I know I should be scouting the Cubs at Tampa Bay in preparation for the Crosstown Classic this weekend, but somehow I’ve ended up watching Last Comic Standing. It is a really lame show and so far NONE of the people on it have been funny, including the judges who allegedly are comedians. Network TV is in shambles. With a few notable exceptions like The Office and 30 Rock. it seems like NBC has all but given up. Can the same people who gave us Seinfeld also be the ones who have given us Nashville Star with Billy Ray Cyrus? Sadly, I think they are. I’d rather watch guys catching crabs in Alaska (and that’s not porn either).
I will be watching the Crosstown Classic on TV, since I don’t have season tickets at Wrigley, and quite frankly, no one has invited me. There is a part of me that wants to figure out how to either get on a rooftop or into the press box, but I’m sure by game time on Friday I will be more than happy to head on home and watch from the comfort of my couch. After three games with the Pirates during which the White Sox scored 37 runs, I can see why the Cubs fans love the fact that their team will play the Bucks 18 times in 2008. The Pirates seem like they are hapless and that they can be scored upon at will. That would make them the perfect prom date.
I know that the Cubs have had their troubles in Tampa this week, but the Sox had a run of bad luck down there a few weeks ago as well. Both teams have beaten the crap out of the Pirates and have had trouble in Tampa recently. They are also both in first place, and for once the Crosstown Classic should live up to its billing. I couldn’t be more excited about it. I haven’t had this much fun since A.J. Pierzynski accidentally walked into Michael Barrett’s elbow. I do have tickets to the Cubs/Sox games at U.S. Cellular Field next week. I’m hoping by then that the series is still relevant. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be, but sometimes these things go sideways fast. Like last year when the Sox sucked.
