January 15, 2025The Pecan Do Spirit
Steve has recently been in touch with his nearly 90-year-old Uncle John in Minnesota, and he’s enjoyed their email exchanges. Janet will be accompanying Steve to his upcoming radiation oncologist appointment, making sure that the pertinent questions get asked and answered. Janet’s got a good idea for their 50th anniversary celebration, even though it’s roughly 3.5 years away. We finish off our Talk To Me Tuesday phone calls, meaning the phone bank is clear and ready to be filled up again, dear subscribers! (708) NOW-I-WAV is the numero.

January 14, 2025Sweet Pair O’ Mine
Steve loves his Dockers and sometimes even works out in one particular style of them. He also reiterates his love for the series “Landman” on Paramount+. Two police officers rescued a coyote from a Humboldt Park Aldi. We wonder if the he was looking for the chicken salad in the refrigerated section. Try the Envy apples next time, Rin-Tin-Tin. Brendan has fallen in love with composting all over again, and drives his waste to Logan Square, which seems somewhat counter-productive. Remember, only lettuce can prevent forest fires! Steve generates an instant AI resume and it’s actually fairly impressive.

January 13, 2025A Lot of Bull
Brendan and Hank welcomed Dag into Brendan’s home studio this morning as Dag raced over after appearing on WGN-TV with Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy. Steve and grandson Charlie had an awesome time at the PBA bull riding event over the weekend at Allstate Arena, Tom Thayer is pumped for his Fightin’ Irish and can’t wait to see them vie for the title. He’s also got some thoughts on a particular coach’s sartorial skills, or lack of them.

January 10, 2025Rock Star Coming Through
Steve likes the 60s style environment of his dentist’s office. His late night apple eating sessions left him with a cavity, as well as some interesting topics of discussion with both the hygienist and the dentist. Speaking of late nights, Dag has returned from his Jimmy Fallon appearance. He was treated (repeatedly) like a rock star by a TSA employee at LaGuardia. Buzz and his daughter Piper are getting along these days, and he joins us for the season finale of Brendan’s continuing series, The Virginia Monologues. Buzz is adept at embracing the solitude of Xmas.

January 9, 2025My City Was Gone
Dag rocked The Tonight Show alongside Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy last night. Jimmy Fallon hung out with the band before the show, and Dag says he was very cool. Rosie doesn’t enjoy doing her business out in the cold. Steve claims she’s remarking her territory in a way that’s easier to clean up. Wildfires continue to rage across Southern California, including the house Steve lived in until he was 9-years-old. His elementary school (attended with David Lee Roth) was also damaged if not destroyed. A clinical trial to extend dogs lives is ongoing in and at labs across the United States. Who’s down for that? Steve’s down for that.

January 8, 2025I’m Steve Guttenberg, Damn It!
Steve got his prostate biopsy results toady. We discuss. He is also planning on attending the Chicago Boat Show in Rosemont this weekend. He is not sizing up votes for a Viking funeral. Dag checks in from Studio 6B ahead of his appearance with Michael Shannon on The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon. Another Steve; Steve Guttenberg made a live announcement on KTLA amidst the wildfires in Pacific Palisades. He is not recognized at first by the reporter.

January 7, 2025Shucking and Jiving
Dag is at O’Hare International Airport with his guitar and his pork pie hat. He grabs a morning milkshake to take on his American Airlines flight. Steve got kicked off of Linkedin for suspicion of spamming. His case is being appealed. Country star Riley Green went the emergency room with a boot full of corn. Brendan is not interested in seeing ‘Shucked’ in place of Steve and Janet tonight. Kylie Kelce is a big fan of Shirley Temples. Callers share thoughts about Chappell Roan, On Patrol: Live, and peach marmalade/chutney.
-
January 6, 2025Monkey Bread Monday
We’ve got a pair of questions from the DahlCast kitchen this morning. Chutney: What is it? Monkey Bread: What is it? Steve has the answers. Tom Thayer feels good about the Bears road win over the Packers, and he’s been schooling the players and staff about the historical significance of this football rivalry. He also explains post-game sandwich protocol. A discussion of Cairo Santos’ victory dance (think: flightless bird) leads to a thoughtful discussion on teamwork. Steve and Brendan watched the Golden Globes. Nikki Glaser was a terrific host. Dag is preparing to take a big trip to New York for a major TV appearance.

