It’s Brendan’s birthday today, and Steve and Dag go out of their way to heap love and praise on him… after being reminded of the fact that it’s his birthday. In fact, the show ends in a heap of self-scorn, despite Brendan’s sunny disposition. Steve and Dag will never forget the date again. In the meantime, we learn that Roger Dahl insisted that the family burn coal in their home’s fireplace, not wood. That could explain a lot of things.
