to be incredibly successful. Of course, when we are incredibly successful we all make a lot of money, but when we aren’t they have stood by me until things got back on course. Currently, things are going pretty well at Jack, and that’s because CBS gave Buzz and me a shot at experimenting with the tried and true Jack format.
Yes, I am practicing some of what I will say in my introduction at the Chicago Theater tonight; I hope you don’t mind. It’s also supposed to be funny, so I’m going to point out how Rod Zimmerman, the Market Manager for CBS Chicago has had his flow chart thrown off by introducing me to introduce the company’s President. I am also going to say that we seem to have a disagreement over the location of a decimal point with respect to my ratings bonus. Of course, I’m kidding about these things (somewhat), but I need to liven it up with a little comedy. I was thinking about dropping my pants and saying “I’ve got your Jack right here,” but a cooler mind -- and weather -- have prevailed.