January 3, 2025A Tight Ninety
On today’s 90-minute podcast we have a chat with a mobile Mike Mascow from Roast2Order coffee. Mike is in the car with his Basenji, Sally picking up some beans. The pup isn’t very vocal (a characteristic of the breed), but she listens to Steve intently through the vehicles speakers. Steve is apparently vocal enough for both of them. Our 708-NOW-I-WAV callers touch on topics including the Dahl family on Broadway and Christmas song lyrics. A Florida pizza delivery turned violent after a lousy tip. Steve still feels stung by the movie adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.

January 2, 2025Bean There, Done That
It’s the first show of the New Year (2025, if you’re keeping score at home), and we get a wrap up of our respective NYE activities. Steve has advice on regular maintenance of furnace filters, yet he’s having some spelling issues. He’s also trying to be more responsive on LinkedIn, as he finds it a more civil place to exchange information. Dag experienced sticker shock at L.L. Bean in the slender but puffy coat department. Brendan dug the scene around the Winter Classic, before a low-key hang with friends. Did Steve get his storage space cleared out by year’s end? Only today’s podcast knows. Happy New Year, everyone!

December 31, 2024Hip Hop Purse fight
It’s our last show of the year, having decided that we won’t work on December 32nd. Today we are gifted with an informative and entertaining visit from Matt Dahl. He’s in the process of cleaning out his items from the family storage locker. Among the things he’s taking are his skis, which prompts some memories from Dag and Brendan. He also shares some fascinating insight into the life of a firefighter/paramedic. Brendan, Steve and Dag all come armed with their year-end lists. Steve is also planning a special midnight light show to celebrate the arrival of 2025. Thanks for a wonderful year to our subscribers and podcast partners!

December 30, 2024Repeat the Sounding Joy
Steve woke up sick on Friday and spent most of the weekend in bed, save for some Sunday football. Dag felt like he was not productive over the weekend, but he cleaned his house, kept watch over his dogs, took a walk, went to Wisconsin for lunch, and saw the new Bob Dylan biopic. So, he did do some stuff after all. Brendan is gearing up for Iowa football, but he’s not sure if he’ll take it in at home or amongst other local Hawkeyes. Tom Thayer knows Caleb Williams will benefit from playing in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. Tom’s eight year old great nephew is a budding musician/composer.

December 27, 2024Fresh Dog Food Hell
These are confusing times for purchasers of dog food, especially when it comes to the fancy stuff. Steve once displayed a hybrid of ingenuity and shortsightedness (not to mention West Coat naivety) by dragging a snowblower up to a roof. He also gave off a mystical aura when he arrived in Detroit with his extensive knowledge of Mexican food. Speaking of food, Brendan was gifted with a nearly complete set of pierogis. Also today, we learn about the ins and outs of vaping, because the safety of our listeners is our highest priority at The Steve Dahl Show.

December 26, 2024Boxing Day
Steve and Janet watched a church pageant and Steve felt he was being glowered at. Brendan had a splendid celebration at each of the locations he visited. Dag received a body pillow that he’d been longing for. Mary Dahl gifted Grandpa Steve a neon hot dog sign for his podcast studio.. Does Steve have a shot at a job at WINK-TV News? He’s got perhaps the only two-word resume on LinkedIn. Dag received a body pillow that he’d been longing for. Mary Dahl gifted Grandpa Steve a neon hot dog sign for his podcast studio. Janet was moved by Beyonce’s performance of a Paul McCartney classic. Mike Dahl wore an apron modeled after Michelangelo’s David.

