It looks like I’ll finally be back in the WCKG studios on Monday, and I have to say that I can’t wait. I’ve been talking about the need for a new studio at WCKG, or CKG as we in the know call it, for 10 years, and it’s finally come to fruition. Fruition sounds like an event at the upcoming Gay Games here in Chicago. I do know that the Gay Games will feature no broad jumping, except in the women’s division, pole vaulting will only be done by men, and the guy hurdles, and javelin throwing are also male-only events. I believe the women also have a pie eating competition, but I’m not 100% sure on that one.

Anyway, back to the studio. I guess I’m glad that it took so long to make it a reality, because now it’s completely digital, or space age, as I like to call it. With the advent of HD Radio, streaming, podcasting and the like, digital is necessary just in terms of getting the best signal out there, and we are the beneficiaries of that technological breakthrough. Space age is also appropriate, because from what I’ve seen, the thing looks like the bridge of the USS Enterprise.

I’m sure there will be a few technical glitches on Monday, and I’m coming in early for a training session, but you know what I think: Technical glitches cannot only be entertaining, but fun. Well, see if that’s the case on Monday, I guess. Part of me doesn’t even want to come in for a training session and just start winging it a 2:00 CDT. I don’t think I’ve ever actually attended a training session, and if I have, I guess I wasn’t paying attention, because as sure as heck don’t remember one.

So, I’ve done two weeks worth of shows from New Buffalo, MI, and a week downstairs in my basement, and I think that for the most part, they went really well. I miss seeing Buzz, Wendy, Pete, Brendan and that Jim kid, but I bet they don’t miss seeing Steve Dahl in a jury-rigged temporary studio. I’m thinking that “mad Steve” makes a lot of appearances in a place like that. So, thanks, everybody, for all of your patience, and I’ll see you on Monday.
