On The Passing of Terry Armour
I was Terry Armour's radio mentor, but he was my newspaper mentor. Terry, or "T" as I called him, helped me land the Tribune Vice Advisor column. I respected Terry's writing immensely and will always be grateful to him for giving me a chance to express my self in print. Terry was a true friend in every sense of the word. He was the type who always wanted to give the impression that he was just having a good time, but was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. He never let that hard work get in the way of his being able to enjoy himself, his family, or his friends.
He was a Chicago treasure on the verge of really making it big. For us to lose him now, and in this way, is beyond tragic; it's just plain unfair. There will never be another Terry Armour or anyone even remotely like him. As with all great Chicago icons, that's the way it always is, and the way it should be.