December 24, 2024Hot and Frosty
Steve was tasked with mailing the family Christmas cards, and wound up in front of an anxious driver. Steve is feeling slight sympathy towards Aaron Rogers. Dag was not impressed by the Mariano’s produce section, but his Jewel was out of tomatillos. Steve convinced Janet to watch a Netflix movie about a hunky snowman. Steve also apparently spends most his time on two different couches. Hozier performed one of Steve’s favorite Christmas songs on Saturday Night Live. Dag opted for a noteworthy fragrance before a recent show. Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah. God bless us, every one!
-
December 23, 2024Taint Yet Christmas
Big doings at the Dahl house over the weekend, as Steve recovered from his medical procedure (lots of details from both Steve and Janet on that today), and Matt (mostly) moved out. Mike Dahl drops by to outline how a whiskey trade works, and to try and sell Tom Thayer on a Netflix program about Aaron Rogers. Steve’s got a good question for Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown, and Tom is planning to get the question over to him. Tom is also anticipating an earful from his local grocery employees about the state of the Bears.
-
December 20, 2024Bears and Cubs
The Cubs have invited Sammy Sosa to the 2025 Cubs Convention, and Brendan is elated. Dag dealt with a banking issue that left him flummoxed. Canadians are facing a postal strike and a polar bear infestation. The Expo ’76 Big Xmas Bash is tonight at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn.
-
December 19, 2024Breakfast Boss
Dag faced off against a troublesome furnace as Jack Frost aimed his blustery chill at the Juhlin home. Brendan had a confusing moment at a liquor store, but he quickly washed his hands of it. McDonald’s is taking a page out of the Spotify marketing book. Three bungling Bridgeport burglars thought they cashed in on a big score.

December 18, 2024Steve in Gary
Steve fondly remembers canned hams of his youth. Barbara Streisand is also obsessed with Envy apples. Steve and Janet ordered an excellent Broasted chicken (they love Broasted chicken) meal from Papa Passero’s in Westmont. Dag’s twisted acoustic guitar journey leads to a tearful reunion of sorts. Talk To Me Tuesday continues. We also revisit an old Steve and Garry TV show in which Steve appears as a Michael Jackson impersonator. Looking ahead to Steve’s upcoming medical procedure tomorrow, Brendan and Dag will be hosting the next couple of shows with Vince also on hand.
-
December 17, 2024I’m Sorry, I missed That
Steve’s without Rosie in his studio today, and he’s resigned to the fact that maybe watching Daddy do his show isn’t as exciting for her as he’d like it to be. He’s working through his yearly holiday fruitcake, and is offsetting his intake with exercise. We all want to make sure that we acknowledge each other’s comedic contributions to the show, and today’s end of show wrap-up helps us relive some of the magical moments we created earlier. Joe Callahan Jr. of the Steve Dahl and Garry Meier Appreciation Society Facebook page passed away.

December 16, 2024Are You in Minnesota?
Do Zodiac signs truly have anything to do with personality traits? Or is it just Scorpios that believe all the hype about themselves? Steve and the whole family had a lovely Brunch With Santa. Even Janet and Steve couldn’t resist a photo with Santa. Tom is conveniently in Minneapolis today for tonight’s Bears/Vikings matchup. Will he be watching every move made by Vanilla Ice at halftime? Does Dag want to see the upcoming Springsteen or Dylan biopics?

December 13, 2024A Breezy Sauna
Buzz recalls how Steve introduced him to the Zanies crowd last Thursday, and he’d like a transcription of it, so moved was he by Steve’s words. He also warmed up with some bacon cheddar soup from Panera. Virginia describes herself as “born ready and rich.” Are the Bears just stringing Arlington Heights along? Buzz warmed up with some bacon cheddar soup from Panera. Aufguss, German sauna rituals are all the rage across the snow globe. The best Aufgussmeisters participate in 14-minute challenges to determine who is the world’s best. Is Home Alone the best Christmas movie? What does Buzz think?

December 12, 2024It’s Wicked Cold!
Rochester, Michigan has a tremendous Christmas light display that Janet hoped to bring to Western Springs. Steve confesses to having zero whimsy, but hopefully a viewing or two of Polar Express will help him acquire some holiday spirit. Speaking of movies, Janet recaps the magic of Wicked, which she saw on a recent outing with friends. She also recaps the magic of our wickedly funny Zanies show last week. We take a closer look at Matt Dahl’s dog Roger, and get a behind the scenes look at the Thanksgiving Jarritos incident.

December 11, 2024Kick Me!
Steve and Matt watched the Yacht Rock documentary, and Matt seems to have inherited Steve’s “stop and explain” viewing tendencies. Brendan stops and explains the drinking game that’s the cause of a worldwide Guinness shortage. Are you splitting the G? Also: is a dive bar something you’d enjoy smelling like, by choice? The marketing geniuses at Miller Lite are hoping that’s the case this holiday gift-giving season. Joe’s bike mechanic origin story is revealed.
