Friday morning we will be out at Arlington Park for a live broadcast, and we’d love it if you stopped by. Buzz and I will be on the air for our standard 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. stint, and the first 100 people who show up get a free breakfast. Admission is also free and so is parking, and if you’re the 101st person to show up, breakfast will only cost you $7.00 ($4.00 if you’re a kid). Levy Restaurants does the Arlington catering, so it will be good. Of course we don’t urge kids to steal their parent’s cars and come for the cheap breakfast, but I’m sure that things like that happen all of the time. If you’re really little, make sure you strap your car seat in before you hit the road, okay?
I’m skipping the Sox game to check out the Bears at Soldier Field on Thursday night. I’m not sure why I would forego a proven winning team to see the Bears muddle through another quarterback controversy, but that’s what I’ve decided to do. Why can’t we be lucky like those New York Jets and pick up a Hall of Fame quarterback while he still has a few seasons left in him? From what I can tell, trading Brett Favre is not a popular move in Green Bay. Conversely, Jets fans seem to be delirious (and not their usual delirium). I don’t blame them one bit, and they’ve even had a Hall of Fame quarterback in the modern era (Joe Namath).
We will be talking Bears postgame with Tom Thayer on Friday. It’s always interesting and informative to get Tom’s take on the team as the season goes along, and we will be lucky enough to have that perspective again for all of the 2008-2009 season. Tom is an optimist, which is always calming. I’m hoping that Kyle Orton and Matt Forte light it up on Thursday and we can spend the entire conversation controlling our giddiness about Kyle and how awesome his new running back is. Short of that, Tom took me to the East Bank Club for the first time in my entire life on Thursday afternoon, so we’ll have that to fall back on if we just want to change the subject.
